Oh man, a chicken lovers paradise. They have great comfort quality chicken and the biggest variety of sides . I had the Chicken Finger Basket that came with two sides. I chose the pasta salad and the spanish rice. She walked them over to my table after about a 8-10 minute wait. They seemed just a bit dry and lacked a full amount of taste that i'd have been expecting. Good to say the least, just not the highest quality i was hoping for. They give you a great amount of tenders and if that's not enough, the sides are plenty as well. I took most of my side dishes home and had left-overs. I would definitely recommend trying the tenders here, mostly because of the comfort sides. read more

My visit here was very friendly and since I had never been here before they took the time to help me through the ordering process. Entree's, hot sides, cold sides, combos and specials. My order was 'to go'. I had the ribs and chicken combo with green beans and mashed potatoes. The star of the menu without any doubt is the chicken, very moist an flavorful. Next the green beans were a hit, again lots of flavors with a little kick. The ribs were just okay in my book but the sauce which I got on the side was really good. Last the mashed potatoes were not very good and really needed the gravy that they forgot to include in my bag. 2 big hits and two misses still rates four stars for me. read more

It had been a while since I'd been here, and with the new ownership I figured I should check it out. When you order your meal to stay, they serve it on real plates. It's a nice touch that I think enhances the experience. Patrons should really bus their own tables. I saw some leave their table covered in dishes. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I ordered the pulled pork (no bun, no cheese), cole slaw, and baked beans. The pork sandwich normally comes with cheese on, which I thought was odd. The pork was tender, juicy, and swimming in a sauce of sweet wonderful ness. Normally I prefer to put my own sauce on the pork, but their sauce was perfect and delicious. I wouldn't change a thing. The cole slaw is an excellent vinegar-based tasty treat. My favorite style of slaw. The baked beans were sweet and flavorful. Bottom line is that this place is really good. This is VERY SAD. Hickory Roasters used to be a "Family " owned business that cared for ALL their patrons. You would feel as if you were eating a family gathering meal everytime you went there. Unfortunately they sold. The new owners took away old receipts to cut costs & add their ENTIRE new menu which now Hickory Roaster name has been tainted. I will give an example. The other night my family order ribs, roaster chicken, tenders plus all the sides.The restaurant when they could not fulfill the order called & threatened my family 3x. It was a horric experience. They blamed Uber for their problems but yet continued to harass us & also had "an employee " play as if they were from Uber. I have never been so horrified & scared o er a Restaurant. The previous owners would have Not EVER DONE this. Plz consider this when you order from the new hickory roasters mgmt. Receipts are different & lies on food time & etc. Plz DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. It was A-OK! Family of four for $38, not bad. This is a small and kitschy, free-standing, family-owned restaurant near Ikea. It's easy to park, it's pretty reasonably priced, and it's pretty cool to watch chickens roasting nonstop while you dine (in retrospect that sounds gross, but it's not). I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with cheese and opted for two sides. The truth? it was okay. I told myself I should have ordered the chicken, but I didn't listen to my gut and next time I will for sure. There was nothing wrong with the pork. It just wasn't as flavorful as I'd hoped. They have many sides to choose from. I opted for coleslaw and red potatoes. The coleslaw was good, but the potatoes were nicely spiced and really hit it out of the park for me. My kiddos ordered the pulled chicken sandwiches. I sampled their chicken, and it was moist and flavorful. I'll consider ordering that the next time around. I didn't try their mac-n-cheese side, but it seemed pretty straight forward, and they liked it...good to know for parents who bring in picky eaters. My hubby ordered the healthiest meal...roasted chicken in a pita. Though he had to wait a bit for it, I have to say it was worth the wait. The chicken was moist and flavorful with a hint of lemon. It reminded me of Pita Inn chicken--delicious! Like I said earlier, come for the chicken. Lots of nightly specials and a pretty overwhelming menu, so be prepared. The staff is nice, but I got the sense they were a little annoyed with our family. Usually they have paper menus out on the counter so you can plan ahead of time, but they were out, and we're a nightmare when it comes to making food decisions on the fly. Excellent chicken and ribs. The chicken was very moist and tasted really good. You can tell it's been cooked over firewood. Their sides were also delicious. I loved their muffin too. overpriced taco dinner, meat was precooked and dried out. poor quality ingredients. it was $16 dollars for reheated food that's been sitting out. the guy doesn't know the prices and he's trying to charge 18 or 20. rice is terrible. beans are orange salsa is watered down Floor and base trim are dirty, air vents are greasy and dirty, just overall a lot of damage to the property that shows a lack of care which makes me worry about the food I'm eating. Go here for the bbq ribs. They get these right. The bbq sauce is well balanced in flavor. The rib meat is expertly slow roasted and comes off the bone just right. A good corn muffin comes with the meal. Unfortunately, the sides leave much to be desired. They should put a bit more thought into that aspect of their fare. The roasted chicken can be inconsistent at times. One request I would make is that they get rid of the styrofoam clamshell they put the food in. It does not lend itself to reheating in a microwave. Other than that, it's generous and more than enough to satisfy ones hunger. read more

This place is really confused on whether it's a chicken place, Mexican restaurant, or BBQ place. It says that their chicken is wood smoked, I didn't see any wood. The chicken was well under seasoned and did not taste smoked, its roasted in a spigot under a gas flame. The sides are buffet style behind the counter. The assistant not did know the ingredients in some of the sides. Location appeared run down and was infested with gnats. I mentioned to the assistant serving behind the counter to come over to our table to show her all of the gnats, she just asked if we would like to move to another table. This didn't make sense as they were everywhere in the dining area. Poor attention to service, we left with a poor experience. I hope this review will help the owners fix up the place or make you think twice about coming here for dining. read more

I went there for lunch with my husband and I was surprised by the size of the portion! It's huge!! I had gyro with rice and pico de gallo and mac and cheese and my husband had 1/2 chicken with garlic potatoes and the pesto salad. DEFINITELY go with the 1/2 chicken, rice/pico and the mac and cheese. It was so good! It's a great place to have a homemade juicy chicken. So much food for what you pay! I'd go back again. read more

I ordered 1/4 chicken wing & a breast, mashed potatoes & mac n cheese. I tasted the potatoes first, they were not mashed enough, there were 2 big chunks of potatoes. The one chunk was part of a rotten potatoe black in color. I was pretty grossed out! Tasted the mc n cheese, it was not made with a bechamel sauce, it was runny and tasted awful. Yumm! Delicious dinner for from here today! Got the half roasted chicken and bbq slab rib combo. Was a great deal and good sized portion. Also came with 2 sides. We gobbled it up. The chicken was so perfectly seasoned and the bbq on the ribs was so a lil spicy. Got the Italian style beans and tomato cucumber onion salad. These were both ok but the meats were great. I also got an al pastor taco with all the fixings and it was fabulous. Will be back for more for sure. read more

I remember the Hickory Roasters from 20 years ago when we lived in Arlington Heights. Back then I frequented it often for a price that was equivalent to the fast food chicken establishments. I would get real Hickory smoked chicken. As we were passing by it yesterday I of course had to stop and get some of the Hickory roasted chicken after all these years. The service was friendly and efficient, but unfortunately the taste of the chicken changed. It just doesn't have that Hickory smoked taste anymore although it is still tender and juicy. read more

Good sides and barbecue for a hole-in-the-wall place in Rolling Meadows. I was looking for something different for lunch near Schaumburg and decided to give this a try with the wife and kids. It takes a while to parse out your options, but in the end I went with a roasted 1/4 chicken (for some reason, dark meat only) with apple crisp and papas al diablo. I'm a big fan of the chicken, which, being dark meat, was very moist and tender. The skin had nice crackly bits of hickory-flavored char. Otherwise the rest of the chicken tasted lightly smoked. The sides, thus far, are a big plus here. The potatoes were a little bit spicy and spiked with vinegar, making for a tender, flavorful side. And the apple crisp had the right blend of crispy crumbles atop sliced warm apples. For the more adventurous, go for the $5.95 Four Sides Special. The barbecue cheddar sandwich was less successful, largely because about a third of it was pretty dry and the barbecue sauce was oddly sweet, which wasn't something I was expecting from a place that hickory smokes their chicken. I'm not sure if the kids meal chicken tenders are breaded in-house, but they were pounded flat, moist, juicy, and blazing hot. So those were a success overall. To be honest, if they pitched the barbecue sauce that was on the sandwich in exchange for the stuff that was in the cup, I think these guys would be doing the sandwich very well. Sometimes we'd order a whole chicken to split, and a side of cole slaw. The chicken is great, some if we had left over, I'd make it into chicken sandwich or salad. LOOOOOOOVE this place. We (hubs and I) eat here whenever we are in a bind for dinner. There's a daily special for every day of the week. Sunday is $11.99 for a full rack of ribs and two sides- two normal people can eat this. Perhaps add one side BUT there is plenty of meat. Restaurant is ran by a husband and wife that make all of the food from scratch every day. They are very nice people and give great recommendations when ordering off of the menu. Great place to pick up food, stop by after shopping at Woodfield Mall, or just eat here because you love BBQ and all your comfort-food sides at your fingertips. read more

It's ok. Roasted Chicken may be better for you, which is probably the only reason you eat roasted chicken instead of fried chicken. So, if I'm going to get roasted chicken, you should feel like it's better for you. Well, I didn't really feel like this chicken was any better for me than fried chicken. It seemed pretty greasy, and definitely didn't taste better than fried chicken. They have a pretty good selection of sides, but they are all pretty generic. Nothing special about them. Chicken comes with cornbread, which tasted ok, but crumbled to pieces as soon as I took it out of the muffin wrapper. Definitely not the worst food I've had, but I will continue my search for some good chicken. read more

I have eaten here since it first opened, not frequently but once in a while when i pass by. Today was really aweful. I ordered a $40 lunch carryout, consisting of a whole chicken, a steak taco meal and too many churros. The chicken was inedible, really salty and dry, even the thigh meat was dry. I called and informed the restaurant immediately and they told me that i can come in and exchange the chicken but they would all be the same, she lied because when i was there i saw the dine in chicken lunch that another customer had ordered and it was not dried out. While on vacation I discovered this place via Google Maps and figured to give it a try as opposed to going to Boston Market. I ordered the quarter chicken breast with coleslaw, mashed potatoes and cornbread. Overall the meal was just ok. Chicken was moist and was pretty good, mashed potatoes however when I got home some of the gravy spilled out of the take out container. The mashed potatoes I would say were alright, coleslaw was 'meh'. Big disappointment was the cornbread: it was actually a cornbread muffin that apparently was sitting out for awhile, because it tasted pretty dry that no amount of butter would save it. Don't think I will come back here, much prefer Boston Market where they have my preferred sides (and I never tasted dry cornbread from them!) read more

I've worked nearby for over five and a half years, and never tried the place until just a few weeks ago. My bad! Honestly, the place doesn't look like much from the outside. It's easy to pass up and there are other reliable lunch options nearby. But I visited on a Monday and enjoyed what might be the best deal in town- their Moday special, which is a roasted half chicken, two sides, and a corn bread muffin for about 5 bucks. And the chicken is fantastic! Try it with barbecue sauce. I can go into more detail, but I won't. The staff is really friendly, the food is very good and comes in large portions, and suffice it to say I enjoyed my meal so much I went back and ordered the same exact thing on the following Monday. read more

This is what Boston Market wishes they were. The chicken is fantastic! Spit roasted to perfection, seasoned just right and very tender to boot. They offer a very similar menu to Boston Market, but everything here is home made, and they are very generous with the servings. The dining area is always spotless, but it can be a bit drafty during winter months. Update: We have used them to cater 2 office parties recently. Not only were they 100% ready when we arrived, the only thing we had to carry out was the receipt. The staff has again, knocked my socks off. Two employees carefully carried out each and every box, container and bag, and neatly placed them in my car. They refused any help. When we arrived back at the office, we opened the boxes to find neatly packed food with no splashes or spills. THANKS GUYS!!!! read more

Hmmm... after reading all the reviews, I was really excited as I love finding hidden joints that offer great food, great prices and quick service. 2 of the three were right on the mark. I got my food in no time. Prices were really cheap. Food was pretty average in my opinion. Overall, the chicken was good, but not much different than El Pollo Loco. The ribs were ok, just seemed to lack flavor. Sauce was pretty bland in comparison to other places I've been to. Considering that the sides were prepared in advance, it is cool to see your options ala Boston Market. What was bad was my salsa tasted a bit off. Perhaps it was out in the open too long? Not sure. Something seemed off about the rice as well. Maybe it didn't go with the ribs? My potatoes seemed a bit rubbery too. Maybe I need to come during busy hour when it's more fresh??? read more

Lots must have changed since Rachel reviewed this place 5 months ago. I was hoping Hickory Roasters would deliver like the broasted chicken at Boston Blackies. Alas, no. It's a humble joint. Reminds me of a cafeteria where you peruse the menu really quickly, place your order with the nice staff behind the counter, pay at counter and find a seat. The customers are mostly working-class folks intermingled with a few quasi white-collar office workers like us. We order the famous, "back by popular demand" pot roast for about $7. And of course the roasted chicken, which was spinning in the spit (and yes, we spied hickory wood near it). They come with choice of 2 sides, which include the staple assortments of mac and cheese -- a runny concoction looks like it came out of a wholesale tub -- mashed potatoes (flavorless and goopy wet), garlic potatoes (overly salted), Italian green beans, corn (both waterlogged) etc We were highly disappointed in it and we had hoped so hard for a good joint. The pot roast came out of a small container kept in an oven and it was dry and salty. And no gravy could salvage it. And the chicken was dry and heavily seasoned, as well. We usually give places second chances, but this visit was so dismal that we would never know if today was just a bad day for them and we are not returning. read more

Traveling and wanted some home cooking/southern/comfort food and saw great reviews for this place. I should mention we are from the south and know real southern/comfort/home cooking. Walked in with high hopes that were quickly dashed. The workers were super nice and they have free refills, so that's good....BUT the Mashed potatoes are instant, thin and watery. Mac and cheese is thin, bland and watery. Green beans are made in a marinara sauce.....enough said about that. The corn is dry, hard and weird, a few times I thought I was eating teeth. The chicken is average at best. The barbecue sandwich is straight up manwich sauce from a can. The corn bread was actually really good. We asked for lots of extra butter and tried to doctor it all up....but a pig in lipstick is still a pig. If you know good southern cooking or are craving/wanting to try real southern cooking don't let this be the place you do that in. read more

Wow! A hidden gem for the person who appreciates having their chicken rotisserie cooked over a hickory wood flame. Their chicken is by far the tastiest chicken I have ever had at any restaurant. Slow roasted over hickory wood gives the chicken a deep delicious moist taste. They have a wide variety of side dishes for you to choose from which compliment the chicken perfectly. Was I expecting ribs as succulent as the Franklin BBQ in Austin, or a juicy pulled chicken plate like I've tasted in North Carolina? Hell No. The last time I checked I was in Rolling Meadows, IL, and hoped that the BBQ was as decent as the Yelp reviews. I tried both the chicken & the ribs, and while both had a "smoky" flavor, both were extremely dried out. "Falling off the bone" is a term most of us would equate with above average BBQ ,however In this case, even though the meat literally fell from the bone, it had been held in a warming cabinet for an extended period. Side dishes were purchased from a restaurant supply company, either frozen or from a can/box. Corn muffin was the outlier. It actually tasted good! To salvage the BBQ ribs ribs, I cut the meat off the bone, and fried it up with some leftover rice, veggies & soy sauce. Now that was some awesome fried rice. read more
