My new favorite Mexican restaurant. Honestly my colleges were a little taken back by the bars on the windows so they made me get out and check. Guess we can chalk that up to the Oak Cliff location. They served a complimentary bean soup that was so good we paid for more and I took home some to my hubby. The salsa is wonderfully spicy served with their warm chips and complimentary tortillas. Great food. Super prices. I ordered Sour cream chicken enchiladas combo, off the lunch menu and my meal was under $10 with 20% tip. Can't ask for more than amazing food at a great price. Addison location- This place doesn't even get half a star from me. The first time we tried it I vowed to never come back but a friend was buying and we don't have many options at the moment. Food was horrible. Greasy and EXTREMELY salty. Tastes completely different than it does at the Sylvan location. Will definitely eat a can of tuna and crackers before coming here again. I just tried out Herrera's here in Addison, on Beltline and Runyon drive, and its all you would expect a Herrerra's to be: great food, great service, with their family's traditional recipes. Chili Relleno was beautifully peeled and blanched before cooking. Rice and beans were on-point, as was the complimentary bowl of beans. These beans work as an amuse-bouche, appetizer, along with their chips and excellent salsa. This family has been in the business for decades, and they know their craft well! The staff is very attentive, and they even check on other's customers to be sure everyone is a winner. Multiple big screen TV's at the bar, where you can dine solo and sample their drinks and beers. They have completely revamped the Resturaunt to dela with the pandemic, they check temperatures at the door and have socially distanced the tables. I wouldn't call Herrera's a "hole in the wall" at all. I've had Tex-Mex all over Texas as an adult the last 36 years and Herrera's is simple, uncluttered, clean and big enough for it's patrons to have a little elbow room. The bathrooms are nice, too. Our server was friendly and efficient. The food is straightforward and definitely perfect Tex-Mex. They like bringing the heat here and we liked it, too. The salsa is smooth and cold with a kick. The free bean soup with peppers and bacon delicious. A large guacamole ($5.95) was well balanced and not over mashed. I had the "John's Special" ($10.95) and my husband had a flavorful spicy pork guiso ($12.95). My dinner had a great cheese enchilada with beef chili gravy and a chunky beef burrito with pico de gallo. Silky refried beans with rice and a warmer with mixed tortillas rounded it out. Went to Herrera's today for lunch and it was a delight. I ordered the sour cream enchilada's and my family members ordered beef enchilada's and cheese and onion enchilada's. Rice and beans are included. It was tasty. The chips and salsa were good. The salsa was pretty spicy which is how I like it and they serve their beverages in huge glasses (like big gulp size!). Which is a good thing in case the heat of the salsa attacks your mouth and you need to quench the "burn". The place has about 15 tables and the service is fast. The guys working there were all friendly and very attentive. They are closed on Tuesdays. If I am in Oak Cliff again I will surely make another stop there :) read more

(Actually it's more like a couple of spoonfuls of soup in a salsa cup) The salsa is EXTRA EXTRA SPICY, chips are good and crispy! The soft cheese taco is a cooked corn tortilla she'll filled with queso and topped with queso, It was a little disappointing. The taco meat to me taste a little like panchos taco meat..kind of like that soupy taco meat. It's not bad at all, it's got lots of flavor. Many people were eating here and must also work nearby, so it's a great place for them to get a quick bite. Customer service was excellent. The food, however, was meh. I liked the salsa, but my sour cream chicken enchilada was bland. And it wasn't a sour cream sauce-more like a dollop of it lobbed on top. If the chicken or verde sauce had been amped up with some peppers, it would be fine to just dab sour cream on top, but that wasn't the case. No frills decor, no frills service but the food is damn good. Salsa is one of the best I've had in Dallas. Has a kick but won't burn your insides. At the end of the meal, I was still trying to scrape salsa out of the bowl. I ordered the beef taco plate with rice and beans. The meal was out FAST. My gut reaction is to think....great, this has been sitting on the burner since it was prepared hours ago. Wrong. Everything on the plate was freshly made. While the meat was a tad greasy, I knew effort was thrown into the preparation. I could taste the seasonings and it was really good. The rice and beans were fine...nothing really special about them. For me, it was all about the main dish. I realize tacos are hard to fu*k up. But, believe me, I've had some fu*cked up tacos before. For being an impromptu visit to this location, my first impression was great. I'm willing to drive all the way down to Illinois again for Herrera's. I just adore hole-in-the-wall places especially those that are clean, friendly and the food is absolutely yummy. What else can you ask for? Family owned for decades this restaurant is still standing and going strong! We walked in sat down and within a very short time was asked what we wanted to drink, and we were handed menus. The menu is a bit long I thought at first, but really they give you almost every option for substitution you could want to have. The place was half packed so I liked that. This way I get to look at the food that they bring out and see just what my non picky self would like to eat. Chips and salsa: Are perfect. Chips fresh and not out of a bag. The salsa is actually spicy I love that! Our table ordered the Combo fajitas, Beef taco plate, and the Jessica's special. Wow the food came out in record time. The beef tacos had just the right amount of spice and cooked to perfection. My chicken taco, chicken enchilada and fluta were perfect the taste was so wonderful and cooked to perfection. The fajita's looked amazing came out sizzling and smelling so good and yes they tasted amazing too. Beans and rice let me tell you they make it better then any other establishment I have been too in a long time. Guacamole salad was fresh and Delicious. Not once did we have to ask for drink refills. I like a good beef crispy taco, and theirs are a little weird to me. The meat is too mushy. But I can't bear not to give them 5 stars because everything else is so good! I would say this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in DFW. It's a hole in the wall place and area but you will be ok. The service here is amazing each time. They are fast and nice. I love their bean soup omg!!! It's to die for. It's more of a spicy soup so if you can't eat spicy beware. Their lunch menu is cheap, fulfilling, and delicious. I love their beef enchiladas, avocado toastados, rice, & basically everything lol. You get free chips and dips and corn flour with butter just ask for it the corn flour though. Don't mind the location, this is the best Tex-Mex/Mexican restaurant in Oak Cliff!! The restaurant is family owned and the staff is nice. The service is so fast you'll freak!! You'd think with service that fast the food would be made hours before but trust me, that is not the case here! Food is always hot and freshly made. "Careful, the plates hot" is the common expression. By the way, the salsa that they give to you with chips is no joke! This my friends is how salsa should be when going to ANY Mexican, Tex/Mex place! I have eaten at this restaurant several times and never been disappointed. The meal starts out with the house chips and salsa. If you do not like spicy food you will not like the standard salsa so you may want to ask for a mild alternative. I personally like it and always fill up way to much before my meal on this appetizer. You also receive a small bowl of beans to eat before your meal, which in my opinion taste good. We also have tried the tostadas here and they are really good. Lots of toppings and with the good salsa this little appetizer really hits the spot. As for the main meal, I normally share the beef fajitas and my kids get the quesadillas. The beef is tender and not full of gristle. The flavor is strong and the beef is always juicy and defiantly plenty for 2. The fixings are standard with sour cream, lettuce, onions, green peppers. The tortillas are always warm and taste fresh. (If you ask when you get there they will give you a free order of tortillas to dip in queso if you like that). If you like quesadillas, I would suggest you give their style quesadillas a try(it is a little different). The quesadillas are fried here and have allot of cheese. It is really tasty and our kids love this. The wait staff here are always the same handful of guys and they are running around and very prompt in their service. We always give them a good tip. The atmosphere here is that of a small hole in the wall spot. Not many upscale decorations and it is very laid back. If you decide to show up in basketball shorts and a t-shirt you do not have to worry about feeling out of place(I personally like this as I like to relax and let loose). In fact, we would sometimes wish the speedy food service would take a little longer so that we could enjoy the chips more. The food is great for Tex-Mex standards.
