I don't write many reviews, but I gotta tell you that this is exactly what I want in a Dallas Tex-Mex restaurant. Herrera's has [[HIGHLIGHT]]the look of a hole in the wall, but it's immaculately clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is quick and friendly, the meals are simple (no unnecessary garnish for your photos) and prepared fresh, and the prices are better than fair. Good salsa and great borracho beans served before your meal. I ordered a big bowl of beans to enjoy for lunch the following day. I hate it that Herreras on Harry Hines closed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]So I tried this one in Oak Cliff, which is about half the size and the place is a little rundown.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They said they've been there at that location since 1983. I wish the food was the same, but it wasn't. It's still better than Little Rock but nothing like the original Herreras or the one on Harry Hines. Ordered a taco, soft taco cheese, enchilada, and guacamole on a tostada. The salsa is not the same. My waiter was excellent. They're very nice in there. read more

Great little local spot if you happen to be over by Dallas College Mountain View campus. Doing a show on their football fields and on one of our set days we all went over and had lunch there. Great staff, great Mexican food and reasonable prices. We will be going back this next week. read more

We showed up less than an hour before closing so i did feel a bit bad, but they were nice and served us quickly. We still left 10-15 before closing. We definitely felt rushed out of there but the food was really good. Will have to go back during more normal hours for a full experience. I liked the individual bowls of beans served with the chips and salsa. The water cups were also huge. The salsa was tasty- on the spicy side. I ordered a chili relleno, we had a side salad, an enchilada/taco combo and chalupas. I thought it was interesting to have so much cheese in the salad, good thing cheese is life. I've been eating at Herrera's for over 40 years. They have the BEST TexMex in Dallas and in my opinion the whole state. Their enchiladas are served hot and melty, their guacamole is awesome, chips and salsa are always fresh and chips are served warm. Ohhhh and the bean soup they give you is fantastic! Always consistent with their food great for brunch in house or for take out and always great service. They speak English and Spanish with virtual and physical menus. Food is always fresh to order and salsa for chips is spicy. You also get a cup of charros beans with your chips and salsa and it's always good! If I want tacos - we're going to Herrera's. It's my husbands favorite Mexican restaurant - as he's been to serval locations all his life - and he never has to ask me twice because - again the tacos are phenomenal - but also the salsa and the bean soup and the beans and the rice.... Now Herrera's is a GREAT Tex-Mex spot. I haven't been here in a couple years and I can't recall why I haven't been back. Now my only regret is I stopped coming because the food here is absolute delicious. Some of the best tex mex in DFW. The salsa is a bit spicy but its a good spicy and nice consistency. Sweet tea was fresh and I ordered "PEPE'S" plate which was beef taco, chicken taco, beef enchilada, beef burrito and rice & beans. I am full and happy and not rushing to the restroom like other tex men places do to me. Service is excellent very attentive. I will be back real soon and can't wait. When I arrived at 7:35 PM, I was denied entry to the restaurant when closing was at 8 PM. A Hispanic man at the window waved at me they were close while turning off the open sign. He waved me off when I pointed at my phone to say what time it was. I have never been treated so poorly at this restaurant in all the years my family has gone here. It seems our patronage means nothing to this restaurant. This is highly disappointing and disrespectful. I get inflation down is a real B right now, but the portion size of our con queso and guacamole salad was almost comical for what we actually received. It was 8,25 for the guacamole and 7.75 for the queso. Normally I would be like okay, that's standard, but tonight I had to laugh at how this restaurant tried to save a buck. The guacamole was a cup filled with lettuce and maybe 2oz (1/4 cup) of puréed avocado. The queso was lightly larger in portion but was only 4oz for a bowl of queso. Taste wise the best I can say was meh ... it wasn't awful, but not good either. Guacamole as I say was just puréed avocado, no spices, nothing extra on top of lettuce. The queso tasted more like a basic rue or almost like an Alfredo than queso. It tasted like pure flour, butter, and cream. Not like a traditional queso. Again no spices, not even a cheese flavored, just a very blah cream rue sauce. To add insult to injury both dips didn't even come with chips. So for $16, it was literally 2 mediocre at best dips. Save your money and go to Taco Bell for better mediocre Tex Mex. read more

With the great reviews I decided to grab a to go order. Customer service at the counter was good. Food didn't take long. Ordered fajitas for 2 people along with a side of sour cream ( their fajitas don't come with sour cream or mixed cheese- crazy right?!?!), and a cup of queso. It was pricy but thought with all the reviews it would be great. Boy was I wrong. The meat - chicken and beef- was such poor quality and lacked any type of seasoning. The queso was so bland. I was remembering dining at the old hole in the wall on Maple, then the restaurant on Lemmon, then the restaurant on Maple. I told my friends how great the "crazy nachos" were at Herrera's. They were a supreme disappointment. The beans and beef were mixed together, so the people who wanted chicken got the beef mixture and ultimately got chicken on the side. The one who wanted no meat got the mixture also. There was approximately 1 teaspoon of sour cream and guacamole per nacho. My husband and I love supporting local businesses and decided to try this place out since we were in the area. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and got our temperature checked. They gave us complimentary chips and salsa and some delicious charros beans. They were so good! They have QR codes to scan for menus but they also have a big board with a lot more options to choose from. They have so many different menu items, we had no idea what to choose. However, this place is BYOB so there is no alcohol on the menu. Eventually we settled on beef enchiladas and a fajita chimichanga. So good and very filling (but it could've also been the chips and beans)! My only thing was that we were under the impression they closed at 9, but because it was slow, they closed at 8 instead. They did not make us feel rushed or anything, but we didn't want to make them stay any longer than they should, so we kinda rushed our meals toward the end. I like the "bean soup" that comes with your entree and service is fast, but my cheese enchiladas were lacking. The cheese was a rubbery-chewy unmelted block in the middle of a tortilla and it was bland. The rice and beans were okay, not bad but not "wow". Tortilla chips were good, not greasy and not too thin. Really 3.5 stars. Man I forgot about this place but thanks to Yelp here I am. It's descent food for a almost descent price. Priced just a tad high I feel but not Overpriced. I went with the Chille Relleno. Good sized and full of ground beef. Now this was not dry meat, it was the juicy flavorful ground beef. Nice ranchero sauce on top that had big chunks of fresh vegetables in it. You get a small cup of bean soup with your meal. EXCELLENT flavor!!! O snap and the hot sauce... .
