Stopped in for early dinner with the Hubs after an appointment and thought we'd get a treat somewhere. I opted to drive north through the 101 for a more scenic route drive. Beats the highway! We tried to look at their website link here on Yelp but got the 404 error message. We wanted to see if they had happy hour deals (they did not) but we DID end up doing the beer and smoked burger for 20 option. I asked for well done. It was almost completely well done. Still a little more pink than I prefer in general. I didn't feel the need to complain. The burger was good regardless. It was moist and the softness of the brioche bun was fantastic. My O'side light was refreshing. We've come here with every business turnover since the whiskey bank. I feel the chairs and benches have been the most comfortable thus far. Was told that they're going to go through a completely new renovation process again. I hope they keep this comfort vibe Even though it most likely won't be the southern comfort vibe anymore. Soon it will be officially rebranded to Hill Street Brewing and will pay homage for what the O'side street name used to be. All the servers were nice and friendly. We'll be back most likely after the change has been finalized.
This place is a little better than Heritage Capistrano but not much. The turkeywas good. The brisket was way to salty. The porkribs were under cooked. There was to much tug to get the meat off the bone. You should have a clean bite. The rings and mac and cheese were good. Service was a bit slow. I had to wait forever for a tea refill. I needed it to wash down the salty brisket. Been there, done that. I won't be back.
Service was great, very attentive and personable. The beef dip was so delicious. The breast had a little crunch on the outside but was so soft inside. The meat had excellent flavor and the fries were top notch. The only downside was my son ordered the kids rib plate and was unable to eat it because the black pepper rub. The waitress noticed and comped the meal. All in all, we will be back.
Overall had a good experience and decent bbq. They allow dogs inside which is nice since we like to take our pup with us on the weekends. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't super crowded or busy. They had a DJ playing music and football games on the TVs. We ordered the two meat combo and it was enough food for two of us to share. We ordered the brisket and tri tip with mac n cheese and potato salad as our 2 sides. The brisket was very good, it was juicy and not dry. The tri tip was served cold and we found that strange, so not our favorite. The sides were good portion and flavorful.
After visiting the supermarket I didn't feel like making dinner - funny how that happens - so I came in for a snack. Four different sports on the giant TVs was a little overwhelming but good if you're into that, I guess. I had their double unfiltered ipa (as I recall) and a French dip sandwich with side Caesar. The beer was good, the salad was fine. I liked the sandwich, and I paid attention to the beef which was nicely smoked and tasty. The staff was helpful and attentive. I have simple needs.
The place is huge and very nicely set up and inviting! The food was pretty delicious and the service was OK. It appeared there was one server and one bartender who might've been overwhelmed so the service wasn't as amazing as I expected, and I think we were there on a trivia night, which was Wednesday. I don't know what was going on. The brisket, quesadilla and the queso and chips were very delicious!
It was Father's Day and I was craving BBQ. We've driven by this place several times and decided to give it a try. Had the 3 meat combo. Wanted brisket but they were out, so had the pulled pork, tritip, and ribs. All were pretty good. Service was super slow but then heard the server telling to table behind us they only had two line cooks that day so we remained patient. We enjoyed all of our food and the portion size was great to share. Loved the outdoor seating as well. When I'm craving BBQ I would definitely come here again.
When we were in Oceanside, we had a nice dinner at Heritage Beer on their patio. It was along PCH so we were blocks away from the water. Sitting on the patio, it was pleasant, breezy and cool with all the cruisers along the highway. They are a BBQ restaurant so we started with an appetizer of chips and chili. For entrees, we both ordered 2 meat combinations, which come with 2 slides. For one, we selected a double order of baby back ribs, with onion rings and baked potato. The other was tri tip and brisket, with roasted vegetables, and beans. We also ordered a side salad. All the portions are really generous. The side salad was giant and very shareable. The sides are a bit rich. The roasted veggies had a bit scoop of burrata cheese. The cheese might have been mixed with something because it was orange and flavored. The Charro beans were great, with creamy Rancho Gordo beans. All their meats were good though our favorite was the tender brisket.
Wow Heritage is the best. The service is so nice here. We have seen the lines at the Heritage on Dana Point and I am so surprised it's not the same here. The first few months they didn't have a smoker on site but they do now. The seating is indoor or patio. Big tables for big groups. Nice bar with draft beer and wine. They have rib tips as a special sometimes. The banana pudding is my go to dessert - it's served over a butter cake. The meat is tender and delish. Located in South O with its own parking lot!
The food is great ! We drive over 34 miles for smoked turkey which is normally sold out. The brisket and turkey are best things on their menu. Both are so tender , juicy , and can cut with a fork! Service is great but don't call them as they won't answer the phone . Normally a line at lunch and dinner. The ambiance is dog friendly and kid friendly! Very airy. If you like a brewery they have lots of craft beers. We don't drink so I can't tell you how they taste. Used to be related to the one in San Juan Capistrano but no more
Meh. This place is not that great, but it's not terrible either. Would I come back? Definitely not. I'd rather go down the street to Primos and pick up fresh cooked BBQ from them. The food temperature was just warm and by the time you start to dig in it's cold. As if the BBQ gets cooked early and left to sit out under a lamp all day. Side dishes were decent, could use a little more seasoning. You can never go wrong with an ice cold beer, which was the only satisfying part of the meal. Service was slow. Took forever for refills and to get our bill. I guess if you want to be acknowledged and get faster service go sit at the bar.
Our friends were raving about this establishment. One even said they would consider making the drive up from San Diego to get some of this bbq, so we decided to give it a go since we were in the area for the surf competition. We ordered the 3 meat combo which has 1/3 of a pound of each meat + 3 sides. Food: The meat was cooked perfectly so the texture was 5/5, unfortunately that's only half the story as there was almost no flavor. It's like there wasn't a dry rub or marinade. Service: we had to wait 10 minutes to get our check. Not terrible, but not 5 star service. Atmosphere: I don't want to hate on the restaurant for this because it's slightly out of their control, but as we are outside there was a cacophony of sound the whole time. I'm not from Oceanside but it appears Heritage is on a Main Street, so there's no shortage of really loud cars. Added to that was a stereo of other patrons dogs barking the whole time. Again, that's not their fault, but it was the atmosphere.

Took my mama bear out here for a little "treat yourself" moment after losing my dad. It used to be their spot, so I thought, what better way to honor him than with ribs, mac and cheese, and a hopeful attitude? We ordered the 3 meats plate with a side of mac and cheese, thinking we'd leave in a food coma. Plot twist: for $45, we basically split a light snack. We asked for double ribs, but apparently ribs are weighed like gold here--so we got just a few sad little bones. When I asked the bartender, she hit me with a "it's weighted meat" and shrugged. Oh. Okay. Guess we're on a portion control diet now. The BBQ sauce? Meh. My mom and I both agreed it was giving "needs a little more love." The corn? Tasted like it defrosted just for us. Still decent, but not for the price tag. The mac and cheese though? A win. Warm, cheesy, and the only thing that arrived hotter than my mild frustration. Now let's talk service. Our bartender vanished mid-meal (poof! just like the ribs), didn't say bye, and didn't introduce her replacement. Instead, she sat at the bar with her friends while we played a fun game of "Where's Our Server?" Spoiler: we lost. Had to ask multiple times for refills. Not quite the relaxing "mom night out" I had in mind. My mom summed it up perfectly: "The prices went up, and the service went down." Poetry. Also, shoutout to the guy next to us who tried ordering half the menu only to be told, "Yeah, we're out of that" over and over. Management, a quick stock check might be helpful for you guest Lastly, don't come here if you're starving or in a rush. Our food took forever and was colder than my ex's heart by the time it arrived--minus the mac and cheese, the MVP. Would I come back? Maybe. But only after a snack and a pep talk. Management, if you're reading this, we just want hot food, a heads-up when the server disappears, and ribs that don't need a microscope to be seen. Is that too much to ask? read more
Picked up some pulled pork and brisket to-go. Always greeted with a friendly smile and warm greeting. I annihilated the pulled pork before taking any pics and quickly snapped a shot of the brisket. Both were awesome. Pulled pork wasn't dried out like many other places. The brisket though... great crust, juicy, and flavorful. You can add some of their bbq sauce but you definitely don't need to. This is the second location of the famous original San Juan Capistrano location where barbecue cultists line up hours before opening. No need to line up for hours here, thankfully. Most of our food was great. Our server was terrific. I really don't get the negative reviews. The chips and queso appetizer was very good but the queso was much more like a bean dip than a cheese dip. I mean, "queso" literally means "cheese" so let's make this a cheese dip. The non-queso bean dip was still good and the chips were fantastic. We tried a two-meat combo platter with brisket (very tender) and sausage. The sausage was extraordinary. It might have been the best sausage I have ever tried. For our sides, we went with the elote (very fresh) and the charro beans which were decent and not exactly charro beans. The beans were also very spicy. The Carolina sandwich, made with pulled pork and slaw, is incredible. It's just a juicy, tender, flavor bomb. And the mac and cheese side dish is outstanding. They also have interesting draft beers and creative cocktails. They will also turn any cocktail into a mocktail, if you ask. So, yeah, not everything was incredible. But overall, the food was really good and the service was excellent. And we didn't spend two hours in line to enjoy some good barbecue. read more

On the way back from Temecula and looking for the smoke, and this joint was on my list! Opted for the Three meat platter; brisket, pulled pork, and hot link...served with Mac & cheese, fries, and potato salad. Meats were tender, juicy, and the right amount of smoke. Sides were all a hit as well...including a little heat from the Mac. Would have liked a sweet tea. Ambiance is industrial rock club, service was not very present, friendly, or helpful, and prices were great! Hope for better service next visit, but the food will bring us back... read more
This month's team lunch was at Heritage Bbq. I was interested in trying Heritage Bbq as the Orange County restaurant was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2023. Chef/Owner Daniel Castillo was inspired by Central Texas Bbq and is using California white oak to smoke his meats. Good size parking lot with good size spaces. Inside it was very clean and modern with lots of room for big parties. I was happy to see you could order either ala carte or get a combo. Beef brisket was tender and juicy with a good amount of fat to insure the meat didn't dry out. Bark had a delicious smoky and peppery flavor. Great tasting brisket. Pork ribs were tender and juicy. Loved the smoky, peppery, and sweet flavors from the dry rub. Service was friendly and efficient. Love the flavors of the bbq. read more
I have always gone to the Capistrano Heritage but the Oceanside one did not disappoint! Lovely sitting area and cool bar. The staff were awesome and kind, super accommodating. And the food was top shelf! I wish I had ordered more for home! I will be back soon as it's the best bbq around! read more
Tried out this place for the BBQ and was happily surprised! First, they have their own private parking which is really nice in downtown Oceanside. I got their banh mi and although on the smaller side, everything was put together really well. It's an American version of the banh mi. The fries are also my favorite kind of fries- breaded and perfectly crispy. The tri-tip in the banh mi was super tender. My family got the other burgers and sandwiches and were also super happy with their orders. It's a little on the pricey side with everything on the menu being around $20+ but I think the quality is worth it! Service was also very nice and efficient. Would come back! read more
The first restaurant I ever tried in Oceanside. BBQ platter here is great! Large serving size for 4-5 people. It's like an endless buffet, and it even comes with dessert. I came on a Wednesday night and it was Trivia night. Really cool to see a restaurant host fun activities. My favorite part of this restaurant, it's family owned and operated. read more
Nice establishment with good ambiance. Came here on a Saturday afternoon in July. Parking was easy and they weren't very busy. We sat at the bar and were greeted promptly but was approached for our order after a wait. Staff was friendly but not very attentive. Beers: S. Coast HWY - Floral scent, on the dry side. Strandhill Stout on nitro- smooth with a clean finish. So special for you. Decent Japanese brew. Light and refreshing. Food was tasty Dry rub wings, smokehouse burger, beans, elote, and beans. Beans over seasoned (salty) and not vegan. I really wanted to give a 5-star rating but they fell slightly short on service. read more

On a Saturday afternoon in Early November, my family and came here for lunch. It wasn't too busy at 12 noon and found parking in their lot. We were nicely greeted and got a table with street view. Inside has lots of tables and big bar with lots of tv's. It has a very nice vibe inside. I ordered the half chicken with 2 sides $22 while my sister ordered 2 meats w/2 sides-tri tip and brisket. The potato sand was really good with crispy fries. The 1/2 chicken was lacquered w/bbq sauce and it tastes so good. The waitress was nice and very good on refills on water and soda. Definitely a great spot for lunch and bbq. We were really full and drove back home to LA. read more

This place isn't that great. It looks great but there's a lot to be desired. The meat didn't seem BBQ enough for me. The ribs were tough, brisket needed more flavor (without sauce), and the chicken was bland. We enjoyed the pickles, pickled onions and peppers roasted veggies with the buratta and the coleslaw (which changes seasonally). read more

In Oceanside for the first time with my sista Lisa. A nice getaway to escape the heat at home. The cottage where we're staying recommended this place. Ty the bartender and our server gave us good advice on the bbq and sides to try. The Tri-tip and brisket were great as well as the sides. The prices were really good. A definite go back. read more

I didn't actually stay and try the food. There is a rancid smell coming from the establishment, and even though employees saw us enter nobody felt it necessary to acknowledge us. I was also really surprised to see that it's cafeteria style at casual dining pricing. It would've been worth a shot, but the smell combined with the staff presentation was so unappealing, I didn't feel compelled. read more

Wings were a hit! Very tender and juicy we ordered the dry rub. Barbecue ribs, sausage so yummy. Watching the hamburgers come out we noticed how huge they are, next time. Service was the absolute BEST!!! Our waiter Dustin WOW!! WOW!!! WOW!! If you have the privilege of getting him as your server, you are in for a treat. Dustin had us laughing from the beginning. Dustin's bubbly spunky happy go lucky personality was just the best! We told him he belongs in Comedy lol he was an absolute delight!! Tip him big he's worth it. Ambiance was pretty cool got to enjoy a few football games and a boxing match. Cool place to enjoy Barbecue, we plan on going back to try their brisket Mac n Cheese and hamburgers. Feels like home from the moment you walk in to the minute you leave. Not sure why there are so bad marks but isolated for sure. From the great DJ (loved his vibes) playing alll the oldies making us jam out In the sun to the cold beer! What are you waiting for?!? Get down here, bring your friends and grab your grandparents. They need good bbq too with some Vitamin D, queso & chips. No bad seat in the house. Belly up to the beautiful bar or bring your girlfriends and meet someone new. Overall we can't wait to come back and feel those beautiful Dago vibes with icy cold beer and savory bbq! read more
This place had many turnovers, the latest is Heritage BBQ. We were across the street and decided to end here for some BBQ. We got the brisket sandwich, and loaded Mac and cheese. My friends got the sampler with tri tip some and some potato salad. The brisket sandwich was pretty good, needed some more bbq sauce. The fries were good. The tri tip meat was good, wasn't too chewy. We were in town from nearby Carmel Valley to drop off our TV for repairs. We were pretty starving so we decided that a sandwich/BBQ place would be easy and convenient. It was very loud and boisterous because they had a DJ (?) in the business who was blasting some type of country music, it was so aggressively loud, and I don't know if that was because they were hosting a market in their parking lot. During the event, they had a backroom where one of the market patrons was doing tattoos... Now IDK about you but that doesn't sound up to sanitation or health standards but what do I know... We didn't find out there was a tattooist working until we had ALREADY eaten our food... Only young people work here which makes sense as it's a Beer Co. and they want trendy young people. The vibe is young but patrons were a variety of ages. Me and hubby both got sandwiches, they only had 3 choices I believe which though small is actually nice so it's easier to pick what to eat. Overall the food was decent, the chili hubby ordered was so-so as they put meat chunks and no beans which isn't bad just different. My sandwich had TOO much mustard and I would probably ask for them to easy on that so I could taste the pork better. Not the best BBQ but definitely not the worst, I doubt we'll be in Oceanside again but maybe their San Juan Capistrano location can change our minds read more

I am usually driving past Oceanside without stopping en route to OC or LA. Recently, I was participating in an event nearby and noticed that Heritage Brewery & Barbeque was right across the street. I made it a point to visit and order some food to go. There is a dedicated parking lot behind the building which is always a bonus. The inside was very spacious including a bar area that had plenty of seating. The initial menu at this location differed from the OG in San Clemente in that meats were not sold by the half pound. I am glad ownership decided to change this because it drew a lot of negative feedback which dragged the overall rating of this business. Besides the family style platters in which meat was sold a la carte with sauce and pickled veggies, the other offerings were sandos, tacos, sides, and shared dishes. For my to-go order, I selected a half pound of brisket, a half pound of tri-tip, and a side of charro beans. The prices for the meats were reasonable given that I recently had the same amount of brisket at a new barbecue joint in the SD area that charged nearly 50% more. I liked the tri-tip slightly better, but both had a really good smokey flavor. The beans were unique as a mayocoba variety was used which was mild and creamy. Brisket burnt ends, onions, and jalapenos were added to the mixture and topped with queso fresco, chicharron, cilantro, and epazote. If beef ribs were regularly served here, then I would consider making the long drive again to sample such goodness. Heritage Brewery & Barbeque does produce worthy low-and-slow smoked meats which I think is better when you order and consume it by the (half) pound. I was happy enough with my takeout food that I gave a four star rating for the experience. read more
Finally got to try heritage bbq and am a fan of the beef ribs. This is the 2nd location and I liked the spacious interior and drink selection. I came with a group of six and we split: 3 beef ribs, brisket, pork ribs, and a hot link, Pesto Mac, 2 Caesar salads, and Nachos. I'm not the biggest American bbq fan but I found all the meats to be juicy. The beef ribs were my fav but were a little salty for me (and I like saltier foods). Overall the bill was about $50 per person which was pricey considering the amount of food but it was good to try once. read more

My expectations may have been too high for this place, especially since my friends rave about the San Juan Capistrano location. I haven't been to the SJC joint, but I decided to try out this place because I was in the area. I'm by no means a BBQ aficionado, but I do enjoy eating BBQ when I have the chance. That said, I ended up ordering the brisket and tri-tip with a side of pickles and BBQ sauce. Surprisingly, the brisket was too dry to be enjoyable, and it wasn't very soft either. It was immensely chewy and fatty, and I could feel its dryness on my fingers as I struggled to pull the meat into a bite-sized piece. I wondered if I was served an old batch. On the other hand, the tri-tip was wonderful. It definitely tasted fresh because it was the total opposite of the brisket: tender, juicy, and flavorful. I inhaled it with ease. Then I was left with the brisket, which was a struggle to finish. Thankfully, the housemade pickles helped a lot. The peppers were fairly spicy, and the pickles themselves were tasty with the ideal amount of acidity and crunch. I also enjoyed the BBQ sauce, which added good flavor to the meat. As for the service, it was acceptable given that they were clearly short-staffed with one server managing multiple tables (5+) by themselves. Delicious meal, delicious beer, and professional service. Who could want more? We had: barbecue chicken sandwich, smoked half chicken, brisket macaroni and cheese (quite spicy) and the Cubano sandwich. Thank you for having such a nice facility and such delicious food. read more

Do the sandos come with a side? Chips or fries or anything? Or just have to purchase side extra?
