Attended for brunch. Reservations made in advance for 12:30pm (highly recommend). We were able to sit on the patio. Finding a shaded area was a bit scarce, but we were able to be accommodated. Our server was great and attentive! As for the food, I ordered the Herbie's breakfast sandwich meal and my friend ordered the Chicken and Waffles. My sandwich was good and plenty; but the aioli was a bit too much which made the sandwich extra oily. The breakfast potatoes were larger than expected. Definitely could've been cut in half more for better roasting. As for the Chicken and Waffles, my friend ordered them Nashville Hot. After taking a taste, we both agree that the chicken was not seasoned at all and it was not hot either - not even mild. Completely missed the mark. My friend had to ask for hot sauce. The experience was not all bad, but we will try to visit during dinner hours to see if that makes a difference. read more

I came here with some friends for dinner. The drinks were absolutely delicious. I got the glazed salmon with Kim chi rice and it was super flavorful and a large portion size. I even had left overs. The dinner menu is definitely more pricey but still reasonable for how delicious the food is and the portion size. read more

No cookies and cream dessert. So we selected the Bread pudding on the menu it states - served warm. It took over 25 minutes ... we kept being told they were cooking it. I have had bread pudding and understand that it can take time to cook and become saturated. Finally it came out and IT WAS COLD!! The server apologized up and down. Horrible Saturday night at Herbies. The place was empty when seated at 6 pm. Ordered a bottle of wine that was out of stock. Second choice came to the table and was warm to the touch? That is just weird. Two orders of steak frites were ordered one medium and one medium rare. The medium was a little blue. Another person had flagship Ribeye. Of those three orders not one was finished. By the time we left there were only two additional tables filled. Seems like everyone knows what we now know. read more

I was pretty disappointed with Herbie's. The restaurant itself is very cool, has a great patio, and the inside is decorated beautifully. Service from our server and the bartender were both perfect. The food was a bummer. The gougeres were delicious but the corn dip seemed like it didn't fit in and was only ok. The airline chicken was dry and overcooked with no flavor, and the garlic greens pasta it sat on was so intensely garlicky that it almost made me sick. I really like garlic. This was so beyond garlic, and the combination of the chicken and the pasta almost tasted fishy. It was hard to describe and very hard to eat. The lobster and crab ravioli was ok but needed something to cut the richness. The steak frites were delicious but also needed something else on the plate. The food didn't live up to the ambiance, the service, or the prices. We won't be back. read more

Fantastic service. I often sit at the bar and several bartenders have given me superior service. The menu is undated and always has something new to try. The new decor and updated dining room is beautiful. A great place to sit at the bar and have a burger and even better for larger groups to enjoy the dining room and the great menu. Was in town for a quick business trip with a group of colleagues, we picked the place based off reviews. What a let down!! First off the waiter - Shelley J. should not be in the service industry. It was clear in her first moments of interaction she doesn't enjoy her job and it continued to show throughout the painful 1.75 hour lunch. Add on top of her poor attention to the table with drinks and communication of delayed food, it was a horrible lunch experience. She did not attempt to make it better. Only got at attitude when we tried to check on the status of our food. Food - I am not sure if the kitchen was having an off day or if this is normal but it took over 45 minutes to get 5 sandwiches. The entire table ordered lobster bisque. It should have been called lobster broth. There was a layer of oil on top of the soup and absolutely no lobster meat in any of the 5 cups brought to the table. The overwhelming response from the group was the food was tasteless except for the over powering flavors of garlic. Save your money and go to a different restaurant. Went for brunch on a Saturday at around 1:30 PM and was somewhat surprised to see it was still packed, but my party of 4 was still able to get seated right away in the outdoor area which was nice. The patio is definitely great for warm and colder weathers (they have heaters!) and has a lot of space. Otherwise, because we were in a semi-tented area it was very loud and sort of difficult to have any conversation without screaming over each other. That aside, the brunch menu was great--I got the smoked salmon eggs benedict which was quite flavorful. Having visited Herbies 2 times for Sunday Brunch, I'm feeling very confident about the 3 rating. Herbies offers a made to order menu for Brunch vs. Buffet style, but they are equipped with both Bottomless Mimosas and Bottomless Bloody Marys, which are great. My first visit for Brunch, I went with a skillet and while the eggs were cooked perfectly, the potatoes were underdone and did not make for a good dish. My second visit for Brunch, I went with the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich, which was just ok. The bread felt too much for the sandwich, so I removed 1/2 of it. I subbed breakfast potatoes for the fries and this time, they were cooked well, but I only received a small amount. Meh.. read more

I like Herbie's! Just went today for brunch with my dad. Unfortunately, my eggs benedict was only okay. But! My dad's steak and eggs were yummy (and a huge portion). I kinda wish there were some lunch options as well (it was 1:30pm when we went). For dessert, I had cheesecake, which was creamy and tart and just right. I waited to post this review after contacting Herbie's with no reply. But this past Christmas Eve was not an experience that has kept me coming back. Our server started off wonderful but this quickly fell off. I admit I am picky when dinning out and expect a lot out of finer dinning establishments. We ordered cocktails to enjoy while we looked over the nights menu, they were very good. We ordered two appetizers and another round of cocktails. The cocktails arrived and this was the last time we spoke to the server until the bill was dropped. The first appetizer (goat cheese in a tomato sauce, great sauce by the way) was brought to the table with no sign of the second. This made me think this was great the server spaced things out so we could enjoy the appetizers separately, which would be a nice touch. Just as we finished the goat cheese the muscles showed up with our mains. This is when I knew the wheels had fallen off and there was no hope of putting them back on. After some confusion (server not to be found) the muscles were left and mains returned to the kitchen. I was attempting to get the servers attention and explain the issue and order a bottle of wine, no such luck. Half way through the muscles, 7-8 minutes later, here come the mains again. At this point I just gave up and told them to put them down. They were served by who I believe to be the manager and a server. The manager asked how things were and I explained the situation and I had intentions of ordering a bottle of wine and a glass of wine with supper but was unable to get the server's attention. She took my wine order and comped the bottle which I did appreciate. Now thinking things were looking better I was wrong. Dishes from the apps, minus the goat cheese dish, were never bussed from the table or the glasses from the previous cocktails. These should have been removed before the mains were placed. Now on the the mains. Mother and father ordered the Beef, Wellington, medium rare. And we're told the portion was intended for two, which I agree it was large. When the food runner returned with plates to split the Wellington they were provided shallow bowls, very odd choice of serving dish for steak. But hell I've been served food on a piece of tile and cutting boards (some chefs have no clue). The portion of the sides were definitely intended for one. The Wellington was great but the sauce was bland could used salt and have been prepared with a better demi-glace. The sides were cold most likely from extra trip and hanging around. I ordered the steak au Poivre medium rare which arrived with a cold bland broken peppercorn sauce, rare-very rare cold New York strip, cold sweet potatoes, but some of the best fries I've ever had. While at a still uncleared table we were ask by our now reappearing server if we were interested in after dinner drinks or desserts and for the first time ever we declined. I informed the waiter of the service issues which to his credit said it was his failure. The bill was dropped. I was just going to chalk to a bad night, they happen. But after a few days I got more annoyed as I recommend this establishment to business partners and friends regularly. If this is how things are going I definitely don't want to recommend Herbies. read more

I came on a Sunday for brunch and it was the patio that attracted us to the restaurant. Atmosphere: I actually loved the atmosphere of the patio. The inside is very nice also. The tables were almost full outside. The vibe was a bit nicer with a mature crowd. Food: The food was very average. I ordered the burger and it was fine, but definitely nothing special. I got the impression that nobody was really impressed with their food but it was a nice size portion. Service: Our service was absolutely horrific. It took over an hour to get our food. I've been coming to Herbies since it opened. And this was the worst experience I've ever had. The service has gone way down the last 3 years, but this was awful. Took 40 min to get a simple whiskey neat with ice cube on side. Got confused brought a old fashioned. Went inside to bar to get next drink- only to find 5 servers standing around, i asked someone to help me get a drink- made it horrible. So i switched to a glass of wine. First off, this review is based off my experience during the re opening phase of the city in June of 2020. I understand these are unprecedented times we are dealing with...however, with that said I think I'll give a very fair and honest review for my first ever experience at this place. Great location, amazing outdoor area for seating and socializing. Inside bar area is cool too. We went here for a birthday dinner...Service (I think one guy was the only server for ALL or outside) was very very slow. Took 35 mins to let us know the wine we ordered was not in stock due to Supplier issues with COVID. (I again understand this but that's a lot of time to wait). Then our appetizers took about 30 more to get to us. Now seated for about an hour. Dinner came promptly after ordering and was pretty tasty. The shrimp and grits wasn't the best in the city by any means but enjoyed it. Others in my group got the burger which looked awesome, a seafood pasta dish that was good, not great. I came here for brunch with some friends on a Sunday morning shortly after they opened. The host sat us outside and passed by a table he noticed wasn't cleaned which was nice. Our server took our order pretty quickly but didn't come back often after. Our salt/pepper was empty and so was the neighboring table. My friend found some a few tables away. The food was really good though I enjoyed chicken and waffles which were crispy and had good flavor. The atmosphere was really nice too. Came for brunch with a group of girls and got the classic eggs Benedict, came out and was missing the chives no biggie, but she's the one that pointed it out and said they were bringing some then never came back. They brought things to the table we didn't order and went ahead and just sat them down even though we told them no one ordered it and then still kept it on the bill. Some girls did the unlimited mimosas for $28 and others just ordered one, they brought out a random mimosa we didn't order and then said they were just gone to give it to whichever of the unlimited mimosa orders who wants it and they drank it cause some girls only wanted 1 or weren't drinking at all, they still added it to the bill. We ended up paying for like 15 dollars worth of things we didn't order, we just put one card down and then figured out the rest later so didn't realize it until later, other than that the food was great. The bennies came with fresh fruit and potatoes and they were both great, the fruit was actually mostly pineapple and strawberries which I like, I always feel like fruit cups end up bring all melons normally and then one strawberries so I loved that it was good fruit. Herbie's was a pretty good brunch spot! The restaurant looked very classy, however I do think the place has more potential than what they are doing with it. The staff also didn't match the vibe of the place. The food was tasty and it was a good amount of food for the prices! Everyone enjoyed their meals and agreed the French toast was a table favorite! It's kind of like the consistency of bread pudding and was very good. It's not really a place for a big group because they squeezed 10 of us into two tables and the manager would not move another table even though there were more available. The mashed potatoes were room temperature at best. The au gratin potatoes were good. The waitress was very attentive, and kept our table clean and drinks filled. She did however tell us that she could substitute any of the sides if we wanted, but didn't bother to tell us there was an upcharge to do so, and indeed said it in such a way that we felt it was a courtesy. On September 20th of 2024 we had our rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding. The staff was ready and waiting for our arrival. They were welcoming, professional, and accommodating. Courtney and Elise went above and beyond by helping me pack up and load my car. The whole evening was so enjoyable despite my nerves. They put me at ease and helped make the evening wonderful. They were easy going and funny yet professional. I will definitely be back and refer others looking for a venue. If this review was only about Herbie's brunch I would give it 5 stars! There brunch is fantastic and I've never had a hard time making a reservation, even same-day on a Sunday, which cannot be said for most brunch places in St. Louis. As a self proclaimed Biscuits and Gravy connoisseur, I can confidently say that theirs is the best I've had in STL. My partner is a huge chicken and waffles fan and he would say the same about this dish. They have great mimosas and do offer bottomless, however, it's not really a deal vs. paying by the glass. The service has always been good, no complaints here. Now, in terms of lunch and dinner, the food is arguably average. It's not bad by any means, but just not memorable. However, the space does have a great vibe during happy hour and dinner. I've yet to dine on the patio but it looks very nice too, well off the street, and has a large fire feature. Overall, Herbie's will continue be a go-to brunch spot for me and maybe I'll give it a couple more chances to match their brunch game at lunch and dinner. read more

This use to be one of my favorite places in Clayton to the point I was visiting almost once a week. This last experience was so ridiculous that I probably won't be back. I placed on online order for the chicken sandwich, only to realize I forgot to remove the cheese. I called the restaurant right after and asked them to hold the cheese. When I picked up my order, there was cheese on the sandwich. They remade the sandwich and one would think they would remake my fries. Nope - they regrows my original hand cut fries rendering them hard as bricks. I only realized once I got home. I called back and they said they would make new fries but at this point I was already home, tired and hungry. The chicken sandwich was barley grilled and seemed a bit undercooked. I don't expect perfection but for $20 for fries and a sandwich, they need to do better. I'll miss their Sunday brunch and their excellent waiter Jason though. read more

I want to start by saying Herbie's not only handled a last minute, 10-top, Private Dinner request, with pleasantry and top-tier customer service, but took time to ask important questions about our reservation (all while knowing this request most likely was not going to be possible to fulfill - with an entire street closure for the STL Art Fair on top of a regular Friday night rush.) By simply giving the opportunity to listen to our reservation details, this opened up the comfortability you want to have with a dinning service team. This is when we were given a chance to share our story. We we're hoping to find a last-minute time to celebrate our friend, a 27-year old who just endured her last chemo treatment AND got to ring that bell, beating breast cancer. From this moment on, the team worked magic to grant us the Small Private Wine Room (which was a beautiful experience in itself, providing extra comfort), a perfect 7:30pm reservation time, and it did not stop there. We had a short notice request to bring a custom cake into the restaurant and the team welcomed serving this with utmost positivity. After graciously offering to waive the cake cutting fees to "join us in celebrating," we knew the night was going to be special. This is when our server, Alex comes into the picture. From the moment we arrived, Alex brought energy, respect, and overall kindness to our evening. After surprising us with a complimentary appetizer & Champagne toast - Alex never rushed our group and was in our corner the entire night! He ended the reservation time by bringing us to the best scenic spot on the patio for a memorable group picture. SHOUT OUT ALEX! If our friend group has learned one thing from watching a loved one fight cancer at such a young age it is: to live every moment to its fullest, love hard, be kind always, take that PTO, & never doubt your abilities. Our night at Herbies was simply perfect - above and beyond anything we could have asked for. Went for Happy Hour a few weeks ago. Apparently, they take reservations for outdoor seating so if you plan to go, make a reservation otherwise you might have to wait for a table. The day we went it was really windy and chilly. What was particularly annoying is that a "reserved" table by the fire pit was available for the entire hour we were there, but because it was reserved we couldn't sit at it. The happy hour Chardonnay that day was undrinkable, which for me is pretty atrocious given that I like YellowTail as well as more premium brands and vintages. We ordered the chicken wings and they were large, fatty and just barley cooked with little to no crust. Even thought the ambiance is nice, the quality of food and drink was subpar. read more

This was really a great experience. Ok so let's just start with the one thing you need to plan before you walk in and that is parking. Not much parking around this place place unless you get lucky or if you park in maybe a residential area that's not too far away. And then there will be kinda of scary signs that tell you that you can park there but not to park there and if you park there it needs to between a specific time and if your already late and you say oh well it's a Sunday morning and who is rally paying attention and then ugh. But after that it is a very charming place with nice portions and food that feel homemade. Though the meals did seem really good I decided to get a combination of sides since they were calling my name. I ordered the mimosa (they do have bottomless options) and breakfast potatoes, bacon and a biscuit. The breakfast potatoes were small whole potatoes that were cooked with a crispy piled finish. Bacon was pretty good and medium sized thickness. The biscuit though was a revelation. It was a huge biscuit with a lightly buttered exterior. And was so good. I paired or will jam and more butter and it was really filling. The mimosas I had were pretty strong and fresh too and I definitely had the full brunch experience with great service.
