Had the Henry Carl a few times now and the food is outstanding. Can't figure out why there's so much staff on duty yet only 2 actual waitstaff on the weekend we were there. The waitstaff are great just pulled all over. Waited 20 minutes to ask for a glass of water while many people stood around including the girl cleaning tables. Ordered and still waited 15 minutes more for drinks that were wrong. Just think if the staff could multitask better maybe things would go smoother and be a better experience. We've been coming here for a few years now and every time we come, it's always good. Now, they have expanded the cafe with a bakery and extra seating area. The place is clean and staff is friendly. The Henry Carl sandwich, French toast churro, B.E.C empanada, liege waffle, and lattes are few of our favorites. Plus they also have daily specials that can't be missed. This place is normally packed during breakfast and lunch time and on the weekends. Stopped by Henry's on a visit to Scranton. What a find. A vintage building given a trendy but tasteful facelift and serves excellent food. The hubby had the Turkey pastrami on rye...called "The Bill & Kay". The rye bread was exceptional and the sandwich came with Henrys' Home fries that were really tasty. I opted for the BLT Salad with Panzanella and added a scoop of tuna. Fabulous! The iced tea was freshly brewed and was some of the best iced tea I ever had. Must be that fresh NEPA water! Hubby also had a frothy cappuccino that hit the spot before his afternoon siesta! This place is delightful for breakfast and lunch. My husband and I must often travel out of this area in order to obtain high quality food due to the generally poor standards of the valley. After many recommendations from fellow foodies, we decided to try this establishment and found our expectations exceeded. It was by far our best meal since we visited New Orleans. We started with the french toast churros which boasted a crunchy exterior and fluffy, warm interior that coupled well with the condensed milk syrup. The breakfast empanadas possessed a delightfully flaky exterior and a robust filling of egg and cheese. They reminded me of little pie wedges. They were expertly paired with a bacon jam that amplified the flavor profile with a sprinkle of heat. Gnocci being served in mac and cheese is ingenuous because it perfectly absorbed the oh so creamy and savory sauce. My DGR burger was a perfect epitome of the establishment with its attention to detail from the tart pickles to the delicate bechamel and the heat from that wonderful bacon jam. My husband's skillet embodied comfort food at its finest. Our takeaway scone and cookie were delightfully homemade but also perfectly well-made. The spot is quaint but we weren't cramped. We were seated promptly and our server was kind and attentive. I'm happy to say that Henry's on Clay provided a spot of sunshine in an area that is known for being a bit drab if not bland with its sprawl of dirty dives and greasy slop. Loved it here! Definitely lived up to my expectations. Came on a rainy Sunday for brunch around 11 but was told it would be a 45 minute wait, so we killed some time at Zummo's Cafe for a bit. Ended up being closer to an hour and ten minute wait, which we were fine with since we were in no rush. The place is very small and the rain prevented outdoor seating, so the wait time at peak brunch rush hour was understandable. Worth the wait! We ordered the infamous home fries to split, and a falafel sandwich and steak sandwich with sides of Greek salads for our entrees. The home fries with Dijon were sooo good, as was my steak sandwich (served with blue cheese on a brioche bun). Everything is fresh and made well, and the menu has a ton of interesting breakfast, brunch & lunch items for those craving savory or sweet. Adorable decor inside and friendly staff. Food all looked great but it was all lacking. Me and my boyfriend stopped in to grab some fast breakfast. We waited an hour for 2 sandwiches. We got a burger and the steak sandwich. The burger was definitely better then the steak sandwich but not by much. It was over cooked and the chips on it were soggy, kinda just a weird way to prepare it. The steak sandwich was super bland and really had no flavor to it. We also got home-fries which appeared to be super crispy but had no seasoning and were also soggy. Management should also probably hold a meeting about what's appropriate to wear to work. Overall disappointing coffee was good thou and our waitress was a sweetheart. read more

We are from out of state but my wife and I had the great pleasure of enjoying the excellent offerings at this quaint, hospitable, delightful restaurant. The Pot Pie soup was extraordinary. My wife said it was the best soup she had ever had. She also ordered a latte which was delicious. I ordered the Henry Carl sandwich. It was a taste explosion! So delicious!! The extra thick turkey meat was an unexpected surprise, no restaurant does this! The bacon was tender and the sauce was scrumptious. We finished with the Dutch Baby. Again, phenomenal!! We came to visit the schools in the area and stopped by for a quick brunch. I highly recommend the chicken and waffles topped with a fried egg. There's a perfect balance between the sweet and savory elements of the dish. The arugula side salad was yummy but needs less balsamic vinegar. The rest of the food was overall lackluster. I was disappointed in the seasonal dutch baby with berries and muffin tin frittata. The Ellen was a regular lox bagel you can order at any bagel shop. The restaurant itself is aesthetic and well decorated. They have two big and clean individual bathrooms for customers. He went out of his way to make sure we had an excellent experience. no kids menu but that doesn't mean this place isn't good for kids. They can make the mac and cheese just regular macaroni and cheese and they can make the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich a regular grilled cheese sandwich. Definitely size adds to the value. Went to breakfast this morning with what I call "our little breakfast club". Actually we are all retired. We get together at least once every month or two and go to a variety of places for breakfast. This week. Erin suggested a little place called " "Henry's" On the corner ofGreen Ridge st. and Clay Ave. In Scranton. All I can say is that it was fantastic. They had a very unique way of serving the food and you get plenty. Four of us shared the potatoes and there was still some left after we all finished eating. I have gone back multiple times for their coffee but I wouldn't recommend it for waffles or French toast churros. Also, avoid going over the weekend, it's packed and the service is really slow. First off, the Henry's home fries are sensational! Ambiance was bright and clean. I will qualify my next statements with the fact that we didn't try any of the pastries. That being said we didn't return even though we were in Scranton a week later. Not anything terrible, just underwhelming. My husband's omelette was fine but lacked flavor as did my frittatas, which were quite overcooked. Cappuccino was mediocre. Service was fine though not very attentive. We ordered the French Toast Churros, the B.E.C. Empanadas, and Henry's Home Fries and weren't disappointed by anything! The churros were fresh and flavorful and the sweetened condensed milk maple syrup was an awesome idea. My husband LOVED the empanadas and hasn't stopped talking about them since we left. To sum up my experience in one word i would say disappointed. To start, I saw many pleasant reviews & a was recommended by friends local to the area. The vibe portrayed online & appearance wise is very similar to a trendy cafe you'd find in the city. My type of place, as I enjoy "hipster style" cafes who specialize in assorted coffees. Me & 2 friends entered on Friday at 10:30am. First impression was that it was packed & seating seemed crammed. Especially the entry way to the counter to ask for a table was almost on top of patrons sitting trying to enjoy their meals. Uncomfortable and chaotic We were told a 10 minute wait for a table so we decided to sit in the car for 15 mins to not be on top of people inside as there is no waiting area to sit. Demographic appeared to be 35yr+ business casual & children as well. Me and my group are a bit younger (not that this matters but will eventually and unfortunately play into our experience later) 15 mins later we decide to go inside & still no table cleared, as a party of about 8 had just gotten up to pay their check. So 8 people + our group of 3 & 2 who just entered the door patiently waiting. It was about another 5/10 mins til a table was cleared. For this reason I would recommend to reserve a table. We sat finally and ordered our drinks. Our group consists of 2 meat eaters And a vegan There was next to nothing as far as vegan options. Surprising for a trendy new-age cafe. We decided for drinks- 2 iced chai's & a water The chais arrived 15 mins later & were literally milk on ice with a pump of vanilla syrup. Iced chai is my favorite & I knew something was up when they arrived. We told our waitress & with an attitude she took the drinks away with no apology. We stuck to water Food ordering came.. We ordered -churro sticks -quinoa queso -hummus plate -pot pie soup -wonton soup -& breakfast bowl special. Churro sticks were stale and mediocre at best but the dipping frosting was super yum -quinoa queso has absolutely no flavor or seasoning, was mushy like oatmeal, and the fried egg on top was over cooked. Where was the queso in the quinoa? Veggies didn't taste fresh -hummus plate was the only true vegan appetizer to order but good. Tasted store bought -pot pie soup was tasty -wonton soup tasted like a bowl of hot sauce with no flavor just a extreme spice & I enjoy spicey food when spiced correctly -breakfast bowl was good and safe option to choose Our waitress was checking on numerous tables yet we seemed to completely be neglected. When we needed something we were left waiting as our food was getting cold to receive something as simple as a refill on water. I frequent many cafes and eat out often. I understand that most food service providers assume that when younger people are being serviced they tend to believe we won't tip or appreciate quality service. It's very disappointing because we were nothing but understanding and patient with her being that it was busy. But a simple "how is everything" to be asked to our group would've went a long way. When we got tired of waiting for our waitress to retrieve things that we were neglected at our table, our food soon became cold & we decided to pack up as a party of 6 arrived. Our waitress was absolutely no where to be found. Another employee noticed us waiting and not eating came around and we asked her for to go containers. Overall our experience was absolutely disappointing. How can you specialize in coffee/tea and mess up a simple iced chai! Food was bland, lacking flavor, & didn't taste fresh Waitress (blonde hair petite probably mid 20s) was unpersonable, didn't carry out a positive experience, neglected our table, & left us feeling cold and unwelcome. I am in town on business and love to try local restaurants for Sunday breakfast! Henry's on Clay was recommenced to me by a local as THE place for breakfast! Boy were she right! When I walked up they had tables outside and some seating inside that was spaced appropriately for the pandemic times we are living in. I ordered the drip coffee and probably the BEST French toast I've ever had! The decor is very modern and cute and service was fantastic! At the end of my meal I asked about their pastries and ended up going home with a sea salted chocolate chip cookie and a brown butter m&m blondie! My hubby & I we're happy to try this restraint from the pictures on their webpage. The server Diana was very sweet & recommended a sandwich. It was supposed to be a chicken on a baguette with a fondue that was to have roasted red peppers and artichokes. So disappointing. The baguette had 4 small chicken nuggets in it with melted Swiss maybe( no resemblance of fondue) 4 tiny cuts diced peppers and not an artichoke to find at all. My hubbies sandwich was delicious so we shared his. The server knew it was our anniversary and brought out 2 deserts to take out because we told her it was but no replacement of the dry sandwich.
