    Bubba's Shrimp Pizza
    Scott S.

During yet another (yes, another--someone send help) trip to NEPA in the dead of winter, my dear friend said, "Scott, I want to take you to this amazing pizza place in Pittston." I paused. Pittston? My skepticism was met with, "Yeah, forget Old Forge and their pizza, you have to try this place called Pizza Althea." Alright, you got me. I was in. So, fresh from my ultra-luxe (insert sarcasm here) stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, I hit the road, only to be greeted by snow because, of course. But, when pizza is calling, you dig deep and remember your "how to drive in snow" skills. Safely arriving on Main Street, I stepped into Pizza Althea, housed in what was clearly an old bank--vault and all. If only that vault could talk, I bet it would have some stories about what some of those "infamous" Pittston people stashed in safe deposit boxes there decades ago. The space is small, with a few coveted seats at the pizza bar, a larger bar area, and a handful of tables. Thankfully, we had reservations because, despite the snowy weather, this place was packed. We were given the option of a table or two open seats at the pizza bar, and we jumped at the chance to sit and watch the pizza magic happen. First, let's talk drinks. Massive props to Pizza Althea for offering non-alcoholic beer, including NA Blue Moon. If I had Ubered, I absolutely would have indulged in their mezcal cocktails (a personal favorite), but alas, drinking and driving don't mix. And trust me, I know. To start, we ordered the "Big Ass Meatball" ($12), and let me tell you--it was big. It had some junk in the trunk and absolutely lived up to its name. We also split the Pizza Shop Salad ($15), which was loaded with greens, Italian meats, sesame seeds, and an absurd amount of cheese. Like, seriously, this thing was huge. We barely made a dent in both dishes because we knew we had pizzas coming, but every bite was fantastic. Now, let's get to the main event. The pizza here isn't your standard "cheese or pepperoni" situation. These are gourmet masterpieces, and narrowing it down was tough. We debated ordering six, but common sense (and the memory of our already massive starters) prevailed, and we settled on two: - Freak Nasty ($25) - Garlic confit, cheese blend, short rib, roasted cippolini onions, taleggio, rosemary, fresh horseradish, and a caraway crust. - Bubba's Shrimp Pizza ($24) - Red sauce, fontina, roasted shrimp, marinated goat horn peppers, banana pepper chow chow, mozzarella, long hot compound butter, and nduja bread crumbs. Both had an airy, not-too-heavy crust that hit just right. The Freak Nasty was rich and savory, while, the Bubba's Shrimp Pizza was a flavor bomb. The shrimp were generously portioned--maybe too generously, because one rogue shrimp took a flying leap off my slice and onto the floor. (RIP, fallen shrimp.) Would I have preferred them chopped up a bit? Sure. Did it stop me from devouring the rest? Absolutely not. We left stuffed. Everything was fantastic, from the ambiance to the creative menu to the shoutout-worthy NA beer. If you find yourself anywhere near Pittston, Pizza Althea is a must. And if it's snowing? Suck it up, channel your inner winter warrior, and make the drive--it's worth it.

Erin was our bartender and she was AMAZING! The service was so great, the food and cocktails were even better. Will definitely be returning! Cannot recommend Pizza Althea enough

Be sure to stop at Pizza Althea if you're in the Pittston area, or tasting beer at Blindcat Brewery. Both spots are definitely on the "return for more" list. Staff could not be more inviting or attentive. Great rotating draft and signature cocktail menu. We split a Broad Street Mortazza, which was spectacular. Definitely need to return to explore more menu specialties. Comfortable seating options. Nice vibe. My kind of place for casual, yet classy, pizza and more bar.

We went there supposedly with a reservation however somehow it didn't reserve but they seated us. This was at 4:15 on a Thursday. Reservation highly suggested. Service was good. We ordered the artichokes, the porketta burger and the Kevin McAllister . All were excellent. Pictures included. Zeppole for desert. Also very good. Great vibe. Music was good. Love having a new pizza place with different entrees. Good luck

Service and food was excellent. Pizza was so tasty and the apps were also big portions. Can't wait to try more items from the menu.

Sausage and Peppers pizza! So delicious!!

The rooftop has stunning views and is beautifully designed with outdoor seating of both Main Street in Pittston, overlooking the murals and the river. The rooftop is also retractable. We usually walk in early evening to head to the bar although reservations are recommended. The drinks are honestly the best drinks I've had anywhere! I've had a pomegranate martini and my favorite this year, guava martini! The drinks are strong and perfectly balanced and flavorful! I haven't had the food but I would highly recommend if you're looking to be transcended from the typical offerings of the area to a more sophisticated venue with great view! The weekly events and brunch I see shared to social media also sounds like they'd be fun!

Our waitress came to take our drink order and we got the peach sangria for 2 which uniquely came in a French press. We ordered calamari and oysters as an appetizer. Then the hot sausage cavatelli and sea bass which were both phenomenal. They also give you a restaurant passport to visit all of their restaurants for a $100 gift card along with $2 off a drink at the speakeasy. Only reason I didn't give it a 4 was that service was extremely slow. Our waitress seemed to have disappeared and by the end of the night someone completely new was just there assisting.

The decor was great, the drinks were FANTASTIC, my food was about a 5 out of 10. I had the carbonara. Very oily and not creamy at all. I would have used a different blend of cheeses to make it creamier and less oily. My guess is they used Asiago. Not bad but not as great as I was expecting. My wife had the red beet salad. Shockingly a $20 salad with canned beets on it. Mediocre at best but the canned beets ruined it. If your getting a salad that features a specific vegetable wouldn't you want that vegetable to be the best highlight of the salad? That was the good part. The service I can't even explain. I'm not sure what happened because if it were like this everyday they'd be closed. We walked in downstairs and was told to sit wherever we wanted and then we were forgotten about. The bartender finally came over after my wife was looking her way for 20 minutes. Bartender apologized for forgetting about us. No waitresses anywhere. The AC I think was off because it was cooler outside on a warm muggy PA night than it was inside. The bar was about 3/4 full and there was one table seated and we noticed about 3/4 of the outdoor seating was occupied as well. Not super busy at all. We waited about 20 minutes before we were approached. We ordered water until we could got our menus and reviewed them. Water never came. Someone else came over and asked us about ordering drinks. We ordered drinks and asked about our water. Water never came. Drinks came. Then yet a different person came over a few minutes later to take our food order. We ordered water again since we were planning on drinking more. My wife's appetizer came out, meatballs. Pretty good, similar but somewhat different flavor than my Italian mothers recipe. When the app came out that person finally got us silverware, napkins and our water. Food came a little later. That's described above. During dinner we had to get up to get refills on water and were never offered additional drinks or anything. We finally stopped someone and asked for our check. My wife had to go to the bar to pay the bill. No one ever came back to the table. At one point earlier we were asked who our waitress was and we all looked at each other because 4 or maybe 5 people were at our table at some point but it was like we still couldn't get stuff we needed. My wife paid with a card she had forgotten to activate and it declined. The bartender gave her the slip and the card and never noticed or told her. She realized it at the table. We had to go back to the bar and pay again because after cleaning that one table everyone except the bartender would vanish. Finally we paid, sweating our asses off in a corner table with the most bassy sound system pounding for 2 hours we got out of there and went to a local bar for drinks. I would have loved to have enjoyed this place and loved to have had more drinks because their bar was the highlight of the experience but it was clear they didn't care about us at all. And we were sweating to death.

They specialize in farm to table and healthy food. Our plans before were running long but luckily their reservation policies were flexible enough that I had no problem moving my time, even on such a busy day. The restaurant was POPPING when we arrived around 4:30. We were seated promptly. The only downside to our experience was that the table was SUPER shaky and wobbly. We asked our waitress for a shim or piece of paper to steady the table but she informed us it was the table head itself, not the legs, so nothing could be done. I was not thrilled about this but assumed that these were tables they hauled out of storage to accommodate the holiday demand, so I can understand. Our server was very warm and friendly despite the chaos. Prices are on the high side but the quality is good and the portions are large. I went for the lobster cobb which was a special and it was LOADED with lobster meat. They really heaped it on. A little light on the avocado, but overall it was really wonderful. My mother went for a seafood scallop risotto which I also tried. It was creamy and flavorful. Our food came out in a reasonable timeframe, and our server was good about getting our check. One thing I really liked was that they put which dishes on the menu are over 500 calories, and most were under. A lovely, healthy dining choice with a nice ambiance. I'd return!
