Henry's Cafe - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Tehachapi, California

I came here Sunday afternoon for a late breakfast. I ordered the eggs benedict & my friend ordered a veggie cheese melt. The servers were nice enough (until I had an issue), but overall were inattentive and despite the restaurant being mostly empty, our service was extremely slow. We were seated and sat there, menus closed, ready to order for 10 to 15 minutes before our server came up to the table. Then, from the time we ordered, to the time we actually received our meals, exactly 31 minutes had passed..... which would have been fine if we had been checked on, or if our drinks had been refilled, or if the restaurant had been busy. When I finally got my eggs benedict I took one bite and something about the sauce tasted horribly off & sour. It was absolutely disgusting and inedible. I asked my friend, and my server to taste the sauce and they agreed that indeed, it tasted funny. My server must have been new because she seemed to not know how to handle the situation and while my server was halfway panicking a more experienced, older server came up to me asking what was wrong. When I explained that the sauce tasted sour, she proceeded to tell me that "Since we go through so much benedict sauce, there's no way its spoiled." I corrected her and let her know what I meant by sour, explaining that the hollandaise sauce tatsed weird, like really tart, almost like lemony/milk and that to me, it was totally inedible. My original server offered to have them remake my meal (I declined), then the older, rude server chimed in & informed me, "There's no use in remaking it, all of the hollandaise sauce comes pre-made (in a bag), so I assure you its fresh & other people LOVE our benedicts." Meanwhile, on the other side of the table my friend didn't like her bland, tasteless food. The veggies on her sandwich werent fresh, the guacamole was obviously premade and the entire thing was lacking seasoning (even salt)....when she saw how poorly my complaint was handled she just decided to pay for hers and we left because we didn't want any more confrontation. Overall, 100% DO NOT ORDER EGGS BENEDICT AT HENRYS. This was a terrible experience and not the first time I have had issues at Henrys..... I don't really like writing negative reviews but due to my love of food & lack of eggs benedict options in Tehachapi, I felt inclined to post this review. Hopefully this helps someone avoid making the same poor food choice that I did & hopefully no one else will get met with rudeness when they don't like their food. read more

This is my favorite breakfast/lunch place in Tehachapi. CLASSIC diner. A couple of booths, a couple of tables, nice waitresses who keep your coffee cup full and great diner food. Some of the patrons get here EARLY (6am) and stay for HOURS- definitely a comfy, home-y spot. It's right off the highway, so if you're passing through, it's not a huge hassle. I'm not a huge fan of breakfast food, but this place serves their lunch menu at any hour. Turkey melt for me! At any hour! I always leave a happy customer. I'll put it this way: I got married in Tehachapi, and on the morning of the wedding, my mom and I went here and had a wonderful mother-daughter brunch. What a wonderful mom and pop place. We were greeted right away and seated fast. Breakfast. ..yum I had the 2x4... this comes with 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 sausage and 2 bacon. Cab we say full! The man got the chicken fried steak,hash browns , eggs and toast. It was just the right Size portions for him too. The coffer was really good too. Stopped by on our way to Vegas. Kids ordered off the kids menu, chicken strips with fries, cheeseburger sliders and fries. Adults ordered chili size with fries, cheeseburger and fries. Food was good and the prices were very reasonable. The staff is friendly and courteous. Will be back and try the breakfast burrito some time. Btw.. they do have a kids menu. read more

Best food (BREAKFAST) in town! Great price, great food,great service! One thing I wish they would just make stronger coffee. It's like water. Other then that we love going with the family. It does get very busy on weekends and it's a small cafe so expect to wait 10-15 min if you come during rush hours. read more

My buddy and I were driving through the area and decided we needed some breakfast. I checked out yelp on the phone and decided on Henry's Café. We found the place without a problem. We were promptly greeted and brought to a booth. The staff there was friendly and would have a bit of a conversation with you if they weren't in the middle of something. I had eggs and sausage and my buddy had an omlette. Both were pretty good. If you are driving between the Bay Area and Las Vegas, this is a great place to stop and have a bit to eat. This place was so yummy! Tried to go across the street to Del Taco, but they were out of beef and beans????? Saw this across the street. Had the BBQ Bacon burger, fries and a 1/2 Cobb Salad. We were driving home and stopped. A little wait but very well worth it. Our waitress was amazing and sweet. We had breakfast and it was so delicious. My son is very picky eater and normally only eats 1 pancake. He had 2 and a half. Wonderful service, food and very welcoming. We will most definitely return next time we're this way. I'm becoming a fan, a big fan. The location is not elaborate but it's clean and you can be comfortable. You can find friendly waitresses. And you can have a nice steady not elaborate menu and so you can find very reasonable prices and have a good time with total nice folks. This is why we like it around here. Even on a hot day you can get a good cup of coffee and I have been known to come here for two or three meals a day. I get me eggs for breakfast and a burger for lunch or dinner. I wanted to like it, really. It could've been better. I came here on a Sunday morning when I'm sure they're at their busiest. I ordered the vegetarian eggs benedict. The eggs weren't as runny as they should have been. Not very runny at all actually. There was something about the hollandaise that just seemed off. It all came with hashbrowns that tasted stale to me. Just dry, like if the portions were cooked beforehand and left out. My fiancé had the french toast which I liked. 2/12/19 driving through the area so we decided to forego breakfast At the hotel & Visit henrys again. Kristie just happened to be our server every time we have visited! Jack had Chile Verde omelette & I had Southern breakfast! 11/8/17 we are in our way back to Palm Springs. We decided to forgo our free breakfast at the hotel to frequent Henry's again. Hubby stayed with the southern breakfast. I opted for French toast this time. Definitely worth the stop. It was packed which is always a good sign! We are new in town and have been trying the different local spots to eat. We got breakfast take out from here and it was really good I had the eggs Benedict and it was delicious. Hubby had the biscuits and gravy breakfast and it was really good too. The biscuits were so fresh and tasty. Our daughter had the kids pancakes and scrambled eggs. This diner has a great atmosphere. Great prices, clean and extremely friendly staff. The staff is always on it! Coffee always got refilled and our waitress always checked up on us to see if we needed anything. What is great about this diner is they have turkey sausage as an option! Henry's Cafe is so yummy and cheerful! The location is kind of unassuming. It's next to an oil change place, car wash, and a laundromat place. But, you go inside, and it's like a little country diner. The staff all wear T-shirts from other establishments in town. It gets crowded most weekend mornings, but the wait isn't too bad. The menu is great. Good old- fashioned breakfast items, as well a a lunch menu. My favorite is the vegetarian eggs Benedict. Everything is beautifully prepared and the home fries are crunchy and to die for. None of that soggy potato taste that happens after it sits around too long. So good. The biscuits and gravy are really good too. Yu can get them as a side item for everyone at the table to share, but it's basically q meal itself. The other great thing is that you can build your own omelette... And they don't nickel and dime you to death when you want more than three toppings. You COULD theoretically say you wanted an omelette with everything and it would be the same price, although probably taste a little crazy. The service was wonderful even though they were busy. My coffee got topped off like six times and they were checking on us consistently. This is a great place for breakfast. I wish they would stay open past 2 pm though!
