Every time I come, the Hendricks staff fails to disappoint (which in retrospect, is a good problem to have)! Now I know you may be saying, "He's the Duke of Hendricks, he's obligated to say that." Well, let me just learn you something; if being the duke means you have the opportunity to eat some of the most epic BBQ of your life in a welcoming, laid back, kid friendly atmosphere, then hell...I'll be the Duke for life! Come and join in the party. Treat your tastebuds to the greatness that is.....Hendrick's BBQ! read more

I went to the Moonshine Blues Bar in the basement of Hendricks BBQ over the weekend. The music was great! I sampled my first moonshine ever. I had the Apple Pie moonshine and it was great! It tasted just like apple pie and the small size was definitely enough. It went well with my pulled pork sandwich. The meat was cooked to perfection and was a very large portion. I was not a fan of the sauce selection however. I like sweet, thick Memphis-style sauce and all of the sauces at Hendricks were runny and spicy. My friend and the bartender were both big fans of the STL sauce though. I had the potato salad on the side, which I was also not a fan of. It needed more mayo/mustard. It was too dry and bland for me. I'd still go back to try a different side and to try the extensive whisky selection in the Moonshine Blues Bar, and more of that moonshine. read more

Overall, this was an amazing restaurant. Customer service was great, food was great, and the food came out fast. The only thing I disliked were the cheese grits. They were a different kind of cut, I'm guessing. But we had The Whole Shebang. Definitely big enough to fill up 2 people! It was my first time and I will most definitely be back! read more

Hendricks BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - St Charles, Missouri

We enjoy this place and have been there several times. Great atmosphere, nice vibe, and the food is pretty good. We usually get a three meat plate with a couple sides, and that is enough for both my wife and I. The bbq isn't quite as good as say, Sugarfire or Pappy's, but it is still tasty. The pulled pork is the best, the brisket has a nice peppery Texas style rub, but can be a little chewy. The St Louis ribs are good also. Among the sides, we like the green beans, sweet potato fries, and the cheesy grits. read more

One of the worst meals I've ever had anywhere! Mediocre service, at best. Brisket was fatty. Pork steak was excessively fatty. Food was tepid. Served a grand total of 3 onion rings for $6. Not a bad deal for the restaurant. Save your $$. Salt and smoke is just down street. They will treat you right. Forget Hendricks nightmare!! read more

Service was fast. There's a full bar. My wife had their Summertime Gimlet based on cumber infused gin. Very nice, but pricey for a cocktail. On tap beers weren't that good. The prices were high for bbq on a metal platter. My wife & I both had bbq sandwiches. The rolls were a bit dry and on the small side for the price. Meat was good, but again the sandwich was smaller than I'd expected. The sweet potato fries were plentiful and tasty. My wife didn't care for the cole slaw. The beans were good, but skimpy. I liked the sweet potato and pecans. We split a blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Great ice cream, OK cobbler. It was fresh baked and large, but needed some more sweetness. The atmosphere was nice. Downstairs music was just starting up. Judging by the full parking when we left the place was probably rock'in later on. read more

The meats we tried were very good. The sides were small and tasted just ok. If you wanted meat with sides you had to buy a combo meal and pick two meats. Well, I didn't want two meats. I wanted to just get ribs and a couple of sides which I could do but then I would have to buy my sides separately and they wanted like $7 to $8 each! Overall I like I said I thought the meats were good but the pricing situation is out of hand since the menu makes it difficult to get what you want. I probably will not go back. read more

Hendricks BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - St Charles, Missouri

This restaurant is located in new construction in Old Town St. Charles, next to a new-ish hotel. Parking is either near the river or on the street (cobblestone!). The restaurant has a decidedly schtick BBQ house feel, but that's not a bad thing. The place has a great smoky smell to it you can smell down the street to whet your appetite. The food was excellent. I had ribs, pork, and hush puppies with cole slaw. The food was all outstanding, I really didn't have any complaints whatsoever. the only thing was the price. For $30 you get a beer and three different meats. I don't particularly care, the company paid for it. But I still get the feeling that I paid "too much" for what ostensibly was only about 9 oz of meat. And this was lunchtime. read more

I was first taken here by my best friend for my birthday dinner and I have been back several times, and always bring someone new with me, so they can experience the Hendricks yum factor as well. Parking is down in the lower lot near the river road, you take an elevator up to the restaurant -(while you are downstairs however, peek your head in the door and take a peek at the super cute Blues Bar that has some really great talent playing there on Thurs,Fri, and Saturday nights.) The smell of smoke hits you while you are riding up the elevator and makes you even more hungry than you were when you first got there. I have always been seated right away, except for one night, and I think we waited maybe 15 minutes, which was not a problem, they have a great bar with lots of whiskeys to try ( though my favorite drink there is the Smokey Sangria) so we just bellied up and got a cocktail while we waited. Service has always been good. Very friendly staff. Favorite appetizer? The bbq nachos..... huge portion, definitely wanna share with your table mates. Favorite Salad? the 7 layer salad!!! Hands down the best. The dressing is a very sweet, sugary dressing that I am sure is just like my grandma used to make.. it's amazing. Definitely enough for a meal. The bacon in it is sooo good. Favorite meet is the beef brisket, but the pick 3 is a great option to try things out and find YOUR favorite. The cheesy grits are HEAVENLY.... my husband and i get a bowl and split them as one of the sides to our meals. The creamed spinach is so good too. I'm telling ya, I don't think i have EVER been disappointed with anything I have ordered. I went for lunch once with my sister and did find that the menu is different for lunch than it is for dinner, so be sure that you know this before you go for lunch. Still good stuff, just less options. If there is one negative to the place, I would say that it is pretty loud in there. and it's not so much the volume of the people in there as it is the chairs being pushed in and out and how much it echos. the chairs are kind of heavy I guess and when they are pulled in and out, they make a huge sound. Sounds silly i know, but its definitely something I have noticed as well as my friends that are with me. read more

Un.Be.Lievably delicious. Hubs and I stopped in St. Charles to crash with a friend on our cross-country road trip back from our honeymoon, and the goal was to get BBQ in every city where we dined. This was by far the best experience we had. We sidled up to the bar and loved seeing the old rusty butcher's-knife tap handles. The bartender was friendly, greeted and talked with us for a while, recommended a couple of local beers (all the ones on tap are local craft!), and we ordered some specials to go. We drank the beers while we waited, and they were delicious. The wait, by the way, was almost nonexistent. They had our food out to us in I think less than 7 minutes. I got the Texas-style brisket on special, with a side of sweet potato casserole and--I honestly can't remember the other side, because that one was so bomb, as were the ones with DH's meal. DH got the pick-two, with sausage and pulled pork, sides of cheesy grits and bacon-braised greens. Holy. Moly. It was all so mouthwatering that I wanted to inhale it. Portions were huge, too, so we had plenty left over for breakfast omelets in the morning. Thrilled that we made this awesome decision in our brief 12-hour visit to St. Charles. Can hardly wait to visit this place again. read more

This is the first of what may be two reviews because I will probably give them another try for dinner. My first experience today was for lunch. This place is pretty much a knock-off of Famous Dave's. That is to say it's not too bad but this store has a lot of room for improvement nonetheless. Same bluesy and rustic vibe/decor. As I said, went there for lunch today, 9/27, group of 3 guys from the office. It's a great space, still seems to be under construction and the elevator wasn't working exactly properly...whatever. Anyway, here's the BIG fail-no lunch menu. All I had was a pulled pork sandwich and iced tea. With tip-$18. Will never go for lunch again. I'd like to try the ribs at dinner time to truly get a read on the food. That's the ultimate test. So regarding the food I had today; pulled pork was very good. I've had better but this was above average. Bun was a tad on the heavy side. Cole slaw was good. green beans were unusual. Frankly I'm not sure if I liked them or not. I guess I'd eat them again so that's a positive, right? We didn't order it but I understand it's $5 for a basket of bread or rolls which seems pretty high when many restaurants in this price range give them for free or cheap. One of the guys I was with really liked the baked beans but said there weren't enough. Generally we all liked it but all agreed it was over priced for lunch. One other thing, maybe I missed it but I didn't see a pork steak on the menu. I think that's a miss in STL. As for service, I'm going to give them a pass for being new but am going to say they were very s-l-o-w, again for a lunch. The place was at most half full and it took well over an hour from in the door to out the door. Bottom line, I'll give them a try for dinner sometime and let you know how it goes. ps, here's a suggestion to the owners (if you're not already doing it)-since you're copying Dave's, go to the one in Uptown Minneapolis and copy their Sunday blues brunch. Best thing ever. read more

This place was located right next door to our hotel, so we had to try it. Fitsy off the free appetizer by checking in from yelp was really cool. They have 4 or 5 different bbq sauces to offer. The appetizer we ordere was stuffed pork rolls kind of like a dough potsticker with jalapeño sauce. These were ok. The had carrots in the and taste was ok. Secondly, we shared a chicken ceasar salad, which was very good. Good garlic creamy dressing and killer crutons. The chicken had great flavor as well. For main courses we had the baby back ribs, which came out on a baking sheet, cool! They were very large and meaty, way too much for a single person. The smoke flavor was mild and the ribs were nicely carmelized, but not over done. They were juicy without sauce, but i enhoyed the house bbq sauce and St. Louis sauces. The sweet sauce was horribly sweet, not a fan.... All of the sauces were a little runny-thin. The pulled pork was tasty as well and flavorful. I however DO NOT recommend the brisket.. The brisket is long shave strips which was very over cooked and dry, it was almost like eating cardboard. .. We had house rolls, really good with a honey butter. The yam dish was incredible almost like a dessert, one really well thought out and tasty side. French fries were just ok but a good frozen product. The coleslaw was by far the best side. It had a hiny of horseradish in it which gave it a pleasant kick.. Overall this is a 3.5 star place... Service was good and attentive. The ambiance is nice and clean with cool musical artists artwork on the walls. read more

Hendricks BBQ - Baby back rib slab - Barbeque Near Me - St Charles, Missouri

I've been to a bunch of BBQ places around STL and St. Charles, but have somehow missed Hendricks until now. First impressions? Interior decor is nice. There's a patio, which is of course where I opted to sit. They have moonshine...and they even serve whiskey flights. Gotta hand it to them for having a nice focus on the sophisticated drinker. As for the food: The menu selection is pretty wide. They have a bunch of choices for different appetizers, such as hush puppies and BBQ nachos. You've got your standard pulled pork plates, brisket sandwiches, and all the BBQ favorites you'd expect. I ordered a brisket sandwich, and chose the cheese grits and collard greens for my sides. For around $14, the brisket sandwich was fairly meaty, with a nice, rich flavor. My sides were also pretty good, but I was a bit bummed at how tiny the dishes were that they came in. I guess I was expecting a country, southern style portion size for them! My date ordered the nachos (it was Cinco De Mayo, after all) and thoroughly enjoyed them. The sauce choices were alright, but they were all pretty watery, causing a big mess for my fingers. It'd be nice if they could find a way to thicken some of them up. Final words: Pretty tasty, but on the pricier side with somewhat small side dishes. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. If you're looking for BBQ + booze selection, they're a great place to consider. read more

I have NO Idea what people are talking about with poor service and bad food. I have been to Hendricks 3 times now and every time the service has been very good and the food has been outstanding. The cornbread with the honey Tabasco sauce is AMAZING! We have not been disappointed at all. Yes, sometimes there is a wait, but what do you expect from a great restaurant at dinner time on a weekend? Seriously good pulled pork, smoked turkey, ribs (especially the Baby Backs) and sausage. The sides that we have tried have all been excellent. Their cocktails are also quite nice. I love good BBQ and Hendricks is one of my all time favorites. read more

Hendricks BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - St Charles, Missouri

I love BBQ. Being from Chicago and looking for a place to eat during my stay, this place popped up on Yelp. I am so glad it did. Oh course I have my favorite BBQ place in Chicago, but this is the first place that can even be compared to my favorite, that I have tried. No, I can not say that this is better, but it is equally as good! I will be sure to visit this place again when I am in the St. Louis area! read more

I'd give this place 5 stars for atmosphere and drinks and about 3.5 stars for the food. Overall, this is a great space for a BBQ joint and is perfect for groups and happy hour. I loved the use of mason jars for their drinks and the rustic feel for the tables/chairs and lighting. I had several Bloody Mary's and it was a unique surprise (made with BBQ sauce). The beers on tap are great and we loved the BBQ nachos. The meats had great flavor and the sides were OK. We were honestly very disappointed in the portions for both sides and the "Pick Two". My husband got the Smoked Turkey and Pulled Pork. The pork was a rather small portion. The same goes for mine - I had the Turkey and Brisket (which was small). The sides were even worse. Their sides were served in a small ramiken - barely the size of a side of salad dressing that comes out! Our friends ordered the mac n cheese "Family" and it came in a small bowl that would have been suitable for ONE person. So for 2 $18 meals, we were a little disappointed in what we got for our money. I guess we're used to the huge portions you get at Oklahoma Joe's and other hole in the wall joints we've checked out over the past few years. So overall, good food but not worth the money for dinner. I'd highly recommend this place though for appetizers and drinks with a group. Fun atmosphere and unique drinks! read more

I had smelled the smoking meat from a 1/2 mile away and it smelled great. I went in and was very impressed by the interior decoration. Hendricks dropped the ball once the food was delivered. I ordered the pulled pork platter with macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and sweet potato fries. The meat was great, but I could have eaten the serving in 3 bites. I would say the macaroni and cheese was great. My mother ordered the 7 layer salad with pulled pork on top. The salad was iceberg lettuce without all the fixings of peas, green peppers, and onions. The salad dressing was mayo and so much sugar it was gritty. The corn casserole was also dry. A bit let down Hendricks read more

While the food was above average, and was served very quickly after ordering, we waited over 20 minutes for a table for two, when there were at LEAST 17 open tables. I spoke with the GM and was told that they had a lot of reservations and that the kitchen was backed up, both of which were BS excuses. When we left the lobby was crammed with new parties, and the same number of empty tables laid waiting. There is no excuse for the poor management. We will not be back! read more

I loved this place! My father recently moved to St Charles not far from Main St, so we have been exploring the restaurants in the area recently. I have been here twice in the past month because I really liked the food. On our first visit we shared the sampler platter, which had 6 meats and 4 sides. This is the most tender brisket I have ever had.... sooo good and really loved the green beans and baked beans. My second visit I had the BBQ pork nachos and oh my goodness they were amazing! Who knew how delicious baked beans could be on nachos?? I'm addicted, I'm craving them again already. Dessert was bourbon pecan pie, very filling but tasty indeed. Both times we had the same waitress, she was great! Always friendly and efficient, kept our tea glasses full. Can't wait to return for more nachos! read more

We had a party of about 13 people and made reservations in advance. We placed our order and it took a long time to get the food and as we were missing things we started to ask where the salad was and was told we don't have lettuce and we asked for ketchup and mustard for the hamburger and was told they had none. We order a lot of plates with BBQ and no sauce was on it or at the table, after everyone was done eating I found out there was BBQ sauce she just never gave us any. After everything was delivered she asked if everyone got their food and mine was never turned in. My food arrived after everyone was done eating. My husband asked for his fresh fruit and she said they had none but she could give us apple sauce which was never given to us but was on our bill. We had to hunt her down to pay her and we were the only 2 left out of 13 because of the wait we told them to go ahead and leave we would wait to pay. When we left our waitress was sitting in the car arguing with somebody outside which explains why we didn't get anything we needed in a timely manner. When I called to talk to the manager nobody answered it went to a recording. I am still a little in shock over the poor service. read more

Food was good service was great. We all liked the beer variety, and the bourbon list is amazing. We started with pork cracklings and fried green tomatoes. You don't get many cracklings but they are really good. The tomatoes were actually cooked almost perfect a few were alittle dark but still delicious. I order smoked sausage, it was more like a spicy smoke sausage you buy at your local price chopper. Note this I thought I was ordering a sausage plate but I only got a bare plate full of sausage no sides no bread. My wife got the veggie burger and sweet pot fries, burger was so so fries were good. The couple with us said they liked there's so I cannot contest. The service and atmosphere is where it was at. Oh I did try some of my buddies pulled pork and it was really good, remembered now cause I wish I would have ordered it read more

July 4th Festival at Frontier Park was an excellent opportunity to re-visit Hendrick's Barbecue. There has been a worrisome quality regression that continues. Missing is a continuity of flavors, presentation and service, each time different from the previous. Brisket was dry and uninspired, cut in large, thick slices this time, versus slender slices previous. This makes a big difference when the course is chewy. Fat cap containing much important flavor was almost non-existent. Ribs were equally dry, the outside resembling more a tree-bark consistency, and stringy. Though requisite flavors are mostly there, sauce is required. A bright spot continues though, in the unlikely category of sides. The prepared cheese grits remain tremendous! Finally, the store was far from filled, maybe one quarter the way, but service was so slow, and mindless, that the feeling was if all was overbooked and filled. On the list, reminders to servers about multiple things promised earlier, utensils requested long after food served as many diners were seen reaching for same on other tables, and a pesky pre-tipping policy that would make most cringe. Yes, incredibly, diners are asked to inform the server in writing of what their tip will be BEFORE they run your card. The "service bar" on this day was the regular bar. Perhaps always the case. And, if that bar-tender is not interested, similarly uninspired or subbing elsewhere in the confines, your drink order will suffer, for a looong time. Lastly, the apparent temporary hostess was ill equipped to greet arriving patrons or handle the table assignments without constant help. And here, hopefully the owners will take notice that "help" is needed. read more

Atmosphere is adorable (5 stars!) and location is outstanding (5 stars!) but since food is likely why you would venture to a restaurant, they get an overall rating of 3. Got a smoked turkey club and it was mostly good (loved that it came with 2 sides)... the meat just wasn't awesome. The creamed spinach was good, but the mac n cheese was kind of dry and bland (disappointing since it was an upcharge). Not giving up on this place yet, I'm determined to go back and try something else because I want to love it. read more

Yum, yum give me some! My mouth is still happy from tonight's dinner. The blueberry jam stuff they give you with the cornbread is out of this world. Smoked turkey had great flavor and the pulled pork was extremely tender and flavorful. Mac and cheese was super creamy with just a hint of spice. Creamed spinach and beans delicious as well. Mom got the chicken biscuit sandwich and it was superb. Only question is what to try on the next visit. Not sure why people whine about the portions. Both people in my party went home with leftovers. read more

Mentioned that green beans were very salty and could not eat them. Response was oh. Waitress was combative. Waitress applied a 20 percent gratuity. Food was average. Small portions for the price. This is a great place for great BBQ! I love BBQ and during the spring, summer, and fall I smoke my own meat. This is the first place I've been that I actually say to myself "I would have a hard time replicating this meaty goodness at home". The meats are amazing. The perfect blend of smoke and spice with good burnt bits on the brisket and somewhat on the pork. The sausage is also good. And the pork cracklins..well...they're sinfully good. And you've also got to try the bacon milkshake! The BBQ sauces are also extraordinary. The one made with molasses will make you want to slap your grandma. There are only two things I don't really care for about Hendricks: 1) Everything is a la carte. You have to order meat and sides separately and the portions of the meat are somewhat small. 2) Since you have to order everything a la carte it can get expensive. I would say $50-60 for two people wouldn't be out of the question. It is definitely worth going to, its just a bit expensive. The ambience also is quite nice. read more
