Boys night out on a Saturday and we decided on Salt + Smoke in St. Charles. It was pretty busy but we got in in under 5 minutes. The smells were orgasmic- that alone made the trip worthwhile. As usual, service was prompt and attentive. Selected foods were: wings, brisket, pulled pork, chicken and, ribs. All were excellent. Sides of creamed corn, mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts rounded out the dinner. Parking on the street is real hit or miss, but there are free parking lots in the area. read more

We stopped in for lunch while out enjoying the beautiful day on Main Street St Charles. Aiming for the patio, but didnt want to wait so we settled for a spot inside next to the bar. Service was attentive and helped with the beer choice of the meal and with any questions about the menu we had. Thinking we got here right in time because the inside soon was full as well and it definitely can noisy if you are sensitive to that type of setting. Help Me Understand My wife and I recently went to Salt + Smoke for lunch. We've had good food and positive experiences there in the past, which made this visit especially disappointing. After being seated, we received our drinks and placed our order for both an appetizer and our meals. While waiting, we watched six other tables get seated after us. We did receive our appetizer, but then continued to wait for our entrees. During that time, four of those tables were served their food, finished their meals, paid, and left--before we ever received ours. One table of eight, who arrived after us, was seated, ordered, ate, paid, and left ahead of us as well. Our waitress did not say a thing about the delay but was also helping and bringing food to these other tables. I understand that delays can happen, but this was difficult to overlook. This was my first time to this location and it did not disappoint! It's located on main st St Charles a historic shopping and dining street perfect to walk around before or after getting a bite to eat. We got the burnt end roasted ravioli and they were pipping hot and crunchy on the outside with a smoky meaty inside that was balanced nicely by the ranch. We also got the wings and the ribs both were tasty but the wings were the star being both smoky and crispy was a perfect combination with the mustard BBQ sauce they used. I always have such a great experience at any Salt and Smoke location. The food is consistently good and I appreciate that they don't have too many options, so they can really focus on making their food high-quality and delicious. I always get the green bean with tomato side, which is super fresh, and this time I went with their mac & cheese! It's always a winner. I've been to main street in st. charles time and time again. and would usually pick one restaurant to hit on each trip. Well, the last few times I'd been by, I'd seen Salt+Smoke, but either it was packed or closed when i was there. My FIRST rule of any restaurant is "what is the server's favorite drink". Well, being a bourbon place, my first question had to change to "what is my server's favorite bourbon". And Susan (Or was it Sarah? No I think it was Susan), she made a wonderful choice for me a Smoky bourbon (I think it was even called . the Smoke Stack?) In fact, it was so perfect that it wasn't even ON THE BOURBON MENU LIST!!! Sold out? Gone? Nope, just wasn't even listed... so much so that she wasn't even sure they still carried it. I told her we were going to try our luck and VOILA!! She said they had it, but didn't know why it wasn't listed. OFF THE MENU SPECIAL DRINK = BONUS STAR! I went here along with my friends, one who had tried this place and loved it, and the other who was trying for the first time. Both had a great experience and really enjoyed their food! I was tagging along as the vegan friend, so while I understand this restaurant is not intended for plant-based eaters, I still want to share my experience. I believe that if a restaurant decides to offer a vegan/vegetarian or plant-based menu option, they should make that food option on-par with the quality of the restaurant. Sadly, this option was nowhere near quality. The Falafel Burger, while sounding great in theory, failed to meet a bare minimum standard of enjoyment. Once I put the top bun on and picked up my burger, both the buns and patty began to crumble and fall apart. The flavor was lacking, and the texture was quite grainy from the buns, and mushy from the patty. I have been to many restaurants that offer some sort of veggie burger option, and the majority have been at minimum a nice and decent option, and some even quite good or great! I was very disappointed with this meal, as the rest of the experience was lovely! Friendly staff, beautiful location and atmosphere (we sat outside.) I did enjoy a lovely drink from the bar, the Walnut Old Fashioned, which was the best part of my meal. Overall, I think this is a great place for meat-eaters, but the Falafel Burger has either got to be reworked into something decent, or scrapped and replaced. read more

The restaurant does offer an upstairs and downstairs. Dim lighting, not too bright. Booths, tables and bar height seating available. We ordered two apps: Trash Ribs & Chicken Skins. They came out pretty quick within a couple mins of ordering so I was surprised. Both were pretty good, I would've wanted them to be hotter. I felt like it was pretty room temperature. Flavor was great though! For dinner, we opted for the Bacon Burger, Brisket Sandwich and 2-choice brisket/ribs combo. Overall the food was pretty good, the fries were definitely the star of the show. I think we could've enjoyed the food a little more, but it was unusually cold in the establishment, which is the only thing that made me take a star away. My husband and I came here on a cold day for some lunch on a Monday. The place had a decent crowd but wasn't too busy and we sat upstairs. To start we got the hush puppies with maple butter. The maple butter was so good! To eat my husband and I both got the two meat plate with pulled pork and burnt ends. The pulled pork is so good and one of my favorites to always get! I got potato salad and mac and cheese as my sides. The potato salad is creamy rather than more vinegar based. The mac and cheese is my favorite side and I always get it! Then they were out of the beer I really wanted. So I ordered two 1/4 pounds of meat: pulled chicken and pulled pork. Pulled chicken was not worth it at all. However the pulled smoked pork, was amazing, but about a third of the pork was pure fat. So no strike against them for being out of brisket but the beer and chicken, that sucked. The pork, while delicious, they should have checked what they put on the plate. Other than the kids pulled pork sandwich that came out with basically a huge blob of fat covering all the meat (not even my carnivore bbq-loving self would've been interested in that... let alone a kid!) - not sure how that made it by their kitchen, expeditor, and server to put in front of a child! But they quickly fixed it for us as there was plenty of service staff around. The ribs were phenomenal, along with the fries, hush puppies, mac n cheese. Basically everyone at the table loved everything they had! Of note the burger is basically a smash burger style and was a tiny patty, that one of our guests had to order a second patty. I think this can be something that is either clarified on the menu or by the server, or better yet, changed by the kitchen to be more of an actual burger. My husband got ribs in sweet sauce- good thing there was sauce, rib meat was very dried out, he also got chili and corn, he enjoyed the corn. This appears to be their standard that many other local restaurants could take heed to. I ordered a pineapple margarita which had a Tajín rim and was nice and refreshing. I usually get the Bestie Platter but switched it up and got a Brisket Grilled Cheese Sandwich. I'm not a huge fan of American Cheese but this pairing with pimento cheese layered with the brisket and tomato aioli hit the spot. The buttery bread brought it all together and was not soaked by the sauces etc. My side was beef fat fries (fries cooked in tallow) that I shared with those who had never had any and they were delighted. I'd like to say that by no fault of their own our group of 30 had booked a dinner at Salt + Smoke. Unfortunately, we were supposed to be in St. Louis and not St. Charles. When we arrived in St. Charles, the staff was very confused as to why we were there. After everything got worked out, the St. Charles location was able to scramble to accommodate us. Fern was so helpful in the work around and communication with St. Louis, and Jackson our waiter was very gracious and quick to make sure that we were taken care of. The food was excellent. We've been patrons of Salt+Smoke since it only had one small location on Delmar years ans year ago. We visited Friday (3/28/25) and couldn't find any photos of the fried pickles so we thought, "what the heck" and ordered em anyway so we could provide yall with some! The white cheddar mac is an absolute must have. If you've been here and haven't had it, you're missing out! The meat is always tender, flavorful and the perfect base for their homemade sauces should you choose to use them (they aren't really needed but theyre there for a reason!). I typically order the pulled pork sandwich but we had a gift card so I figured why not go bigger...and I was STUFFED..couldn't even finish the sides (which made me sad because theyre that good lol). My husband always appreciates how the ribs aren't extra for the combo and has grown to love smoked wings, so those two options are perfect for anyone who feels the same way. The food ALWAYS comes out SO fast, to the point where we almost try to bide a little time ordering so mom and dad can be out a little longer!
