Excellent value, food is very good. I absolutely love this place, I order all the time. 5/5 - I recommend this place to all my friends. read more

A nostalgic meal that brought me right back to my childhood. The savory and sweet chili sauce dressed over the tender chicken sitting on a bed of ginger rice. My partner basically inhaled his meal while driving back home to Rhode Island. Wish this was a franchise that expanded to Providence! Looking forward to coming back when in Boston. read more

This place is amazing! The best parts of this meal are the sauces and the rice. I would get this again soon! read more

Hen Chicken Rice - The Mix - Thai Near Me - Somerville, Massachusetts

Hen Chicken Rice doesn't offer a wide variety, but it does what it does very well indeed. My fave is the Crispy with ginger rice. Delicious, light, good as leftovers, and fast to arrive if you order delivery. yum. read more

Incredible meal! Pick up was straightforward and contactless. Normally I'd have some photos but verything was so delicious that I forgot to take any. The spicy crispy chicken and spicy wings were my absolute favorite, followed by the super flavorful, peppery, and savory daikon soup. I wish I had ordered even more soup! Thai iced tea was superb. The mix was good but not as flavorful as the spicy chicken and spicy wings, but that's alright. The flavored rice could have used a little more ginger and maybe salt but still was savory and done very well. The subtle pairing of cucumbers and cilantro were a perfect match for the savory spicy flavors. Quite refreshing and tastes like summer vacation. Next time I'll have to try the dessert! read more

'The Original' was delicious. Generous portion. Service was prompt and friendly. Appreciate the use of composable container and straw. Thai iced tea is also good and not overly sweet like a lot of places around. Only minor complain is I don't feel I had enough dipping sauce. Will ask for more next time and hope they won't charge for more! read more

We bought our usual order from this place, the Original and the Crispy. However, the taste is different from what it used to be. The Original chicken skins still have some hair on them, and the Crispy is dry and not as juicy and crispy as before. It looks like the quality of this place is going down. read more

Awesome any day lunch spot. Fast and delicious. I always go for the crispy and a mango sticky rice for dessert.

I got the spicy chicken which was crispy and flavorful...I don't like ginger so I should've asked for the sticky rice but that's on me. The boiled chicken was well boiled chicken but the sauce that came with it was great. Heads up! Lots of black pepper in the soup! read more

Great lunch spot! I've been craving chicken and rice and when I saw this place I couldn't resist ordering delivery. I got the combo and gobbled it down before I even had a chance to take a pic. Their peanut sauce was vinegar-y and delicious. Soaking the chicken in it was I also ordered an extra daikon soup by accident because I didn't see that it came with the meal. But I ended up drinking both. Take from that what you will read more

Hits the spot! Easy to order, quick preparation, fantastic packaging, and delicious food that sends to you Singapore--perfect in a horribly cold night in Boston. Will definitely be coming back! read more

Hen Chicken Rice - The Original and The Crispy in wonderful packaging! - Thai Near Me - Somerville, Massachusetts

Such a delicious new spot in Union Square, Somerville! They specialize in Asian-style chicken rice! It's a poached chicken on flavorful seasoned rice, served with a specialty sauce, sooo delicious! They also have a fried & spicy chicken option, and that tasted amazing as well. Definitely try their sauces because they really compliment the dishes. read more

Yes! This will be a new staple. The chicken is awesome and everything in the dishes works together nicely. I love the small menu done well.

Pretty solid place!! Had low expectations but the chicken was yummy (both crispy and not crispy) and Thai iced tea was good. Would go agaun

Absolutely fantastic. We ordered two of the original chicken rice and loved it. The soup is very peppery but also delicious.

I'm glad they opened! Been waiting eagerly for them to be able to. It's important to understand what this is in context before you say "meh". It's supposed to be simple comfort food. It's not the kind of complex hit of sour, sweet, fishy and spicy you might be familiar with when you think Thai food. This is fatty with notes of mostly sweet from the sauce. Good on a cold day, especially the daikon soup. I think it lends itself well to takeout (I dig the paper containers and environmentally mindful packaging). We need this place and I wish them lots of luck and support through the Covid winter! read more

I got the mix and it was so delicious! The best part was the sauce! My order was ready so quickly too!

Fantastic meal! The owner chatted with me for a few minutes and was the friendliest guy. I was blown away by the taste and crispiness of the fried chicken wings - wayyy better than Bonchon. The staff in the back was also incredibly meticulous about the quality of chicken. 100% will go back if I'm in the area. read more

Great authentic Thai chicken rice! The daikon soup is a good compliment. Will definitely visit again !

Super nice folks and a great meal for the price. The sticky rice with fried chicken is my favorite!

I got the mix, half boiled and half fried. The chicken was good but I felt like other Hainanese chicken places give more chicken for the same price. read more

The flavors were really good! But I think the portions were small for a $13 price point. I would've been happier paying maybe closer to $10 with the portion of chicken that was given. Lots of ginger rice though. Also the soup had way to much black pepper for my tastes. read more

I love this place! The chicken dishes are amazing. The flavor is excellent. The sauces are great. So glad to have this place in Union Square. read more

Simple, tasty chicken and rice. Daikon soup was also very good. I assume it's made with the stock from all the chicken they boil and pairs perfectly. read more

I ordered this for delivery two days in a row because it was that good! My first order I got the crispy chicken with sticky rice and the Thai green tea. My second order I got just the crispy chicken alone with the normal Thai iced tea. Their chicken transports pretty well during delivery and the drinks are delicious. I think I actually prefer the Thai green tea over the regular Thai iced tea! You have to give it a try! read more

This is one of those places that specialize in one thing and excel in it. Ordered the mix, daikon soup and Thai ice tea via UberEats. Did not know that the mix comes with a daikon soup but after the first sip, having two cups of soup was not enough. The daikon soup blew my mind: it's a thick chicken soup with simple ingredients (salt, pepper, ginger, and of course daikon) but the shop cooks it so well that you can guess the time and effort they put into it. It's a bit more gingery than I like but definitely the best chicken daikon soup I've had in a long time. The chicken mix was good too, and thumbs up for the ginger sauce that goes great with the plain one. read more

Fast, delicious. Reminds me of our trip to Singapore. Have eaten there many times since they first opened.

I'm surprised by the positive reviews for this place. I ordered at the counter, was told it would be a few minutes, came back to pick it up, and my crispy chicken was neither crispy nor even warm. Very surprised they don't prepare fresh for each order. Very disappointing. read more

I've ordered Uber eats from here twice now. Very solid chicken and rice with decent side sauces. The amount of chicken they give you in one order is a bit small for my appetite. Wish they had a larger menu, but what they do they do well. They also give you a simple soup on the side complimentary. If you like crispy chicken and rice, you'll like this place. read more

The type of food isn't for me, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not a good restaurant or good at what they do. I personally thought the thigh meat was a bit rough for me. My Bf really enjoyed the chicken and rice and sauces. His only complaint was wish they had scallion oil. The portions are pretty good for one meal and won't leave you hungry. read more

I have yet to find a good chicken and rice place in Boston. Hen Chicken Rice's traditional boiled Hainanese chicken was very mediocre - it wasn't soft and flavorful like the authentic dish and came with way too much rice (not to mention way too little chicken for the price). I am not usually one to complain about too much rice, but it was just ginger rice...not chicken+ginger rice - again, straying from authenticity. The one saving grace is that their daikon soup that comes with every order is SUPERB. read more

Very good chicken and rice. Nice meal to keep you comfortable and full. It's also ready in very short time. I ordered online when I was waiting for the traffic light. My order was ready after I crossed the street. It would be great if there is more vegetable. I'm Asian and a meal with little vegetable makes me feel a little incomplete. I'll definitely order from them again!: ) read more

Ordered 5 different dinners and 3 different sides of extra chicken. All was good except the "Lean" dinner of white meat and the side of white chicken breast. It was shockingly dry. Inedible and unable to chew so had to throw both away and split the other dishes so everyone had food to eat. I don't think the white meat came from the whole chicken like it is supposed to. It likely is purchased chicken breast parts and cooked separately which means it was way over cooked. Maybe they buy boneless chicken breasts because customers prefer white meat and they can't cook enough whole chickens to accommodate this preference. But the marketing means we expect Thai style whole chicken pieces. I threw away $11.95 inedible dinner and $5 aide of dried up white meat chicken. If you are ordering, get the thigh meat. Generous 3 stars as this is the first time in 3 orders with very dry inedible breast meat. Oh the turnip soup must have been the bottom of the pot since all 5 cups of soup were filled with pepper and also couldn't be eaten. read more

It all tastes so amazing! And then I feel like total crap 10 min later. MSG is my guess haha maybe in the soup and sauce?

I ate the food so fast I didn't have time to take pictures. I spent some time in Thailand, and would go to the "Chicken Lady" of the town to have Hainanese chicken almost everyday. The food at HEN really brought me back. Juicy chicken, flavorful rice, the ginger sauces! I anticipate becoming a regular for sure. read more

Absolutely delish! I got the 03 mixed and Thai iced tea. Soup was super warming and flavorful, chicken and rice were yummy (crispy chicken stayed crispy!) and the sauces great. Everything was packed really well for delivery. Highly recommend! read more

Haianesee chicken and rice, simple ginger rice served with steamed/fried chicken, dipped with fish sauce or shrimp paste sauce, so delicious! My favorite part of this meal is the soup that they give you on the side, tastes like "home". read more

Food is pretty good, but the portion size is small for the price. If you want good hainanese chicken and bang for your buck, go to Penang in Chinatown. However if you're in the area and have a craving, this will do. read more

Just tried "The Heat" and loved it! A very simple dish that allows you to enjoy the high quality ingredients. The chicken was juicy inside and crispy on the outside, immediately you'll know that this is really fresh chicken. It's mildly spicy and flavorful, just don't expect any burn if you're a spicy eater. The rice had a very subtle hint of ginger and the addition of the sweet chili sauce worked well to pull the dish together. The included daikon soup was also tasty, though a bit on the peppery side. Would definitely recommend trying out this new restaurant if you're looking for a quick and comforting meal. read more
