This is the best meal we have had in a long time. We have lived here for years and never heard of Hemingways Tavern, until friends asked us to join them. There were 4 of us and we all enjoyed our experience from first walking in we were greeted immediately and taken to our table. We requested to sit on the patio. As we walked through the restaurant, there is a bakery/ espresso area and small gift area. We ordered the Hibiscus margaritas and they were spot on. From there we ordered the smoked wings and conch fritters both were delicious. Although, we are from Tampa home of the original"Cuban" sandwich we all decided to give theirs a try, and we were not disappointed. There are walls filled with pictures and memories of Hemingway throughout the restaurant. Whenever family or friends come to visit, Hemingway's is always on our list of places to take them, and I also frequently meet friends there for lunch. The service is consistently excellent, the Key West-inspired atmosphere and décor are wonderful, and the food is fantastic. There are so many great choices on the menu, but my personal favorite is Ernest's Rib Platter--it's absolutely delicious! And whatever you do, save room for dessert. The Pineapple Upside Down Cake is fabulous! Hemingway's has that wonderful combination of great food, friendly service, and a fun, relaxing atmosphere that keeps us coming back again and again. I normally come during the week & sit at the bar. Service is usually prompt. I went Sunday after a movie & had a different experience. Waitress was friendly. Guac app took a while. I was more than half way done the app & my son was asking about his mac n cheese. We ordered everything at the same time & asked for the app to come out first. Once we finally got our food, there was no yucca. She informed me they would be out shortly. I asked about them once I had a couple spoonfuls of beans & a corner of my fish left. Once I got them they were disappointing. Dried, overcooked & too salty. I sent them back for veggies. The manager came by & apologized. I wanted bread pudding but decided not to order. We both ordered a Cuban and she had fries and I tried the Cole slaw and the black beans and rice. The meal was delicious. The sandwiches were absolute perfection! The black beans and rice were tasty. I wanted to go get my birthday ice cream cone from Ben and Jerry's and we saw this place next door and had never been so we tried it out. I had the Cuban sandwich with yuca fries and coleslaw. Can I say yum!? Best Cuban I've had since The Columbian closed in St. Petersburg, Florida. I enjoyed every bite except the one my wife ate cause you know, she ate it. She had the pulled Mojo pork and wow that was amazing. Plantains were delicious and made perfect. Received a free dessert that was huge which was the bread pudding. We took that to go and had it later that evening. I'm not a big fan of that dessert, but this was delicious. Service was outstanding. Eric was attentive and a gentleman. We had heard a lot of good things about Hemmingway's & we were really looking forward to going there. But the food was a huge disappointment. My ribs which were supposed to be baby back and a house specialty were tough and still had the membrane on the back of the ribs. My partner's Cuban was OK. However, the soup which was a chorizo potato was nothing but broth and had one potato in it. Our server was really great no complaints there, but when you go out to eat, you go for the food which did not measure up. We won't be back. read more

I was treated to a Father's Day lunch by my wife and Grandaughter and we all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. Sat at the bar and Casandra (our bartender) was amazing. Answered all our questions and really knew what was good on the menu. My wife and granddaughter had the "Unforgettable" signature cocktail which was delicious! I had a local Amber Draft. Food was amazing. The Snapper Hemingway was fantastic and my wife had blackened Mahi Sandwich and of course my granddaughter had the Cuban sandwich with Truffle fries were awesome!! Hubby and I were traveling down to Miami from Jacksonville for a cruise and it's always a struggle in the mid point of our travels on this route, as I don't like chain restaurants and there are not lots of options. I called to verify the distance off 95 and they had to put me on hold to find out the answer. Strange. I can see the map on my GPS but wanted specifics from people who make that drive. Once we were seated, It took at least 8-10 minutes for a server to stop by and say she would be with us shortly meanwhile three hostess were just hanging out and chatting. Why could the hostess not get some drinks for the table? Also multiple managers were coming and going. I don't eat farm raised seafood so I asked her about the mahi when we ordered our drinks and appetizer. She did not know the answer. I suggested she ask the chef. She came back with the drinks but had forgotten to ask about the mahi. When she returned, she verified it was wild caught. We ordered the yuca cheese bites to start. They were undercooked and while they had a good sauce, we didn't even eat half of them. Hubby ordered the Cuban sandwich and fries. He thought the Cuban was bland and one of his least favorite Cubans ever. He loves fries and could not eat these as they were so overdone. I ordered the blackened mahi sandwich and as soon as they served it, different person than our server, I thought it smelled fishy. I cut it in half and tried to eat it but it was so mushy and fishy. I started feeling ill and had to go to the restroom and get rid of what I had eaten. We never saw our sever again after she stopped by shortly after our food was served so there was no way to share how bad it was. My husband finally walked outside to wait for me while we waited to get our check. When she did come back, I told her the fish was not good, but paid the tab in full and left a 20% tip. The reason for my one star rating is they were very cautious about our request for no onions and the sangria was good. I am not sure if it was an off day but we don't plan to go back. The concept seems good but the execution is off. We don't mind spending $75 for lunch if it's good but this was not. read more

While on the way to Miami, stopped in Melbourne and searched for the best local place to eat. Hemingway's Tavern topped the list- and well deserved! Hemingway's provided a very pleasant dining experience: the restaurant has a fun theme, a treat for Ernest Hemingway fans but also isn't too obnoxious with it that one who wasn't would feel isolated. The staff is friendly, and despite the very busy dinner crowd we were seated hastily. The food is to die for. I had the Havana Burger, cooked to perfection with a delicious jalapeño aioli for a bit of spice (but not too much). I wish for the price it came with a side but the burger is very filling. Even better was the plantain bread pudding! I'm not normally a plantain guy but the addition of cinnamon, caramel glaze and the vanilla ice cream base was the perfect balance. I left Hemingway's very full and very satisfied, and will be coming again soon. read more

Took a day trip to the Melbourne area and stopped here for lunch! Great place with lots of personality and a distinct Florida vibe. Got here before 12 on a weekday and got seated right away but this restaurant is very popular and was completely full when we left. We discovered that Tuesdays were discounted martinis ($7) so we ordered the Key Lime Pie Martini which we loved. The graham cracker crumbs on the ring were a fantastic detail. They have a ton of menu items to choose from ranging from cuban sandwiches and conch fritters to classic burgers. I had the Cubano de Langosta which is filled with lobster meat and was absolutely delicious. I also ordered it with a side of truffle fries which were equally tasty. For dessert we ordered both the beignets and the bread pudding. The bread pudding order was a large amount, four decent sized slices. It was pretty good! The beignets however were only okay for me. The service was spectacular and everyone was so kind and attentive. Will definitely stop by here again if we're ever in the area! read more

So nice, I went twice in one week lol being from Miami, I had my doubts about trying the Cuban food from Hemingway's but OMG! The food was authentic and sooo delicious!!! As a Cuban-American, it definitely has my seal approval. The tostones de cerdo asado were insane! Don't let the maple syrup throw you off like it did to me. The flavor combinations pair perfectly!!! I also had the cubano de langosta...what an amazing twist on the classic Cuban Sandwich. Was not expecting the generous amount of lobster that was in the sandwich... they do not skimp! I also had the creme brûlée doughnut. It's not on the menu but they do have it if you ask. It was mind blowing! I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did and it tasted even better the next day (couldn't finish it all in one sitting)! Our servers during both visits were so nice and very attentive. This is one of our favorite places to eat when we are in town. My oldest son lives here and likes coming to eat here too. This is a cozy, Cuban themed place with lots of great decor and a southern vibe. There is a lot of great things on the menu. We started out with the truffle fries, which was so tasty! Then for entrees we had the Premiere burger, the Cuban Combo, the Linguini Carbonara with lobster and one without lobster, Caesar salads, house salad, and the Island Steak Sandwich. Food was really good, but the service was a little slow. The restaurant was very busy and servers were moving quickly so my guess was the kitchen was a little backed up. It happens. We got dessert this trip and tried the beignets, which were crispy and sweet. The prices here are very fair and the portions are large We love coming to Hemingway's when we visit my son, so looking forward to coming back soon. read more

If you're familiar with my reviews, you know for me, five star reviews have to be earned. Hemingway's DELIVERS! This restaurant has it all and the ambiance is phenomenal! First, there is a Cuban cafe with pastries and delicious coffee as soon as you walk in and it has a walk up window as well. The entire restaurant is covered in a flair of Hemingway, Cuba, and the Florida Keys including a live streaming view of Mallory Square in Key West on a screen on the back wall. Be sure to check out their merchandise as well which includes shirts, spices, candles, and glassware. All classy, tasteful, and reasonably priced. Most importantly, the food not only perfectly compliments the motif, it is excellent! Classic Cuban and Floribbean cuisine that is delicious and authentic. You will find classic Cuban dishes like the Cuban sandwich and ropa vieja, and also excellent seafood dishes and eccentric combos of southern Florida style entrees with a Caribbean flair. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly. They are attentive and helpful and work to make sure you enjoy your dining experience. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and check this place out. It is now our go to place and I feel like Ernest himself would love to sit there and enjoy a rum. read more

Let's get straight to the point. Are we all glad that we found this place on yelp and decided to do an hour drive just eat here.. YES. There's four of us in total. We decided to get together and take a random trip to Melbourne for lunch. Based on the yelp reviews and all the delicious looking pictures of the food, this was definitely a winner. It's kinda hard to miss this place when driving by due to the large happy hour sign on the side of the road. There's also little signs right next to the restaurant letting you know you're here. You just can't miss this place. It's located in a shopping center right next to a movie theater. I do like the fact that they have a walk up window if you would like to get a to go order. There's seating inside and outside, so choose to your preference. It's been beautiful outside so of course the outside seating was a wait so we decided on the inside so we can be seated right away. The staff was super friendly, which turns out she was in training. The menu has so many amazing options that it did take us a bit to decide. Our appetizers that we shared. Olive Tapenade- if you love olives, this is your dish. The flavors were on point and definitely something light to start your meal with. Yuca bites- absolutely do not pass this up! Such a creamy texture inside with a cheese dipping sauce. My main dish was the truffle avocado BLT with a side of truffle fries. I don't know if I'm immune to truffle because I'm always wanting truffle on everything. But I didn't taste or smell any truffle. It was good, but I think I would pass on it and I probably should've ordered something else. I was very much considering ordering Cubano de langosta but my husband talked me out of it. Since it was lunch, he figured I would like something simpler. I'm never listening to him again. Everybody at the table loved their meals, and with such large portions, we all had a to go box. Came here a few times and always great food and service. It is also one of the few spots that stay open late. They have daily drink specials too! Key West Bowl is fantastic...definitely recommend. Very flavorful and even if it doesn't look like a lot, it should fill you up. I get the avocado added which is absolutely worth it.
