Rarely do I go to a chain restaurant for barbecue but as I was in the Melbourne area around dinner time on a Tuesday I decided to give it a try. I had actually been in this Smokey Bones about 15 years ago and when I walked in I realized nothing had changed style wise and some of the booths were very worn. Our server came over immediately and asked about drinks. After a quick glance at the draft beer list we decided on two 22 ounce beers. As I always like an appetizer we chose the onion rings which were well made and served with a nice sauce. For main courses we ordered a classic cheese burger with bacon with a premium side upgrade to the loaded baked potato. We also had a 1/2 rack of signature ribs with premium side upgrades Mac and cheese and loaded baked potato. All the food was fresh, hot and tasty especially when paired with the four barbecue sauce choices. For a chain restaurant the food was worth the price. read more

Experience: New Year's Eve afternoon around 12:15 and we placed a Togo order. Facility: This place smells amazing as soon as you walk in. Not surprisingly it smells smoky and delicious. I'm also hungry The place has a sports bar vibe. Lots of TVs if you want to watch the game. They have high and low tables and chairs, bar seating and some booths. Service: We tried to do curbside order online but they don't allow you to use more than one gift card and I had 2 to use. So I went inside and placed the order. Paula took my order and she was awesome and helpful. Also, while waiting for the order to be done, a manager and even the bartender came by and checked on me to ensure I had been helped and to see if I needed a drink. Everyone is wonderful here!! Food: Bacon cheese burger and cheese fries - 3/5 the burger was great although somehow they forgot the bacon, but I told them we only wanted cheese and bacon on the fries, but they put some weird sweet bbq flavor on them. My kid wouldn't eat them. A waste of our money. Korean lollipops - 5/5 these were good... I especially loved the sauce as it had the perfect amount of spicy heat. Brisket sandwich - 5/5 yum... loved this!! Crispy Texas toast style bread with cheese and BBQ brisket. Sweet potato fries - 5/5 they were good according to my kid Banana pudding - they did not have this, but the manager replaced it with 2 other desserts, which was very kind. Hot donuts 5/5 - these are sooo good! We didn't eat the sauces, but this flavor reminds you of fried dough at the fair. Really rich and yummy!! Overall: I will definitely be back. I hadn't been to Smokey Bones in forever, since the one in Boca Raton, FL closed down. We had a delightful chat with our server, Amy, who helped us make wonderful choices for our lunch. The pulled pork was a favorite, the mac and cheese was just scrumptious and I really, really wanted more garlic toast but I held myself back. But..... when they become so cheap that they water down their cheese dipping sauce for the pretzel bones it makes me wanna go, Now why do I love this place? The advertisement for dessert was in need of a wipe down, as were all the bottles at the table (although obviously someone used to do that because most of the wording was missing from the bottles of BBQ sauce. Served with 2 sides and garlic bread." The brisket wasn't "smoked", it wasn't "Texas Style" and it wasn't served with a "signature BBQ sauce". The meat was tender and moist, but there was not the slightest hint that it had been smoked. It tasted like a fatty home oven cooked roast that was seasoned with only salt and pepper. Now to the food: Brisket- I found this to be a bit fatty and dry. Once I added BBQ sauce it was good. For sides I had the baked potato. We arrived midweek at 3 pm. Only 2 other tables were occupied. Walking through the restaurant to our booth, I noticed the floors were sticky. Not a good start. I ordered half chicken, white meat only, and my husband ordered 1/2 rack of ribs and added a chicken breast. After considerable wait for our food (despite the fact that the restaurant was empty), my husband's food arrived without the chicken breast. Server was extremely apologetic and returned to the kitchen. Meanwhile we began to eat. My chicken was lukewarm at best. I the corn & potato were hot. Server returned with a boneless chicken breast (rather than the bone-in quarter chicken we ordered). Server sincerely apologized and took responsibility for the error. After a while, the bone-in breast arrived. It was also lukewarm. When settling the bill, the server continued to apologize. We told her that the kitchen "let her down." She offered to send the manager over to make an adjustment on the bill. We weren't looking for an adjustment, just a heads up for the kitchen because improper holding/cooking temperature for food can make people sick. Nonetheless she went to the manager and returned with my husband's chicken removed from the check. Another kudo to her. I wasn't going to post areview, chalking the experience up to a bad day for the kitchen. However, the manager brought food out to a neighboring and immediately made a beeline back into his office without the courtesy of stopping by our table to offer his apologies. If mediocre-at-best fare, unreasonable prices, and lackluster waitstaff didn't make it clear enough, the glacial pace of the kitchen itself would indicate the inferiority of this entire operation, although supposedly Smokey Bones outperformed the casual dining industry during the pandemic and was certified as a Great Place to Work two years in a row. Maybe that is because its CEO has been professing in industry journals for the past two years to be focusing its restaurants on the drive through and take out business, which would certainly help with Katie's cleaning conundrum. We came here as a random choice between the family. We had a party of 5 and we were quickly sat. We were greeted and ordered by our lovely waitress, Fish. :) She was absolutely amazing and engaged with us the entire time. She showed us many valuable options but we settled on her recommendations. We had the pretzel bones (not pictured) and they're were amazing. Ask for the Parmesan ranch sauce it's amazing. My wife ordered a stacked baked potato which has cheese sour cream pulled pork and bacon sprinkled. She loved it!!!! The boys had a meat bucket aka bone fire grill. Smokey Bones has been a staple when visiting family in Brevard County. It had been a few years since I dropped in, but I had always considered it to be on par with some of the other big box chains. This was a less than stellar experience. I am giving 2 stars because the gentleman who greeted and sat us when we arrived enumerated customer service. Went on a Sunday so no specials (clearly denoted on the menu but unfortunate). Also, if you are a hot tea drinker, you may want to get your fix elsewhere because they haven't removed it from the menu and allegedly don't carry it anymore. Waited close to 30 minutes for the food. The meals were lukewarm at best. The potato was absolutely pathetic for an entrée that its running you $20 and up. The steak had no flavor or zest to it. The waitress was MIA for the 90% of the visit, having only asked if we needed anything when we received the food and when the bill was requested. We didn't ding her for it on the tip because everyone has off days but I have zero interest what so ever in going back. Maybe the portion sizes have always been this small, but this was the 1st time that I left a restaurant hungry and needing to stop somewhere else. I probably would have sent the food back if I wasn't so hungry but not like we could have caught the waitresses attention anyway.
