First pub I been to that serves Lindemann's, the Lambic I love drinking.
Jan-Michael T.

**INITIAL REVIEW** Along with the now-defunct Bat Cave Gastropub, The Broken Barrel Tavern (which I will shorthand simply to the Broken Barrel) is the other bar/pub establishment that happens to combine nerdlore and pub culture. It is often a fine place to enjoy a brew, enjoy a meal, and enjoy company with friends that is within the busiest parts of Palm Bay/Melbourne city limit without having to trek to any of the historic downtowns. Broken Barrel is often one of the places my church crew and I frequent after our studies on Saturday night. Every single time, it has been a fine experience. Ergo, if anyone were curious of trying out the pub, I would always highly-recommend it in general. To start, Broken Barrel is located in a strip/shopping mall in the southwest quadrant of the formerly "most dangerous intersection in Brevard County," Palm Bay Rd./Babcock St. The strip/shopping mall is called Sabal Palm Square, the same strip/shopping mall Twisted Biscuit is located. Broken Barrel, however, is more in the middle in between a Boost Mobile and a kid's place called YuJump. From the outside, the storefront for Broken Barrel really doesn't stand out compared to the rest of the stores in the strip/shopping mall. Maybe the two storefront windows and double-door entrance shows a semblance of a traditioal bar, but that is about it. It is when you enter you know you're in a local bar/pub. To the right are pool tables and dart boards with a couple of large group seating arrangements. Directly in front is the main dining area with the bar front and center. The southeast corner of the main dining area has been sectioned off as a small makeshift stage for nightly entertainment acts. I have seen local comedians and musicians perform here over my numerous visits. As for the decor, typical bar/pub style but with a modern twist. One of said modern twists includes chalkboard walls with artwork, quotes, and names chalked on by patrons, both regular locals and visitors alike. For dining fare, we will start with the food in which it is typical modern bar/pub fare given the Broken Barrel love/spin. Think of BBQ nachos, BBQ egg rolls, bleu cheese fries, fish dip, and fried handholds (wings, cheesesticks, etc.). For mains, think of burgers and sandwiches. That is the bulk of their menu. My crew and I had plenty of the foods Broken Barrel has to offer. Some of the foods worth mentioning are the chocolate and peanut butter pie slice (dessert), the sampler (appetizer), and pulled pork plate (main dish). As for drinks, they have your typical soda products which is good for those who can't enjoy a beer or for the youngins' not of age yet, but they have a nice selection of domestics and local beers. I seen the main brews of local breweries, including Hell n' Blazes, Intracoastal, and Playalinda, featured on the beer menu. For those who want something a bit more familiar, they have domestics like Miller and Corona. I, however, was surpised they had my fav beer of them all: Lambics. Took it on myself to enjoy a Lindemann's, which is the commonly distributed Lambic I can think of here in the U.S. Add in that the waitstaff is friendly, especially my aquainted friend Abby, in which we known each other since her days working at Arcade Monsters, Broken Barrel is one of the better places, that is specifically a bar or pub, to enjoy on the Space Coast. The only downside: Broken Barrel doesn't accept Apple Pay or Google Pay. There was a time I only had my digital wallet on my phone and well... let's just say I am thankful my friend Rachel had Zelle. I paid her, she paid Broken Barrel. Even though I have been here only a couple of times, I am giving Broken Barrel four out of five stars. One or two more visits, if they stay consistent, I'll give them their fifth star.

The Broken Barrel Tavern-4700 Babcock St. NE, Palm Bay, FL 32905 3.5- Stars The Broken Barrel distinguishes itself as an unfussy tavern, offering homestyle barbeque (including meats smoked on-site). The tavern is located just inside Palm Bay Center. I had previously reviewed Broken Barrel, in my pre-Big Boy days. On that occasion, I had assessed a four-star rating. In the present, my appraisal will be 3.5-stars, owing solely to the enduring strength of the smoked wings. Incidentally, Abby is our ofitsiant qiz. Upon further review, ordering barbeque first thing Monday morning is likely far from ideal, as the pulled rib meat maintained a mushy texture and possessed a lethargic consistency. It betrayed the telltale aroma of a microwave reheat and presented as subpar fare, likely the product of yemeless indifference. Despite the admittedly woeful pulled rib platter and indeed standing in stark contrast, the eight wings were most delicious. These were perfectly smoked, exceptionally tasty, and reminiscent of a caliber and quality that would allow them to be just as delectable, if eaten cold tomorrow. Big Boy Says, "Skip Monday's leftover barbeque and go straight for the wings."

When the smoked/fried chicken drum is crispy and the size of 1/4 of the chicken... epic yum! Add the Bourbon sauce

When the smoked / fried crispy chicken drum is a 1:4 the size of the whole chicken - epic yum!

Wing sampler that was so good I almost ate the bones.

No, they have several sauces from which to choose.

Westside Sports Bar & Lounge- West Melbourne, FL 4.5 Stars…read more "Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what's for lunch." - Orson Welles Glancing down at my name generator, I couldn't help but chuckle a bit. I was headed to West Melbourne to check out Westside Sports Bar & Lunge. I was chuckling as in my mind it's still the 80s and West Melbourne is a wasteland, not the teeming metropolis it is today. Shaking my head, I headed OTB. I love my sleepy little island community, but even I had to admit that the Melbourne Metropolitan Area has grown leaps and bounds and I like it. More businesses are moving in and that means, yep, you guessed it, more eating establishments. To that end, I pulled into the lot of Westside Sports Bar & Lounge, parked and went about the business of providing the working public with unsullied food reviews. I was greeted warmly upon entering a lovely lady who introduced herself as Mandy. Mandy is my bartender, waitress and cook today and she has to be the most non-oleaginous person I have met wearing all of these hats In fact, she was quite the opposite exuding the patina of a bar warrior. I asked Mandy for a single malt, neat, one Cheeseburger (medium-rare), one order of 6 Wings (medium heat) and a Philly Cheesesteak. As Mandy turned to get to work on my grub, I took a moment to take in the joint. I love coming to bars early, you can smell the stale alcohol and fun from the night before. Mandy returned with my Scotch and I must say, it looked like a good 3 oz pour...very generous. As I am 163 days sober, I won't be tasting it, but what a bang for your buck. The place is loaded with fun games and had a classic inviting bar atmosphere (think local watering hole). Mandy soon returned with my standard bar fare and I turned my attention to the job at hand. While the food may have been the standard found in Sports Bars across this great land of ours, this was far from ordinary. The Cheeseburger was cooked to a perfect rare and served on a grilled bun (my favorite kind of bun). The onions, lettuce and tomato were all garden fresh and generously applied with just the right amount of mayo. The wings were cooked to perfection and the sauce had just the right amount of "oomph" to know you had a bit of heat in your mouth. There was a complex mix of sweet, tangy and heat that made my taste buds do a little shimmy. Moving on to the Philly Cheesesteak I paused to take in the perfect symmetry the sandwich presented. The meat was perfectly cooked, the bun seasoned and grilled and the whole thing was flawlessly executed. The Big Boy says, "If you're looking for a place to hang your hat for a bit, hunker down with some good grub and drinks with friends, look no further than Westside Sports Bar & Lounge." #bigboydiningout
