Found Dustin's BBQ driving around in the Melbourne area. Curious to check out their menu we stopped in. Reminded us of Shorty's bbq in our hometown of Miami. We had an awesome server who was extremely attentive and continuously checked on us. The food was good, cornbread was warm and exactly what I was hoping for. To be honest, the ribs i ordered were somewhat too dry for my taste but with the bbq sauce they tasted better. I've never been here before and safe to say I probably will not be back. My family wanted to go because of the salad bar and that is where the ordering should have stopped. The ribs looked so dry and overcooked my brother in law couldn't eat them. I was not a fan of whatever sauce they use on their wings because it has this sticky sweet taste to it. I think the salad bar and French fries were the only thing people liked. Not to mention it felt like we were being ignored most of the time we were there. Poor man's Sonny's BBQ and it shows. I have been here several times and in honor of my mom I have tried to follow her advice" if you don't have something nice to say......" but three strikes and you are going to get an honest review. So the staff carried the day each time but they can not make up for the food quality. Their fried okra is the best. We get it every time and it rocks. However, the specialty, THE BBQ, should carry the day and it is missing in action.......SO DRY no amount of BBQ sauce can save it. The garlic toast was not what we have come to expect...it was more like Italian bread cut on the bias and over toasted. Inedible. The interior is exactly like Sonny's so it was familiar. They have a salad bar which I ask why? This is a meat place. MEAT MEAT MEAT and unfortunately they missed the mark. So I guess that answers why they have a salad bar. No military or first responder discount and to listen to the waitress not much of a work climate. A small discount on meals (only one a day even pulling a double) and no take out. I mean the restaurant has the look and feel cookie-cuttered for multiple locations, yet I haven't seen any other Dustin's Bar-B-Q's outside of the one in Melbourne. Nevertheless, the restaurant is more than decent pertaining to what they serve. As mentioned earlier, Dustin's Bar-B-Q has the same look and feel as a restaurant that is one link in a chain. Think of how Cracker Barrel looks and you'll get my drift. Rustic decor, high-class picnic tables refurbished for indoor seating, red-and-white checkered tablecloths, the whole look that is stereotypical of Southern hospitality. And top of that, the place (as much as I have seen) is primarily clean. This detail extends to the restrooms too though the occupancy may be a hindrance for women. Ultimately, the food is what makes or breaks any restaurant and Iam happy to report the food here is great. They have many kinds of Southern foods like fried okra, mashed potatoes, sweet corn, cornbreak, biscuits, gravy, turkey, ribs, and the rest of the fixins. All that my crew and I ordered was to point and very delicious. Dustin's Bar-B-Q gets four out of five stars. The only reason it doesn't have a perfect score is the last star is dedicated to continuity. One of my researchers was able to find out that they have been around since 1991, with their flagship perhaps being their Deland location, though this could not be confirmed. They are family-owned and operated and have expanded to 6 locations spaced from Orlando to Ormond Beach and down to our beloved Melbourne. Pulling into their Melbourne location I was greeted with a barren parking lot. Exiting the Big Boy Mobile, I am pretty sure I heard the wind whistle and witnessed a tumbleweed roll on by, but don't quote me on that. This could mean something, It could not. Remember readers, never judge a book by its cover, or in this case the food by the parking lot. The interior was COVID clean, well-spaced and pleasantly lit. I really enjoyed the plants throughout, real or not, they gave a nice warm feel to the joint. I was shown a table, handed a menu and got to work. I requested an order of their Beef, Pork and Chicken Combo with sides of BBQ beans, mac and cheese and garlic bread. With an empty establishment, I was expecting my order to be done promptly and I was not disappointed as I soon saw Janelle unhurriedly escorting my meal to the table. Looking at the pictures, I can only assure my readers that from the food encapsulated therein there arose such a fragrant, down-home, Southern barbecue aroma that I nearly began to drool before Janelle had stepped back and asked if there was anything else with which she could help. Reaching blindly for my utensils, I absently brushed her off and commenced dining. The Beef, pork and chicken were all well cooked to barbecue perfection and while the sauce was nice and tangy, I measure all BBQ by Cryderman's (the gold standard) and this was not on that level. Even with flavorful garlic bread, competently prepared beans and properly cooked mac & cheese, this was just a tad short of the bar set by Cryderman's. This food was miles above Woody's and other nearby places, but not the top of the line. There is nothing wrong with that. Stopped in Saturday evening to get some dinner. Waitress came and got our drink order and came back with our drinks fairly quickly. We ordered our food and got the salad bar as well. Salad bar was Ok but not much of a selection of toppings for salads. Got our food and wasn't impressed with the food at all. When you order a sandwich, shouldn't there be enough meat to cover the bread? Only had enough to cover half the bun. Server seem to stop by more frequently when we had no food yet for refills. The food appeared to for the generic palate as i was bland (seasoning) and seemed lack seasoning/smoked flavor compared some other local places. the pulled pork was moist and really lacked flavor. The sauce helped give some taste. The 1/4 chicken was completely lacking smoked or bbq flavor, the skin was dried out and did not even have a chicken flavor. My husband and I were doordashing and we got an order for this restaurant. My husband went in and he was automatically treated like complete shit. The way they talked to him and treated him is unacceptable. They said it wasn't ready so After waiting for about 15 minutes he asked again if the order was ready , again they treated him like shit and said no. So he left. I said ima go in there and see how they treat me. Well totally different. They were nice and polite and guess what the order was done and bagged they had it there the whole time. Wow I was apprehensive to try this place since the reviews were mixed but my husband and I went for lunch because the place seemed busy which is usually a good sign. The wait staff Nikki (who is actually the manager) came right away and greeted us like we were family. She took our orders promptly and the food came out quickly. The portions were big for lunch specials (looked more like dinner) and everything was home made. Amazing BBQ, BBQ beans, and potato salad! This place is family owned and operated and the welcoming country atmosphere and food selection was great! They even have a separate take out window if you need a quick dinner one evening! We can't wait to come back! OH their cornbread is sweet - the meals come with garlic bread but if you ask you can get the sweet cornbread! Highly recommend this place. Bar-B-Q is truly an American epic. Forget those silly manners you've heard all your life.....'Don't lick your fingers', 'Wipe your mouth', 'Don't smack'.. When we humans partake in the fine art of Bar-B-Q, it should rightly be called Bar-B-Chew! After all, it is all about the greasy good, drip drip dripping and drooling lip smacking enjoyment of smoke-ringed meat bathed in a sultry sauce! Dustin's has been a Melbourne BBQ go to for some time now. My bodacious fab fiancée and I hit it on a Sunday, right along with other after church folks. It was busy but not crowded. I liked that. Service was efficient and timely, no issues. Fab one and I both ordered the 'serving of meat' only along with the Endless Salad Bar. I chose the Beef Brisket, she chose the 1/4 BarBQ Chicken. The portions of the meat were a little on the small side. But, if you allot for the Endless Salad Bar you will most likely get more than enough to eat. We were satisfied. I do have one issue. Food Safety regulations require self-serve salad bars to have those glass or plexiglas covers hanging over the food area. These are known as 'sneeze guards'. The way Dustin's has the buffet laid out with three tiers, it is typically very difficult to reach the buffet items on the top, or back tier. As we were dining, I witnessed several people attempting to reach items on that top tier. Ultimately, their solution was to bend down and lean in UNDER the sneeze guard! Effectively defeating any health risk benefits of said sneeze guards. I managed to snap a picture of one such lean encounter. Honestly, I have visited other restaurants where the sneeze guards made it quite difficult to access the buffet, so this is not a unique situation. But, I have never personally witnessed so many diners leaning under the guards to get to a buffet. Rationally, if the health department mandates these precautions, then the design should be manageable and user-friendly. Not so in this case, I'm afraid. Soooooo, other than the sneeze guard issue, I give Dustin's two thumbs up. Hopefully, they can work out a redesign of the buffet in the very near future. read more

The only time I go here is for lunch and I get the salad bar every time. I love salad bars because there are always different things to choose from. Now here is where the problem comes in. The spinach has been looking brown or even soggy. These are not being taken care of well if the lettuce is looking bad like that. The regular lettuce is doing the same. Mostly like a slim look. They don't clean up the counter much and there is stuff everywhere. The floor is disgusting most of the time as well. It is either sticky or slippery, nothing normal. The tables are also very sticky, even after they "clean" them with one of their dirty ass rags. I always have to wipe it off again after they leave the table. Clean up your lettuce and spinach and your counters and maybe I will change my opinion. read more

I went to Dustins BBQ in Melbourne on Wickham Rd for lunch last Thursday. Special was hot dog and baked beans, i was expecting beany weenie for $ 6.99. It literally was a hot dog separate from the beans. The portions were so small it was very over priced. I had to peal the dryed, almost chared skin of the hot dog. The skin was like a sweet potatoe that had been cooked for hours too long. Side of Mac n Cheese 2 oz cup, was ok, 2 oz cup of slaw was watery and bland. The small portion of baked beans was ok. The garlic toast was the only thing that was prepared correctly. Cup of filtered water was fine. Waitress was just very basic, did not go out of the way at all. I ordered the daily special of ribs and chicken wings, my father ordered the sliced pork and salad bar, and my brother ordered the turkey sandwich. My portions were huge. I wasn't a big fan of the ribs, but the dry rub cajun chicken wings were outstanding. I will 100 percent be returning for the chicken wings. My father really liked the salad bar and the pork. The babybacks were fall off the bone tender as described, with good smoked flavor. They didn't need additional sauce. The St Louis Style were also tasty, especially with the Hot BBQ sauce. The sweet potato was large, unlike some BBQ joint's I've been. The beans were also good, seemed to be made there since it didn't have that "out of the can" flavor. We Miamians aren't used to places closing at 9:00, so I should also mention the food was spit-free even though we arrived 30 mins before closing.
