This is the best meal we have had in a long time. We have lived here for years and never heard of Hemingways Tavern, until friends asked us to join them. There were 4 of us and we all enjoyed our experience from first walking in we were greeted immediately and taken to our table. We requested to sit on the patio. As we walked through the restaurant, there is a bakery/ espresso area and small gift area. We ordered the Hibiscus margaritas and they were spot on. From there we ordered the smoked wings and conch fritters both were delicious. Although, we are from Tampa home of the original"Cuban" sandwich we all decided to give theirs a try, and we were not disappointed. There are walls filled with pictures and memories of Hemingway throughout the restaurant. A little slice of Key West right here in Melbourne Hemingway's Tavern absolutely knocked it out of the park. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere pulls you in. The place feels like a blend of an old Key West bar and a cozy island tavern, with warm wood, nautical touches, and Hemingway memorabilia everywhere you look. It has that relaxed island vibe where you immediately want to sit back, slow down, and enjoy the experience. The food was outstanding. We started with a couple small bites and everything came out hot and perfectly prepared. The croquetas were fantastic, crispy on the outside with a creamy, savory ham filling. The empanadas were golden and flaky with a rich filling and a great dipping sauce. For the main course I went with the Cuban sandwich, and it was excellent. Perfectly pressed bread with just the right crunch, stacked with pork, ham, Swiss, pickles, and mustard. Exactly what you hope for when ordering a Cuban. Then came dessert, which completely stole the show. The sweet plantain bread pudding was incredible. Warm, rich, and topped with whipped cream and caramel drizzle. It's one of those desserts where you keep saying "just one more bite" until it's gone. I paired it with a café con leche, which was smooth, bold, and the perfect complement to the sweetness. The service was just as impressive. Friendly, attentive, and relaxed without hovering. Drinks stayed filled, food came out quickly, and the whole meal felt easy and enjoyable. What a great place to eat and have a good time. We were seated quickly inside at a very small two person booth inside. The outside seating had a waitlist, so we opted for the inside. The bar was crowded and very lively. Kaitlyn, our waitress, was not very personable, but she continually checked to see if we needed anything. The food was tasty and was the right portion size. We stopped in on a Sunday evening. The place was hopping. We sat on the patio. There is ample covered outdoor seating. The wait staff were super friendly and helpful. Melbourne~Headed home from Ft. Lauderdale and wanted to stop into a well known spot off of I 95. This place popped up and fit the bill! Right off the bat this looked like the absolute best place to hang out. The inside was cozy and they even have their own souvenirs! That told me we were in the right place. Their menu is really extensive and had something for every taste. I definitely need to go back and try more items on their menu. It happened to be Lobster Fest so I ordered a Cuban sandwich with lobster. There was so much lobster!!! My lunch mate had a Key West bowl. Both entrees were huge and delicious! Came for lunch with the girls on a Sunday. Espresso martini was really good. Apps were delicious! Loved the plantain chips and guac and yucca bites! Lobster bisque was delicious ! I wasn't too happy with my lobster roll. It was supposed to be cilantro butter lobster and it had no flavor. The toasted bread tasted better than the lobster. The portion was plentiful. My friends enjoyed their veggie melts and keywest bowl but my other friend said the mahi mahi was tasteless. She got jerk seasoning on the side and that fixed that. If you're local to the area, then you definitely know Hemmingway's Tavern. It is always very busy here so be prepared to wait a little bit outside when you walk up to try to get a table. They do have a small café window where you're able to order some food and some alcoholic drinks while you wait, which is always very nice as well as some coffee. Everything on the menu so far has been delicious that I've tried over the years. Located right next to Premier Theatres you can always grab a quick bite before your movie. Staff is friendly, but keep in mind this place is not a quiet place to be inside. So don't come here thinking you're going to have a quiet romantic evening. Went here on a group dinner with some work colleagues on a weeknight. We started with appetizers: Yuca Cheese Bites, Conch Fritters, and Yard Bird on A Stick. The cheese bites were like very expensive cheese sticks - not really worth the money. The Yard Bird was okay, a bit tough but the sauce/seasoning was great. The real star were the Conch Fritters - everyone loved them, and we ordered a few more so everyone could have their fill. I ordered Papa's Cuban, which was on special. It was good, but not great. I hadn't had a decent Cuban in years (can't get a good one in Detroit), and this didn't quite satisfy the itch. The pork was dry, the mustard and Swiss didn't quite rescue it, and the bread was crunchy in an unpleasant kind of way. My colleague who ordered the rib platter got some of the driest, toughest, nastiest looking ribs I've ever seen. The service was nice - lots of attentive staff around to help us out. Most of us had the standard Cuban, which seems to be what this place is famous for. They were outstanding! The bread had that crisp crunch while being nice and soft on the inside. I wanted to go get my birthday ice cream cone from Ben and Jerry's and we saw this place next door and had never been so we tried it out. I had the Cuban sandwich with yuca fries and coleslaw. Can I say yum!? Best Cuban I've had since The Columbian closed in St. Petersburg, Florida. I enjoyed every bite except the one my wife ate cause you know, she ate it. She had the pulled Mojo pork and wow that was amazing. Plantains were delicious and made perfect. Received a free dessert that was huge which was the bread pudding. We took that to go and had it later that evening. I'm not a big fan of that dessert, but this was delicious. Service was outstanding. Eric was attentive and a gentleman. I was more than half way done the app & my son was asking about his mac n cheese. We ordered everything at the same time & asked for the app to come out first. Once we finally got our food, there was no yucca. She informed me they would be out shortly. I asked about them once I had a couple spoonfuls of beans & a corner of my fish left. If I could give it more than five stars, I would. Absolutely amazing from start to finish. We sat at the bar. Our bartender was Chris. He told us all the most amazing foods to eat. We had smoked wings that were delicious and tender with perfect seasoning, the barbecued ribs, which are a huge portion with delicious macaroni salad, and the pork tacos with red beans and rice. While on the way to Miami, stopped in Melbourne and searched for the best local place to eat. Hemingway's Tavern topped the list- and well deserved! Hemingway's provided a very pleasant dining experience: the restaurant has a fun theme, a treat for Ernest Hemingway fans but also isn't too obnoxious with it that one who wasn't would feel isolated. The staff is friendly, and despite the very busy dinner crowd we were seated hastily. The food is to die for. I had the Havana Burger, cooked to perfection with a delicious jalapeño aioli for a bit of spice (but not too much). I wish for the price it came with a side but the burger is very filling. Even better was the plantain bread pudding! I'm not normally a plantain guy but the addition of cinnamon, caramel glaze and the vanilla ice cream base was the perfect balance. Hubby and I were traveling down to Miami from Jacksonville for a cruise and it's always a struggle in the mid point of our travels on this route, as I don't like chain restaurants and there are not lots of options. I called to verify the distance off 95 and they had to put me on hold to find out the answer. Strange. I can see the map on my GPS but wanted specifics from people who make that drive. Once we were seated, It took at least 8-10 minutes for a server to stop by and say she would be with us shortly meanwhile three hostess were just hanging out and chatting. Why could the hostess not get some drinks for the table? Also multiple managers were coming and going. I don't eat farm raised seafood so I asked her about the mahi when we ordered our drinks and appetizer. She did not know the answer. I suggested she ask the chef. She came back with the drinks but had forgotten to ask about the mahi. When she returned, she verified it was wild caught. We ordered the yuca cheese bites to start. They were undercooked and while they had a good sauce, we didn't even eat half of them. Hubby ordered the Cuban sandwich and fries. He thought the Cuban was bland and one of his least favorite Cubans ever. He loves fries and could not eat these as they were so overdone. I ordered the blackened mahi sandwich and as soon as they served it, different person than our server, I thought it smelled fishy. I cut it in half and tried to eat it but it was so mushy and fishy. I started feeling ill and had to go to the restroom and get rid of what I had eaten. We never saw our sever again after she stopped by shortly after our food was served so there was no way to share how bad it was. My husband finally walked outside to wait for me while we waited to get our check. When she did come back, I told her the fish was not good, but paid the tab in full and left a 20% tip. The reason for my one star rating is they were very cautious about our request for no onions and the sangria was good. I am not sure if it was an off day but we don't plan to go back. The concept seems good but the execution is off. We don't mind spending $75 for lunch if it's good but this was not. read more

So nice, I went twice in one week lol being from Miami, I had my doubts about trying the Cuban food from Hemingway's but OMG! The food was authentic and sooo delicious!!! As a Cuban-American, it definitely has my seal approval. The tostones de cerdo asado were insane! Don't let the maple syrup throw you off like it did to me. The flavor combinations pair perfectly!!! I also had the cubano de langosta...what an amazing twist on the classic Cuban Sandwich. Was not expecting the generous amount of lobster that was in the sandwich... they do not skimp! I also had the creme brûlée doughnut. It's not on the menu but they do have it if you ask. It was mind blowing! I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did and it tasted even better the next day (couldn't finish it all in one sitting)! Our servers during both visits were so nice and very attentive.
