After reading several Yelp Reviews we went to Hemingway's Tavern. It did not disappoint. First, it was packed on a Tuesday night! We had to be seated outside, which might not seem that bad in Florida but it was 50 degrees out...No worries, they had multiple heaters set up and running. Our waitress was at our table for drink orders within 2 minutes of sitting down. Once she brought drinks she took our appetizer and dinner order-super quick and efficient. We enjoyed the GF Black Bean Hummus with Plantain Chips-AMAZING! Then had the Black Bean Soup with Shrimp and my husband had a Steak Sandwich (the pineapple slaw was really good and he was impressed with the amount of steak on the sandwich). Everything was delicious and we will definitely be back when we find ourselves in the Melbourne area again. First, our server Sydney was friendly, attentive and very welcoming. We could not have asked for better service, so good job management! We chose the Cuban sandwich with truffle fries and it was delicious! For dessert we chose, the dough puffs that are famous in New Orleans, were a disappointment. Greasy. Day trip to Melbourne and we were starving, we decided to come to Hemingway's Tavern. The decor of this place is spectacular, my husband is from the Cuban town where Hemingway lived and he was very amazed at all the attention to the details. The food was spectacular, I ordered a carafe of the Mimosa which is $18 . I had the chicken and waffles sliders and my husband had the pulled pork eggs Benedict. WOW everything tasted perfection. The waffles had a walnut crunch to them and the chicken was perfectly cooked. My husband's pulled pork was amazing it literally would melt in your mouth. Good food at a decent price. The items on the dinner menu are about $9-$20 and the portions are okay - not too big, not too small. I ordered the Cuban sandwich combo with the daily soup, which was an oyster chowder at the time. I went during happy hour and I also ordered Papa's lemonade, which was $2 off. I decided to grab dinner here because it apparently is the best restaurant in Melbourne, according to Google. I honestly felt that, while my experience was decent, I'm not sure if it is deserving of that title. The decorations are definitely unique. The restaurant is "tavern themed" and the walls are full of random trinkets, including a giant elephant head near the kitchen. The bar area seemed to be full of regulars who knew each other and the staff. The sandwich I ate was tasty but not a stand out in flavor. I've definitely had better in other places in Florida. My friend ordered a burger and that too was not special in any way. The oyster soup ended up being too spicy for me. However, I thought the overall broth was good and the one or two seafood chunks that came in it was okay as well. I think my overall food experience was just average. Not great but not horrible. The service was not especially friendly either - the staff seemed a bit standoffish and just seemed like they were waiting for us to leave our table. Our food took some time to get to us, maybe about 20-25min. I thought it could have been faster considering there was only about one or two other tables in the restaurant at the time. I might have to try this place again and order a few other things. Perhaps I simply came on an off day. read more

Hovering between a 3 and a 4 on this one. We were a group of 10 and the staff were unable to sit us all together so the guys ending being in one part of the restaurant and the ladies in another part. I ordered the Cuban sandwich which was good but nothing I would be clammering to order again. Empanada appetizer was good. Overall we drove about 20 minutes from the ocean front to try this place, everyone enjoyed their food, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back again. read more

I should have asked for some grated parmesan cheese to kick up the taste and take away from the watery sauce. I wasn't offered grated cheese, normally that does go with pasta. My partner and I had a surprise trip out of town and he suggested this place after hearing from friends how good it was. I was a bit hesitant because it's wasn't really the type of food I was wanting. But when we walked up I was super impressed with the florals and the atmosphere. They have a huge patio area for seating outside and the ambiance is exactly what we need on our date night. The service was wonderful and the young lady was so patient with us. Everything on the menu sounded so good I didn't even know what to order! I ended up getting the key west bowl with red snapper and it was delicious! Though after trying my partners pork I wish I would have stuck with the pork. Nonetheless his sandwich and my bowl were delicious and I even asked him if we had a Hemingway's Tavern close to us. We sipped on a few drinks while we visited, all were great but of course the key lime pie martini stood out to me. Just the right amount of tart and sweet. HORRIBLE. We evidently ordered the wrong menu items. My RIBS were overcooked probably 3 days prior to them being served to me. You would like the meat to fall off the bone. LOL - you needed a knife to cut the OVERDONE - CHARRED - HORRIBLE - Although they did smash on fresh BBQ sauce. My wife's fish was overcooked to the point it curled at both ends. Why didn't we complain? Th waiter was horrible, couldn't even find him. It was very busy. Overall, don't believe the hype. Although if you drink a lot, maybe the experience will be better. When our trip to Orlando was derailed, we headed to Melbourne to visit World Market, but that plan was derailed by our hunger. I found Hemingway's Tavern on Yelp. The name, cool. The food photos, appetizing. We were in for about a 45 minute wait, which we spent sippin' a Sambuca at the neighboring Italian restaurant/import store. The host & wait staff at Hemingway's was genuinely nice. Our server was congenial and so helpful with food suggestions. I thought that maybe the place's popularity was riding on a signature name or the fancy hibiscus margarita. To my delight, the food was delicious! The Cuban was actually one of the best I've ever had (last one was in Miami). My salad was fresh and crisp with the right amount of everything. Prices were extremely fair. Now, I don't normally order dessert, but that brownie...with ice cream...geeeeez. So damn good. Perfect way to make up for a derailed day trip. read more

Sweet, charming young lady with a smile and all the warmth of southern hospitality rolled up in a 5'2" frame.
