I first visited Hello Em when they opened a few years ago, and unfortunately, my experience with the service felt very similar this time around. The coconut water matcha was absolutely delicious. It was refreshing, flavorful, and easily the highlight of my visit. The café itself is also very cute and culturally immersive, with a thoughtful Vietnamese identity that I genuinely appreciate as someone who is Vietnamese. That said, the baristas gave off a noticeably unfriendly and slightly dismissive vibe. I understand that some cafés lean into the aloof, hipster-barista atmosphere, but this felt unnecessary. It is still a coffee shop, and a little warmth would make the experience much more welcoming. I am still giving Hello Em four out of five stars because the drink was fantastic and the space is beautiful. However, I had the same impression during my first visit years ago, so I hope the service improves before it becomes part of the café's reputation.
Stop scrolling through the list of Vietnamese coffee and just come here! LOL! What a gem this place is! Friendly service, great coffee and pastries. Cool decor and merch inside too! Order up: Ca phe sua da (hubby's) Ca phe Maggi (mine...so good!) Pandan croissant (must try!) Glad we found this place while exploring Chinatown. CHEERS and happy eating till next time...
What a beautiful and cool place to be. There is some street parking around the area and a decent amount of seating inside. It's bright, cozy, and cool inside. There is a community space that you can borrow and book out! There's a little store front in the back that you can get some cool and unique things. We got the Ca Phe Sua Da and Ca Phe Chuoi, with a Banh Mi Pa Te. The drinks were made well, tasted delicious, and nostalgic. The banh mi was super flavorful and I crave it often. Everything was great! Staff was busy but nice and they were helpful with questions. A good experience for traditional Viet coffee and snacks but also some modern takes with traditional flavors. I would recommend for small groups, a casual date, or just some nostalgic and traditional flavors. I will be coming back!
Tried the crème brûlée coffee, traditional cà phê sữa đá, and the bone marrow sandwich and everything delivered. The crème brûlée coffee was rich and creamy with that perfectly torched top that adds a subtle caramelized bite. The traditional cà phê sữa đá was bold, smooth, and exactly what you want from Vietnamese coffee, strong but balanced with sweetness. And the bone marrow sandwich? Savory, flavorful, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The shop itself is super clean and the aesthetics are really cute, warm, modern, and very Instagram-worthy. Only downside: no dedicated parking, so you'll need to find street parking. Service was fast. Overall, definitely worth the stop.
Viet egg coffee! It's basically a dessert so expect a lot of sweetness. I tried the brulee egg coffee and thought it tasted good. Service is fast and there's some seating but not a lot.
Pandan Croissant - Made with coco pandan condensed milk, butter, and fleur de sel. Unfortunately, the added butter overwhelmed the croissant and took away from the pandan flavor. It ended up tasting very savory, with very little pandan coming through, and it was also quite messy to eat. Cà Phê Chuối - One of their most popular drinks, likely because it's on the sweeter side and very creative. It features caramelized banana, coconut, pandan egg whip, salted peanuts, and banana chips. The combination is unique and enjoyable, especially if you like dessert-style coffee drinks. Cà Phê Brûlée - A torched egg coffee that I highly recommend ordering hot. Be sure to grab a spoon, you'll need it to crack the caramelized egg layer and mix it in. Drinking it straight through a straw means you'll miss the brulee flavor entirely. Plenty of street parking!
I didn't like it. The coffee was so bitter and the coco doesn't mix with the drink so it just floated on top. The bahn mi was mid. Thin slice of meat, no jalapeños. But its just as expensive as other bahm mi sellers. On the upside, it's a very cute space but not a good study spot. There's no tables, just coffee tables.
My friends really wanted to try Vietnamese coffee in the area, so we decided to visit Hello Em Viet Coffee. They had a really intriguing menu, and the inside was also nicely decorated, displaying some rustic aspects you might see if you were actually in Vietnam. DRINKS: Unfortunately, I wasn't very impressed by their drinks. The flavors fell a bit flat to me, and they were pretty pricey considering the small volume you receive. The cups were adorable and aesthetic, but they made mixing your drinks difficult. Cà Phê Chuối (3/5) - A really pretty-looking drink. My eyes enjoyed it more than my taste buds. The strong coffee flavor was there, but it only tasted bitter and lacked depth. The hints of banana I did taste were pleasant, though. Trà Chôm Chôm (3.5/5) - Rambutan and passion fruit oolong tea drink. It was more sour than I was expecting, but I didn't mind it. SERVICE: My friend wanted her drink adjusted, and they were very receptive about it. Drinks also came out quickly. TLDR// I found this place and its drinks super visually charming. Unfortunately, I wasn't very impressed by the taste of the drinks. Many people seemed to enjoy the food here, so maybe if I ever stop by again, I'll order some food.
I came back to Hello Em and decided to try the Cà Phê Chuối and Cà Phê Brûlée this time. Both drinks were okay. But they didn't quite capture that deep, robust flavor you usually get from traditional cà phê. The Cà Phê Chuối had a nice hint of banana, but I wish the coffee came through a bit stronger. The Cà Phê Brûlée was fun and creamy, though a bit on the lighter side for my taste. The service was friendly and attentive, which I always appreciate. The interior is spacious and airy, with plenty of room to sit and chat or get some work done. Even though the drinks weren't my favorite this round, I still like the overall vibe and will probably be back to try something different next time.
I like this cafe! They have good egg coffee and sandwiches where are all made to order. Service was fast and I particularly enjoyed the graphics on the cup. I came on a Sunday afternoon before closing and was surprised to find this place packed! All the seats inside were taken with us ultimately siting outside on the stairs right outside the cafe. I wonder what the business level is on a weekday which might be a better time to visit if seating is very important to you.

Essentially the coffee tasted like American coffee but with some sweetness. The torched egg foam was nice to drink. The cà phê chuối had too much cream/foam for me. But gave a bit more of the traditional Viet coffee taste. The service was good. Our questions were answered and it didn't take too long for the drinks to be made. The ambiance is nice. Nicely decorated and organized with good lighting.
Super cute restaurant with a lot of decorations and a really cute seating area. There were a good amount of seats too. I didn't love my drink but would still give this place 4 stars bc the workers were very happy to make adjustments after I tried it. I also liked my friend's ca phe chuoi a lot and would have been happy to drink that one as it was Ca phe la dua: 2/5. The coffee flavor was super strong, which is kind of expected with Vietnamese coffee. But I was expecting a lot more pandan and condensed milk flavor based on the description. It was good after I added pandan foam, but I wouldn't have been able to finish this as it was originally made
Love the coffee. We will have to try their food next time but had stopped in before going to brunch with friends. I had their coffee at a desert shop in West Seattle (Happy Pandy) which I also recommend. The coffee was so good that I had to get some for home and of course had them make us a delicious coffee while we were there. The Egg custard they put on my latte was interesting and certainly worth it. A fun little shop that has great coffee. The roaster himself was the one to help us and it was very nice chatting with him about the coffee and what they have to offer. While not the most convenient location, lots of street parking and well worth it!

As a new resident of Washington state, I've explored a number of different spots around the area, and Hello Em stands out as one of my absolute favorites! Unlike the majority of coffee shops I've tried in Seattle, Hello Em has ample parking right on the same street, which was a HUGE relief when I was running hungry and borderline hypoglycemic. When I walked in earlier this morning, I was warmly greeted by a staff member who, after I mentioned it was my first visit, thoughtfully walked me through their top-selling items. Bonus: while waiting for my food and beverage, I explored and was mesmerized by the beautifully curated aesthetic and Vietnamese decor, which was thoughtfully designed and made my wait enjoyable. I ordered an iced Cà Phê Brûlée (torched egg coffee), which turned out to be such a creamy, decadent treat once I stirred the torched top into the strong roast beneath it. For food, I was torn between the Sữa đặc (condensed milk) Pandan Croissant and the Ăn Sáng (breakfast) croissant so I decided to just order both. The Pandan Croissant was sweet and buttery, while the Breakfast Croissant was a protein-rich, savory blend of honey ham, Chả lụa (Vietnamese ham), omelet, and a light spread of mayo. I left full, caffeinated, and BEYOND impressed. If you're after high quality Vietnamese coffee and pastries paired with warm, attentive service, Hello Em is well worth the trip!!!! read more

The egg coffee here was nice. I ordered the brûlée egg coffee, which was rich, creamy and such a fun take on traditional version. The space itself is really spacious and nice, with plenty of seating and a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. It's definitely more of a place I'd come to hang out, catch up with a friend or enjoy a coffee for a while rather than somewhere I'd choose specifically to get work done. The seating is comfortable enough, but the setup isn't quite as conducive to spending a full work day here. The service was a bit slow with only one person who ordered before me, they only have 1-2 people working so be a bit patient. That said, I really liked the overall experience. A great little spot if you're looking for Viet coffee and somewhere to sit and relax. read more

The sandwiches were pretty good, but the coffee was even better! My boyfriend and shared 5 drinks between the two of us. I really enjoyed the cafe Maggie the Maggie Carmel was delicious and paired so well with this drink! The drinks and food were prepared in a timely manner. The service was nice, the cashier was so patient with us as we were figuring out what to order. This space is so cute, with history on the walls and it was combined with a work space/studio. read more

Such a cute gem! Hello 'em has all the things that make a coffee shop delightful- bright open space, enough seating, delicious foods, and enticing drinks. It even has a kids corner and books. On my most recent trip, I got the croissant sandwich. It had eggs, mayo, pate, and then grilled on a panini press. It was so satisfying on flavor and portion size. I didn't get a coffee this time, although it probably would have helped to have a nice hot dark coffee to cut through the food. I'll have to go back! read more
I got the Torched Egg Coffee and honestly, it looked great but didn't taste good at all. There was way too much foam for my liking, and the coffee itself had a weird, unpleasant flavor. The café space was cute with plenty of low seating and small tables. The only desk-height table was along the wall, but it was pretty dirty. To top it off, a bug fell into my drink after just a few sips -- definitely not the experience I was hoping for. read more

I finally got to come out here and tried one of the egg cream coffees. Coffee was strong and bitter (not a bad thing) and the egg cream was very rich and sweet, which paired together well. When I went there was an event going on in the space, so it was crazy chaos and crowded. It was hard to chill and enjoy my drink. I also didn't know they serve food so next time I'll come for both instead of eating elsewhere and coming here after for drinks. I'm looking forward to coming back! read more

Really good matcha! Cute place to sit but not the best to work - the tables are more set up to sit and chat than use a laptop/take notes. Drinks in general are unique, coconut water matcha was amazing! read more
It's such a cute and small coffee shop right outside of China town. I love that there were coffee and food options. The service was friendly and patient as they answered all our questions. We ordered 2 sandwiches, and a few coffees to try. Their banana milk is pretty good. Plain with no coffee. read more
I've been here twice before during the height of the pandemic around 2021 when this place first opened, and came back 4 years later just to have their coffee. This is on a Monday morning close to 10am, and even till now it's still close to an area where street parking is challenging and the surrounding area somewhat sketchy even when it's bright outside. Inside is relatively casual, with the wall displaying facts of Vietnam and tables and books strewn about. Even on a Monday morning there's plenty of people and people came in nonstop despite the place being empty when I walked in. Back then, I used to get their Ca Phe Trung (egg coffee) and Xuc Xich (hot dog banh mi) as a pair, but for this visit I only got the former. It has a very strong and bitter taste at the bottom while still being perfectly sweet with the egg creme on top especially after stirring everything together. It also has more of a salted cheese foam kind of taste, which is already something I love. All of this was just $8 flat on my end, which is pretty standard for coffees I've gotten before. There's a ton of things I'm trying at the off chance I come back here! I am open to some recommendations on what to get next time though... read more
Love that there's a history "stories of little Saigon" past, present and future wall. The decor is great. Menu items are weird af tho, but my parents are Viet-Americans who came in 1979-82 so we might not be used to the new popular drinks in viet nam. The food has no real authentic banh mi but I recommend the breakfast croissant cuz it's similar to what Viet ppl will make for breakfast sometimes. The workers spelled our names all wrong (even my Vietnamese name!) but they're nice. Would recommend as a local experience. read more
We came here for a little craft fair they had set up for Thanksgiving weekend. However, we had to get a pate sandwich and I also grabbed a viet mocha. The sandwich was delicious!!! The vibes were great, and there seemed like there was plenty of room to hang out with friends. I even saw a conference room towards the back that looked useful for other community events. The staff were nice and the food came out quickly! read more

Love the vibe here--super cute decor and the history timeline on the wall about Little Saigon is actually really cool. Came here as a backup after the coffee shop I had my heart set on was closed for the holidays (thanks for nothing, holiday hours). But hey, total win! They serve some fancy coffee I've never even heard of, so I had to ask what had the least amount of caffeine (pregnancy perks). Ended up going with the brulee one, which was surprisingly delicious. The egg whip on top was THICK. Honestly, it kinda reminded me of salted cheese with boba, but in a good way! It paired really nicely with the hot coffee and was the perfect way to warm up after trudging through the rain. A solid pivot for a rainy day coffee fix! read more

From the street, I would have never noticed this cafe tucked away near some grocery stores I used to frequent, if I didn't have this bookmarked. Some friends recommended it after their last visit to Seattle, and I was craving some of the delightful drinks I had during my last trip to Saigon. The interior is decorated with lanterns, a moped, and other relics reminiscent of Vietnam. There's great communal seating, and you can tell they care deeply about their community as they have a wall telling the history of the neighborhood and also have a table with lots of flyers to educate the locals of important happenings. There were 3 croissants to choose from and I ordered the pandan one, which ended up being a regular croissant that they slice open and put some spread on. It was good but reallllly rich (tasted like a lot of butter in the spread) and it was quite sweet. I had a hard time picking between all the drinks, but I remember loving the coconut coffees and egg coffees in Saigon. I picked the coconut one and it ended up being quite different than the ones I was used to - a bit more runny and less creamy. It also had a lot of dried coconut chunks on top that wasn't crisp and made it hard to drink. I'd recommend ordering it without the coco chips or having it on the side! If I came back, there was a pandan, banana, and maggi(!) drink I would want to try too. read more

Located in downtown in the building with the big mural with the Vietnamese girl wearing the conical hat. Street parking only. Usually I get coconut coffee or egg coffee but I'll gravitate towards something different that I normally don't see at other cafes. I don't see banana coffee often and decided to order that hot. You have to be a banana lover to like this. It's one of the better banana coffee that I've had because it wasn't that strong in syrup and had more coffee ratio. It was topped with a banana chip and peanuts. Food: Bánh mì nem nướng ($9.50) - creamy pressed bánh mì like a panini. The nem was thick like spam, the sauce was a lemongrass mayo. 10/10 Pate croissant w egg ($8). - had a creamy sweet flavor. It was a big croissant that was pressed with egg and pate. 6/10 Out of all the Viet coffee shops I've been to in multiple states, this by far has the best and unique food menu. There's a vendor in the back with a cart that sells Vietnamese flash cards and artsy pieces. read more
A cute hidden gem indeed! We popped in head of ECCC and very much enjoyed our coffees, rice crispy, and banh mi! We were a bit sad that the mochi clouds weren't available yet but the coffee was good enough that we'd pop in again next time we're int he area. The shop itself is super cute, with chairs setup as though you're enjoying a beverage at a street side cafe-being pregnant I did wish the tables were a BIT higher so I didnt have to lean forward so much. The bathrooms were spotless (probably because there's door codes, haha) and there is a cute little community library right there, which from the looks, has some really good books to read while your at the cafe or checkout. Service was quick and friendly, no judgemental looks when you struggle with pronouncing the drink names (it's okay to point and the menu here!) Parking is on the street, just be weary of the interesting characters. If you're lucky you'll find a spot infront of the aprtment/community center building and there will be a few uncles outside having a smoke break for a looooong time! read more
Hello Em was a memorable experience - fun, local place paired with delicious, strong coffee offerings. Street parking and high traffic may deter people because there wasn't available seating when my party went around mid morning. Staff was amiable and the environment had a creative aesthetic. It was evident that the coffee shop is a community hub as local programs are often hosted in a meeting space and local resources for community support were advertised. Bookshelves showed books offered to community members/patrons to read. It was neat to learn about the history of the area through visual aids on display as well as the history of coffee production. I've been here a few times and love the space. At first I wasn't a fan of their drinks until I realized you had to mix it up (user error haha) It is a bit hard since the cup is so full, but I won't complain about getting more for my money. They have a fun menu with classics on there and the food is yummy as well. The space is pretty and I like that they tell a story not just about Hello Em, but the community. It's a nice place to read a book or chat with friends. The tables do fill up quickly sometimes. Overall good flavors with decent prices and friendly staff. Would recommend to stop by! read more
I had a hot Cà phê brûlée which was $6.50 for 8oz and it was not a good experience. I understand that you're supposed to stir it but found that near impossible since the cup was overfull. The egg cream was extremely sweet, the coffee was extremely bitter, and I felt like I was slowly eating the plastic off the degradable straw which was melting throughout. Maybe I didn't like it because I didn't stir it enough or coffee is not to my taste. This being said, my entire experience here left a sour taste in my mouth. First of all, the service was poor. They did not seem to care about their work or the customers and did not make any effort to try and make me feel welcome. Secondly, there were too many people inside and while I appreciate communal seating, I found the chairs too close for comfort and the tables far too limited. It was an uncomfortable dining experience. Lastly, none of the reviews I've seen have mentioned that this cafe is on one of the least safe and walkable streets of the city. This is not within their control, but added to my desire to leave. There is also an unspoken credit card surcharge. I ordered the ca phe brûlée. It was okay. At first I tried a sip and it was all super strong coffee. You definitely have to mix it very well. The texture is a bit thick, but maybe that's just the nature from the egg portion. Unfortunately even before stirring the coffee, it was spilling. The inside was so cute. I went when they were having little pop up shops which I looked at while waiting for my coffee. The decor makes the place feel cozy and inviting. The service was speedy and efficient. I've been to Hello Em a couple times for drinks and for food! I am also just a huge fan of the space as a community gathering area with a library and everything. I am not personally a huge fan of their drinks - they aren't sweet enough for me, but I apprecitae that you can get tons of Viet coffee varients here. I really liked their food - I tried the Pa Te Banh Mi and the Breakfast Croissant. Both of them have pate, my fav part of the meal! Warning - the pa te banh mi gets pretty messy. I felt like the banh mi was a little bland, but the breakfast croissant was perfect (especially because it was so crispy). I would totally come back for both of those and to try more items! read more

I got the coconut cream latte and it had a strong coconut taste and was very creamy and frothy! Maybe a little too thick to my liking but that's my fault for ordering it. Overall it's a very cute place that I recommend for some good Vietnamese coffee!! read more

What is the difference between the egg cloud and the egg crème?
Egg cream is the traditional version, very thick, and very creamy. Egg cloud is much lighter, almost like a thick foam. Plus the egg yolk vs egg white difference that is already mentioned.

lol no way they either use condensed milk or coconut milk
