This is like hidden gem, I was in the area and look for Yelppies to help me out, and this restaurant popped up on Yelp, I thought I will give this a tried. Is not hard to find if you just follow your GPS, but if you just want to look for it, is kinda hidden, is behind the famous Waffle House. lol I went around 7pm on the weekdays, only maybe 3 cars parked outside. I'm not really sure they super slow on the weekdays or taken it easy day for them. What I mean by that you may ask? Well, when I walked in, I felt like they just open or they about to close, because after you at the counter, only the left side of the restaurant have lights on, on the right side the light is off, that's what I mean felt like they just open but not yet have all their lights turn off, or about to close, but I honestly think weekday is slow days for them, maybe? Anyway, the server which I only saw one, she really nice. There 2 different menus, one is the regular lunch and dinner Chinese restaurant menu, another smaller one is the dim sum, , not the full dim sum menu, maybe have 10-12 items I ordered the Beef Chow Fun, also on the dim sum menu is the Shrimp Rice Noodle. The Shrimp Rice Noodle is not one of the best, actually I think the dim sum here is not very good, I felt that they just giving the customer another options. The Beef Chow Fun is very good, so far I tried is one of the best in Columbus. I'm giving it 4 stars, will definitely Give it a try if you can just ignore half restaurant being close. lol read more

Great place for soup dumplings! Stoped in Columbus about a month while on a road trip and figured I'd grab soup dumplings from the top rated place in the city according to the Internet. I was not disappointed! The lady was very nice and packed the soup dumplings frozen in ice for the 2 hour drive back to Cleveland for me per my request. Great service and understanding there. They were extremely easy to cook, 3 min in the instant pot and low heat and they tasted so good! Everything here could be improved. Imo. First the restaurant is freezing like they didn't bother to adjust the heat to the outside weather. It was noticeably cold... instantly. The over all ambiance is not really that great. Why? Torn awning outside. The mop/bucket is out in front of the bar. A broom/standing dust pan is in front of the hostess stand. Hostess stand un manned, despite the broom combo. There are large boxes and boxes piled up along the entire back wall, stacked haphazardly in the formal dining room, giving off a super messy vibe as its in clear view. The place smells clean so thats a pro. Yelps health score rating showed a 100% from the last dept of health rating so I didn't cancel the order but I was still unsettled. You wonder what I ordered: I ordered was a shrimp/chive bun and a soup. Was expecting it 5.75 total as that is what the menu says. Found it to be over 8 dollars. Thats a big difference. When I brought that to their attention they said oh the prices are wrong on the menu. Pretty sure thats illegal to do that with pricing. That irritated me, but I just smiled and vowed never ever to return. Then when I looked at the food when I got home... the chive bun was a few tiny potstickers. Not what I was expecting. I was expecting a bun dumpling or bao shaped item. As I said I didnt eat any of it. Im seriously tossing the food. I got a bad vibe I cant get over the messy box situation. I love this place! My boyfriend and I go every couple weeks. We get the soup dumplings and crab Rangoons! Though our absolute favorite is the Spicy pork dumplings! A must try! The place is always quiet and the service is good. I love their lemon (sweet) tea, my go to there! read more

I can't speak about the service or ambiance since I only ordered food twice from Uber eats. I am not sure if Americanized Chinese cuisine is not there thing, but all of the dishes have just been okay to not the best. I tried their soup dumplings, egg drop soup, sesame chicken, honey chicken, eggplant and garlic sauce dish, and pork fried rice. The two times I ordered food I ended up having a stomach ache. I don't think it's because the food is bad, but rather because it's super fresh. The best two things I ate were the soup dumplings and egg drop soup. The egg drop soup is standard and tastes how you would expect. The soup dumplings were tasty but unfortunately not soupy. They may just not transport well. The chicken is not good. The cuts of meat they use are tough and the texture is a bit unappealing. I also felt like the honey chicken was wayy too sweet. The sesame chicken had a good flavor but was soggy and had an off extremely chewy texture The eggplant has great flavor but is really greasy. If it had less grease it would be an awesome dish. Lastly the pork fried rice was okay, the pork was well prepared but there was very few pieces. It was mainly just fried rice with some veggies, and a couple bites of meat. I just feel like for the price it was not worth it. Also though the pork was tasty the rice itself was pretty bland. Overall based on these two orders I don't plan to eat here again and believe there are better places in the area. read more

This is a wonderful restaurant with all sorts of great authentic Chinese food (dumplings are their specialty, my favorite is a spicy Szechuan cauliflower dish), but, alas, a sign in the door says "closed until further notice." When searching Columbus for soup dumplings, Helen's came up. We've been wanting to try this place for years, literally years. It was a very cold winter day, and I decided I NEEDED soup dumplings... so today was the day for Helen's. We, per usual, ordered a lot to be able to get a feel and a taste for everything. I obviously order dumplings.. in addition to mala string beans, white and fried rice, steamed pork buns, and a few main dishes..... the soup dumplings had 0 soup in them -- the taste was fine, just missing the most important ingredient... the beans needed more spice, and the main dishes weren't memorable (as I don't remember what we ordered). While the meal was filling, it was a little of a let down. While I am not saying I wouldn't give it another try, I don't think it will be anytime soon. read more

The house pad Thai was dry so I poured some of the chilli both on it and it booted it up a notched . The chicken Lo mein was moist and had good flavor. The egg roll didn't have any flavor but it was crispy. I had alot better. The fish chilli was the highlight. I would order it again it was that good. It out shined everything we ordered. Good, but not amazing and nothing particularly stood out. The Sichuan Pork, including the pepper (which was also very aromatic), was the most flavorful, and the Chow Fun had a pretty large serving size with a good amount of beef and veggies. The Ma Po Tofu was on the sweeter side with a "glaze-like" sauce while I expected a more traditional Sichuan flavor profile. Nonetheless, I would not mind coming back. Since moving back to Ohio and settling in Columbus, I've been experimenting with a lot of different Chinese restaurants. I was spoiled in Chicago and haven't been able to find anything that even comes close to the little spot I lived above for 3 years in Wicker Park. That being said, Helen's Asian Kitchen is as close as it gets, and I give their grub and service a solid four stars. I've tried a variety of their dishes (all vegetarian options), and the Ma La Green Beans and Stir-Fried Cauliflower are my favorites. The portions are enormous and it's clear that the vegetables are fresh. If two-day old leftovers still taste amazing, you know its quality stuff. As for the restaurant itself, it is extremely hard to find if you don't know what you're looking for. You can't actually access it from Dublin Granville Road, which is bummer. However, once you walk through their doors the hassle of getting there disappears. The restaurant is clean and recently renovated. The vibe doesn't necessarily scream Chinese restaurant but it's warm and welcoming. They have a giant bar as well as a party room area. The owners are the sweetest people ever and they've gone above and beyond to keep this place going. They are truly passionate about providing their food to the Columbus community and I'm so glad they offer delivery. They are quite a ways away from me and I don't make it to the dining room often. We went there because an old pictures of the food were very appealing. The experience in reality... just horrible grease sloppy cooking. Was nothing enjoyable! Helen -- what a sweet woman. And let me tell you, her Asian Kitchen??.. also fire. As someone stated previously the location is a little "ehhhh" but once you get past that it's smooth sailing. Helen greeted us at the door and promptly found us a table. She was kind, helpful, and attentive. We were one of 3 tables but we could tell they were busy with online /pickup orders. There were a few times our service lagged but nothing worth getting upset about. When you check in for the first time there is an offer for 6 free crab rangoons. I (obviously) snatched that up. They were pretty good. Nothing to rave over but good. Our entree was another story. My partner and I ordered and split a dinner portion of the orange chicken. I really enjoyed it. We could have used more rice but other than that it was perfect. Lastly we ordered the xiao long bao, I had previously had it at a yelp event. I love the filling in them -- excellent seasoning. Just not crazy about the dumpling itself .. i found it very tricky to get a hold of. All the flavors were good though! Overall excellent service, food, and experience. Wowza!!! I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I ordered takeout a week or so ago. I landed on the Twice cooked pork, soup dumplings and hour and sour soup. The twice cooked pork was amazing. I loved the flavor and the veggies brought the right amount of crunch and freshness. The soup was a generous portion for the price. The dumplings we good as well but similar to others I've had before. This place has a slightly more interesting menu than typical Chinese takeout spots so I'd be definitely interested in trying more. read more

I tried Helen's Kitchen tonight since I was not in the mood to make a whole meal after of Christmas plans got canceled. I ordered the sesame chicken and hot and sour soup. My husband got 2 of the potstickers. The potstickers are around $6 for 6 potstickers in a box. Pretty good price. The sesame chicken was $12 on a dinner menu. Service was good and staff was friendly. However, it was completely empty on Saturday around brunch, which was the first red flag. Second: The dumplings were TINY, and the shrimp were the little 1.5cm baby shrimp that is normally found in salads. All of the dim sum menu (siu mai, ha cheung, xiaolongbao, sesame balls) tasted like reheated Trader Ming's. Highly disappointing. Another customer was seated directly across from our table, and was having a loud conversation with his speakerphone turned at maximum volume the entire time we were there, and the waiter didn't do anything about it. Giving 2 stars because the sesame balls were decent, the staff was friendly, and the food didn't give us food poisoning but overall will recommend against this place. I heard about this restaurant awhile back but never try this out. The restaurant is a bit hard to find and you will have to drive all the way back of the plaza to find it. When I walk in, I don't really think I was in a Chinese restaurant. The set up and design make me think of a tree house or a lodge. But it does add some uniqueness to the restaurant.  The twice cooked pork have the rich and in depth flavor and it's a must to pair with a bowl of rice. Xiao Long Bao is decent as well and be aware of the piping hot broth reside within. Even though the location is a bit tricky, I may come back for another visit. read more

Omg. Hidden gem. Love the food here so much! But, not gonna lie, the location is a bit sketchy/outside my comfort zone so I usually order delivery! I'm not vegetarian, but always get the mapo tofu and cauliflower here. They are SO good. Portions are huge and we always have plenty for leftovers. Before you get totally thrown off by the location - look past it (and that old stripper boot sitting under the tree by the opening) and you'll have the opportunity to dine at a fantastic rstaurant with delicious dishes. Yes, the location is less to be desired, and yes this restaurant is in an old strip club, and yes part of me felt like I was eating in an old strip club but trust me, don't let that keep you away! The service and dishes we enjoyed were wonderful. We arrived about 5p on Mothers Day (this was my choice) and I arrived with a laundry list of dishes I wanted to taste. Actually there was so much I wanted to try that I must make a return visit although it will be hard not to pick my first time favorites. I also mentioned to my husband that I wished for a dim sum option here, that way I got the chance to try as much as possible. We ordered everything at the same time and ate as it came out, which personally I prefer. I don't HAVE to have appetizers before dinner and in this case, we didn't. There is no kids menu but thankfully Paxton will pretty much eat everything we do and I knew that no matter what, he would survive on some fried rice. It would have been great to have some smaller items for him to order so we could get spicier foods that are harder for him to eat. We did get one spicy dish which was a standout and that was the stir fried cauliflower. This dish has the perfect amount of heat and crunch and flavor. Plus it comes out in a small wok over flames so the flavors continue to really cook into the cauliflower. Another standout was the Xio Long Bao - I was a little nervous that these and the dumplings we ordered would be too much alike but that couldn't be further from the truth. Went there on Friday night, it's pretty slow. Our server was super nice and friendly, he helped us with everything. But we didn't like the food. I'll be really honest, it's not our taste at all; Pad thai was too sour and watery, Sticky rice in lotus it looked so cool when we got it but it was too fishy Pork bun was okay but too dry and because it was so dry I don't think it was steamed. I think they probably re-heat in microwave. My husband liked the spicy dumplings--he liked the spicy sauce a lot. The food was not impressed us but the service was good, we really liked our server. This might have been the best Chinese food I've ever had. I came here to try their new dim sum menu and I was blown away with all of the different options! First off, their dumplings are amazing. Helen makes them by hand and they are incredible. They have ranges from pork to shrimp, to spicy chicken dumplings, soup dumplings and more. Everything was delicious. They also have different types of buns that were amazing. The pork bun and yolk bun were things that I wouldn't normally order but I was really impressed by. Finally - for entrees. Their spicy cauliflower is SO good. This dish was an absolute winner and this will keep me coming back. Other notable items - green beans and spicy beef. First off ignore the mid-older reviews. Helen ran the place with her husband for years and the food was fantastic. She sold the place when her husband got cancer. The new restaurant was terrible and they kept the same name. Unfortunately Mr. Helen died but fortunately for all of us Helen bought the restaurant back and it's fantastic again. Here's the deal: if you want blah American Chinese food this is not the place. THIS IS the place for authentic Szechuan Chinese food. The Szechuan Cauliflower is amazing.
