    Looks better than it tasted.

Ordered signature meatball sub. There are very few times I don't like what I order to the point that I don't eat it, anyway. Unfortunately this was one of the times. I can't' pinpoint what it was. But after half the sandwich I was done. I did not care for the marinara. And found the meatballs terrible. Tater tots were good "homemade" ranch dressing nothing special. Will not be a place I pick to eat at again.

My wife and I stopped by Hef's to try it out. It's a small place, not very clean. The waitress did wipe our table after we sat down but there were a lot of crumbs between the table and the wall. They had one waitress working, I don't know if they are normally short staffed (like most places nowadays). I will give it to her, she was trying her best and she was very nice. I started with the Jalapeño Poppers. They were good. My wife had the fried mushrooms. She liked them. I had a burger all the way, it was okay, nothing special. My wife had a mushroom burger, she said the same about it. Prices are not bad. I might try again if I'm in the area for a different reason and hungry.

We so enjoyed Hef's. We were greeted with smiles and the server was very helpful with any questions we had. I had the small pizza and I was happy I couldn't eat it all..I got to enjoy it again. It was pretty busy by the time we left....then we discovered it was the only restaurant in the area that was open on Sunday. We can't wait to go again!

I have to admit I was a bit concerned when I read a scathing review about the food and staff.(not trying to minimize their experience) Then showing up with a group from Miami, FL, 19 souls ranging from 4 to 43, I was a bit worried. However, the food here was phenomenal!!!! Our group ordered; Chili cheese fries = Korean BBQ wings = Fried calamari = Chicken hoagie Garlic Parmesan = Chicken hoagie Medium = Steak Hoagie = Fried Oreos w/ ice cream = nuff said! There were no complaints from anyone in our group except for the kids.(Never happy with what they ordered) I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant if you are ever in the area! To the Hef's staff and Chef thank you for your hospitality and the great food! Cheers!

You must check this place out when you're in Spruce Pine! It's a little sports pub/bar type of place with an excellent selection of food. I ordered the cheese sticks and a small cheese pizza. (Cheese cheese cheese) Let me tell you-the marinara that came with the cheese sticks is actually the most delicious marinara I've ever tasted in my entire life! It's HOMEMADE and I truly wanted to take it all with me. The pizza-I'm not even really a pizza person but I'm telling you this pizza was delicious. It was just the right amount of everything including size if you really just want a single serving. Our server was really nice and everything was pretty perfect in this place. I 100% recommend it!

Saturday afternoon just out and about in NC, ran up on this little sleepy charming town. Hef's is run my a father and son, seems like good guys. The place was full and college football was on all TV's. The crowd was super friendly. The staff are all great. I went with hot teriyaki wings and fried mushrooms, both absolutely excellent. A few local beers on tap makes for a great experience.

Great size Margarita! Friendly atmosphere and great food! Definitely should go and try it out!

Great local sports bar feel. Staff was friendly and inviting. Had large portions for a very fair price.

Plenty of seating inside and out, with a really nice outdoor covered patio. Ordered some wings, an enormous fish n chips plate, and a few cold ones to wash it all down with. The wings were a bit underwhelming. I ordered them first and they came out 30 seconds later. They were most likely sitting there in the kitchen instead of made to order especially on a wing night. It showed since they were a bit chewy and not hot and fresh. Everything else was amazing. The fish n chips knocked it out of the park! I wasn't planning on ordering it, but after the 3rd plate of it went by I couldn't resist. 2 huge fresh, hot and crispy fish on top of their homemade chips. The fish was outstanding. Perfectly fried with that outer crisp and inner tenderness. I will have a hard time ordering anything else here. If you haven't had it here, get it for sure. With a fresh and made to order wings dish, this place is a 5 star review with no hesitation!

But I wiggled my vehicle into a tight spot and went in for a burger and a beer. I believe there were about 10 to 12 options available on tap, and I went with what was listed as an Irish stout from somewhere in the Northeast. It wasn't bad, though it seemed more like an imperial stout. My sandwich choice was the Cowboy, with ground elk at its core. It was a good choice too, and the accompanying fried onions and melted cheese complemented the meat well. I ordered the burger medium, but I think I'd go for medium rare if I could go back in time. The medium option wasn't bad, but I think a little less heat and a little more moisture would only make things better. I kept things simple with the side item, going for the fries which were of the thinly sliced McDonald's variety, not bad but nothing remarkable. The server covering my table was pleasant and prompt, though soft spoken so I occasionally had to ask her to repeat herself amidst the music and noise. I wouldn't call any of these selections a bargain, but the prices didn't veer too far from what you'll find in many burger joints. All in all, not an earthshaking experience, but a place I'd be willing to go back to. 3.5 stars.

We found parking on a side street near Blowing Rock Brewing, so decided to enjoy a drink and get some lunch. We were seated quickly, near a heater, which was nice to help us warm up after being on the mountain. A waiter came by with menus to take our order. We asked for some suggestions, but he was a little less than enthused to offer advise. They had a good variety of beers, so my wife and I each got one, and shared them. We got the Pina Colada Kolsch and the Cloud Rise Hazy Ipa. Both were tasty, the Pina Colada Kolsch had a much stronger pineapple flavor than I expected, but in a good way. For food we started with the white cheddar poblano, which I expected to be more of a liquid queso for some reason. It was instead for of a soft, spread, which was really good, and paired well with the chips. And then we split the Turkey Reuben, which I figured would be made with deli meat, instead, it was warm, cooked chunks of turkey, really great flavor, and hit the spot for us. The sides with the sandwiches were a bit lacking, only offering hot chips, and green beans....I've never gotten the whole hot chip craze, but green beans just seamed like too odd of a side option for a sandwich It was a good visit, and a good meal, to get us back on our feet. Overall, a nice space, with bar seating, a back room, a back and front patio, plenty of space to hang out, relax and enjoy their beer. Food and drink were both good and worth a visit if you're in the area.
