I only tried the Jja-jjang myun here because that's the only reason I ever would go to a Korean-based Chinese restaurant. It is really common, like you can go into any Korean Chinese place and it will taste either better or the same. Not to brag but my moms could make better jjajang than this... I had to work a weekend shift and yeah, I understand weekends are pretty busy BUT the area is too small. People bumping elbows in the aisles and.. bad parents. Probably just super bad timing but parents who leave their kids to just cry, instead of picking them or or even trying to help them stop, should seriously NOT be in public. Kids can be tough, if you're not ready for it - don't have kids. Neglecting them is NOT an answer. Simply put.. I was having such a bad craving and this is the only one near me that takes 10 minutes vs 20 minutes (gas is expensive here wtfff). If you can take other options, then please do so. Seattle doesn't have great Koreanized-Chinese food either but it is leagues better than here for some reason. Since this place, and one place in Coquitlam (near Lougheed), I've been purposely driving to Man Li jang Sung in Surrey. I don't care if I waste gas since this is a guilty pleasure meal (extremely unhealthy for you). If it is a guilty pleasure, cheat-meal - I need it to be F*CKING DANK. I'm a person who ate Korean Chinese food for as young as 4, so I've got some taste variations from different places. In Vancouver, I've been trying to find a place where it's as good as the shops in Korea, but this place is okay. It's not good per say, and I could see why some people like it here. It has a very basic old school feeling to it. But compared to Bbong, even other places, the food is a bit weak. It's not bad nor good, it's alright. It just doesn't match up with my personal taste, and the only dish I particularly enjoyed is the tangsuyuk. It's the main out of anything I've ordered there. Hee Rae Dung Korean Chinese Coquitlam 喜來燈 is a small homey Korean restaurant located in the same plaza as RBC and Extra Foods. This restaurant is quite popular amongst the Korean community and it was my Korean friend's mom whom highly recommended it to us. Hee Rae Dung features a lot of casual home cooked dishes which you will find a lot of similarities to Northern China Cuisine and Korea. Prices here are expensive with entrees $15+ - however given the portion size it is forgiven. Service is friendly and prompt but it also helped that my friend speaks Korean. Hee Rae Dung has a lot of family combo dinners with a variety of noodles, stir fry, soups, etc. This is not a Korean BBQ restaurant, do don't expect grills at your table. We ordered Combo A $26.90 : Tang Su Yuk, Jjam Bong, Ja Jang Myun and added Yang Jang Pi platter. Since portions are fairly large. Don't go crazy and over order. Yang Jang Pi 24.40: Seafood, beef, vegetables, clear glass noodles with spicy mustard sauce. This platter has a lot of variety and the presentation is quite pretty. You need to mix everything together like you would a salad. I think this looked much prettier than it tasted. It was sort of bland. More onions, noodles and shrimp would better justify 24.40. Ja Jang Myun: noodles with black bean sauce, onion, and pork. This is similar to Zhajiangmian 醡醬麵 in Northern China but not in South China. This Ja Jang Myun has a lot of sauce and personally I would have preferred something drier. The flavors were mild with a touch of sweetness. Thankfully they noodles were chewy and not soggy despite the sauce. Jiam Bong: Spicy noodle soup with vegetables, shrimp, squid and scallops. Don't be fooled by the light hue of the soup. This soup has a lot of heat that doesn't burn you on contact but rather emits slowly and lingers afterwards. Tang Su Yuk 14.40: Sweet and sour fried pork is lightly crispy on the outside. Mildly battered and not drenched with sauce as you would typically seen in a Chinese-Canadian restaurant. The meat inside were not too dry either. Hee Rae Dung Korean Chinese on North Road is a nice casual alternative to Korean BBQ. It tastes much better than Good Friends. read more

We had the sweet and sour pork combo that came with so much meat, noodles, and soup that we couldn't finish everything. Everything was delicious as well. Hard to find quality authentic Korean Food in BC after living in Toronto for 5 years. I would consider this place excellent, wholesome home made style Korean chinese food. Specializing in Jjambong (spicy seafood noodle soup), Jajang myun (black bean noodle) and sweet and sour pork/chicken... Have not tried the other dishes because that's not what they are popular for. When a Korean place specializes in very few dishes and you are the only non-Korean person there, that place is legit! Look around and see what everyone is there for, if in doubt. There are no free korean side dishes because this is not that type of restaurant. Banchan is served when there is mainly rice, bulgoki, galbi or soup dishes, like at Korean bbq. Combo B is perfect for my bf and I since i love jjampong and he loves jajang myun and it also comes with a sweet and spicy fried chicken dish, all for ~$30 (good price for the quality). Expect to bring home leftover chicken since the combo is massive. Oh yah, and please do not be misinformed. This is NOT NEW FUSION of Korean and Chinese. This type of Korean Chinese cooking has been going on for a loooong time and can be found in very rural areas of korea. I recently went to Jeju island and found a tiiiny hole in the wall that served exactly this style only. Taiwanese owned and in business for decades. This is authentic Korean Chinese food. Awesome Korean Chinese fusion! Was introduced to Hee Rae Deung by a Korean friend. It's authentic, convenient, and delicious. We ordered only a couple of dishes because the portions are ridiculous! We got the Ja Jang Myun, which is a noodle with black bean sauce. According to my buddy, this is one of the best places to get Ja Jang Myun. The KAN POONG KI was missing some chicken in some of the pieces. It was just batter with air inside. The zhajiangmyun was good but only had 4 pieces of pork in it. The oyster jjambong was good but the seafood appeared to be frozen. This place is mama-hoo-hoo. read more

I tried their seafood fried rice, and their spicy seafood soup and black bean noodle combo. Both the fried rice and noodle dish were quite greasy. In general the taste was decent but there was not much seafood in the dishes, and the black bean noodle only had a few small pieces of pork. The dish is mainly full of noodles and sauce. The worst thing was how disorganized the service is. When you come in, you have to leave your name and they will call you when it's your turn. They gave us (party of two) a 20 min wait time. 20 min went by and we started to notice that people who had arrived after us were now getting called to a table. When approached about this, they claimed they had called our name. However, we had been paying attention the whole time to the names being called as we were quite hungry, and we did not hear our name. They likely forgot us or they called too quietly and did not bother checking that everyone in the waiting area had heard. They said we would be next, so we went back to the seating area. To our frustration, we saw again that another party of two that had arrived after us were called instead. We went up to the server again and they did not seem apologetic, and they just called to the other server it is now our turn. In total we had waited 45 min to eat. This experience, coupled with the mediocre food, makes this a place we will not visit again. read more

My first place I would go for since it is near my school but it isn't my best Korean food place. I usually get Black Bean Sauce Noodle here and it is ok but too much onion. It's always a good sign to see lots of Korean people eating at a Korean Chinese restaurant. I would recommend getting the family meal, plenty of food to share for 4 adults and probably the most value for your money. This was my first time having Korean food and I ordered what a friend ordered which was the Black Bean Soup. Amazing food. We sat down, were served tea and order taken almost straight away. A few minutes later they gave us a huge bowl of food which smelt amazing. This dish specifically really doesn't look very nice, being so dark and almost bland, but it tasted amazing. For less than $7 I had enough food for a big meal and a small amount of leftovers. The staff were very friendly and I will be going back here next time I am passing. I sit down and wait for 30mintues in a crowd of people before I walk up and they tell me it was ready the whole time. The food was stale and the staff unaccommodating. Very poor experience read more
