October 17/2025: Lupper with my Al. An entirely UNDERwhelming experience for Hearts! This was also a strange experience. Our hostess/seater seemed hostile to us when we moved tables without asking. We were seated against a window & on an old property in October, so naturally is was drafty, so we moved & I guess she didn't like that. It was mid-afternoon so there was lots of seating available. What's interesting is our adjacent table of three arrived after us but received service & food before us from same said server. You'll see by the menu that it was a limited offering. I had a Kick Rocks beer ($9.99) and a smashed burger ($27.00). I found that both items were less than impressive. The smash burger was good but not great as it should have been for $27.00! What I found lacking in the service was the table had zero condiments (no salt/pepper/ketchup) so we had to ask for ketchup & pepper, which took too long to arrive at the table. If your patron is having fries with their meal, you should assume they'll want ketchup! The ambiance lacked lighting & it just wasn't for me. The restaurant game outside of Toronto has gotten quite interesting! I remember not too long ago that if you left Toronto for a day of skiing or road trip, restaurant options were limited to chip trucks, franchises, local diners or that one expensive, stuffy restaurant for special occasions. Heart's was a wonderful surprise in the quaint town of Kimberly. We were there on a Thursday evening with a pretty big group and the space was bustling! Even though we didn't have a reservation (rookie mistake) the staff found space for us and seated us pretty quickly. The service and menu was perfection! The menu was elevated, fresh with some interesting options, and something for everyone. The staff were attentive to allergies and restrictions and made an effort to understand and recommend options. I ordered the steak tartare and it was beautifully balanced, came with quite a bit of bread, and overall quite filling! My friends got the smash burger, and the concensus was... "It's incredible!!!". They have a nice selection of local beers and cocktails to pair also. Highly recommend dropping by if you are in the area... Heck I'd even recommend taking a detour... it's worth it! read more

Heart's - Tartare - Gastropubs Near Me - Kimberley, Ontario

A platter of freshly shucked oysters ($40 for 12) arrives with the typical vinegar-based garnishes, they're a nice fresh bite against the other heavier starters we ordered. Such as the chicken liver parfait ($22) that's topped with a creamy congealed jelly for an extra shot of flavour. The smooth parfait is slightly sweet and when smeared onto the hot crusty bread creates a sweet and savoury concoction. There's plenty of pickled zucchini included to cut through the parfait's richness, but the dish could include more bread to help get through the generous portion. Luckily, it seemed like everything we ordered included slices of the lovely toasted fresh bread. The steak tartare ($25) was a hefty mound of well-seasoned beef mixed with a savoury relish that had a slightly spicy finish. While I would have liked the beef a little less pulverized, the tartare had such lovely flavours, so much so that the large salty anchovy garnishes were unnecessary and detracted from the meat. Forgive me while I swoon like a dreamy schoolgirl over the heirloom tomato ($24) salad. I hated raw tomatoes growing up, but after tasting a fresh Ontario heirloom tomato, I was hooked. At their prime they are vibrant and sweet in a cozy warming way. They're especially delicious paired with a creamy burrata, at Hearts simply seasoned with olive oil and salt. If I still used a notebook, maybe I should draw images of heirlooms on the cover. The tomato and burrata is a much better option than the salad niçoise ($27). While the niçoise's dressing was tasty, the canned tuna covered everything casting a fishy tinge over the other ingredients. Personally, I would have like to have a bite of protein separate from the crispy sweet green beans, creamy and soft potatoes, and lovely soft-boiled egg. If someone likes all the flavours combine, they can mix it on their own. Hearts' shared plates menu sometimes makes it difficult to determine where the starters end and the mains begin, creating a continuous meal that Hearts orders in a nice procession. The moules and frites ($34) were plentiful, in terms of the mollusk and shallots, sitting in a light white wine broth that's perfect for dipping bread into. A much better option than the sizzling crinkle cut fries, which are so nice and crispy that they're best enjoyed solo. This is a long review, head to Gastroworld for the rest. read more

Heart's was recommended as a hidden jewel by the resort we were staying at. As we were traveling between viewing local waterfalls, we stopped in. It was pretty busy and although we didn't have a reservation we were able to be seated but were asked to be done within an hour and 15 minutes as they needed the table for a reservation at that time. This wasn't a problem as we were there just to split a quick lunch. We opted for the Smash Burger and fries and were delighted with both. The interior of the restaurant was kind of quirky which made it that much more charming. I would definitely return as well as recommend this restaurant. read more

Came to Kimberley for a mini honeymoon trip. Booked a reservation ahead of time because this place looked promising upon reading reviews. Upon arriving the restaurant, the waiter greeted us and seated right away. Started off with a chilled potato and leek soup and pork pie. The soup was refreshing, served with a warm toasted buttered bread. The pork pie was a bit unexpected since we thought it would be nice and hot pie. ( better ask the waiter next time when trying out new dishes) Nevertheless, we still gave it a shot but the flavour and texture was not for us. Moving on with the main dishes! My husband got ribs and I got steak! They both came with a different types of salad ( same mustard seeds dressing) and frites. The steak was completely drenched in peppercorn sauce. ( which we couldn't even taste the peppercorn) it was mainly fat and not much protein on the steak. The ribs were overly saucy and barely had any meat on the bones. We had a very high expectation for this restaurant but left with hungry bellies and more emptier wallet than we expected. read more

Absolutely stellar! Take a picture of the menu board before you're seated as there is no printed one to be had. We indulged in the rillette y terrain (pork with duck) and a silky fresh French cow cheese with wildflower honey to start. We shared their house salad (beet, Comte, smoky lardon) and grilled trout with brown butter baby lady turnips. Flavors were strikingly playful and fresh - preparation masterful. Vegetables were well integrated into the dishes and tasted locally fresh. Wine list is extensive - no spirits. Host indicated they will soon be extending their charming farmhouse setting to include a larger bar and outdoor patio. read more

The food is excellent but definitely bring your biggest appetite as most of the dishes are quite large and rich. If you are looking for a light bite, stick to the appetizers. The service is knowledgeable and pleasant. The ski vibe is strong which makes sense given the location. It's definitely an après ski feeling which is welcoming. Overall a great experience and super popular with locals (which is what I am) and tourists alike. read more

Everything was delicious. Really liked the oysters, grilled trout and steak frites. Great place for wines and cocktails too.
