We came down from Owen Sound for a dinner. This is the first time eating here since it came under new management. We had the pork loin and it was a gorgeous thick cut and yet surprisingly tender sliceof meat! The gravy/sauce was very tasty! It was a large helping and I noticed the other patrons were struggling with the quantity of food on their plate as well! Everyone looked very pleased with their choices. The chef came out and talked with us. I understand he's a saucier who evidently has quite an eclectic range of culinary experience to draw from! Wonderful combinations of flavours, colours and textures! Great job!

Had Dinner here for the second time..had the Lobster Bisque to start and it was absolutely delicious. Followed by the Steak Frites. Came with a gravy sauce it was well seasoned and delicious. They have nice selection of Cheesecakes for dessert amd would normally have Creme Brulle which I love but they had completely sold out of it. Nice ambiance great food

While I think it probably was more creative, the execution of the meal suffered under the weight of staff inexperience. First off, the entryway to the restaurant was dingy and unswept. Not a pleasant first impression. We arrived early for our reservation, and had every intention of waiting at the bar. After fumbling around trying to cobble a table together for us, the flustered hostess finally agreed to our suggestion that we wait at the bar. While there, nobody offered us a drink, bar menu, or appetizer. We were ignored. We were then offered to be put at a table in the bar area, but then another table cleared up and we were seated by the window instead. Jeremy, our server, was pleasant and told us of the soup and wine specials, plus pointed out the $7 supplement on the sirloin entree. Water was poured into all our glasses, and our server left us for a few minutes to decide. We were given two lunch menus and two dinner menus, so he had to go and get the correct ones for two of us. While looking at the menu, we noticed dirty (poorly washed) plates, and had to replace some of them when he returned. Upon returning, he took our orders: Appetizers: two sweet potato soups, one salad, and one pork belly and gnocchi. Entrees: three pork w/ goat cheese citrus polenta and spiced apple chutney (with one red wine) and one chicken ravioli Dessert: one pavlova, two coconut cream pies, and one chocolate torte. We were served focaccia bread with balsamic vinegar, Parmesan, and olive oil. The bread was warmed, but seemed stale and tasteless. We asked for fresh bread, which he brought back un-warmed, but it was still hard (stale) and tasteless, despite (apparently) being cooked that morning. Just a very bad bread recipe. Appetizers: All were tasty enough, though the soup was a little watery. Half of the pork belly (with the gnocchi) was firm, the other half juicy. I don't know how they managed to cook it to two different degrees of doneness, but they did. The salad was OK. Entrees: The ravioli were undercooked and hard. Besides that, they were just OK. The pork was super-dry and over-cooked, and I felt bad for the pig that it had been so maltreated. The goat cheese citrus polenta and spiced apple chutney, while a valiant attempt, failed. The flavour combination was mismatched and unpleasant. Unfortunately, the only way to get the pork some moisture was to eat it with the chutney. Dessert: The Pavlova got good reviews. The torte was very dense and rich. The pie was actually pretty good. It was a warm evening, and yet we were only offered water once. I drained my glass within a few minutes, and although our waiter came to our table several times, he failed to notice it near the edge of the table and refill it. It's nice to see Barrie with a restaurant that tries something creative, but I've definitely experienced much better. Meals like this one remind me of some of the spectacular meals for the same price that I've enjoyed in Toronto, San Francisco, and New York - not because it's up to the same standard, but because it makes me wish that this had been one of those meals instead.

October 17/2025: Lupper with my Al…read more An entirely UNDERwhelming experience for Hearts! This was also a strange experience. Our hostess/seater seemed hostile to us when we moved tables without asking. We were seated against a window & on an old property in October, so naturally is was drafty, so we moved & I guess she didn't like that. It was mid-afternoon so there was lots of seating available. What's interesting is our adjacent table of three arrived after us but received service & food before us from same said server. You'll see by the menu that it was a limited offering. I had a Kick Rocks beer ($9.99) and a smashed burger ($27.00). I found that both items were less than impressive. The smash burger was good but not great as it should have been for $27.00! What I found lacking in the service was the table had zero condiments (no salt/pepper/ketchup) so we had to ask for ketchup & pepper, which took too long to arrive at the table. If your patron is having fries with their meal, you should assume they'll want ketchup! The ambiance lacked lighting & it just wasn't for me. Side note, the bathroom was clean & had soap with a wonderful scent. This is not a do-over for me.

The restaurant game outside of Toronto has gotten quite interesting! I remember not too long ago…read morethat if you left Toronto for a day of skiing or road trip, restaurant options were limited to chip trucks, franchises, local diners or that one expensive, stuffy restaurant for special occasions. Heart's was a wonderful surprise in the quaint town of Kimberly. We were there on a Thursday evening with a pretty big group and the space was bustling! Even though we didn't have a reservation (rookie mistake) the staff found space for us and seated us pretty quickly. The service and menu was perfection! The menu was elevated, fresh with some interesting options, and something for everyone. The staff were attentive to allergies and restrictions and made an effort to understand and recommend options. I ordered the steak tartare and it was beautifully balanced, came with quite a bit of bread, and overall quite filling! My friends got the smash burger, and the concensus was... "It's incredible!!!". They have a nice selection of local beers and cocktails to pair also. Highly recommend dropping by if you are in the area... Heck I'd even recommend taking a detour... it's worth it!
