Had to travel to Collingwood on thanksgiving !!! Once the tour was over, we were looking for a restaurant offering brunch / lunch , came across The Iron Skillet, they were open at 11 am ... the restaurant is well put together, has a cozy atmosphere and the staff were welcoming and friendly with big smiles . We were given a detailed description of the specials and we chose the Iron Skillet breakfast & Lunch Mexican Perogies. Both dishes were prepared well, flavourful and with a homemade touch. A definite visit when in Collingwood !

Tony has been a staple favourite in town for decades. His new restaurant has a tonne of amazing, unique and hand crafted dishes you can't find anywhere else. I had a hard time deciding between at least 7 items; which means I'm coming back for schnitzel and goulash as I tried the fajitas this time. His home made hot sauce is awesome. "Ragin' Cajun" It seems to be the same recipe from what I remember in the early 90s. Except not as hot. FYI: the interior appears to have been changed from the photos posted here and is a lot more cozy with a centre divider and rows of booths. FYI2: his second location on Balsam St is not open.

The restaurant here is extremely below average. I compared it to the food one would expect to get in a cafeteria somewhere. Though the portions were huge and generous - the food itself was bland and flavourless and unappetizing, to be totally frank. We had a huge party, and I got to taste and see a good variety of the menu offerings. It wasn't the absolute worst I've ever had, but it wasn't even near average. The menu is also huge. Overwhelmingly huge - they need to trim that menu down, and specialize in a smaller selection of solid items rather than deliver dozens and dozens of very mediocre items. They also have a hot sauce called Suicide - which I thought was tacky and made me and my partner cringe. It should probably be updated given our current social climate/mental health awareness. The restaurant itself was also very ugly. The lighting was harsh and the decor was dreadful. It felt like eating in someone's old, poorly decorated basement apartment. I may be biased as I live in Toronto, where the culinary scene is huge and the industry is very cut-throat, but either way, I was not impressed nor was anyone else at my table. I give it 2 stars as the "homemade cheesecake" was average, and the food wasn't necessarily inedible or gross...just not good.

We were passing by and decided to try this place out I got the food i got the fish and chips and my boyfriend got the steak on a bun. The fish and chips was nice and hot the fish was light and fluffy also didn't taste frozen The crust was a little on the oily side. The cole slaw that came on the side was not the most fresh and I barely ate it. For two steak on a bun nothing exceptional but it was not bad! Cooked to the medium rare. The French fries came with both dishes and it was great, nicely fried

Okkkkie dokie Came…read morehere for a family reunion invitation. My elders suggested the place. Mind was thinking hmmm will it be a good place? Drove up with the family to join the shin dig. The place is nestled along the coast associated with a marina. The complex the restaurant is housed in reminds me of an assisted living vibe that was repurposed as a family resort. Kinda like if you added some water slides and pools to the side of an ol folks home. We walk in, wife and kids begin chirping about how the restaurant looks ok but is giving off some retirement home, but! The patrons are mostly family. We are seated at the back of a nice room , however our back wall adorns a large lcd screen emblazoned with a digital beach scene. My back is to it, so it doesn't bother me too much. Now that ive set your expectations to "questonable"we get to the food. Wife and i not expecting much. We go with the recommendation from my parents to try the tomahawk steak- for four people, kids ordered salmon rice veges, and spaghetti dish, The tomahawk takes about 45 mins to prepare. Comes w a Cesar salad, and we also ordered a calamari appetizer. The house bread is soft warm and fresh. W a sid eof roasted red pepper butter. 5/5 Calamari has light batter w. A nice sauce chipotle mild? Very yum- 5/5 Ceasar salad on point w the right composition of dressing, and fresh greens! 5/5 Kids: My sons who are picky 1. Salmon rice broccolini dish- completely gobbled up. 5/5 2. Spaghetti w carbonara sauce. 3/5. He said it was ok. Maybe too heavy on the cheese. Tomahawk - came out cruise missile style and landed into my top steaks crater. This thing was pre cut, on a meat board , w delicious gravy in a gravy pot, side of perfect mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables? Maybe some were also grilled . The meat was perfectly done a medium- light red , tender, touch of blood. Made to order. Meat was all eaten , as were the veges and the mash 6/5! Considering my expectations were low when i was judging this place on its looks. Also tried a side of the mushrooms- well cooked w good aroma 5/5 Desert was a chocolate lava cake - light cake part and rich chocolate lava part-4/5 Needless to say. Exceeded expectations. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Fresh food for what we ordered. Hidden gem at this seafood restaurant was the tomahawk steak- MVP!. Give this place a try!!! Service was good 4/5

The restaurant is beauty, great view of the bay, an oyster bar and an inviting atmosphere. As they walked us to our table I requested a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate. Our server came by to confirm the bottle order and take our daughters' drink request. When our server came with the drinks the unfortunate happened: the tray tipped and the beverages fell resulting in shattered glass, wet clothes, a small cut on my finger and lemon in my eye. The server was mortified and we felt terrible for him. I went to clean myself up while the server and a colleague cleared everything away. 15 minutes later - at 7:50pm - our bottle arrived along with the drinks. The rest of the night went off without a hitch and the food delivered. The reason for my poor review is this: at 9:05pm we got the bill which included that bottle of prosecco, a bottle of red, multiple starters, multiple steaks with paid-premium sides. Not an inexpensive meal at all. We still had full glasses of wine to enjoy so I didn't open the bill. One minute later the owner of the establishment came over to give us a nudge to pay. I understand that you close at 9pm on Thursdays but considering the delay was in no way our fault I hardly understand the move. Furthermore, at no point during the ordeal did management/ownership come by to check on us and see if we were alright. Finally, no items were comped on the bill - not even an iced tea. I paid the bill (with 15% gratuity), chugged my wine and left without so much as a goodbye, thank you or apology. It's too bad that a restaurant with a nice atmosphere and good food within walking distance from me is never to be enjoyed by us again but this is the service industry and that starts with management/ownership.

To dine here is to abandon pretension at the door and embrace the primal pleasure of cracking, pulling, and diving headlong into a generously heaped platter of shellfish. The portions are commendable; there is no sense of restraint here, and the kitchen makes no apologies for it. The service, too, deserves particular note -- attentive, personable, and clearly well-versed in the menu, with staff offering recommendations that feel genuine rather than rehearsed. The atmosphere strikes an enjoyable balance between lively and welcoming, accommodating everyone from boisterous groups to families with young children with equal ease. Where Crab Boil has room to grow is in the depth and complexity of its seasoning. The foundations are sound, but the spice blends -- while pleasant -- do not yet achieve the kind of resonant, layered intensity that elevates a seafood boil from enjoyable to truly memorable. One leaves content, yet with a quiet sense that the kitchen's full potential remains just slightly untapped. A spirited and generous table -- one that rewards those who come hungry, sleeves rolled, and ready to revel.

Brian Perks sells great hardwood for your campfire. He also sells blocks of ice, which I prefer, as opposed to cubes. SO here is our business practice as a customer: on the way into camping, we pick up Fire and Ice (a.k.a. wood and a couple of ice blocks). Every few days, we come back again to replace said items. Brian Perks charges far less then the park does, and his wood is better, too! But the thing to truly die for is the smoked fish. When you are staying in a park called Killbear, with actual bears roaming around, you don't want to be keeping smoked fish in your cooler, car or tent. We pick ours up on the way out. You can choose between Whitefish (drier, whiter, nice for salads), Trout (oily, full-flavoured) and Pickerel (I have not tried it). Both the whitefish and the trout are outstanding! Mr. Perks told me that most of his produce goes to New York City, and much of the rest to Eastern European customers in Ontario. My Mother (Ukrainian and Romanian) adores this fish. Last year I forgot to pick some up, and she's not let me forget it! This year, I stopped by Perks Fish on my way out of the park, and was so happy to see him still in business. If you enjoy smoked fish, or just need fire and ice for camping, check out Perks Fish! A true hole-in-the-wall, hidden gem, etc., it is worth a detour if you are in Parry Sound, and worth stopping by if you are staying at Killbear.

They also had a few paintings on their walls to sell that were made by local artists which was really nice. Our server was polite and friendly. She made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered the oysters, the soup of the day, filet mignon with herb roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables and the new york striploin with chive mashed potato and garlic mushrooms. We were quite pleased with the oysters (5/5) and the soup which was Chipotle Tomato (5/5). The soup had a nice smokey flavour and a kick from the chipotle which paired well with the sweetness and tanginess of the tomato soup. Filet Mignon with Herb Roasted Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables (3.5/5). The steak was cooked to my liking (medium rare). The char to it heightened the flavour of the steak. The steak also had bacon wrapped around which I couldn't really taste. The herb roasted potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The kitchen staff unfortunately forgot to add my seasonal vegetables on the plate which we let our server know. The vegetables were underwhelming as they were overcooked. We hope for the staff to be more attentive in future orders. The New York Striploin with Chive Mashed Potato and Garlic Mushrooms (4/5) was also cooked medium rare however, we did find some parts of the steak to be slightly overcooked. The char also heightened the flavours of the steak. The chive mashed potato had a smooth texture. Butter on the side would've been a good idea. The garlic mushrooms were deliciously cooked. It was bouncy and juicy, coated in the garlic flavour we were looking for. They also gave out bread and olive oil and balsamic vinegar for starters.
