Solid option for dinner near Blue Mountain! We walked in without reservations in mid-September which is their slow season. Apparently there are line ups down the street during the summer so plan accordingly! We enjoyed our dinner dishes! The seafood bouillabaisse had a tasty broth and the burger was juicy. We had a beer and wine, and all in it was $125. I think this is a local spot as well, as the place was filling up as the evening went on. It's a cute restaurant with friendly servers. We were hoping to sit on the patio but they had very little shading so we ended up sitting inside. I ordered halibut fish and chips. The fish was average I really like the side summer slaw salad. We also shared the crab cake appetizer and I found that a bit fishy. I wouldn't order that again. The service was pretty slow but I guess it's expected in that area. It wasn't very busy during lunch. They have a cute patio so I'd love to check that out another time read more

Made it over to Thornbury again to the Mill Café for lunch with my son, we are chicken burger junkies and the lunch menu chicken burger sounded absolutely delicious! As with my previous visit, a warm welcome met us at the door with prompt seating and service with the same attention to detail when ordering our drinks and our food, the lunch specials sounded delicious but we already had our mind set on the chicken burger which was absolutely what we were hoping for And then some, washed down with a cold craft beer for me and a chocolate milk for my son and you have a pretty awesome lunch outing!! Great service, vibe and delicious food make this place a worthy spot! Pop by on a Sunday afternoon and after a short wait (great time to walk around the area since there's lots of little stores to check out) and was seated in a very Covid safe spot. Since it was between lunch and dinner, my boyfriend and I opted to have have a couple apps. We had the truffle fries - we both agreed they were sooo tasty. Numerous restaurants in the area and we chose The Mill for dinner on Wednesday, 5/8/19. There were four of us. I had the salmon,another had the California pasta, and the other two split a dinner which allowed them to also add a salad. Portion sizes were filling and presentation was excellent. Even though the two who split their dinner, chef did not skimp on presentation. Separate tickets was not an issue. Food, service, atmosphere was excellent and all reasonably priced. There is an outside sitting area which would have been lovely if the spring weather would have cooperated, but too cold this time. I would definitely go again. The only issue I would see as a problem is parking. There is a public lot but it was full on the Wednesday evening we went so we had to park off street further down which was not paved. read more

Fantastic dinner with my family! We were in the area on vacation and celebrated our daughters 16th birthday with a great evening at the Mill on Wednesday August 23rd. Service was attentive, food was amazing and with it a great presentation. Lots of Gluten Free options - I have Celiac and I really appreciated the fact that this restaurant had so many great choices and all clearly marked on their menu. excellent find after a few non starters in town wine selection by glass was just ok but the food was amazing. They're very particular about presentation, right down to the diagonally-placed sandwich spear in my fried chicken gorgonzola arugula aioli something sandwich, and I'm sure you can tell by the ingredients that this thing is awesome.. also had the lobster bisque which was really great and creamy with just the right consistency. definitely should hit this place up when I'm back in town read more

We were excited to try the mill cafe for the first time. We were seated indoors and right away the restaurant was filled with smoke from the kitchen. We asked to open the window more to get a breeze but the issue continued. Every 5 mins or so the restaurant filled with smoke to the point where our eyes were burning and we couldn't continue our meal. Our baby and children couldn't take it. We raised it to our server who was apologetic and checked with the owner and said we could get the rest of our meal as takeout. No compensation was offered. We understand this happens but to not offer any sort of compensation left a bad taste in our mouthes. To pay $180 for a meal we couldn't enjoy because of excessive smoke is not ok. We were told it's not their fault the exhaust fan doesn't work well.... Ok... but it's your restaurant so why are we shouldering the burden? Don't offer indoor dining if you don't have an exhaust fan that works. The food we had was delicious. No-one expects a restaurant to be perfect but it's how management address the issue that come up that makes it worthwhile coming back. Unfortunately, how this issue was addressed by management will mean we don't go back again. read more

We were about ten people and were seated quickly (the place was mostly empty). The building really is an old mill building, as far as I can tell, sitting right by the river on the dam. The interior is made up of old timbers and a stone fireplace, with kitschy art decor of cows, colourful fish, and wine bottles. There's an extensive wine list and dozens and dozens of cocktails ($7-$12+) I had trouble choosing and ended up going with a Buttered Rum coffee, which was very good. The dessert menu is short but fancy. Friends gave thumbs-up to the crepes and the chocolate cake. I may be adding another star if I ever go there for a meal. The grilled cheese and apple sandwich is calling to me. We were there in the evening for dessert and drinks, which seem to be the only thing available after 8 pm. Correct me if I'm wrong. I often drop in here for a convenient lunch-and the food is OK. Three friends and I came in on Saturday after having had the hostess The Damn Pub being considerate enough to tell us that the wait would be well over an hour because the kitchen was backlogged. So we walked down here and work quickly seated. The service was very friendly-even a bit overly eager. We ordered our food right away as we were on our lunch, and began to wait-it took a full hour for lunch to arrive-and they had a dedicated lunch menu! There was no warning, no explanation, and the apology consisted of, "it's so good it will be worth the wait." Again the food was OK. We were content with the lunch menu because that usually means the chef is on top of things, can serve fresh local food, and is well-stocked and prepped. That was hardly the case. I ordered a burger with the seasonal salad with peaches. The burger was good-nothing to write home about, and the salad consisted of less than three bites-and was overdressed and not not spectacular. My friend ordered the soft tacos and quite enjoyed them-although the portion size was quite small. All in all The experience left us with a pretty bad taste. It's neither tricky and is common sense, to let new customers know if the kitchen is not able to keep up. Likewise to keep patrons informed about delays in their food is just considerate service. And no my dear waitress, The quality of the food did not make up for the unexpected wait. read more

Driving through town at dinner time (just passing through) we Yelped around and this place looked great. Our experience turned out not so great. 1. Yelp has it listed as $$. The entrees are all $27-35. That would have been fine if we were looking for a nice night out, but we weren't. We just needed to feed our kids and ourselves at the end of a long day. Change the Yelp listing to $$$ or $$$$. Otherwise more people will have this bad experience. 2. We sat down, ordered food for our kids off the kids menu (which was great), and said we would need a minute to order our own meals. That was apparently a mistake. The servers here have to pour their own drinks, bus their own tables, and make their own desserts. We didn't see our server again until the kids' food was ready, about 25 minutes later. She was very apologetic, but at that point there was no point ordering for ourselves - we would be stuck there for an hour or more after the kids had finished. We paid, the kids ate, we made plans to secure some food somewhere else later in the evening. If you're going to charge $30+ for an entree, don't advertise yourself as $$ on Yelp and don't overload your wait staff to the point where people wait half an hour to order their food. read more

A very interesting space with a patio with a view of the Beaver River and Thornbury Dam. The menu is eclectic without feeling schizophrenic. I had the jerk chicken tacos and this is one of two times in a week I ordered said dish and neither time it was what I was hoping for. I wanted a bit of heat and bite but it was missing in both cases. However, I did enjoy both interpretations. Here, there was a grilled pineapple chutney that made it sweet. Was pretty excited to try this place, a unique local restaurant. Service was awesome and pretty nice place in general. The mussels, awesome, the highlight. Fish and chips, kind of underwhelming, fries and small fried piece of fish. Was still hungry after. Also had the pasta, added shrimp to it. Shrimp itself was fresh and tasty, but at $7.50 I expected more than 3 shrimps. They would of got 4 stars except we were probably seated in the worse patio seat. There was a potted plant poking into my back so I couldn't even lie back on my chair. Came here with a large group (6 Couples) and wow was I impressed. As high end as you'll ever need to go in cottage country. Small menu but everything was very well done. It isn't cheap ($25/$30 entrees) but keeping in mind that in my opinion the fare is a tad higher than normal, the prices fall in line. On top of fantastic food the service was very good as well. We sat on the patio with an excellent view overlooking the spillway and the bridge with the sound of the river below. The west deck was also nice but too much in the sun for when we were there. The inside had a less casual and more fine dining atmosphere. We had the calamari appetizer with a delicious sauce, maybe the best accompaniment ever. Found this super cute place in Thornbury for lunch. I ordered the soup special of the day which was absolutely delicious. For my main I ordered the sautéed mushroom salad. The description was - sautéed mushrooms, goat cheese, baby arugula, red onion, focaccia crouton, dry cranberries, balsamic vinaigrette. The only ingredients that came on the plate was the arugula. Almost seemed like they opened up a box salad and dumped it on the plate. Our server came over because I think she realized that only 1 out of the 7 ingredients was on the plate. She brought over mini ketchup tins of the missing 7 ingredients expecting me to make my own salad. I was shocked. I asked the server if she could take it back and get me a new salad. Not sure why but she was making me feel bad as if I was wasting all that salad. Her exact words were "you really want to waste all that salad" and I said "I'd like a new salad." Under her breathe she said "what a waste." All I wanted was the salad I ordered. If I wanted to make my own salad I would have stayed home. The new salad made its way to the table with only 4 out of the 7 ingredients. I had to request extra salad dressing which had the consistency of thick Dijon mustard. I smeared on the salad dressing with my knife as if I was spreading peanut butter on toast. It was the saddest looking salad ever. I received the bill and they didn't even take the salad off as a courtesy or even offer a discount. It's not even a big deal that the salad wasn't the best since everything else was delicious. The customer service was what got me. The rude comments made earlier threw me off and the fact that I had to pay for a salad that wasn't served complete was disappointing. If they had replaced my salad right the first time around or offered another salad (like any normal restaurant), my experience wouldn't have been so horrible. It's too bad because the other dishes were good. Don't get the arugula salad. Wish there was a 0 star option. read more
