I love this tavern with its spacious patio/lawn by the lake. They even have a ping-pong table. In terms of food - it's a solid pub. Burgers are all good, but my favourite is the pulled pork sandwich. Tacos are also good if you want a lighter meal. read more

I had beer w. chicken fingers -- the fingers, yes, were boneless, but not skinless.. kinda threw me.. sauce, ok. no cutlery on takeout.. no prob.. BUT next time I went in, was asked.. k. friendly otherwise Do have to agree on the friendly but ghostly service - all good then wheredtheygo... all good though.. also had some shrimp pesto pasta that was just ok, the shrimp tasted as if they were on the last day of expiry or something.. they do have open mic though and that's cool but the food is pretty meh. read more

Every year my family goes up to Thornbury to go to Blue mountain. We usually eat out since it's like a nice mini-getaway. This year we ended up trying this place because of the decent reviews and it is literally less than 5 min from our resort. This place serves typical pub fair, and on the weekend it has open mic night and live music. The place looks nice, it's in an old cottage house. The food was decent, large portions, but nothing to rave about. If you're not starved for food or having appetizers or dessert i would say that the entrees are large enough to be shared. My major issue with this place wasn't the food or ambiance, it was our waitress. Maybe if we had a different waitress i would rate this place with 3 stars, being just average, but unfortunately the waitress made the entire experience pretty shameful. To avoid writing up a complete bash of her capabilities the bottom line is she forgot things, she was hard to get a hold of - pretty much MIA our entire meal - and did not bring us items we ordered. It was like she was very sloppy and absentminded. And to add the place was NOT busy, practically half empty. I will give one example of the service because this is a huge pet peeve of mine...when she dropped off the meals I asked for mayo for my burger. She said "we dont have mayo but we have garlic mayo, is that ok"...so i said yea no prob. Usually garlic mayo should cost more but since she offered it in place of regular mayo which should come on the burger anyways i figured it probably doesnt have a charge. When we finally got the bill we saw that there was a charge and asked her why she didn't tell us and assume we were ok to pay it. She said "oh garlic mayo is always charged at like all places". I told her "but you need to tell customers that there is a charge especially if you're going to offer it in place of something that shouldn't have a charge". She didn't change the bill or apologize so this place gets this bad review and she got no tip. Fair warning...place is mediocre at best for food, but for your sake of a good experience please avoid waitress named Jess. read more

Lovely back patio with tons of seating. We came for a Sunday lunch, and would love to go back in the evening one time. Service wasn't super fast, but it was busy and very hot, and they gave us lots of water. Good draft beer list, adding some more micro-brews would be a great idea. My partner had the fish and chips and said it was very good. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was delicious - along with the green salad which had a very nice dressing on it. Took a detour out to this stretch of Thornbury and surrounding area during our Collingwood trip. We were craving some lunch and patio action and we were glad we chose this place. The burger is legit! "The Big Smoke" comes with quality ground prime rib patty, tasty fresh cooked bacon and cheese. Even the fries on the side were solid. Jerk chicken tacos were less impressive but not bad. Beer selection is adequate with a variety of somewhat local options and big macro brands, and they offer a variety of glass sizes to choose from in case a standard 16oz pour isn't enough to wet your whistle. The patio at this place is pretty awesome though. There is a covered section in case it rains, but most important is the picturesque pond in the background. We really enjoyed just hanging out and relaxing on this patio before getting back in the car to head to our next stop. I'm not sure how quick I'll be coming back to Thornbury, but I wouldn't be mad if I came back here again. read more

This is a great place for a drink and pub type food. The decor is eclectic, an old mansion, with fantastic porches and decks for outdoor enjoyment. It is nestled on the river right by the dam. And the scenery is out of this world. The food is excellent, plentiful, and served promptly. The fish and chips is probably the best in the county! Crispy coating, great flavor, and perfectly cooked moist fish. The fries is fresh chipped, and crispy. No soggy fries here! The service was great, fast and friendly. Food came not as ordered, very simple tasks, bit very little attention to food. Great place for mediocre food and drinks with a huge place for kids to run around, but don't come with high expectations. The poorest beer selection in town, only domestic US beer or mediocre craft, only on tap. And when the food come back they clearly microwaved the food, great for a place to relax and eat food by a kitchen staff who checked out on their way in. 2nd time there for our annual trip out to Thornbury / Blue Mountain. Now if you're looking for good food and a great place to grab some drinks, this is the place for you. This place is known for their out of this world selection of whiskey. I believe 800+ options from average to high-end where a "nip" could cost around +$25. Warm friendly staff and cozy decor... Will definitely stop by with the family and friends next year. Call ahead for reservations if you're planning on bringing a large party so you're not disappointed as it looks like they'd only be able to accommodate one large party (of 12) at a time. Food was great. I had the braised lamb shank with mashed potatoes and veggies ($20+). I'd rate that 5*. Hubby has the fall of the bones ribs. Daughter had spaghetti with sauce. Too bad they didn't have meat sauce for kiddos. Save room to try out one of their scrumptious desserts!!! I would have rated it 5/5 if they had more kid friendly food. I used to frequent the place often, a great vibe and good food, But recently the place has gone under a change of management. And it has crippled the restaurant a long wait for a disappointing result. On my last visit I had to wait for 30 minutes to get seated in what seamed to be an almost abandoned place, I waited a further 10 minutes to get served and after having to switch my order due to the lack of the ingredients for a portion of the menu being in the kitchen. After a further wait my food arrived, It was less than satisfying. I could rant further but I don't find it helpful, Some people I meet love the establishment, some share my distaste. This is a review from a satisfied customer, I wish for this to be improved apon. In visits the restaurant is improving and hopefully it will return to the glory it was prior to the change of management. read more

Really friendly staff , however the service is a bit slow. The food was good , but not exceptional. I heard they used to cook the meat in their exterior smoker...too bad they dont use it anymore :( The Thornbury cider is delicious and brewed close by front the restaurant. Worse service ever! Was greeted by a waiter telling us that the seats we were sitting in might be reserved. Then he came back said the reservation was cancelled and threw the menus on the table and didn't bother taking our drink order. The service is very slow and the servers all seem like they are in a bad mood. The servers were really nice and all had funny sayings on the back of their shirts (e.g., if you can read this, I am serving another customer). There were good drink specials and it was overall a fun place to chill out with lots of outdoor seating. Why the 4 stars? Worst service I have ever experienced in any restaurant in any city. Two hours to get chicken fingers! Waiter says he was swamped but yet there are not many people there. Then criticizes the one person in the place who apologized and tried to help. Recommend you go anywhere else. read more
