I gave it a 3 star because the ravioli dish that I ordered was inconsistent. The first time there was a wow factor. The ravioli tasted light and fresh with thin slivers of Swiss chard and parmiagiana cheese sprinkled on top. The second time the ravioli tasted real doughy with big chunks of Swiss chard slattered all over the dish. It was way too much Swiss chard in proportion to the amount of ravioli. It looked more like a mess of things thrown together quickly because the kitchen was in a hurry. The complimentary bread is what I look for in a restaurant. The first time, it tasted fresh and delicious. The second time, the crust was very very hard. The walnut cranberry bread didnt taste like fresh bread, because the walnuts tasted rancid. read more

I wanted to like this place more. It was my first visit. My friend's Caesar salad looked great - full plate with plump shrimp. My Smashed Meatball sandwich was less impressive. Stopped by for lunch and ordered a pizza. Waited at the hostess station for a few minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Finally seated at a small table for two by the window on the wall even though the restaurant was vacant except for one table. Waitress finally showed up and took our order. Pizza was $18 for a 12" pizza with sausage and peppers. Not a whole lot of toppings for that price. Pizza was tasty but way overpriced for the size and quantity of toppings. Won't be back. read more

Lame!!I have been here twice and on BOTH occasions not only was the service slow, but unbelievable rude. The first time I told myself I would never come back and I should have stuck with that. The second trip the bartender literally told me he was doIng me a favor by taking my order and when I asked to talk to a manager he told me that there was no manager there. EXTREMELY disgusted. Not only did our waiter pick the anchovies off the salad with his bare hands (that we requested no anchovies on), but then when we commented on it, he apologized, but didn't even offer new salads, or a discount. Then when they took our pizza to box the leftovers, we watched someone from the kitchen staff take a piece and eat it....then the waiter proceeded to bring the remainder back to us, without saying a word. So many good choices! Seared scallops, clam & bacon toast, and pesto shrimp salad are wonderful starters. Love the sandwich options for lunch, and pasta options for dinner! Is is the third time we've been here. The first 2 times I thought the pasta was a bit pricey but it was very good. A glass of Merlot was $9 so I thought. This time the Merlot was $14 a glass, was not worth the money. We had a pasta dish with sausage sauce which was fine and a pizza whose crust was soggy. The service was fine (we were there at 5:30). Thought we were there early enough for the $2 off a glass of wine, only to find out it was only in the bar. I was quite disappointed and definitely will not go back. La Casa Pasta in Newark is better. This should definitely have 3 if not 4 $. read more

We ate here on Friday after visiting Longwood Gardens. We had drinks at the bar while we waited for an outside table. The cocktails were very good. We had a little mishap while waiting for our table but once we brought it to their attention the staff made it right. They went above and beyond to make our experience great. Our food was delicious and the staff was very nice. We will definitely be back and cannot say enough good things about the staff. read more

Have had dinner here several times. The food was good but not consistent. Had the Garganelli with shrimp which is supposed to be spicy. The first time I had it the spice level was medium heat. But the second time it was extremely hot. There were a lot of jalapeño peppers. read more

Disappointing. Flavorless. Menu has good ideas but seems they can't execute. Caesar salad and shrimp pesto salad both bland. Not sure how a basil pesto supposedly rich with garlic, pine nuts, and olive oil can be bland. Pasta more than al-dente....undercooked; hard in the center. Spicy sausage Bolognese sauce....bland. Amazing food and craft cocktails. Cosy but lively vibe. Creative menu from the pizza to the octopus and everything in between. Would love to see a happy hour or specials at the bar, living so close I'd make it my go to spot! The only drawback is the location... If you are looking for vegan options go elsewhere. I was told that the Pasta contains egg and the pizza crust also contains animal products. This leaves you with 2 options. A salad with a few nuts or a beet salad with sprouts. I went with the beet salad which was very small for the $12 price tag and considering it is not even organic. I was very disappointed. This was our second and last try here. The pizza was very good but the bartender ,Gary,was the worse I ever encountered. He shoved menus across the bar to us came back in two minutes asked "what do you want" we weren't ready ,last we saw of him. Thankfully Chelsea picked up for him. I ordered a Major Attack drink which I got on our first visit it was great this time it tasted like sour grapefruit juice. (Which Gary made)Wish we could of only tipped Chelsey. Today I met a friend for lunch at Hearth Kitchen. The atmosphere was fantastic, loved the decor, the bar area and seating. We ordered the pesto, spinach with cauliflower pizza and it was delicious. My ears were bleeding from the noise level in this restaurant by the time we had finished dinner last night. Indeed, they are still ringing today. I'm also still annoyed that you have to ask for bread if you want some. What's up with that? Last night we waited 38 minutes from the moment we had sat down until the first sight of our food. If a restaurant is going to be that slow, it damn well ought to give its customers something to chew on (besides their thumbs) without their having to ask. read more

Great place! Hearth Kitchen has a great vibe and absolutely delicious food! We tried this newly opened spot for dinner. Although it has only been open for 3 days, they really have their act together. The menu has options for those who want a casual pizza or a full meal.The crunchy flat bread sticks and olive tampanade were a nice touch, We opted for the pasta options which were outstanding! Bucatini with pancetta and a hint of truffle was perfect. DH chose rigatoni with meatballs and that too was great! We splurged on a bottle of Tempanillo worth every penny. Inconsistent food and service over three visits with different dining companions have scored this local restaurant, located in a strip mall near Longwood Gardens, 2 stars. The first visit, soon after the restaurant critic Craig Le Ban's visit, was by far the best, and showed promise. Subsequent visits yielded decreasing quality in both food and service. Oddly, several dishes were ordered all three times and arrived bearing no resemblance to the prior dish. Attention to detail is lacking. The restaurant has been open long enough at this point to have established a decent, consistent standard of service. They haven't. And unfortunately, the food, which often overrides inferior service, is unmemorable, not something you would expect from a chef of this caliber. Not inedible; just lacking the OMG factor. PS The noise level at peak times borders on unbearable, especially if you are seated near a boisterous table. read more

Overall the experience was very good. The place looks great and the ambiance was excellent. We started with the foie gras toast which was excellent and the beef tartare which was very good (a little chunkier than I expected, but yummy with an egg on top). For the main course my wife had the gnocchi and I had the pork cheek ravioli. The raviolis were excellent, savory with a nice acid contrast. The dish had a bit too much sauce, seemed oily, but might have just been a thin sauce. We should have stopped at this point, but decided to have dessert. We split the apple pie dessert. It was really disappointing. The apples and pie part was not hot enough (barely warm)bad well as having not enough flavor. The ice cream was a nice texture, but also had no flavor, therefore overall a sad dessert. Finally the service. Our waitress was very nice and attendant. The weird part of the night was actually how quick the food was served from the time we ordered. It was lightening fast! While it is good that the kitchen is efficient, I felt like they were rushing us out to get to the next customers. They need to work on their timing a little. I would go back and eat there again, especially to try a pizza to give those a review. read more

My husband and I stopped in last night for a drink and light meal. As we usually do, we sat at the bar which was fairly crowded but we were still able to get a seat. After being ignored for about 5 minutes the bartender put down a menu and water, never asking what we wanted to drink. As we sat, 2 other couples came in and sat next to us who he seemed to be familiar with. They were immediately waited on and served while we sat in total disbelief. Only after they were taken care of, was our drink order taken. We then waited another 15 minutes or more to have our food order taken. Meanwhile, the people on either side of us were already on their 2nd drinks and had their food. Food was good but the drinks were extremely overpriced for a shopping center in Kennett Square. I thought maybe we were in Manhattan! Never asked if we wanted anything else but the check came without asking, as they were closing the bar at 9:30.
