First off, I have to acknowledge that Columbus residents are extremely lucky when it comes to Chinese food options within the city. We have what seems to be hundreds of restaurants ranging from precise regional Chinese spots to fusion with other East and SE Asian cusines to Americanized deep-fry to dim sum and beyond... so it can sometimes be hard to choose, and I often think some people leave unfair ratings on different Chinese places because they're judging it for not being one of the other types of Chinese that we have available in the city. HC Way does not have any super-specific or regional dishes (at least not yet), and it's definitely aimed more for people who are craving one of TWO specific things: stir-fried noodles and/or deep-fried Americanized Chinese food. Now, as to why they stand above all the other options when you specifically want THAT type of Chinese food... -You can mix and match. You can get lo mein topped with your favorite Chinese deep-fry, which is an option I don't see enough. I love noodles. I want to marry noodles. But sometimes, I crave the specific texture of a crispy deep-fry dark meat chicken, and it's great to be able to get BOTH. -They're not stingy with the veggies. A lot of places will put like, one piece of broccoli in their noodles/rice/stir-fry. HC Way actually gives you nice big chunks and slices and it's all throughout the noodles/rice. -They have their own sauce, the Uncle You's, which is a spicy-vinegary garlic brown sauce. It is SO good. The Uncle's chicken is my favorite lo mein topping. -They have a ton of other sauces and hot oils that you can add-on and mix in. For example, today I had Uncle You's chicken lo mein with the aforementioned spicy garlic brown sauce, hot oil (which is absolutely bursting with pepper, it's great), and their spicy mayo. It's divine. -The price is hard to beat. Their fried dumplings are an absolute steal, and if you upgrade to a large it's REALLY VERY SERIOUSLY LARGE lmao. For a to-go large, you'll get an entire container of lo mein and an entire separate container of the protein. -They are lovely and are always very cooperative and helpful when it comes to any substitutions or food specifics you might need/want. So yeah, overall - I'm giving them 5 stars, because imo when you want noodles or crispy deep-fry Chinese, there's nowhere better to go for quality/options/price. Does that mean that I believe that they're better than all the other Chinese options in Columbus? Nah, I'm still ride or die for Ying's and NE Chinese for the specific authentic/regional stuff that I personally like to eat. But they're absolutely the best option for this very specific type of Chinese food. My only suggestion is that they add a crispy deep fry pork or beef option as well. I've ordered delivery from the Bethel location twice and have been very happy both times. First order: we got Uncle You's Chicken with fried rice, the fried pork wontons, and roast pork pad thai. Everything was delicious and the portions are very generous for the prices! The fried rice seemed slightly undercooked but that's a quick remedy at home (FYI: microwave it with a bit of water sprinkled over the rice; this can also be done to refresh leftover fried rice the next day) and given how fresh and crispy and delicious everything else was, I couldn't bring myself to care too much. The roast pork pad thai had a generous amount of meat and was just incredibly yummy. The Uncle You's chicken was crispy and a sweet/spicy/garlicky flavour. The fried wonton are amazing and big and you get so many for $3!! Second order: I ordered the Uncle You's chicken again with lo mein instead of rice, and requested extra spicy because I had a cold. I also got more fried wontons and requested hot oil for dipping instead of the sweet & sour sauce that comes default, as well as a small hot & sour soup. Basically perfect food for when you're sick and congested! They not only followed my requests but also threw in extra fortune cookies which I thought was a very sweet gesture since they knew I was feeling sick. The extra spice for the chicken is amazing and I would recommend. Once again, everything was crisp and clearly freshly made and delicious. HC Way is a new Chipotle-style create your own Chinese/sushi restaurant. A couple have popped up around town, and lured by the promise of a quick dinner, I stopped into their Bethel Road location. As mentioned, HC Way allows you to create your own sushi rolls, choosing your wrap, veggies, protein, and sauces. If you're not into that, you'll have an opportunity to create your own rice or noodle dish in the same style. Good choices for gluten-free, vegetarian, and kids beginning to branch out into Chinese food. Always dubious of "fast casual," (the illusion of choice, only slightly fresher food) I checked out the menu and decided on tofu pad Thai. I asked for "extra spicy," which they agreed to, but my pad Thai had the same spice level found at any American-Chinese place. So no spice option. Bummer! Good news - the noodles tasted fresh and the sauce was light. I also grabbed an egg roll, which was standard pre-made, previously-frozen stock. All in all, I can say this: It is a step above Panda Express. The staff were friendly but not overbearing, and let me take my time ordering. The prices are reasonable. Food was made and packed up quickly. Should you go to HC Way? I'm giving it three stars, A-okay - if you like the Chipotle model (or like middle-of-the-road American Chinese), give it a try. read more

The soup I ordered was slimy, chunky, and VERY thick. It was like there was slime in the soup. The consistency was way too off so I didn't even bother trying it and risking getting sick. The chicken tasted a little off too and was flavor less. I've never had this happen before, I usually like this place. Although I have had a few bad experiences when ordering the chicken hc way, I've never had a problem with the soup, it's actually my favorite thing there. I only found out about this place a few months ago, and we've been there a dozen times since... it is very clean, fresh, and reasonably priced. The dumplings/ potstickers are around the best you'll find in the city, not the completely uniform premade frozen kind, or the kind that uses generic/premade wrappings. My new job is next to here and I go pretty frequently for lunch breaks. This is the ultimate American-Chinese food place. If you're the type that picks from the American section of the menu when you go to a Chinese restaurant, this is the place for you. Pick your meat/tofu, 6 veggies, sauce, and cooking style...the portions are huge and the price is just right. My favorite part is the wide selection of veggies (napa, snow peas, and water chestnut included) and sauce (all of your American favorites: tso's, Mongolian, orange and Chinese favorites: szechuan). Save your money for one of the many better family owned restaurants in the area. This one could be family owned but it feels like a franchise to me. I went in thinking, "How bad can it be?". Some of the grossest food I have ever had if you can even call it food. The rice was hard and undercooked, the chicken was dry with barely any sauce and definitely tasted off. I got the sesame chicken, and I thought it was good but not STL good. Still, it was filling and tasty. The GF got orange chicken and she was reasonably pleased as well. This is probably one of the easiest places in Columbus to get Americanized Chinese food without the risk of getting bad cheap Chinese. The menu has a nice selection, they offer sushi and the price is reasonable. It is a few pegs below Leeann Chin, not in Columbus but it will do just fine. Nothing fancy, just your staple Chinese with friendly staff and a decent dining area with TVs for sports. read more

The first time I visited Hcway I enjoyed my meal. I ordered a veggie dish with white sauce. The meal wasn't bad and I though the vegetables were decent quality. The second time I visited the establishment I ordered chicken teriyaki. The meat quality was a huge disappointment, It was really fatty and didn't have the texture of normal chicken, to be honest I had a hard time swallowing my bite. When I looked closer I couldn't really tell what I was eating. I did notice some of the meat was dark meat. I didn't end up eating that meal and left hungry. I do feel they have a good idea going and can offer a decent meal but I wouldn't suggest any chicken dish unless you order it fried. read more

I have been to HC Way on Bethel Rd 3 times now, and each time it was a great experience. I have been trying to eat a bit healthier when eating lunch on the run, and to me this is a perfect place for a healthy meal. The ability to choose and customize your order allows one to pick lighter options, vegetarian dishes, or simply steamed veggies if that's your pick! You can always choose one of the menu items that are more of the standard American Chinese style meals like General Tso's, fried rice, chicken and veggies, etc. I usually get the tofu and vegetables with steamed white rice, after eat in tax it comes to $7 and the portion is large. The decor and atmosphere are nice, and the staff is doing a great job. Super clean bathrooms, too! HC Way has quickly earned a spot on my list of good lunch spots in that area.
