I've been meaning to write this review because this was honestly one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time.
We made a reservation for lunch because this place had been popping up on my Instagram FYP, and we figured making a reservation would help us avoid a long wait and a crowded restaurant. When we arrived, there was actually no crowd at all.
My kids and I walked in, and there was no one at the front to greet us. Employees kept walking past us until I finally stopped someone and told them we had a reservation. They simply pointed to a table and walked away. No "Hi," no "let me get you some menus," no "can I get you something to drink," nothing.
So my kids and I awkwardly walked over and sat down. There were no menus, no silverware, and the only thing on the table was a sticky salsa container that looked like it had been sitting there for who knows how long.
We waited for the rest of our party to arrive, and during that entire time, employees continued walking past us without offering us a menu or even water. When the rest of our party arrived, they experienced the exact same thing.
At one point, my husband actually went to the front and grabbed menus for us himself because no one had brought us anything. It honestly felt like we had to serve ourselves.
It was over 30 minutes of us basically sitting there staring at each other before someone finally came over to take our drink order. And keep in mind, this restaurant doesn't even offer chips and salsa while you wait.
When they finally took our drink order, we had to ask for menus because, again, nobody had brought us any.
Eventually our drinks came out, one by one, and then we had to wait again because the employee wasn't ready to take our food order.
While we were sitting there with half-empty cups, another employee randomly came over and asked if we needed our check. I literally said, "Huh? We haven't even gotten our food yet."
This was also the same employee who had previously asked us, with an attitude, "Did you sit yourself there or did someone seat you?" Well... when nobody greets you, points to a table, and walks away, what exactly were we supposed to do?
When we finally got to order, the first thing my child wanted was birria. Of course, they were out.
Okay, no problem. We looked through the menu for something basic. Chicken enchiladas? They were out of those too.
So we ended up ordering enchiladas with asada for the kids because there wasn't much left to choose from. Honestly, I probably shouldn't have ordered anything for them because they barely ate it.
I also ordered a side of rice for my little one. The rice was completely flavorless, and the portion was tiny -- maybe half a cup at best.
Then my husband and I ordered one of the three-item plates they advertise, which was actually one of the things that originally caught our attention and made us want to try this place. It came with morisqueta that was supposed to be made with pork ribs, or at the very least some kind of pork meat.
What came on the plate?
A square of TOFU.
At that point, I assumed they must have been out of pork too, considering they had already been out of multiple things we tried to order. I was already so frustrated that I didn't even say anything.
But then my mom's plate came out with tofu too.
So this wasn't just some random mistake on one plate.
The food was honestly just as disappointing as the service.
I can overlook mediocre customer service if the food is exceptional, or even just really good. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here.
I don't expect perfect or over-the-top service. I understand restaurants get busy and things happen. But basic things like a smile, a greeting, a menu, silverware, or simply asking, "Can I get you something to drink?" should not be too much to expect when you're dining at a restaurant.
What made it worse was that nearly every employee we interacted with looked annoyed or like they didn't want to be there. I'm not sure what was going on that day, but the entire atmosphere felt uncomfortable.
I debated whether to even write this review, but the experience was honestly that bad. The service was extremely poor, multiple menu items were unavailable, the food was underwhelming, and the portions were disappointing.
The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars instead of 0 is because the owner did smile at us and the liquado was actually good.
Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to make up for the overall experience. I
really wanted to like this place, especially after seeing it so many times on Instagram, but I left feeling like we had wasted our time and money. read more
