Panchito burritos had zero flavor--No seasoning, not even salt. My wife and I had to add seasonings and salt to the burritos in order to eat them because they were so bland that they were difficult to eat. The nachos were soggy with 90% refried beans (I thought nachos were mostly chips and cheese? Where was the cheese?!?! ) I remember when Frank used to run the restaurant and his wife would cook--Those were the good old days. Unfortunately, I'm writing a review because this has once again been a below par meal we've had from here and may not chance our money here again. Sorry Frank, but it's just not the same place we used to love when we started going 23 or so years ago. Anyways, I wish the best of luck to you guys. On 4/19/26, I was craving my favorite Mexican food, so I placed an order from La Huerta Vieja and it was on point like always! I ordered the Chile Rellenos with green chili, rice, and beans. And, of course, the bean dip with green chili was so fresh and delicious and the chips too. Like always . My order was a reminder that La Huerta is always fresh, delicious, and there. Also, it's been an overdue pickup order. Working in the area and a quick search and this place came up... Entered around 12pm and it was empty... Greeted by a super friendly waitress and was brought chips, salsa, and a bowl of refried beans, verde sauce, and cheese. Different! The bean dip hit harder than the salsa. Ordered a asada burrito, rice, and beans and a horchata. Food was ok, the meat was cooked well but under seasoned. The rice is rice. The star was the horchata! Overall a decent place, but would probably try some place else in the future. read more

Excellent, speedy & friendly service. We found La Huerta Vieja on Yelp. The pictures of the interior looked unique and casual. Plus, it was a huge space so we figured there wouldn't be a long wait if we went in. It was after the lunch rush so we were seated immediately. It's pretty standard that Mexican restaurants give complimentary chips + salsa. La Huerta Vieja was very generous and gave one small dish of salsa for each my bf and I. Not only that, included in this service was a bowl of refried beans topped with cheese and salsa verde! First time I've come across this! We had already eaten some free (but limited) tacos at the event we came from so I only wanted my usual build-your-own-vegan-sides of beans & rice. Since we got beans already, all I needed was rice and I was set. The bf ordered a burrito mojado w/asada and the thing was HUGE!! We had both ran a full marathon so we were hungry!! I don't eat as much so the generous serving of beans & rice was more than enough for me. I had leftovers. As large as the burrito was, the entire thing disappeared in like 15 minutes! Needless to say, my bf thought it was amazing! The prices were very reasonable and we were 100% satisfied with our post-marathon feast! So good! read more

Review copied and pasted from old Yelp account. Jan 10, 2011. After my experience today, I wanted to only give one star. But because I've had better experiences in the past, I gave two stars. In the past, I have had more attentiveness, attention, and accuracy. Today I have to give a big UNSATISFACTORY mark. Frankly, both myself and my lunch companion felt completely unheard, and I'll even go as far to say, irrelevant. Shockingly, this treatment was from the owner himself. My lunch companion asked if the chimichanga came with lettuce, sour cream, olives, and guacamole on top. Our server (the owner) said, yes, it comes on top. When the dish came, it did indeed have the lettuce and sour cream on top. But, no olives or guacamole. I asked for a container to take home the rest of what was on my plate, as well as a container for the chips and salsa. I even physically pointed to the three items as I asked for the containers. The owner (our server) came back with one container, and quickly started to walk away. I asked him again if I could have a container for the chips and salsa. Again, using my hands and fingers to point to the food. He came back with a bag for my chips. I just left without bothering to ask for a container for my salsa. I noticed he was very friendly with his regular customers. I hope his regular customers can keep him in business, because I am afraid with his lack of interest in his newer customers, they, like us, will decide never to come back. There are better Mexican restaurants. Better service, and better tasting and fresher food. I always thought the food here was decent. But, nothing to brag about. I chose to go to this restaurant today because I am a business owner myself, and like to support my neighborhood businesses. But, with the treatment today, I rather drive farther to get better service and better food. If you are in Riverbank, I highly recommend La Parrilla. The food is very fresh and tasty. The service is so, so. But, their food more than makes up for the average service. They also have a great atmosphere. I also recommend Casa Flores on La Loma in Modesto. They have excellent service ALWAYS. I've been there many times, and whether they are slow or busy, the service is outstanding! It's a family owned and operated business. They have yummy chile rellenos. If you are in Oakdale, I highly recommend Cafe Bravo. Excellent, high quality food, and super fresh too. Great service as well. read more

The vibe of the place felt a bit old and dingy, but the staff was very friendly and attentive. They were constantly checking in on their tables to make sure everyone was good, which I really appreciated. Their communication with each other was also on point, so there was no confusion, which is always a plus. As for the food, it was alright overall. Delicious food. Great service! I have not had the opportunity of dining inside- however the " to go " is spot on. I have ordered several catering orders and they have always accommodated even when I called in with 24 hours to spare. Food was packed very nice in warming dishes, boxed in a clean new box with the restaurants name right in the front. They have pride in their establishment and it shows in their food and how they present their food. I keep coming back! Birthdays, baby showers, teacher appreciations, work lunches check check check! The food portions are bountiful! I ordered for 50 people and I probably could have fed 75 hungry souls easily! I can't say I'm disappointed but rather, I'm embarrassed. These reviews don't know what real Mexican food is supposed to taste like. The place has authentic on its title but there's nothing authentic about their food. I'm sorry but it's true. I got a chicken fajita for two and it came out to freaking $36 for the dish! It was mostly freaking bell peppers! No manches, and the little chicken they provided tasted dry. The rice, bland as heck man. She wasn't even the right color! I'm talking about a pale orange. I should have taken a picture. Beans were ok. The chips and salsa were ok as well. I got a margarita and damn was she strong. But where this place could have redeemed itself was the flan. unfortunately they didn't pass. The flan has no Carmel sauce, and strangely I tasted more cinnamon than the standard egg custard. Flan is not even suppose to have cinnamon to begin with! Pricey slice too! Freaking 5 dollars for a little slice! If you want REAL Mexican food, whatever you do, don't come here. read more

I ordered the Panchito Burrito Carne Asada, wow this thing is huge. Has everything inside, rice, beans, meat, sour cream, guacamole, & cheese. I thought I would just have a burrito and chips. Not the case, I also got their bean dip, and 4 salsas. Great way to have lunch, way too much food lol good problem I guess right. Staff is friendly. They also now have family meals Togo. TASTEY OR WASTEY? Totally WASTEY!!!! I googled, best tamales in Modesto. This was one of the places that popped up! Yuck! The chicken was dry and the beef tamale had cinnamon in it. The masa was puffy and tasteless. How disappointing. I should have bought my 2 dozen tamales from the lady parked at B of A for less than I paid for 4?tamales here. Lesson learned. read more

Awesome customer service. Super super nice staff. The burrito was huge. Possibly 5lbs. I had it with carne asada and carnitas as the meat. Both of them were flavorful and juicy. The burrito was stuft and was barely held together by the tortilla. If i had to choose a meat between the two, id go with the carne. They also give you complimentary chips and dip. The dip is a bean/green salsa. My wife killed it. She ate all my chips too because it was so good. Definitely Definitely will be coming back. read more
