We came here after church on a Sunday. The food was okay. We had a large party (11 adults & 5 kiddos) and I understand there was another large party eating as well. But the service just seemed slow. We had to wait for refills on chips and salsa, we had to remind/ask for refills on drinks. Our food took awhile to come out. Even when I food finally came out, we had to wait for utensils. We just had dinner at Dos Compadres. We've been here a couple of times before. We went back today because Wednesday is happy hour all day long. Domestic tall are $4.50 and imported talls are $5.50. The food is decent but we were there mostly for the beer. Both my wife and I had Michelob Ultras. The service was okay but each time I finished my beer I had to wait for about 5-10 minutes before the waiter asked if we wanted another beer. Keep in mind, only 6 tables were being used at the time. When the bill came, I went over it to make sure everything was correct. Lo and behold we were being charged for imports even though we had domestic beers. I questioned the waiter and he tried to tell me that the happy hour price was for the shorts. I had to show him in their menu that the price was for the talls. The waiter tried to blame it on the computer system after. There was only a $10.00 difference but it's the principle. They were trying to get over on us. My Granddaughter and I stopped in there for lunch while shopping around noon. There were only 4 tables of people there so we expected decent service but what we got was very disappointing. There were two waiters for only 5 tables of customers but the service was awful. We waited approximately very long time for service and finally was brought a basket of chips and some salsa and the waiter thew it on the table with the chips spilling onto the table as he hurried off. We had no water and they did not take our drink orders and chips and salsa are very hard to eat without liquid. I finally asked the passing waitress for water and it still took until we were finished with our chips and salsa before we finally got water and she took our orders. I ordered another round of chips and salsa to have while we waited for our food which we never got. Our food came out finally after a long wait and it was good. I had a taco salad and my Granddaughter had 3 taco's. Then we waited and waited to get the ticket so that we could resume our shopping trip and I finally had to go get the waitress and ask for the ticked so we could leave. Needless to say I left only a small tip because the food was good but I do not plan to ever go back there because there are lots of Mexican Restaurants in town with great food and much better service especially with the economy the way it is I expect good service and food when I have to pay these prices to eat out now. read more

Highly recommend! Service was great. Jerry the bartender was our server. He was attentive and respectful. We ordered spicy cucumber margaritas. Sooo delicious. Definitely would order again. One bartender is a little light with the alcohol so when we see him I'm not ordering a cocktail I'm getting a michelada with negra modelo. I was recommended this restaurant from my sister. I came with my sister, brother in law, nephew and my kids. I gave 2 stars because the food was ok. The service was not so great. When we first arrived it took about 15 minutes before a hostess even acknowledged us, we were finally seated, it then took about 20-25 minutes before we even got some water, I ordered the chili relleno plate with rice and beans, one if my daughters ordered the kids quesadilla with fries and i also ordered a regular quesadilla with nothing on it. The waitress repeated the order back to me and itbwas correct..... when the waitress brought out the plain quesadilla I had ordered, she walked up and said (I know you ordered plain nothing on it but they put sour cream, guacamole and Pico De Gallo on it, do you want it? I said no thank you, I ordered plain (because it was for my 4yr old). She says ok with an attitude and takes it back. She comes back fairly quick, only to hand me a plate that had the same quesadilla on it where you can clearly see the toppings were scraped off and the quesadilla cut. So basically I got half of the regular quesadilla that I ordered with topping still on it. In my honest opinion, she should have never brought the food out to me knowing damn well that is not what I ordered, she should have had the cook remake this item correctly. After the waitress brought almost all our plates out, my brother was sitting there for about 10 minutes without food until we asked about his plate. So unprofessional! The chimichanga that I had at Taqueria Dos Compadres is the best that I have ever had! It was well cooked and delicious. It comes with your choice of meat, rice, beans, lettuce and guacamole. The taste is rich and flavorful. I had flan for dessert. Again it was the best that I have ever had. The flan is thick enough to stand up and thin enough to put a fork through. It is fluffy and delicious. The caramel is just perfect. It is flavorful and just the right consistency. The wait staff are attentive and friendly. The ambiance is colorful and welcoming. I have never been to Dos Compadres before. We were in the area (McHenry Avenue in Modesto) with a friend, and I hardly ever have Mexican food! I love Mexican food. However, when we dine out, we usually end up somewhere else. It was clean and visually appealing inside. Lots of colorful displays of papel picado, "punched" or "perforated" paper. The flowers are pretty, and the booth we sat in was roomy and comfortable. The waitress was sweet and on top of it! She was friendly and helped us navigate the menu, since it was our first time at this restaurant. I was appreciative for her suggestions. She also brought everything in a timely manner, even when they started to get a little busy. My food was delicious. I asked for my camarones/shrimp with creamy mushroom sauce to not have any cilantro or wine. They were accommodating. It came with rice and beans, a little salad (lettuce and tomato) and choice of flour or corn tortillas. I was a bit sad that the refried beans were not plentiful. There was much more rice than beans (I posted a photo). The bowl hides the fact that there were hardly any beans to speak of. My plate was about $20.00. My friend ordered the Taco Tuesday special. Just $2.00 each. They come standard with choice of meat: beef, chicken, carnitas, or pastor, onions, cilantro, salsa, and lemon wedges. I ordered some tacos to go for my son, he only wanted the meat and easy cilantro. He said he wished it had a little cheese on it, but they tasted good. Overall, a good experience. There are so many choices for Mexican food in Modesto. We use to come here a lot but it had been a while so we came on a Friday afternoon. I had a combo with chile relleno and cheese enchilada with red sauce. Wife had a veggie burrito with red and green sauce. That red sauce was so good!!! Great service and we really enjoyed our entire meal. The second basket of chips.......yes we had two baskets... don't judge! That second basket was freshly made and still warm and just tasty crunchy fresh chips and the house sauce was better than I remember. My wife and I drove our vehicle to Modesto Subaru for warranty service a few months ago. Our food of choice is Mexican food, so while our car was being serviced, we drove up the boulevard looking for a Mexican restaurant and discovered Dos Compadres Taqueria. We enjoyed the restaurants decor, and the service was good. My meal was a chili colorado burrito. I was not happy with the grizzly beef. Although I discussed my issue with my wife I did not complain to our waitress. Recently we visited the restaurant and like a dummy I ordered the same meal and had the same issue. Been here twice and both times have been a pleasant visit. Place was clean and I was seated fairly quickly. Ordered my food and with ten minutes or less it was in front of me. Flavor of the food was good and the Asada had just enough char to wear you can tell it was actually cooked on the grill rather than boiled. Wish the rice portion was bigger and could definitely go without the lettuce. The pork tamale was moist and flavorful. The edges were a bit over cooked which caused the perimeter of the tamale to be a bit dry but overall it was still delicious. I have gone here numerous times. Mostly on Sundays. They advertise "happy hour" on a few drinks . Michealada being one of them. It is advertised for $7.00 on Sundays and I ordered a tall Michelob ultra which is a normal price of $7.00 on sundays. When I got the bill I was charged $9.00 for michealada and $8.50 for ultra. The problem is this overcharging has happened to us on 3 different visits. When I questioned waiter he acted like he was unaware of Sunday special. I asked him if they raised the beer prices for ultra? He said "I don't know, I think so". I just want to let customers know to look over their bill when you get it.
