Easy to sign up and schedule installation. The price was half the cost of Spectrum with double the speed at 1G. I got my Fioptic installed the same week that I requested service. Ferd was our technician and he did a great job in cleaning up old wires and installing the new cable. He changed the box on the side of our house. We had a lot of very old cabling still sitting in the box. He was in and out in less than an hour and helped me get the wireless set up before leaving. The internet speed is so much better and has been reliable so far. We have not suffered any outages and we don't see the lag that we used to when watching tv or checking security cameras. read more

Jermaine came out to install our new fiber optic line, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, efficient, and thorough, making the entire installation seem like a breeze. He also went above and beyond by following up on a few other things for us on the back end. Thank you, Jermaine, and Hawaiian Telcom, for the excellent service! We truly appreciate it! read more

The process took longer than at first anticipated, but the majority of employees were really pleasant, courteous, and professional. Special thumbs up for Troy at the Ka Makana Ali'i store, and for Jonah and his team who had to do a lot of intense work breaking up the sidewalk, digging a significant length of my yard to lay new conduit lines, repaving the sidewalk. Jonah and his team worked so efficiently and left everything so neat and tidy. Impressive. read more

Super easy install and the connectivity is so much faster than Spectrum. Very satisfied!!

Easy to sign up and schedule appointment. After that it is horrible experience! Tech could not finalize installation and told me to call the next day to send a tech. Next day was a Friday and I called and put on hold then said they will call me back in 15-20 minutes and I would not lose my position. No calls..so I called on Sat...no return calls. Finally on Sunday spoke to Penny who said someone will contact me on Monday. No calls until I called again on Thursday..one week later & spoke to Ali & she said she will cancel everything but keep active landline until it gets transfered to Spectrum...about 7 days. At that time she said I would not get charged for anything because I received no service. In 7 days I need to call back (hope someone answers) for return label for the modem once Spectrum has my home phone landline. I was hoping for a great experience with Hawaiian Tele. read more

Initially dealing with their customer service for correct installation and billing was horrific and I gave 1 star. Since then I did finally get a call back from a supervisor who made sure everything moved forward to completion properly and easily in setting up my account and installation. Besides their customer service being awful, price and quality was good, and their Wi-Fi network is much better quality than cable Wi-Fi (which is why I switched). If you need customer service and they don't resolve the issue within 3 people and 45 minutes, PUSH HOWEVER IS NEEDED to be connected to a supervisor. They have the skill and authority to get things done (at least the one I spoke with did). read more

Whats more irritating than their incompetent oversea call centers are the cut and paste social media responses acting like they care about your problem. People literally told them their problems and all their frustrations and how they waited hours and hours for resolution... what is social media help going to do differently? read more

I finally decided to drop Spectrum and give HiTel a chance. I contacted HiTel and customer service rep detailed my options. I decided on a package that met my basic needs. They set up an appointment for installation for the upcoming Saturday. They could have done it earlier but I had previous commitment. They gave me a window of 8-12. The tech came early which I appreciated. Took a look and layed out the plan for installation. Fortunately there was an existing cable which was ideal for the new wiring. I also pointed out some old telephone lines that were hanging low. She offered to remove them while running the new cable from the pole. She set up the hardware and helped me set up the app to monitor the WiFi. She was patient in explaining things. She finished in a timely manner. So it's been up and running for about 5 days and so far I'm very satisfied. read more

Install window is very limiting. 8-5 is the window given, locking you in to be available at home the whole day. Installed the system, didn't give me the free router that was a promotional sign up, then the system was slow. 32 Mbs. I pointed this out to the technician who said it was because we were outside on WiFi in a dead zone. I was doubtful as previous cable gave me 120 in the same area. I had to leave and came back to test it with Ethernet. 80-220 gbs on speed test. Called Hawaii Telcom. While on hold the system died. After over an hour of calling was told next appointment was 6 days away. Getting in touch with somebody who can make a change is impossible, they reference the system says I see there's availability next week, and you're stuck dealing with foreign agents spouting platitudes that mean nothing . read more

Switched to Fioptics. Easy. Fast simple installation. Tech qualified and experienced. Service far superior. And saved money. Very happy.

After 1 week we are still experiencing frequent problems when streaming. A ticket was opened and after going through standard process problem still exists. Hawaiian Telecom said they would monitor the problem. Speed Test shows very slow internet when having issues. Speed test has been as low as 20 mbps download and now upload speed has diminished regularly, current is 8.56 mbps. Others report similar problems online. Maybe we need to go back to Spectrum. read more

Love my Hawaii Telcom!! Very fast and reliable compared to others. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Technician was knowledgeable and helpful. Service was very quick and efficient. He was very friendly and cooperative throughout the process.

WORST installation appointment! WORST customer service communications! HiTel confirmed the previous night that it would install between 8-12. Waited until 12:30, no one showed up, no one called/texted. Had to call customer service which said it had changed the appointment to 1-5pm. Why didn't SOMEONE contact me? I complained and a supervisor said someone would arrive between 1-2pm and would call me before arriving. NO call! Installer finally arrived at 2:30. Terrible communication and treatment of a brand new customer! read more

Just switched from a cable box to Tivo with Hawaiian Tel. Tivo absolutely sucks. Has a lot of features I don't need and does not have a lot of the features I do need (and had with a cable box). Hawaiian Tel won't allow you to switch back to a cable box because they will be requiring everyone to switch to Tivo. Bad move Hawaiian Tel. read more

As a brand new customer I'm very disappointed with the quality. Of service. The person who installed it left a snake pit of wires, which is dangerous, especially with small children around. Then I requested someone to come & fix the snake pit. The day & time was inconvenient but given my urgency to address it, I left work early to accommodate what day & time being offered. It was set for 1-5. I was home @ 12:30. I get a recorded phone message saying someone was at my house & there was no one home. And to reschedule. I stayed in the line 2.5 hrs. On hold waiting for someone to come on the line so I could schedule another date. I know there automatic message by heart ' how they appreciate my patience". The tech call me when he arrived for our appointment. He told me he had to go down the road to run the fiber cable from a pole where it had stopped when they installed it. What does it take to get a local representative on the phone? We were having trouble with our DVR, and called to get someone to tell us what was going on. I was told that they no longer support the DVR and we had to go to TVo. They said they couldn't fix my DVR problem until we just switched over. Then they said I'd save two dollars by switching to the new system, and that it was just as good if not better. Well after I said OK then I found out it only covers for 50 hours of recordings for 180 days. Our current one goes forever and holds way more than 50 hours. When I called back, they said I could get an upgrade. But it would cost $20 more a month. I just wanna talk to somebody from locally who knows what's going on. I don't wanna have to go downtown to their office but maybe that's what I have to do? I don't know why I need Teva instead of what I've got. I just called and they said they have nobody in Oahu or on the island that I can speak to. I have to talk to them and if I trust her 75% she'll do her best to help me. I've called three times and don't get anybody. Who knows what they're talking about or who can explain why I have to switch. This is very frustrating. We also have Wi-Fi services problems, so I asked about that and they said that they checked it and it looked like it was fine, but it's not. Just frustrated. read more

Hawaiian telcom service is awesome! on the other hand customer service is more than disappointing... can NEVER get through customer service quick enough, AND WHEN YOU FINALLY DO YOUR ON THE PHONE WITH SOMEONE IN THE PHILIPPINES. was a HT customer for 8 years before switching because of this exact reason and pricing at the time. 3 years Later I'm back a customer again, for the 3gb speed. figured try again, also Thinking maybe they upped their customer service like their competitive speeds and pricing. I was wrong, still lacking customer service, still no app to manage or pay your bill. id recommended to HT make some changes to there mobile systems and focus on their customer service infrastructure, I really can't explain how terrible it is. Come on we're in 2026 still no app? Still not a Local tech to talk to for support. 2 stars because has a lot of potential to be better. I'm hoping things change while I'm still a customer. If nothing changes after my promotional rate, a hui ho. read more

I give them a ZERO. My 300 unit condo AOAO just underwent an upgrade to Hawaiian Tel system with its Fioptics and TiVo streaming. No more dvr box. I leave the tv on for my dog during the day. Despite turning standby mode off the system automatically goes into standby mode after 4 hrs of inactivity to save bandwidth and $$ for Haw tel. After 3 weeks waiting for a tech support call back, someone finally called me. And despite all the misinformation they previously gave me, they admitted there is no way to avoid the 4 hrs auto standby when no one is present to click the remote. Absolute nonsense! read more

I'm choosing to post a compliment for Hawn. Telcom Technician, Will. He was wonderful. Pleasant, efficient, and knowledgeable. Also, fast! I've been a Hawaiiantelcom customer forever. Joined up when they first offered service in my neighborhood I switched because Spectrum was so bad. Hawaiiantelcom infrastructure is now very very poor. I'm on a second day of intermittent service in Mililani. They know about the outage, working on it, but don't have any time frame for restoration. Last year, they said that my area was scheduled for upgrading in 2024. Nothing has happened. Also won't invest in newer home routers because they will be obsolete. Sucks all around. read more

Service was quick and easy, technician very knowledgeable about issue and had everything done in less than 10 mins.

Neither my land line or internet service with HiTel have worked for months. After a customer service representative told me the "transformer" needed to be repaired and wouldn't be repaired for a month, I cancelled both account on 1/28/2025, yet HiTel continues to bill me. I have spent HOURS on the phone with customer service trying to get a credit back to my cancellation date but to no avail. Do I have to file a small claims lawsuit against HiTel to get them to acknowledge the cancellation of my accounts with them? I was a customer for over 50 years. You would think they would give me a little more respect. read more

Recently, our condominium development held several events to inform its residents about the upcoming bulk internet conversion to Hawaiian Telcom Wireless. Apparently, our AOAO decided that Hawaiian Telcom's Fiber High Speed services would benefit all of the residents, in terms of service and value. We scheduled our installation and disconnected our current internet service with Hawaiian Telcom's competitor. On installation day, the installing technician, Robert, arrived at the scheduled time. He was friendly and answered several questions that we had about the new connection. After a few minutes, another technician, Aaron, came by to provide further assistance since we wanted service throughout our unit. Both installers were friendly and readily answered or addressed our concerns. Before they (Robert & Aaron) left, they double checked the connections and asked us to log-in to the Wi-Fi. We were impressed with how quickly our devices responded. We're looking forward to using this internet service in our home and about town. read more

I have used Hawaiian Telcom for many years and this year noticed the service has gone downhill. They switched my plan and I never received a bill with the new amount so I continued to pay monthly what I was paying for the last two years. Now they are charging me $15.95 X2 late fee even though I was never late paying them. I have called several times over the past 5 months asking to speak to a supervisor and never get a call back. Every rep I talk to tells me they will credit my account, but instead I received 2 letters telling me I have a past due balance they will send to collections. On top of that I keep experience glitches in my internet service. After Tech Support told me to go pick up a new modem, it is now slower than before. Speed Test shows Download 6.44 and Upload 0.55. Just installed the new High Speed Fiber Optics 500 Mbps TV / Internet Service that Hawaiiantel offered for $89.00 TV/Internet Bundle in Kapolei. Price that is to be billed after taxes and fees is well over $200.00...so one lie there. Now I have 30 days to try for free...Internet test at 26 feet from Hawaiiantel Router is 85Mbps Download and 35 Mbps upload after multiple tests. Technician was very nice but he agreed not speed that is promised. I even went out and purchased a NightHawk Gaming Router...same speeds...then today from Costco a Netgear Orbi mesh system and same speeds, slightly slower...My Spectrum 200Mbps is always well over 200Mbps...I think I'll keep Spectrum...don't waste your money and time for Install until Hawaiiantel can improve their product. read more

The 24 hour customer service I give 2 stars. It seems they think unplugging and plugging back in is the answer. Nope. Needed new equipment. Today i had a Hawaiian Telcom technician install my wireless internet in my room. I had a good customer service experience from the Sales person Faith to Mario the technician. From the beginning to the end I was impressed. Mario called me to advise he will be at my house within 30mins and yes he did arrived approximately within 20mins. He took about 1 1/2 hrs to install my internet. He than explained where to find the IP address on the modem than helped me Installing my WiFi on my phone and IPad. Mario also went over and beyond by helping me hang our telephone line higher. I guess throughout the Year with high winds our telephone wire sagged. I ask him if I need to call Hawaiian Telcom to make another appointment so another Technician need to come. Mario said no problem he can do it for me. I was so grateful he took out his ladder than climbed to hang the telephone wire higher. So I rated there service and company 4.5 stars. HAWTEL has really fallen in local service in my many years of experience with them. I am thinking of going back to their competitor.... Right now my home phone, TV, and internet are all dead (probably due to rain storm last night), but I cannot get through to local service. I got someone at last, probably in the Philippines, nice enough and polite, but clueless about local issues, simply telling me that something might get done after the weekend. It would help if I knew if the problem was widespread, only on my hill, or near my house. jlearned@hawaii.edu read more

The only positive I have to comment on is the overseas customer service people in the P.I. who are always pleasant l..never lose their cool, and try hard to solve issues. On the other hand, Hawaiian tel service technicians, both employed by the company and worse the contractor technicians have poor customer service skills and can leave you hanging when you have a problem by saying..." it is not our equipment".... it's something else....so what do I do? where do I go?
