There is something wrong with the way they run the bar in the pool hall area. Once the crowd picks up the line for a drink is a mile long. They are horribly under staffed and they are completely out of their depth as far as how to run a bar efficiently. On top of that once the line is a mile long they will belligerently ask you to stand in line for 30 minutes just to close your tab. The management is throwing away thousands of dollars a night in lost revenue because people who would buy drinks are walking out the door instead of standing for their shit. Do not go here on the weekend to play pool! read more

My friends and I adore HB! It's a great place for concerts and shows. Their crew really puts their heart into their work and you can tell. There really is something for everyone. We love the options at Wild Orange. I've been sober from alcohol for the better part of 3 years and normally speakeasies don't have much to offer me. It's fun to still get to cry some craft drinks without the booze. Their vegan and veg bites are creative and delicious. I've had many a great night dancing, eating, and jamming out with people I love. They also host different pool and darts events that I've spectated at. Always fun just to play casual pick up, but some of my friends play more seriously in some of the tournaments and it's nice that their venue is large enough for the crowd. Parking can be tight but if you go to the top level there is normally something open. As long as you remember to get your parking validation (they even have a sign reminding you) it's very reasonable and cheaper than ride sharing if you have someone who's able to drive. read more

Event space for concerts/club, 2 pool rooms, full bar, darts, and a hidden speakeasy (see review of Wild Orange). da Play: Came in early afternoon/evening and was already busy, tables were a little worn, but true and spaced nicely, there were mostly regulation-size tables and a few smaller bar-size ones by the darts. Good cues were a little sparce and for some reason a lot of "keiki-sized" ones... then I realized why when some kiddos walked by. I think it's great that you can bring your kids, now I get why the "21 band" gets issued at security. There was a lecture/event w/ Hawaiian music in the event space when we got there, turned into a club with music thumping through the walls later on. Played almost two hours, with three rounds of drinks, very reasonable. da Service: Park, check in, parking validated, hit the bar, drop your name for a table and wait for the pager to vibrate while sipping on cold drinks... Bartenders were nice as was the very diverse crowd. 20 somethings groups chatting it up, date night couples, bros drinking more than playing, families w/ kids, and a few semi-serious guys "in session". GREAT PEOPLE WATCHING. Came here last night to play pool with some friends. We ended up getting drinks at the bar which was a complete shit show. The line is long and this is the only bar I've ever seen where if you sit at the bar the bartenders will not serve you but instead make you wait in line which takes about 20 minutes. There were 2 blonde bartenders working and holy crap they were rude for no reason! We got there around 9-10 and I thought their attitudes would lighten up as the night went on but it didn't. We still decided to tip them hoping maybe they were just having a bad night but we were wrong. If you hate your job just quit!! Bartenders really make or break the experience and they broke it for us so we ended up leaving to take our business else where! read more

My favorite spot on the island hands down. I love their events. Especially the Cozy R&B parties. My last two events were the Rodeo and Chocolate City Party. It is located on 2nd floor in the garage. The garage gets packed quick. I highly recommend to uber. There is street parking available but you might have to do some long walking. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but the bartender completely ruined the experience. The attitude alone was enough to make us not want to stay. She came off cold, dismissive, and borderline hostile for no reason. It felt like we were bothering her just by trying to order a drink. The interaction only got worse as the night went on. Instead of being helpful or even neutral, she came off sarcastic and unprofessional, which made the whole situation uncomfortable. It's one thing to have an off night, but this didn't feel like that. It felt like a consistent lack of basic customer service. There might be some good things about this spot, but it's hard to notice them when the person behind the bar sets such a negative tone. The blonde bartender really ruined my night. It was my birthday and we had been on the waitlist for a pool table so she gave us a buzzer and it was finally our turn. We find out under 21 people can't play after 10pm so we decide to give up our pool table because we had a couple under 21 girls. I bring the pool table materials back and she proceeds to be extremely rude saying things like "get out of here already." "Why would you do this to me." "You're gonna have to wait, idk why you did this." I just really wanted my ID back because she was holding it for the pool table. We genuinely were nice to her but she gave us attitude. It's pretty spacious with many large and bar-sized pool tables as well as darts. The tables, balls and cues were in pretty good condition too. Drinks and games are reasonably priced as well. Wish I could give 0 stars. I've been to HB twice in the last year and it's been the same blonde bartender who is very rude and for some reason acts like she's got a stick up her a**. My friend asked for a drink and was told it was a $10 minimum so she didn't get the drink. However when we were checking out the bartender with a sly remark said there's a drink up here that wasn't paid for and forced us to pay. The pool was fun but I won't be going back and giving my money to a place that employs people like that. I would give the place 5 stars if it wasn't for that bartender. read more

Had fun playing pool. Cool staff. The parking is not great.... It's shares the parking lot with 24hr fitness. But it's town so we expect that. You can park at Ala Moana shopping center and walk over if you're a stickler about "bad parking" or if you have an oversized vehicle. It's taken me a while to review this place because I saw other reviews and I just want to start this review setting expectations. There's not many places in Hawaii for pool and darts on the cheap. I started coming here as an 18 year old who didn't wanna go back to her dorm but also didn't have money so $1 pool and darts at HB's it is! People complain about the ambiance of this place, but in all honesty, I never had an issue with it; it adds character of who/what Hawaiian Brian's is. Okay, the Crossroads venue could use some air circulation, but in Hawaii, venues like Crossroads are hard to find that are cheap and convenient. Would I come to an event here? Not really, just because I feel like the prices aren't worth it nowadays. I feel like HBs has 9/10 given just what I was looking for: a chill place to play a couple games to end off the night. Although, I do have to take off a star because pool is no long $1 anymore, I think it's per person, per hour now. But other than that, you can't expect a lot from this place, but that's a good thing. I feel like we all need someplace reliable like this and I'm glad Hawaiian Brian's has always been there to deliver. read more

A funky entrance location inside a parking lot next to 24 hour fitness held a surprising good venue for music. We were very pleasantly surprised indeed! Came for a jazz saxophone show for Nelson Rangell in their Crossroads space and totally impressed by the sound quality, lighting, seating, crowd and organization of check in. This place refuses to provide free water, you have to pay for it even just for a cup of tap water. That's unacceptable and unsafe. I've never been to or worked at a bar that doesn't offer water for free. Hydration should be a basic courtesy and a safety standard in any establishment serving alcohol. read more

Hawaiian Brians shares a parking lot with the 24 Hour Fitness. Spots are tight and limited. Don't bring a big car; I highly recommend carpooling. Validation is found inside, just ask the gentlemen at the front for the sticker. Pay ticket before exiting, credit card only! The service was mediocre. The men checking IDs at the front weren't rude but at the same time, not outgoing and friendly. My friends that did order drinks said that the bartenders were alright. They were straight to the point. There are a lot of bouncers ensuring no foul stuff going on which was nice. The place itself is alright. It felt a bit dirty and ran down. Some of the doors in the women's bathroom don't fully close so I had to have a friend hold the door while I relieved myself. I would come back for darts and pools. read more

EXTREMELY RUDE BARTENDER. I can vouch for all of the reviews below. The lady wearing the striped shirt (whom I can only assume is Danielle) is an absolute Karen (and that's being nice). One of the dart machines wasn't working but there was no visible sign or anything indicating that. The machine ate our money and when we brought it up to Danielle, she had the audacity to respond with a smirk "you can try to play on it if you want" & "sorry but if the machine doesn't work, then we can't give you your money back." Those statements alone should shed light on what a poor establishment this place is. Avoid this bar at all costs. It's dingy, smelly, and the bartenders couldn't care less if you spent money or not. We got a table as per usual for me and my buddy. Our 2 friends came and checked in at the front with the bartender as usual. We played our game as per usual when a couple guys who id never met came over and talked with us for 10 -15 minutes, they didn't play pool or anything. Come to find out when we're checking out the bartender charged our card for them at 71 minutes on our table. Very shady and deceptive. If you're going to hold a card and start charging extra money for something you know they have no idea your charging them for, you need to walk the 10 feet over that we are and let us know. Hawaiian Brian's is a social atmosphere with music events and a bar. People talk to each other all the time. I work in service so I'm very aware that peeping around the corner and seeing people talking then proceeding to charge them extra money is unacceptable behavior in the service industry. The attitude from the bartender was "oh well they didn't check in with me". when they purchased their beers from her only a couple minutes ago is insane to me, they had a card down and somehow she charged ours extra for people we have never even met and I can only assume was hoping that we wouldn't notice. Very deceptive and arguably Illegal behavior. Was a regular who went 3-4 times a week spending thousands of dollars there over the years. They serve adult beverages and soft drinks. They're not bartenders, more like customer service workers. But, they do their best to satisfy the customers. They also have a small place where you can purchase food. This place holds a lot of different events at the same time. The parking can be very challenging when it is a busy night. Very cool venue for a show. The space is pretty open and you can see the performer from anywhere in the room. Reasonably priced tickets as well. Lots of liquor options, though not the full Hawaiian Brians drink menu in the show room. Love that the pool table area was still open during the show, I think it made it much less crowded in each room. I do wish Wild Orange would have been open too. Lost starts for a couple things. It got very hot in there. They had a few basic fans but really needed more as the night progressed. Biggest issue was that there were no bathrooms for half the show. Guards blocked the bathrooms and said there just were no bathrooms to use. Suggested we try the 24/hour fitness next door. Which we did, and were told absolutely not unless you were a member of the gym. Asked multiple staff what they were going to do and they had no answers. Eventually the bathrooms did open but in the men's they weren't allowed to flush and security ran in to confront anyone who did flush. Gross. read more

When I heard that 'Hawaiian Brians' upgraded their Sound System, I was confused because It was superb sound prior to the upgrade, so "Hawaiian Brians" SOUND SYSTEM is 'SUPERBLY AMAZING" NOW! and I have a Bachelor of Science in Music Engineering from The University of Miami. This is a place for nostalgia. The smell of the chalk and cigarettes but now with their new ac you don't have to worry about that. Price per person for pool is $5 per hour. Not sure about darts but they do have three games available. If you arrive after 9pm there is a lot more people looking to play billiards. From another night, they had a sick local cover band on a Saturday night named Holy Tiger (I believe that was their name lol). What is pretty cool is their speakeasy which requires a res behind the Aloha Maid vending machine. That is a Sep business so would be a different review to make. Pool tables are functional, the large ones are or look like the ones from two decades ago. They renovated this establishment for more concert venues. Therefore, I still support this place since they have live music. No more coined games like before. The drinks are watered down and there are still some decent public pool sticks to use. Bring cash for parking if you do park in their lot. Parking is shared with 24-hour fitness and Odori-Ko. The music area is a nice lounge. There is a popular place but they need more bartenders. Not sure if they were short handed but it's tough to see people work hard when it's a weekend evening. 21 and older only. Bags checked at front. You will also get waved by a metal detector before you enter. Security here are not jerks just the bartenders. I witnessed them snap at people who wait on the side for not getting in the line to see them. What would be helpful is if they had a sep line to check out for renting the pool tables. read more

First time coming into Hawaiian was great. Service and the security were super nice. Second time on Thursday night 12/19, bartender gave me attitude when I checked in for a pool table. My siblings came to pick me up, so when I went to check out, she charged me extra for my siblings because they walked up to the table and watched me play. This venue is pretty awesome offering a variety of different things to do. My group went to the pool area. They have a bar and darts here as well as ping pong. The drinks were cheap. It looks like they have a separate club for 18+ and a lot of young people lined up for that. So whether you're in the mood for games, drinks or just want to party this venue has it all. read more
