I can't tell you how many hundreds of times I've walked or drove past this place and never knew it was here. Friends and I have been playing pool more regularly and started branching out to new places for us. This is a great option for any billiards game in Honolulu; they have snooker tables, and pool tables of various regulation sizes. It's located next to Jack in the Box; there's a colorful sign on the door, simply press the buzzer for it to be unlocked to come inside. The main counter is on the second floor, and they have two big rooms filled with lots of tables and plenty of space between them. The clerk was super welcoming, he told us about the place and league nights; there's also a ground level area that's almost exclusively used by leagues. It's comfortable with bright lighting and an old Hawaii vibe to the place. It's also dry; they have a soda/water machine and a snack machine but otherwise no drinks or food. They have lots of cues to choose from, all kept in great shape. Play rates are reasonable about $6/hr per person; for three of us to stay and play a few hours was only $30 total. Velvet Touch Billiards is the spot if you want a chill, no-frills place to shoot pool. Super relaxed vibe, with tables spread across 2 floors - love that they split up the crowd like that. The crowd: older, chill, not rowdy. So don't go there acting a fool - this is far from Hawaiian Brian's. Pricing? Shockingly fair. Saturday night, 5 people, about 2.5 hours... $64 total. About $6/person/hour. Hard to beat. Use of their pool sticks and chalk is included. They don't serve food or drinks, but they've got vending machines. If you're like me and like to be prepared, bring a small cooler. They do allow outside food & drinks, NO alcohol tho, so don't get too excited... ;) Now the downfall: THE SMELL. From the moment you walk in, you'll catch that lingering cigarette aroma. Blah! If you're used to Vegas casinos, no big deal. Werewolf like me? I avoid casinos because of that smell, so... that's that. Oh and second downfall is that the tables aren't far enough apart, so you'll have to exercise proper etiquette throughout your entire game. Time does lapse when both tables are occupied beside you, especially if those people lack awareness... so, bring your patience! Parking is a little adventure. There's a tiny lot behind the building, and street parking nearby. First off, I've not seen a legit pool hall like this on any of the islands I've been to. It's possible I've missed them but I've looked at least on Oahu, Maui and Kauai. This is a spot for every level of player but serious players will be very pleased. A ton of tables, more than 10, all but one 9 footers, fantastic quality with tournament cloth on all. All Brunswick and diamond, with one that is something else, custom maybe. Balls were in almost new condition and perfectly polished.. best I've played with at a pool hall in I don't know how long. Open until 2am, everyone is super friendly and respectful and rates are amazing! I played for almost 4 hours and paid less than $25 with tip.. that does not happen anywhere, not even Des Moines, KC or SLC. Ambiance is exactly what you'd want from a legit pool hall and parking is plenty. There are vending machines, which are also very very reasonably priced.. almost grocery store prices. Oh my goodness. When we read that this was an old school pool room, I was hopeful. No disappointment. It is exactly that! Something I really miss from my early days. We were a little unsure on entering on a Thursday night, as the door was locked and someone had to come down and let us in and up the stairs. Great tables, nice house cues. Reasonable prices and some weeknight specials. Local players working on their game with some drills or playing some friendly sets. I recently started playing pool again and was glad to find Velvets just a short walk away. Like many I thought it was kind of sketchy at first but this is a really nice place to play. Lots of really nice people that I've meet and Warren the manager is always eager to help if you ask him. Velvets has 2 3 cushion tables, 2 Diamond tables and 2 Breton tables up front. 5 Brunswick tables, 3 Gandy tables, 1 Diamond bar table and a Chinese 8 ball table in the back. All are 9 foot tables except for the 3 cushion tables and bar table. They even have a set of snooker balls. They also hold a monthly 9 ball tournament on the last Sunday of every month. Velvets has parking but it can get full pretty quickly. Street parking on S. King street is plentiful. Prices are very reasonable compared to the mainland. One of a handful of pool halls left on Oahu. As of today (December 17, 2021) mask and proof of vaccination are required. read more

A hidden billiards location open til 2 am every night (discretion of owner as well). I went on a Sunday night around 10 pm and me and 2 other friends played for an hour. It is cheap. We played about an hour and it was under $11 for 3 people (so under $4 a person). The place has its own parking lot, it's upstairs, has about 15 billiard tables that are really nice. On a Sunday night it was quiet with about a total of 10 people max playing. They have specials on certain night. Monday nights is college nights. College students with ID pay 1/2 price for all regular tables from 7pm-11pm. Ladies night is Wednesday nights with 2 or more people of half price from 7pm-11pm. 9am to 2 pm tables 1-6 with snooker $4.50/hour/person while tables 7-14 with bar table is $4/hour/person 2pm-closing is tables 1-6 with snooker $6/hour/person While tables 7-14 with bar table is $5/hour/person Seniors over age 60 $1 discount per hour/per person Table with 3 people or more $1 discount per hour/per person. The parking lot can be a bit tight and if there are no spots, you can either double park (let the guy in front know!) or find street parking. It smells like cigarettes when you walk up the stairs but thankfully it disappears when you get to the top. Normally a table is always open but there are super rare times where you have to put your name down and wait for a table...ex. Wednesday nights where ladies play for free from 7PM-11PM and the wait varies since there's no time limit on a table so it all just depends how long you're willing to wait and how lucky you are. Great spot to come and play pool with friends. You pay by the hour (there are special prices depending on the day and time). It's definitely a "pool hall" so the vibe is a bit more serious - you get a lot of really good players here. There is no food or alcohol here but there is a vending machine. I'm not sure if you're allowed to eat here but I've definitely packed my bag with snacks and water before. These are all 9 foot tables with one or two coin operated 7 foot tables. Play the regulars if you get a chance. you'll learn so much and improve your game! Jerry (is it with a J or G... i'm not sure) is super nice, and up-keeps the place really well. he'll also play a game with you if you want. there is also a BILLIARDS table - not to be confused with a pocket billiards table. what is the difference? a regular billiards table does not have any pockets, and its only played with 3 balls..... give it a try. it will help you learn angles and cuts. there is only 1 billiard table, and about 9 regular pocket pool tables in the whole place. AND there are a few megatouch screen type games as well. the vending machine has some interesting snacks, so get your fill..... and it is also really close to Jack in the Box (you can eat inside as long as you don't make a mess and clean up after yourself). This was my first time going here and not bad for a billiards spot. We got there at like 11 something I think and there was like no one there. We was the only ones which was surprising cause id think people would be there at that time. Parking- it's kind of limited. It's also kine of small the stalls too. If you have like a big vehicle then you might have a hard time to get out. Price- I'm not sure how much it is but I just know that for me and my two friends it was only like $13. We played like 2.5 rounds lol so it's not that bad of a price tbh. Tables- there is ALOT of pool tables there. Not sure how much but there's like two rooms that connects and they have a lot of tables. If you want to have a night out and chill. Plus being on a budget then I'd recommend coming here. After finally finding parking my son and arrived at Velvet Touch Billiards on a Saturday,it takes some time to find this place located upstairs of a paint store.We came at about lunchtime and the lady at the front told us it will be a long wait because the regulars come and spend hours here practicing and to come back another day. My next visit here around lunchtime I had no problem getting a table in the back,in the front they have premium tables that regular players play mostly 9 ball and they are good players. In the back there are several tables, a few are taken and the first thing I noticed that the felt was kind of worn out and nearby tables that looked way better were empty but I was happy to be playing at Velvet Touch. I play here often enough and I am able to choose one of the better tables, I think I was known as a serious player and not some one who would treat the tables badly as I have seen at Brian's.I have read reviews about the unfriendly service by the attendant,but it is their way of screening the players,I play with my personal cue stick that serious players use. I thought I was a good player but watching other tables I saw skills I could not match.At my age I feel comfortable here and got to know the old timers who play here. I see on the walls pros I've seen on ESPN and could be playing on the same table that Clint Eastwood played on, and I love the music of classic rock they play here. My friends and I finally hung out together. But a late Sunday night, what else could be open? So one of my friend mentioned this place. On a rainy, dark night, it took us awhile to find this place. It's located right next to that Jimbo restaurant. Parking was small, kind of creepy. When we got in, the front area where there were 4 pool tables were empty. But that area was for pro leagues or something. So we went to the other room to play after talking to a lady at the counter. If you have 3 or more people, you pay $1 less. So we played for around an hour and paid $3 each person. Others who were playing seemed like high school student or maybe young college students. The room was bright. There were only 6 tables and some arcade games. I liked Hawaiian Brian's better because it's bigger and the lights are dimmed. It gives me a more fun feeling. I don't like people staring at me when I play pool because I'm not good. Haha. Velvet was too quiet. I used to go to Velvet's when it was around Restaurant Row area and it was pretty good there the pricing was cheaper than Hawaiian Brian's and the quality of the tables was pretty good too. Now that it's at this new location on King street it seems like things have gotten better. The facility looks nice and big, with lots of room for all the tables (including the actual Billiard table [those are the ones that don't have pockets, which is what most people are used to]). It is VERY CLEAN compared to Hawaiian Brian's Billiards, which is totally awesome. They have a couple of vending machines should you feel the need for a snack or a beverage while you are playing. They also have a few arcade games that you can play while you maybe waiting for a table. The only issue if any would be the parking is kind of sparse at times. I have always enjoyed coming to Velvets since high school. Their original location was in Kakaako area but now is here on S. King St. Parking here can be tough when coming at night. They are open late and have special prices on Monday for students and Wednesday for ladies. I enjoy coming here since the price is about $4.50 an hour at night for the regular tables. They also have premium (larger tables) for $5.50 an hour. This place is CASH only so make sure you have that. Parking is available at the small lot and four stalls are available in the garage connected to the parking lot. However, parking there is tight. The tables to the bathrooms are clean and maintained. You will see high schoolers to billiards coaches here. So the environment is great for enthusiasts to beginners. As cool note: music here is pretty good. I think they use a digital station. When you choose your pool stick, be sure the tip you hit with is not misshaped or flat. When you strike at the cue ball it will not go the direction you aim for. If you get parch or hungry there is a vending machine inside. The owner must smoke a lot bc as you enter the building through the stairs you will smell cigarettes; but of course, smoking is not allowed. If you need to find parking, I suggest using the designated areas on the street. The great thing is that parking is free at night. But the better thing is to carpool. read more

A fun way for three people to spend 2 hours for less than a $20 bill? Sounds good to me! Looked a bit sketchy at first, with a tiny, unsupervised parking lot. At the end of a concrete building with a door with what looks like a single painted word, "Velvets" on the glass, with a staircase leading upstairs, that's it. As you walk up, you smell cigarette smoke. Check in with the manager standing up high in a booth like at a Vegas casino, tell him how many people will be playing. (You get your table assignment first, and pay at the end of your visit.) Then you begin to play. The tables are in good shape. The A/C is nice and cool. The place turns out to be pretty clean. Somehow it doesn't smell smoky anymore. The other customers are chill, both the regular folks and the newcomers. Everyone seems welcome and comfortable here, no matter what their skill level. When you leave, the staff in the booth has kept track of the playing time and knows exactly how much each person owes, which is quite a feat with so many tables and players. I was hoping Yelp would allow zero star reviews now but they don't. First off, the owner was INCREDIBLY RUDE. Like straight up THE MOST DISRESPECTFUL POS I have ever seen. Mind you I have never met this guy in my entire life. Maybe he had a rough childhood or his parents beat him too much when he was young, idk...but as soon as I walked in he yelled at me to sanitize my hands, but there was no hand sanitizer where he was pointing. So I asked him politely where it was, and he yelled at me again to sanitize my hands. I looked around and found it behind the other side of the counter. He gave me the balls and I went to my table to start playing. A couple of my friends (one local Hawaiian and one African American) arrived about 5 mins after I got there and he wouldn't let them in because they didn't have a mask, even though I never had a mask from the beginning. After he FINALLY let them in after they rang the doorbell 3 fking times, he yelled at them too, telling them that if they didn't have a mask they need to get out. At this point I was like "fk it"and just left, but one of my friends were not having it and told him off. As a business owner, this is NOT how you should treat paying customers. Saw a friend check in here on fb so I yelped it to find out more info. I didn't know of any other places to play billiards beside Brian's. So when I found out about it, I wanted to check it out! First thought was yeah... what kinda name is this. The location looked sketchy as well. But once you get inside, that eerie feeling goes away... sorta.... I don't recall if Brian's was cheaper or maybe they're about the same price. I think not a lot of people know about this place because it's super small and located in a place in the middle of nowhere. When we entered, I thought we were the only ones there. But there were about 3 other groups playing in the other room. Compared to Brian's, I feel more at ease here... maybe cause it ain't dark and you can actually see the people around you lol. I admit it can get awkward with the quietness and sometimes you can hear the conversations from the table next to you, but whateverrr. They have benches and chairs which aren't that comfortable...but at least it's clean haha. I also noticed they had some arcade games and vending machines.
