My home was built in the late '70s, and the previous homeowners did nothing to rid the home of its original rockwhool insulation. The minuscule 6-8" of insulation that was once in my attic was ridden with rodent feces/urine, turning to dust, and wasn't as effective as it once was. This not only caused my home to have imbalanced heating/cooling, but also strained my HVAC system, making it work significantly harder than it otherwise would. Combine the lack of insulation with improper ventilation, and you set yourself up for a home that's not comfortable to live in, while in the process of taking precious dollars away from your pocket, all due to increased electric/gas bills. I called Energy Attic back in 2019 to see what they had to say about my attic, and they came out to do an energy audit. They filled me in on everything that was wrong, and what I could do to fix it. The estimate they provided was very insightful, breaking down the cost of every service, and allowing you as a homeowner to do what's best for your house and pocketbook. At the time I was unable to afford the job, so I decided to hold off on the project. Fast forward to early 2022, I gave them yet another call, and due to a mishap in getting the square footage of my home incorrect (was overestimated due to some vaulted ceilings), we decided to have them come back out to my house to give things a look. I spoke with their sales representative Mike for a decent amount of time, making sure I understood what was best. Mike's insight was incredibly valuable, and I ended up going with a whole host of things to improve my attic space: - Removing all old insulation - Sealing any air gaps - Spraying in fiberglass insulation to R49 (16") - Installing a radiant barrier - Upgrading existing fan with a solar fan Energy Attic ended up scheduling the job for the next week, and three of their employees ended up working for nine hours, knocking everything out of the park the same day. I've had a lot of contractors & such work on my home, and these gentlemen treated my home with dignity, cleaning up after themselves, and ensuring the job is done perfectly. Almost immediately I was able to notice the consistency in temperature throughout the home, and not just that, but also my HVAC system kicking on less. I'm stoked that the days of dealing with certain rooms being colder/hotter than others are gone, and my attic space can properly reflect any heat thrown at it away with the radiant barrier, and push any heat out that did get in with the solar fan, regardless of wind conditions outside. While a job like this is costly, making your home comfortable to live in year-round is very much worth it. I wouldn't hesitate to contact Energy Attic for any of your attic or HVAC needs. Their pricing was also extremely fair, literally coming in at half the price of at least one other competitor. Plus I have been in the HVAC industy 23 years so I understand R values and the importance of insulation for efficiency standards. Wally came out to look everything over and take measurements. He recommended that we top off the existing Rockwall insulation with 10" of new blown-in Rockwool Premium Plus, resulting in a new R value of R-40+ as there was nothing wrong with the existing so no need to remove it. Two man team came a couple weeks later, very professional and quickly blew in the new insulation, let me take a look in the attic to make sure it looked good, cleaned up and left. Even came back a week or so later to install an attic hatch for even better efficiency. Martha was who I dealt with the most via text and phone. She's very timely and will keep up with everything to make sure all goes smoothly. Just all around a great experience which seems to be lacking these days with many companies. I have been to 2 presentations. Bought the attic blankets…read moreand the solar power vents. All these items can be bought for less from different sellers. The attic blanket can be bought at Home Depot and installed by almost any half competent person that's not afraid of attics. The vents can be bought online and are exactly the same. The radiant barrier paint is available for under 400 for 5 gallons. The financing options they offer are worse than using a credit card. If you have a local handyman he can install all this for less than half the price. That said the blanket has helped stop radiant heat and the power vents are helping keep the attic cool. The paint has been made by many different manufacturers over the years. Not sure about the probiotic spray thing. If you are good paying more for them doing it for you and buying you a cheap dinner then go for it.

NRG Pros provided a very competitive estimate and I had a great comfort level with their level of competency after speaking with Loi. He confirmed the process that their team would be undergoing and gave me some tips on some other house issued that I have. Loi and his team kept me up to date on their progress and I went into the attic to confirm and was completely satisfied. They also went the extra mile making a few adjustments on my attic door enclosure, that was drooping down slightly. They were in and out in about 3 hours or so. We met with Matthew who indicated he was the owner and offered to have our small commercial project completed within a few months. 4+ months after a deposit of ~$40k and arduous back and forth with complete dishonesty at every turn (Matthew indicated plans were submitted to the city when the city had no record of any submission, indicated we would receive daily updates yet went weeks without hearing from him, indicated we would be able to work with someone from his office who would help us with permitting and rezoning and then later stated that is not something his company does... the list goes on unfortunately), we have a very expensive paint job that was not up to par (tape showing, it didn't look like it had been painted) and an email requesting more money. 7 weeks in when it appeared plans had not been submitted for permits, we reached out to Matthew who assured us that this was "such a small project" and no where near the "big, 2 million remodels he'd done" and that our July completion date was not in jeopardy. We are now past the "drop dead" date Matthew gave us that the project would be complete without even basic city approval. We recently learned that Matthew misrepresented himself and is not in fact the owner. We have reached out to the company to discuss Matthew's actions and our project and are hopeful that he is a contractor and there is some way forward, however, we have not received a response to date. We are hopeful that this will somehow be remediated, but sharing our experience in hopes that others do not go through the same.

So the problem I wanted to get addressed was that the exhaust pipe from my attic furnace was collecting condensation and causing a leak. 1. Initial Visit: A technician came out to diagnose the issue. He said that the pipe had to be replaced due to rust and the cap had to be added to the roof end of the pipe because it was completely missing. He charged me $3000 for replacing two sets of pipes. I thought it was expensive but went through with the transaction because of the high reviews on yelp. 2. Failed Service: On the scheduled date, technicians arrived but refused to replace the pipe because my roof was "too steep." I was told they would reschedule with a crew equipped and willing to work on steep roofs. 3. No Follow-Up: The company never rescheduled this service. I tried calling them multiple times but the only response I got was that they would call me back. (the customer service rep was kind and responsive) Do not use this company if you want reliable service or basic communication.

Sadly, the owner of Nick's passed away and this company is now owned by Dunrite. I called that company based on the reviews of Nick's Air Services, but their services has definitely NOT been the same as mentioned on this profile. In summary, this company is expensive, can make improper recommendations, and the office is very difficult to get anyone to call you back. I absolutely would not use them again in the future and - had I read their Yelp profile for Dunrite Heating & Cooling - would never have called them in the first place. My experience: My air conditioning due to leaked refrigerant due to another HVAC technician not correct. Nick's/Dunrite came out during the same day and quickly identified the problem. There was a leak on the schrader valve. They got us back to running - for nearly $200/per pound of refrigerant. 5 lbs = about $1,000. Wow, but we had no choice as my original installer was not available. Our unit has not been keeping up with the 90s for the past two months and the technician recommended 3 different options. I chose 2 of the 3 options: a larger return air duct AND repairing the plenum. I was anxious to get the work scheduled and it took me hounding them to get them to schedule the work. Communicating with this office was very painful. I would never get calls back and would just get a text message indicating when they had scheduled the appointment. Their front desk support was exceedingly helpful but not empowered to do anything besides schedule appointments and pass along info. I finally had the appointment and the technician went to the wrong address. I got a call from them saying they had been at my house and then they proceeded to the next job. I spoke to them and learned they were at the wrong house, but could not turn around to go back to my house. I had to wait until the following week to get the appointment rescheduled. What a disaster. It got worse. The work was finally done - the return air duct and the plenum. I waited a couple of days, but there was NO change in the air conditioning. I called them back again and they scheduled another technician to come out. The second technician came out, a more senior technician, who confirmed that the unit was undersized and "working as it was designed" to cool at 75-76. I don't know a single person who is comfortable with 75-76 in the house when the outside is in the 90s. I called customer service again. When I finally got someone, I got a call from William, who is their most senior technician (an older guys in his late-50s probably). He came out with the original technical and instructed him how to properly do a heat load calculation. They determined indeed the unit is undersized and I needed a 3 ton. I called back the customer service asking for a refund to the work. I've called at least 3-4 times, each time speaking with a very nice person. However, I've still not been called back. What a disaster. I've finally had to resort to filing a complaint with my credit card and disputing it through them. It's unfortunate and I didn't want to have to do this, but - when no one will call you back - it's very very hard to trust this company to make things right.
