Before we got to the stops - and while at the stops - Diane shared the individual histories of "why" these were such prominent stories in the Austin community. THE STOPS! I think something something about disappearing pastries (honestly, I can't remember because I was TOTALLY buzzed by this point, and all of Diane's 8-oz Pepsi's in the world weren't gonna help me!) If you are sensitive to the supernatural and paranormal experiences, your spider senses will DEFINITELY be tingling on this tour. To sum up, we got to meet ghosts (some of them "in person") at these stops as we intruded into their space. And at the Littlefield House, in particular, it felt like we were greeted! *Scooby Doo Gulp* LOGISTICS * Tour took three (3) hours. * We were picked up at 7:15pm, and tour ended just after 10:30pm, right back at our original pick-up location (actually right at MY car!) * Riding upright in a hearse isn't actually all that bad (though headroom is a BIT tight, since I imagine they aren't made for upright people). * We got TWO bottles of champagne, along with a cooler of sodas & waters. * For four (4) of us, cost averaged $80 each (Hearse could easily hold 6, perhaps more, so pro-rate that coast further down). But cost was well worth it for the unique, attentive, crazy, eclectic joy we derived from our truly unique experience. What an awesome experience! Our tour guide was Ally and we had the best time doing the midweek van tour. The stops were fun and each had their own history behind them, which really made our visit to Austin worthwhile. Our guide did an amazing job immersing us in the experience and of course, driving us around town (I think there were 10 people in all) and keeping us entertained with great stories. Other stuff: The van was pretty comfortable with plenty of A/C vents, which is VERY handy during Austin's hot and humid summer nights. They provided plenty of free beverages, which were greatly appreciated. Ally also did a great job at answering any questions we had about 1 of the stops or encounters they've personally experienced at the locations we visited. I would highly recommend doing this tour, even if you're not into ghosts or whatever, it's still a great experience to drive around Austin and get to know it's "dark side" a little. read more

Matthew was a great tour guide. Extremely knowledgeable about the sites we visited and always told a great story. He was very proactive about reminders and letting us know when and where he would be to meet up which was nice. Offering a choice of beverages was a great plus as well. I don't want to give away spoilers or the ghost stories of the night, but I will say BOOK YOUR TOUR! You won't regret it. We spent three hours with Jane and Jolene (the longtime hearse "passenger") and stopped at four haunted places. Jane's storytelling was "hang on every word" legit enthralling. We just went on the public hearse tour with Jane as our tour guide and she was AMAZING! The experience of riding in the hearse was a one in million experience that I would have never thought I could have while living lol. We stopped at really cool and interesting spots that gave me the creeps in the best way possible! Jane had tons of knowledge of each place we stopped at plus some really spooky personal experiences that gave me the chills!! Yes I jumped once in the attic and had to sing the happy song after getting the heebie-jeebies. We will definitely do this again when the family visits. read more

Count me in for fanciful stories of Austin history while standing inside of old buildings. Probably same standard tour every time so you only need to do this once. Wear appropriate clothes for weather as much of this is outside. Non-slip shoes that you can walk on uneven ground and up dark staircases would be helpful. Might want to read about the buildings mentioned in the other reviews so you can get more background before you go. The tour takes you to a lot of crowded restaurants and bars so if that's not your jam find another ghost tour or at least don't do it on a weekend night like I did. In each location we attended the staff was as excited to see her as we were to be there she truly knows this city, it's hauntings, and the people personally. You won't get a better tour anywhere else. The tour has a total of 4 stops and each has interesting stories. However, there isn't much general history on Austin which I would have liked and expected since it was a 3 hour tour. When I go on vacation I like to start with a tour because the tour guide will point out interesting parts of the city, but this tour doesn't do that, and it only focuses on the 4 planned spots. read more

Loretta was our tour guide and she was the best! Super knowledgeable, smart and great to be around. We loved being driven around in our own personal hearse, the drinks were good and I genuinely learned a lot about Austin history. We also had a weird situation where a strange man tried to get in our hearse. Loretta handled it like a bad ass-- told him he needed to leave and didn't back down. Can't recommend it enough. What better to do on a Rainey day than a Ghost Tour! We toured: The Driskill, The Clay Pit, The Little Field House & The Tavern!! Julia was our tour guide and she was wonderful! She's a theatre student so she is full of energy and enthusiast about giving the tour! It was just 2 of us so the tour lasted 2 hours. Bigger groups may go up to 3 hours. Just finished the private hearse tour with Sarah. The tour itself was fun and informative, with the added creepy factor of riding around in style in a white hearse, but Sarah was the cherry on top of the cake. She was very knowledgeable and engaging, but also extremely entertaining in her storytelling. The tour has several stops, with ample time spent at each spot, discussing the various inhabitants, as well as great photo-ops. This isn't a quick and done tour. We were out for almost three hours, talking about the darker aspects of Austin's history. Sarah also had quite a few photos taken by prior guests, and a bunch of personal stories at each location. The tour is BYOB, if you'd like, with some mixers and ice included... Water and soda to those not imbibing. There are also two stops along the way to grab something from the bar. I'm unsure of the exact experience in the van, but it does seem that each location is welcoming of Haunted ATX, in general, so we were allowed in employee only areas. I will say that if you have a small group (no more than about 4-5, the hearse is a bit... cramped for upright occupants), springing for the private tour is totally worth it. As for working with Haunted ATX, in general... they were very responsive after booking. We ended up wanting to add another couple to our two-person reservation. There was a typo in the email I had given them, so they called us directly and spent 30 minutes helping us update the reservation. We also had direct contact, via text, with our tour guide (the amazing Sarah!) early in the day to coordinate pick-up (available at many locations around town). We also have the ability to send her any pics we took that later had ghostly additions after the fact. We go on spooky tours at every city we visit, and this one is, by far, the best! The locations, the entertainment from the host, and the transportation were top notch! read more

We had a fantastic time! Loved that the group size stays fair small. Its a more intimate tour weather you do private or public. you don't have to worry about missing anything or not being able to hear the stories. we went inside all but 1 stop. the Littlefield house doesn't allow anyone in the house part of the building, so that's why we couldn't, but it was enough from the outside lol. Loretta was our tour guide and she was super fun and a great storyteller! the only recommendation I'd have is that they get some sort of microphone for the van ride to maybe be able to provide more stories between stops. It's really hard to hear when you're in the back of the van so it's a little isolating.
