A food tour is a must when visiting a new city so we went with Austin Eats Food Tour. I liked the tour and our guide but did not like the lack of walking and cuisine options. In their defense, the heat does play a factor but it was cooler during our visit plus we had three of the same cuisine types in a row during our tour so I was not a fan of that. In the end, I do recommend this company.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Excellent tour! No need for sneakers because there's a coach bus filled with goodies that take you from place to place. It's amazing! Joe was in training and did an excellent job. Keith was a pro and it was clear that he's passionate about Austin! I couldn't stop raving about this experience when it came to an end.

I was looking for something fun to do this weekend while visiting my son who lives in Austin, TX, and came upon the AUSTIN EATS FOOD TRUCK TOUR. That sounded like something really fun to do, so I signed up. Our tour guide was super friendly and kept the atmosphere fun. He made sure that everyone was comfortable and engaged throughout the tour. In fact, by the end of the tour, we had all made some new friends. In my opinion, our guide was a five-star host who went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The tour started on time. The van was comfortable and always prompt to take us to the next place. Our guide provided provided us a variety of beverages throughout the day which kept us well-quenched. In fact, I had to make a pit stop at La Barbecue, where I was delighted to find a super cool bathroom, with blinking lights and disco music! It was truly a unique experience. As for the food, the tour did not disappoint. We were given a variety of food from breakfast to dessert, including a brisket and cheese kolache from Kerlaches, sliced brisket and pulled pork from La Barbecue, and a fried chicken sandwich with curry from Spicy Boys. We also tried Industry's breakfast taco with salsa and a variety of brews from Zilkers. Finally, for dessert, I chose the salty caramel gelato from Dolce Neve Gelato. Although I didn't have enough experience at these restaurants to write a full review, my brief visit and taste test was 95% positive. Most of the food was absolutely delicious, and I had a great time trying new things. There was definitely more food than I could eat; in fact, I had to leave some. The tour guide did offer "doggie" bags to those who wanted them. There were long lines in front of several of the places, indicating how popular these places were. The plus for us being a tour is that we got to skip the lines. That was a bit hit! The only negative aspect of the tour was the initial confusion caused by an incorrect time in the confirmation email, but it was a minor issue that didn't affect our overall experience. I would highly recommend AUSTIN EATS FOOD TRUCK TOUR to anyone looking for a fun and delicious way to explore Austin's food scene. The tour changes its route on a regular basis, so I would definitely go back for another round. Overall, it was a great day filled with great food and lots of fun.

This review will not do justice to how incredible an experience we had with Austin Eats Food Tours! But I'll do my best. Myself and 3 friends did this tour on a hot and sunny Saturday afternoon as part of a bachelorette weekend. All together, the tour was about 12 people, so fairly small and intimate group. Overall I'd give our experience a 9/10 and here's why: Food: 8/10 - You'll indulge in some of the best food Austin has to offer in a short amount of time, so definitely come hungry. We had La Barbecue (all of our faves) and Spicy Bird at our first stop @ Zilker Brewery, Lazarus Brewery, Granny's Tacos and Easy Tiger. Most of us were full by the 2nd or 3rd food item, so you'll definitely be stuffed by the end. Service: 10/10 - Our tour guide was Joe and he couldn't have been nicer! He was also so knowledgeable. Made us all feel welcome from the very start. You can tell he loves doing this, and he's great at it! Dietary accommodations: I'm gluten free and someone else in the group was dairy free. I went into this tour thinking it would be impossible to eat everything, but Joe made sure I was able to find a substitution at each stop when necessary. I was able to fully indulge in the BBQ, had a substitution of papaya salad and tater tots at Spicy Bird, had the breakfast taco and mole taco on corn at Lazarus and Granny's respectively, and instead of having the French toast at Easy Tiger, I got a gift card for a gelato place down the street instead. Such a nice gesture! Value: 9/10 - All things considered, for the amount of food and alcohol (there were NA options avail at the each stop in case you don't partake) we had, I'd say it was worth the $99 pp. Probably saved about $20-30 or so between those and tips.

I have done a food tour one other time in Miami and had a great time . So I was very excited to do another one on my trip to Austin. I was with my best friend and her Aunt (who lives in Austin) and we had the best time ! Our tour guide was fun and very accommodating ! My friends aunt is gluten free and he made sure to tell her at each stop that it was okay for her to eat. I do not like carbonation in any of my drinks, and at each place he made sure he accommodate me, which I was not expecting and I ended up having one of my favorite drinks I have ever had. All the food and drink spots we stopped at were fantastic; and even better , my friends Aunt hadn't even been to any one of the places so she found some new good spots to go to. Since I absolutely loved Austin, I will be coming back to visit and definitely be doing another food tour with Austin Eats ! Can't wait!

Sweet ride for the BBQ Brunch & Brews tour

The overall experience was neat and also nice to have someone explain some Austin history, while not having to worry about driving yourself or standing in line. I did the BBQ Brunch and Brews tour which started at Lazarus Brewing. Phenomenal place which I could've stayed at all day. The beer was amazingly good (you got 2 small pours), and the chorizo breakfast taco was amazing! After that we did Kerlich BBQ, which I thought was alright (I'm not a BBQ fan) but the kolaches were to die for! We had a super fancy, very cold tour bus that we rode on that had some beer, cider, water and soda on. I wish there was more, as people seemed to be fighting for water and a group of frat boys drank most of the beer. We hit up Hightower, which honestly I didn't care for at all. I didn't think the chicken and waffles were any good (super salty and funky, maybe old tasting). When I asked what kind of beer they had the waitress just said "IPA, Hefen..." I kinda want to know what brands since there's some I don't like. We topped that off with legit gelato at Gemelli and finished with 2 small pours at Zilker Brewing (very good beer). I would definitely try one of these tours again as Sheena our tour guide was fantastic- very friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable. I wasn't a fan of the food in general (minus the gelato- yum), and there wasn't as much beer tasting as I expected/wanted. But I guess I'll have to try the happy hour one. Definitely worth a go to explore new places around aust

I also added the beverage option with our reservations.* This was our first time visiting Austin, Texas and we thought this would be a good way to learn about it. We were not disappointed. Benjamin was our tour guide. He was at all times prompt, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable about Austin and the wonderful restaurants he was showcasing. The foods we tasted were fresh and delicious! Our drink option included alcoholic drinks, but a couple of us requested "mocktails" instead and Benjamin was happy to accommodate our request. Each food and drink were perfectly paired. Benjamin also pointed out the history and sights around Austin and our walk was at a comfortable pace. Greatly enjoyed our afternoon and we highly recommend Secret Food Tours Austin. * I am glad I booked two weeks ahead of our stay. We had a group of six plus our tour guide, Zack. Before we started, he let us know what our itinerary was for the day which included six different meal items during a three hour tour. (Cue Gilligan Island theme song). We walked around the Fareground food hall before going to our first stop at Veracruz for migas tacos, which are breakfast tacos stuffed with scrambled eggs, tortilla chips, onions, jalapenos and cheese. This was my first migas tacos so it was a great way to start our tour. We walked along the Congress Street bridge and Zack told us about activities around the river and told us about the different sections of Austin. As we walked, he would point out landmarks in downtown where we could find live music, comedy clubs, speakeasies and karaoke. Our second stop was at Cooper's Barbecue, where we got to enjoy amazing brisket along with beans and sweet tea. Zack also gave us instructions on how to order and the proper etiquette when ordering for barbecue joints. After eating such a heavy meal, we walked around quite a bit before our next stop for refreshing smoothies. Our fourth stop was to enjoy Tacos El Pastor. We made a complete circle and made it back to the Fareground food court for our last two items. The fifth item of the day were pork arepas, and we finished off our tour with caramel cheesecakes. The amount and quantity of the food we received was above and beyond what I expected. I've been to numerous food tours where the food was sometimes lacking. That was not the case with our tour. I loved the ease in which Zack told us about different locations and shared with us his favorite spots in Austin. I think a group of six was just the perfect size to be able to leisurely do the walking tour . We enjoyed getting to know the two couples on the tour with us. I would highly recommend Secret Tours and Zach specifically.

Scrambling at the very last minute, I scoured Trip Advisor for a similar experience, and found Austin Detours. The tour was about to start, so I ran (yes, ran) through the 90+ degree Texas heat to arrive on time. My guide, David, was incredible, very interesting to listen to, and took us all around Austin. I really felt like I attained a better understanding for the city. He even took our picture at different spots, and the sweet treat was delightful. The only thing I didn't love was that the elder couple on the tour with me rambled about their political leanings, which I didn't agree with at all and I struggled to keep my mouth shut, but David did such a good job of delicately leading them off the topic on multiple occasions. Their tour is super reasonably priced, a value, really. I'd recommend them to anyone visiting Austin for the first time.

Why in the hell do people not tip tour guides? I can see if they suck, or the trip sucked... but neither of these things were true about this trip. Shame on all of the tight people who were in this trip with us. And shame on you if you can't give a few bucks to your tour guide! (End bitch session) As most tours, what can make or break a tour is the guide. In this case, ours was great! I apologize that I can remember her name, but I did attach a picture. So if you get her, you'll be entertained, informed and happy when the tour is finished! On our vacation we also did a similar (but larger) trip in San Antonio, and this one (Austin) was way better. I'm sure the City of Austin would say it's because Austin is more interesting, which may be true! But I'll say the small group and fun guide made this the winner.

We really were looking forward to this, and specifically came to Austin for tubing (versus the other idea for a trip we had which was the beach. In hindsight, we should've flown to California instead. No one would be able to forget us that way.) Other companies had their groups successfully picked up and whisked away by their tour vans. (austin detours was one). We flew here and bought a 12 pack for 2 of us and ended up lugging around cans of beer through downtown Austin for no reason. If our trip was a little bit longer this might be less disappointing. However, I couldn't recommend this company. Unless you wanted to wait an hour for zero reason at all. At least if I booked Austin detours I'd be on the river. It just makes me so sad thinking about the multiple groups of us sitting around at that bar waiting for essentially no reason and no communication. Do not. Book. The river raft.

Drove around for far longer than I wanted to admit, and ended up parking up on 10th street. No problem, the weather was chilly, but nice in the sun, and much to see during the walk down to Van Zandt. Got there a bit early, so we explored Rainy Street as well. I must say, Rainy definitely got my appetite going! Check-in was simple: you walk into the hotel, get scanned in, get a wrist band and bag, join the line, and once 3:00 hits, up the stairs you go. There's no map nor instructions; you really just walk around and choose how you want to experience the event. My take on the experience overall was that it was simply controlled chaos. It was a dense crowd, and a lot of shoulder rubbing, but everyone there was super nice and really just there for a good time. And good times were had. 16 competing chefs, plus drink and cheese stations galore! The food was excellent and our favorites included the dishes from Banger's, Black's, and Juliet. And although not part of the competition, Contigo's smoked leg of lamb was so good, and deserved votes as well! As for the drinks, we loved the gin and tonic from Roxor. We also managed to get to the front of the pack to watch the butcher demo from Salty Sow's Chef Marmulstein. He definitely knows his stuff and gave a captivating presentation. In the end, my stomach was near exploding and pretty much had to skip dinner. The event was super fun, so very Austin, and highly recommended! Some tips for next time. Don't rush! None of the stations ran out of food. Also if you're here with a friend, maybe share the first round of samples and go for seconds at the ones you liked the most. That way, you get to sample more non-lamb dishes and won't walk out two pounds heavier.
