Holy grail of Austin BBQ is what this tour takes you on. No lines, behind the scenes stories and Kareem El-Ghayesh of KG BBQ as a tour guide. 100% delicious BBQ perfection for this recent Austin transplant.

We had a fabulous time with our guide Codi! We had some family visiting from out of town and can't wait to take more visitors on this tour next time. Each stop did not disappoint, and learning about their stories made it more special. Don't worry, there's To Go box options because you're gonna need it with all the delicious food to try! Having the transportation available was so helpful to cover all the spots in one day, made it helpful for someone who is in town for a short time.

The Quintessential Texas Hill Country Day Out!…read more If you're looking for the perfect blend of Texas hospitality, smoky BBQ, and scenic vineyard views, look no further than the Austin Detours Hill Country BBQ & Wine Shuttle. I recently took this tour in February, and it was the highlight of my weekend (as I'm a local). Whether you are a local hosting out-of-towners or looking for a professional team-building outing, Austin Detours provides a seamless, stress-free way to experience the best of Central Texas. 5/5 recommend! Our day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met our driver, Luke, who was fantastic throughout the trip. We hopped into a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter van for a smooth 40-minute drive out to the hills. One of the best parts of these tours is the people you meet. Our group included travelers from Ontario and Brazil, and it was wonderful swapping stories about their first impressions of Texas while we cruised toward our first stop. We started strong at this legendary BBQ spot - The Salt Lick. After placing our orders for some of that famous fall-off-the-bone brisket, we took a quick walk over to Salt Lick Cellars to grab some wine. Pro tip: Salt Lick is BYO, so being able to grab a bottle right there to pair with the BBQ is a game changer. Next up was Driftwood Estate Winery which was pure relaxation. We grabbed a bottle, found a spot under a massive oak tree, and just took in the incredible Hill Country views. Our new international friends joined us after their tasting, and the conversation was just as good as the wine. Our final stop at Fall Creek Vineyards was originally meant for a formal tasting, but the interior was buzzing and a bit loud. Since the Texas weather was doing us a massive favor -- sunny and nearly 80°F in February! -- the group opted to buy a few bottles and head outside to the fire pit. It was the perfect way to wind down. The drive back to the Austin Visitor Center flew by. We were all chatting, sharing snacks, and enjoying a final beverage in the van. A few things to keep in mind: The $69 price is for the expert guide and transport. You'll want to budget about $35 for BBQ and $10-$25+ for wine tastings/bottles. The Vibe was incredibly flexible. Whether you want to do a formal tasting or just split a bottle by a firepit with new friends, the pace is up to you.

I also added the beverage option with our reservations.* This was our first time visiting Austin, Texas and we thought this would be a good way to learn about it. We were not disappointed. Benjamin was our tour guide. He was at all times prompt, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable about Austin and the wonderful restaurants he was showcasing. The foods we tasted were fresh and delicious! Our drink option included alcoholic drinks, but a couple of us requested "mocktails" instead and Benjamin was happy to accommodate our request. Each food and drink were perfectly paired. Benjamin also pointed out the history and sights around Austin and our walk was at a comfortable pace. Greatly enjoyed our afternoon and we highly recommend Secret Food Tours Austin. * I am glad I booked two weeks ahead of our stay. While there are a lot of slots available, most of them were already booked!

We had a group of six plus our tour guide, Zack. Before we started, he let us know what our itinerary was for the day which included six different meal items during a three hour tour. (Cue Gilligan Island theme song). We walked around the Fareground food hall before going to our first stop at Veracruz for migas tacos, which are breakfast tacos stuffed with scrambled eggs, tortilla chips, onions, jalapenos and cheese. This was my first migas tacos so it was a great way to start our tour. We walked along the Congress Street bridge and Zack told us about activities around the river and told us about the different sections of Austin. As we walked, he would point out landmarks in downtown where we could find live music, comedy clubs, speakeasies and karaoke. Our second stop was at Cooper's Barbecue, where we got to enjoy amazing brisket along with beans and sweet tea. Zack also gave us instructions on how to order and the proper etiquette when ordering for barbecue joints. After eating such a heavy meal, we walked around quite a bit before our next stop for refreshing smoothies. Our fourth stop was to enjoy Tacos El Pastor. We made a complete circle and made it back to the Fareground food court for our last two items. The fifth item of the day were pork arepas, and we finished off our tour with caramel cheesecakes. The amount and quantity of the food we received was above and beyond what I expected. I've been to numerous food tours where the food was sometimes lacking. That was not the case with our tour. I loved the ease in which Zack told us about different locations and shared with us his favorite spots in Austin. I think a group of six was just the perfect size to be able to leisurely do the walking tour . We enjoyed getting to know the two couples on the tour with us. I would highly recommend Secret Tours and Zach specifically.

It was even better than I imagined. I'm no huge "Elf" fan, but after several Palomas, Buddy's schtick was about the funniest thing I had ever seen. I also looooooooooved the dancing up on deck. We lucked out and had a lovely Austin afternoon on the water. The music was a solid mix of 90s throwback dance tunes, and the whole atmosphere was silly and lighthearted and happy. The food was very good, too -- pizza from Via 313, bfast tacos and a candy buffet. We ended our cruise with a special surprise from Buddy -- Santa had gifted us all with jewelry from Kendra Scott! I don't know how often that happens, but I love random surprises. And the retail price of those gifts was more than what we paid for our brunch experience. Score! What a memorable day! I can't wait for the next one.
