Austin Detours saved my day. I had booked another tour provider for one my one full day in Austin, and for the first time in my life, I was stood up. Scrambling at the very last minute, I scoured Trip Advisor for a similar experience, and found Austin Detours. The tour was about to start, so I ran (yes, ran) through the 90+ degree Texas heat to arrive on time. My guide, David, was incredible, very interesting to listen to, and took us all around Austin. I really felt like I attained a better understanding for the city. He even took our picture at different spots, and the sweet treat was delightful. The only thing I didn't love was that the elder couple on the tour with me rambled about their political leanings, which I didn't agree with at all and I struggled to keep my mouth shut, but David did such a good job of delicately leading them off the topic on multiple occasions. Their tour is super reasonably priced, a value, really. I'd recommend them to anyone visiting Austin for the first time. read more

We did the "Best Small Group Driving Tour" through Austin Detours and had a great time. Would highly recommend. Before I continue..... I have to get on my pedestal! Why in the hell do people not tip tour guides? I can see if they suck, or the trip sucked... but neither of these things were true about this trip. Shame on all of the tight people who were in this trip with us. And shame on you if you can't give a few bucks to your tour guide! (End bitch session) As most tours, what can make or break a tour is the guide. In this case, ours was great! I apologize that I can remember her name, but I did attach a picture. So if you get her, you'll be entertained, informed and happy when the tour is finished! On our vacation we also did a similar (but larger) trip in San Antonio, and this one (Austin) was way better. I'm sure the City of Austin would say it's because Austin is more interesting, which may be true! But I'll say the small group and fun guide made this the winner. read more

What a pleasure. Booked the Austin Live Music Crawl with low expectations for our wedding anniversary. Finished wishing for more, delighted with the total experience. Joey served as our tour guide and demonstrated the perfect balance involving wit, tour knowledge and his guest's desires. Honkey-tonks visited were the White Horse, Donn's Depot and The Continental Club, each different yet all top-notch. Old-school country music was performed and danced to at White Horse. The original Donn Adelman and The Station Masters held court in his quirky, fun combo piano bar and honkey tonk. Finally at the Continental, we sat and listened to outstanding blues. I was in Austin for QuiltCon but wanted to take a city tour before I left. The only one I found that fit my schedule was an Art Tour which I thought would let me see some of the artsy neighborhoods. As it turned out, I was the only one who had booked for a Monday morning. Not only did they not cancel, but I got a one-to-one tour. It was fantastic! I came away with a real appreciation for the type of "town" that Austin is from that tour, not just the inside of the Austin Convention Center. I was in town for a few days playing tourist and was able to enjoy two tours with Austin Detours. I started with a live music tour which took us to 3 different spots in different parts of town with different music. Jax was our guide that night and was wonderful. Two days later I took the breakfast taco tour with Joey and that was equally terrific. I got really lucky that day as the others in the tour no showed so I had a private tour and got to learn a lot more about the food and stories of Austin. My friends and I joined Austin Detours through a travel agency on the last day of our trip to Austin. We met Marty and Tray at the visitor center and instantly felt welcomed for our BBQ and wine tasting tour! Our group was small and Marty was very accommodating with getting us back to downtown to catch our flight home. On the drive, Marty shared stories and knowledge of the bats under Congress bridge and the history of Salt Lick. After our delicious meal at Salt Lick, Marty was able to get us access to the pit for photos. Our 2 wine tasting stops were awesome. We took the Austin Small Group Driving tour today with Ike. It was so enjoyable, informative, fun and even delicious (Ike treated us to cookies from a food truck). The van was comfortable and we learned so much about Austin as Ike drove us through the neighborhoods. Carter who is new with the company rode with us, too, and added more detail. Both Carter and Ike were friendly, fun and knowledgeable. The tour included a stop at the Capital building where we walked the grounds and went in the building. I did the Real Austin tour with Rose and the art tour with Chris. It was actually Rose's first solo tour and she was amazing at including everyone, keeping it interactive, and maintaining interest even though it was freezing. Most tours in other places just kind of lecture you but she was definitely more of an inviting conversationalist :) with Chris i was actually the only person that signed up for the tour so I got a more personalized view of Austin street art haha. His passion is obvious when he explains the stories behind the art and i learned soo much.
