Very Disappointing Experience…read more I was really looking forward to The Golden Girls pop-up at Wanderlust Wine Company. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing like what I had seen from the pop-ups in other cities. The biggest disappointment was how little there actually was to the experience. The kitchen table wasn't even there. The girls famously gathered around that table eating cheesecake. Blanche's bedroom was completely outside in a completely different building, which made the whole setup feel disconnected. Even the wall phone, which was supposed to have the girls talking did not provide the experience I had seen from Instagram reels from other cities. Then came the cocktails. At $16 each, I expected them to at least be made correctly. My Blanche Devereaux cocktail was made with club soda instead of Sprite. Club soda tastes like Alka-Seltzer. I had to ask for a different drink. The second cocktail, The Dorothy, was made with Prosecco and unfortunately wasn't good either. Even the one lady sitting at this isolated bar with me said her drink was bad too. They double charged me. Which is another major issue. My ticket was $23.34 including taxes and fees and the complimentary drink was supposed to be included, with only a one-cent charge when I arrived. Instead, I was charged an additional $23.08, including $11.54 for the drink that was supposed to be included in the ticket price. Is there an explanation? Will this be corrected? My credit card company has already been notified. But what a hassle I have to go through. Just scan my QR code, and don't charge me .01 cent. I paid my ticket and "free" drink. Also as a solo guest, I was also extremely uncomfortable with where I was seated. I was placed away from everyone else at a very narrow bar along the wall, completely isolated from the rest of the group. Honestly, it felt like being sent to the kids' table at Thanksgiving--off in another room away from the adults. It was humiliating and made an already disappointing experience even worse. The entire experience amounted to roughly 15 minutes of taking a few pictures, drinking a poorly made cocktail, and leaving. For what I paid and what was advertised, I expected something much more immersive and fun. I couldn't wait to leave. Thank God I didn't pay for parking. I'm extremely disappointed. I went in excited to celebrate one of my favorite shows and left feeling like I had wasted my time and money. Based on this experience, I would not return to Wanderlust Wine Company.

We followed all of the instructions, including being ready to check in at 10:30 at BBG's. A group of about 10 of us stayed there until 12pm and called it. Absolutely ridiculous. Multiple phone calls to the tour company with no response. I hate to leave bad reviews but this was so disappointing. We really were looking forward to this, and specifically came to Austin for tubing (versus the other idea for a trip we had which was the beach. In hindsight, we should've flown to California instead. No one would be able to forget us that way.) Other companies had their groups successfully picked up and whisked away by their tour vans. (austin detours was one). We flew here and bought a 12 pack for 2 of us and ended up lugging around cans of beer through downtown Austin for no reason. If our trip was a little bit longer this might be less disappointing. However, I couldn't recommend this company. Unless you wanted to wait an hour for zero reason at all. At least if I booked Austin detours I'd be on the river. From the moment we started, they made us feel welcome and gave us a fun, relaxed way to experience the local Austin that you don't always find on your own. We went from honky tonks to some seriously cool Southern California surf music, experiencing different venues, sounds, and personalities along the way. Jax extremely knowledgeable, personable, and clearly passionate about Austin and its music culture. And having Brad behind the wheel made the entire evening easy and stress-free we could enjoy the music, the atmosphere, and the experience without worrying about getting from one venue to the next. What really stood out was the genuine Southern hospitality from both of them. The bus drive interactions between all the passengers discussing favorite concerts was a good ice breaker. They made the tour feel less like a typical sightseeing experience and more like being shown around Austin by friends who know all the good spots. If you want to get beyond the typical tourist experience and discover what makes Austin the Live Music Capital of the World, I highly recommend Austin Detours. The only thing I didn't love was that the elder couple on the tour with me rambled about their political leanings, which I didn't agree with at all and I struggled to keep my mouth shut, but David did such a good job of delicately leading them off the topic on multiple occasions. Their tour is super reasonably priced, a value, really. I'd recommend them to anyone visiting Austin for the first time.

We booked a full-day wine tour this past weekend for my best friend's Bachelorette Party. We were just a small group but it could not have been more perfect! Mike Lawsage picked us up in a limo and off we went on a day of tastings. We let Mike determine our selection of wineries and we were so glad we did! He did an amazing job--each location had beautiful scenery and wonderful wines. But we all came away feeling like the best part of the tour was Mike himself! He was such a great host and really took care of us. He even brought out his guitar and sang us a few tunes as we were winding down the day. It could not have been a more perfect end to our weekend together. As we were recapping our girls weekend together, every single one of us listed this wine tour as the highlight of the weekend, and that's sayin' something! Thank you Mike for making us feel extra special and for making our dear sweet friend feel like the luckiest bride-to-be there was. We can't wait to do another tour with you again soon! read more

We had the perfect Bachelorette weekend thanks to Discover Texas Wine Tours. One of the area wineries recommended Discover Texas Wine Tours and after spending a day with Cathy we completely understand why they were recommended. The door to door service in the beautiful, clean and roomy Mercedes Benz van made travel through the hill country delightful. The attention to detail, from the extra extra long auxiliary cord to play our own music in the van, delicious box lunches and the beautiful pictures that were taken and shared with us at the end of our trip made the whole day one we will never forget. We can't say enough positive things about this tour company and the services they provide. We have recommended them to our friends and plan on booking with them again when we are back in the area. Had a fantastic time celebrating my upcoming retirement with seven of my good friends yesterday. Even though it was Friday, the 13th with drizzly cold rain, our spirits were high as we toured 3 wineries around the Dripping Springs area in comfort & style. Our driver, Waylon was the ultimate gentleman, pretending not to hear our whoops and hollers as we made our stops for wine tasting and the most delicious Italian lunch imaginable. He was ready and waiting to deliver us safely to each stop and allowed us to sip & linger as long as we wanted. Depending on how many people you have and what kinda of car you want, they will tote you around in a shuttle bus, a limo, or even a stretch hummer. They will let you bring ungodly amounts of food and booze on the bus or limo and you can get as loud and unruly as you want, as long as you don't puke in the vehicle. Last year got a little rowdy and alll the girls ended up pole dancing in the shuttle bus! We always bring party trays of sammiches, cheese n crackers, and lots of easy to drink beverages, like box wine or premade mixed drinks. We have them pick us up at my house at 10 am and they bring us back at 6. And in that time we are usually able to visit 5 wineries. When you call to set this up, talk to Bob. He will visit with you on the phone for a long time, finding out where you want to go and making recommendations on new places. He is a real sweetheart. The drivers have always been very helpful also in recommending places and in general by putting up with our drunken behavior i.e. pulling the limo into a convenience store to pee several times in route...... One more kindness they extended to me this year. We had reserved the airport shuttle style bus again as we had 10 people on our tour and low and behold pulling up in front of my house was the stretch hummer. I was a little nervous about a mixup but they said not to worry, the bus had a flat that morning so we just got upgraded....now that thing was pimped out! Blue running lights inside, nice stereo system (I bring my own cd's), and glasses and cups lining the backs of the seats. Only problem with the hummer is it is kinda difficult to get in and out of for older people or anyone with a gimpy leg. Only 2 back doors and a steep step down. This would be great for any party, bar hopping, driving up for a wedding (forget about a limo! This will make a statement!) or any event that you want to be sure to smile so hard your face hurts after. I'm definitely doing this again! Thank you! WAPPING 5 STARS!

Great event, with lots of food and drink options. Nice to be able to interact with the chefs and…read moretheir team to hear how they came up with their dishes. It's impossible to leave this event hungry. Good selection of wine, most of they I never of. I broadened my knowledge and will be on the lookout for them at the store. FatIce's ice cubes were incredible, especially if you paired them with some Garrison Brothers. Overall a great foodie event, but they do need to add more tables to make it easier to enjoy the food and drinks without spilling.

First time at Lamb Jam and it was incredible! But let's start at the beginning…read more Trying to find parking in Austin downtown is never fun. Drove around for far longer than I wanted to admit, and ended up parking up on 10th street. No problem, the weather was chilly, but nice in the sun, and much to see during the walk down to Van Zandt. Got there a bit early, so we explored Rainy Street as well. I must say, Rainy definitely got my appetite going! Check-in was simple: you walk into the hotel, get scanned in, get a wrist band and bag, join the line, and once 3:00 hits, up the stairs you go. There's no map nor instructions; you really just walk around and choose how you want to experience the event. My take on the experience overall was that it was simply controlled chaos. It was a dense crowd, and a lot of shoulder rubbing, but everyone there was super nice and really just there for a good time. And good times were had. 16 competing chefs, plus drink and cheese stations galore! The food was excellent and our favorites included the dishes from Banger's, Black's, and Juliet. And although not part of the competition, Contigo's smoked leg of lamb was so good, and deserved votes as well! As for the drinks, we loved the gin and tonic from Roxor. We also managed to get to the front of the pack to watch the butcher demo from Salty Sow's Chef Marmulstein. He definitely knows his stuff and gave a captivating presentation. In the end, my stomach was near exploding and pretty much had to skip dinner. The event was super fun, so very Austin, and highly recommended! Some tips for next time. Don't rush! None of the stations ran out of food. Also if you're here with a friend, maybe share the first round of samples and go for seconds at the ones you liked the most. That way, you get to sample more non-lamb dishes and won't walk out two pounds heavier.
