On our recent trip to Austin we thought it would be fun to have a different activity, so we booked a wine tour on the Saturday. I had no idea what to expect from Texas wine, but I was honestly pleasantly surprised. The day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met with our tour guide and other guests. Then we hopped on our sprinter van and headed about 40 min outside of town to start our tour at Driftwood Winery. I really enjoyed the wines and we ended up purchasing a bottle to enjoy along the tour. Next, we went to Fall Creek Vineyards. This setting was beautiful, but I didn't love the wines as much. I did love that they had plenty of snacks so you could make your own charcuterie board. Snacks are a must when drinking wine all day. Last, we ended closer to the city in the St. Elmo District at Austin Winery. The tour is about $70 and then you pay for your wines at each stop. I had a fabulous time with our tour guide and tour mates. Would reccomend this if you're looking for a day excursion in Austin. read more

I recently took this tour in February, and it was the highlight of my weekend (as I'm a local). Whether you are a local hosting out-of-towners or looking for a professional team-building outing, Austin Detours provides a seamless, stress-free way to experience the best of Central Texas. 5/5 recommend! Our day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met our driver, Luke, who was fantastic throughout the trip. We hopped into a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter van for a smooth 40-minute drive out to the hills. One of the best parts of these tours is the people you meet. Our group included travelers from Ontario and Brazil, and it was wonderful swapping stories about their first impressions of Texas while we cruised toward our first stop. We started strong at this legendary BBQ spot - The Salt Lick. After placing our orders for some of that famous fall-off-the-bone brisket, we took a quick walk over to Salt Lick Cellars to grab some wine. Pro tip: Salt Lick is BYO, so being able to grab a bottle right there to pair with the BBQ is a game changer. Next up was Driftwood Estate Winery which was pure relaxation. We grabbed a bottle, found a spot under a massive oak tree, and just took in the incredible Hill Country views. Our new international friends joined us after their tasting, and the conversation was just as good as the wine. Our final stop at Fall Creek Vineyards was originally meant for a formal tasting, but the interior was buzzing and a bit loud. Since the Texas weather was doing us a massive favor -- sunny and nearly 80°F in February! -- the group opted to buy a few bottles and head outside to the fire pit. It was the perfect way to wind down. The drive back to the Austin Visitor Center flew by. We were all chatting, sharing snacks, and enjoying a final beverage in the van. A few things to keep in mind: The $69 price is for the expert guide and transport. You'll want to budget about $35 for BBQ and $10-$25+ for wine tastings/bottles. The Vibe was incredibly flexible. On March 26, 2024, I took the Hill Country BBQ & Wine Shuttle with Austin Detours. The meeting point was the Austin Visitor Center at 10:30 am. The Austin Visitor Center has restrooms, other tour information, great staff, and many souvenirs. At the Visitor Center, one of the information representatives informed us that our tour guide was running a little late due to traffic. About 10:40 am, our tour guide, Avery welcomed us and checked us in. Two days prior to our tour, I had received a waiver to complete. If you don't complete it then, you'll have the opportunity to complete it on the day of the tour. Avery made sure everyone had signed a waiver. She walked us to the Mercedes van and asked all of us to introduce ourselves. The van was full. On our way to Salt Lick BBQ, she provided history of landmarks and gave us the menu to look at. At Salt Lick BBQ, Avery walked us to a table that we shared as a group and got separate checks. Salt Lick Cellars is next door and you could pickup local wine and beer. Currently, they are not offering wine tastings. After eating some very DELICIOUS BBQ, Avery met up with us and offered to help take pictures of us in front of the BBQ pit. Next, we got back to the van and headed across the street to Fall Creek Vineyards - Driftwood. At Fall Creek Vineyards, our group sat at a table in the covered porch deck and had a choice of tastings or purchasing a bottle. Many of us chose the seasonal tasting of 5 wines. Tastings are $25 per person. One couple chose to purchase a bottle and they were able to roam the grounds. We were able to roam the grounds after the tastings. Then, we went to Duchman Family Winery. Here, we had the option to do tastings as well in their tasting room. Tastings are $20 per person and we tasted 6 wines. After the tastings, Avery gave us a tour of the production area. The shuttle returned to the Austin Visitor Center around 3:00 PM. Avery was a wonderful driver and guide. The group I was with was also amazing. We really bonded and felt like we were a family. I had an astonishing time. Note for this tour, it only includes the driver and transportation to the different stops. You have to purchase your own food and wine tastings if you choose to do so. read more

We did the Live Music crawl through Austin and it was such a great way to show off the city to Austin and non-Austin residents. Only downside is the quick transitions between venues which was perfectly reasonable given we wanted to see more of the city. Conner was a great guide who understood what our group was wanting (networking/celebratory event). He would hop on the mic to give us context on what we were driving past but otherwise he jammed out with us in the bus on the way to the next stop. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

I have 4 words - IKE IS THE BEST! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our wine tour with Ike to start our honeymoon. We started off at the Austin Visitor Center and went in a tour bus to Duchman Family Winery, Driftwood Estate Winery, and Fall Creek Winery. Ike chatted with us throughout the ride and offered very helpful advice not only with recommendations for our wine tastings, but also on things to do in the city! We took him up on several of his suggestions and had a wonderful time. As for the wineries - these were excellent picks. We loved the chance to explore some of the local Texas wineries and they all had scenic views. The staff were all very knowledgeable on the types of grapes across Texas and what flavors to look out for during the tastings. We enjoyed a few snacks as well and brought home a bottle that we can't wait to enjoy. We are already talking about going back to Austin just to do this tour again! read more

My wife and I enjoyed a half day of hill country beers and spirits hosted by the incredible Ike. We took a 30 minute ride in a comfortable van out of the city to Dripping Springs where we visited Fitzhugh Brewing, Treaty Oak Distillery, and Family Business Beer Company, all the while making conversation with other riders by virtue of Ike finding out things about each of us and connecting us together. A couple of the places had food to order, but we just stuck to the drinks. Each place had lots of space and some tasty options, though not a ton of choices. It was a fun way to spend 4.5 hours in comfort with some fun folks imbibing outside of Austin. Definitely a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. read more

We booked the Hill Country Wine and BBQ tour through Austin Detours and it did not disappoint! We loved every minute of it. We were greeted by Ike, who was such a great host. He knew all of the history as we drove through town and threw in plenty of jokes along the way. Our first stop was Salt Lick, which was expecting our arrival and the food was amazing. We did a 90 minute bus tour of the general Austin area. Our guide Joey was great. Very informative about all things Austin. The one thing that wasn't great was the mini bus we traveled in. It sat 12 and we had 12 people. The seats in the back row were very small and I was squished the whole time. It made the drive a bit unpleasant. It was a good thing there were two spots where got out of the bus for photos. I could not have done a whole 90 minutes sitting in the bus. read more

This review is for the Half Day Wine and Hill Country Tour. Had a lovely time being chauffeured by Jax through the Texas countryside. Sometimes it's the little extra things that make a tour great and there was so much of that here. Jax asked us questions to learn about what wines and experiences we like and then passed on the information to the wineries for a curated experience tailored to our group. I don't usually take tours when I visit a destination, but decided to give Austin Detours a try because of their fantastic Yelp rating. If others are saying good things about them, then it's probably worth trying. I signed up the Real Austin Tour the night before and got an immediate confirmation. Their website says "a city overview in just 2 hours" which was perfect, but with a little mishap and trouble with parking, it ended up being around 2.5 hours. The van was roomy & clean, and a nice component of the tour, well, because less walking. I can imagine during the hot summer, the van with a/c would be the preferred way to tour around the city. The tour took us through many neighborhoods and major sights around Austin. Enough that, I went back to many of the stops to explore further. There were many interesting facts pointed out and of course, the scary stories and legends make it all very fun and a bit silly. Stopped off at one of the cupcakes food trucks for a tasty treat, all included with the tour. If you're in Austin, this is a great little tour to see many sites in a short span of time. read more
