One of the many fabulous murals in Austin!

A must when visiting Austin. This tour was truly delightful but amazingly informative! Joey Z was our tour guide and he is absolutely fantastic! The perfect personality for the job. We were all quite impressed by his knowledge of the city and the experience he provided us.

The Quintessential Texas Hill Country Day Out! If you're looking for the perfect blend of Texas hospitality, smoky BBQ, and scenic vineyard views, look no further than the Austin Detours Hill Country BBQ & Wine Shuttle. I recently took this tour in February, and it was the highlight of my weekend (as I'm a local). Whether you are a local hosting out-of-towners or looking for a professional team-building outing, Austin Detours provides a seamless, stress-free way to experience the best of Central Texas. 5/5 recommend! Our day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met our driver, Luke, who was fantastic throughout the trip. We hopped into a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter van for a smooth 40-minute drive out to the hills. One of the best parts of these tours is the people you meet. Our group included travelers from Ontario and Brazil, and it was wonderful swapping stories about their first impressions of Texas while we cruised toward our first stop. We started strong at this legendary BBQ spot - The Salt Lick. After placing our orders for some of that famous fall-off-the-bone brisket, we took a quick walk over to Salt Lick Cellars to grab some wine. Pro tip: Salt Lick is BYO, so being able to grab a bottle right there to pair with the BBQ is a game changer. Next up was Driftwood Estate Winery which was pure relaxation. We grabbed a bottle, found a spot under a massive oak tree, and just took in the incredible Hill Country views. Our new international friends joined us after their tasting, and the conversation was just as good as the wine. Our final stop at Fall Creek Vineyards was originally meant for a formal tasting, but the interior was buzzing and a bit loud. Since the Texas weather was doing us a massive favor -- sunny and nearly 80°F in February! -- the group opted to buy a few bottles and head outside to the fire pit. It was the perfect way to wind down. The drive back to the Austin Visitor Center flew by. We were all chatting, sharing snacks, and enjoying a final beverage in the van. A few things to keep in mind: The $69 price is for the expert guide and transport. You'll want to budget about $35 for BBQ and $10-$25+ for wine tastings/bottles. The Vibe was incredibly flexible. Whether you want to do a formal tasting or just split a bottle by a firepit with new friends, the pace is up to you.

On March 26, 2024, I took the Hill Country BBQ & Wine Shuttle with Austin Detours. The meeting point was the Austin Visitor Center at 10:30 am. The Austin Visitor Center has restrooms, other tour information, great staff, and many souvenirs. At the Visitor Center, one of the information representatives informed us that our tour guide was running a little late due to traffic. About 10:40 am, our tour guide, Avery welcomed us and checked us in. Two days prior to our tour, I had received a waiver to complete. If you don't complete it then, you'll have the opportunity to complete it on the day of the tour. Avery made sure everyone had signed a waiver. She walked us to the Mercedes van and asked all of us to introduce ourselves. The van was full. On our way to Salt Lick BBQ, she provided history of landmarks and gave us the menu to look at. At Salt Lick BBQ, Avery walked us to a table that we shared as a group and got separate checks. Salt Lick Cellars is next door and you could pickup local wine and beer. Currently, they are not offering wine tastings. After eating some very DELICIOUS BBQ, Avery met up with us and offered to help take pictures of us in front of the BBQ pit. Next, we got back to the van and headed across the street to Fall Creek Vineyards - Driftwood. At Fall Creek Vineyards, our group sat at a table in the covered porch deck and had a choice of tastings or purchasing a bottle. Many of us chose the seasonal tasting of 5 wines. Tastings are $25 per person. One couple chose to purchase a bottle and they were able to roam the grounds. We were able to roam the grounds after the tastings. Then, we went to Duchman Family Winery. Here, we had the option to do tastings as well in their tasting room. Tastings are $20 per person and we tasted 6 wines. After the tastings, Avery gave us a tour of the production area. The shuttle returned to the Austin Visitor Center around 3:00 PM. Avery was a wonderful driver and guide. The group I was with was also amazing. We really bonded and felt like we were a family. I had an astonishing time. Note for this tour, it only includes the driver and transportation to the different stops. You have to purchase your own food and wine tastings if you choose to do so.

My wife and I enjoyed a half day of hill country beers and spirits hosted by the incredible Ike. We took a 30 minute ride in a comfortable van out of the city to Dripping Springs where we visited Fitzhugh Brewing, Treaty Oak Distillery, and Family Business Beer Company, all the while making conversation with other riders by virtue of Ike finding out things about each of us and connecting us together. A couple of the places had food to order, but we just stuck to the drinks. Each place had lots of space and some tasty options, though not a ton of choices. It was a fun way to spend 4.5 hours in comfort with some fun folks imbibing outside of Austin. Definitely a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

My friends and I went on the Urban Wine Tasting experience and ended up being the only 3 on the tour which was a fun surprise! We were energetic, talkative and overall excited, and that excitement only grew more and more throughout the day as the wine was poured :) Our guide Evan totally matched our energy and made sure we were having a great time. Since we were the only ones on the tour, Evan was flexible with our timing and drop off location. It was a fun way to explore different parts of Austin in a short amount of time. Highly recommend for a memorable afternoon!

We booked the Hill Country Wine and BBQ tour through Austin Detours and it did not disappoint! We loved every minute of it. We were greeted by Ike, who was such a great host. He knew all of the history as we drove through town and threw in plenty of jokes along the way. Our first stop was Salt Lick, which was expecting our arrival and the food was amazing. Then we moved on to visit two vineyards - all so beautiful! On the way home we had a song and dance party and ended on such a high! I would highly recommend this company, this tour, and most of all, ask for Ike!

Austin Detours created a custom scavenger hunt for my girlfriend and I to propose to each other. From start to finish, everyone we worked with was kind and responsive, and in the end helped us to create a truly one-of-a-kind experience we will never forget. We had such a fun time! Thank you to the creatives at Austin Detours for helping us create the proposal of our dreams!

I posted this review to the wrong page but wanted to make sure it got seen! Omg we are in the middle of doing the breakfast taco tour provided by our hotel! Kandace is amazing! Showed us all the cool spots since we were new. She had great recommendations and dealt with ambiguity well (what taco spots are open in the middle of winter apocalypse 2023). Super funny and I'm glad to have had you as our guide.

This was a great day trip. Brent was a wonderful host and gave us lots of interesting facts about the Hill Country and Austin area. We had an amazing group of people and had some nice conversations and plenty of laughs. Highly recommend this tour company and the fun tours they offer!

In previous vacations we took bus tours to get a little bit more familiar with the city and that is what we did with Austin. Only this time we rode a Double Decker bus! I have seen this kind of bus tour here and there and have seen it when I am in Seattle. Officially I think after this particular bus tour it was my first time riding a Double Decker bus. The weather was typical spring weather on our entire visit but the day we chose to take this tour it was nice and warm and a perfect time to go ride this bus followed by rain for a few days (This took place in April). The ride was so much fun and the tour guide was great! Austin is definitely a different cut than the rest of Texas and that was reflected in many of the people we met. Open mindedness being one and we really felt that with the tour guide. He was so knowledgeable of the city and the neighborhoods and all that made this bus tour all the more amazing. But of course they would probably have staff with personalities that would be compatible in this way. Riding on the top of the bus was so much fun. A few times we had to duck from tree branches and I lowered my head a few times from the traffic lights but that was just me getting nervous with being that high to a light. You see all the sights, famous buildings, museums, local culture, restaurant recommendations and so much more while on this tour. So this was a great experience! I was in Austin proper once a very long time ago and saw just how much it's grown. So it was cool getting acquainted with the city one more time thanks to this bus tour!

At first, I sat on the upper level. It was wonderful to be out in the fresh air. However, the sun was a little too much for me so I had to move down to the inside area. I was the only one down there which was fine, but it was really quite filthy. There was thick gray dust on the top rail of all the seats and the fabric on the seats themselves was all thick with black grease. The tour guide was really wonderful. Entertaining and knowledgeable with one exception that was actually kind of disturbing to me personally. When we got to South Congress he talked about the "I love you so much" wall. His story of a husband painting it for his wife could not have been more wrong. It was in fact done by an artist named Amy for her then girlfriend Liz an infamous Austin hotelier and restauranteur. It is an incredibly iconic part of Austin history and if it's told it should be not fiction. I hope for sure this can be corrected for future tours.

The sights from the river of the bridges, buildings, birds, & reflections off the water were wonderful. The worker who narrated the tour was personable and informative. And yes, it was BYOB, which was another enjoyable bonus. We got very lucky that night. It was a particularly warm December evening, and I'm from Seattle so I was sweating and not knowing if this was normal weather out in Austin, but I guess this may have had something to do with the luck we had that night. This was a normal sunset tour, NOT a bat tour. I've heard of the bats under Congress bridge being a thing to see in Austin in warmer parts of the year. We were not expecting to see them this time, and this is what the worker told us from the very beginning. However, after much of the tour is over and the boat is making its last approach towards Congress bridge... I hear another patron shout "Captain, look!" We all look towards the sky. A thick twisting wave of little bats is passing above us. Then another, and another. They keep, on, coming!!! It was amazing. The narrator said, "Well, I guess this just became a bat tour!" and he shares more information on the bats, points out observations as they fly, and just made the whole journey even more memorable. Even without the bats, the tour was awesome, but I love how easily they transitioned into bat tour mode. Thank you Lone Star Riverboat for an unforgettable time!
