When Steve and I were planning our trip to Austin, Texas we realized fairly quickly that we didn't know the city very well at all. In previous vacations we took bus tours to get a little bit more familiar with the city and that is what we did with Austin. Only this time we rode a Double Decker bus! I have seen this kind of bus tour here and there and have seen it when I am in Seattle. Officially I think after this particular bus tour it was my first time riding a Double Decker bus. The weather was typical spring weather on our entire visit but the day we chose to take this tour it was nice and warm and a perfect time to go ride this bus followed by rain for a few days (This took place in April). The ride was so much fun and the tour guide was great! Austin is definitely a different cut than the rest of Texas and that was reflected in many of the people we met. Open mindedness being one and we really felt that with the tour guide. He was so knowledgeable of the city and the neighborhoods and all that made this bus tour all the more amazing. But of course they would probably have staff with personalities that would be compatible in this way. Riding on the top of the bus was so much fun. A few times we had to duck from tree branches and I lowered my head a few times from the traffic lights but that was just me getting nervous with being that high to a light. You see all the sights, famous buildings, museums, local culture, restaurant recommendations and so much more while on this tour. So this was a great experience! I was in Austin proper once a very long time ago and saw just how much it's grown. So it was cool getting acquainted with the city one more time thanks to this bus tour! read more

I was so looking forward to finally taking a tour of the city. I've been coming here visiting my son for the last dozen or so years and I've never done it. At first, I sat on the upper level. It was wonderful to be out in the fresh air. However, the sun was a little too much for me so I had to move down to the inside area. I was the only one down there which was fine, but it was really quite filthy. There was thick gray dust on the top rail of all the seats and the fabric on the seats themselves was all thick with black grease. The tour guide was really wonderful. Entertaining and knowledgeable with one exception that was actually kind of disturbing to me personally. When we got to South Congress he talked about the "I love you so much" wall. His story of a husband painting it for his wife could not have been more wrong. It was in fact done by an artist named Amy for her then girlfriend Liz an infamous Austin hotelier and restauranteur. It is an incredibly iconic part of Austin history and if it's told it should be not fiction. I hope for sure this can be corrected for future tours. read more

Really good tour led by Jason, who was very upbeat and knowledgeable. Did the tour at the start of our trip which gave us a preview of the city; additional places to check out, and how neighborhoods intertwined. A few tips: - Don't forget your sunglasses and sunscreen if you plan to sit on the upper deck. -If you're tall, consider sitting on the left side of the upper deck to reduce the chance of getting hit in the head by low branches. -Bring cash in case you'd like to tip at the end (optional). -If you're hearing impaired, arrive early to increase your chances of getting a seat up front (on upper deck) closer to the guide. Despite being mic'd, there were times it was a bit challenging to hear. -If you get a single loop trip, you're better off staying on the bus the whole tour. If you get off at any of the stops, you won't be able to hop back on. Have an open mind and have fun! read more

20 Oct 2023 Took the single loop double-decker around Austin. Duration is about 1.5 hours. For more money, you can get the jump on and off version. I like it when there is a driver and a separate tour guide. Leaves the guide free to do his talking without worrying about moving through traffic. It's a bitch right now, construction everywhere, like San Antonio. Ha, ha. We went up Congress Ave. to see the capitol, he pointed out many restaurants and bars that are worth checking out. Also spent a while driving through UT. He pointed out the football stadium, mentioned famous alumnae, etc. A funny comparison of the two ends of 6th St. the west end folks are dressed in collared shirts and drink martinis; the east end (rowdy side) are the ones with vomit on their shirts. It was a fun, informative ride. You should give it a try when in Austin. It starts and ends at the Austin Visitor Center on 4th street, across from the convention center. read more

I give this business 5 stars and didnt even take the tour because the first weekend me and my wife became empty-nesters , I had scheduled a tour and bought tickets a couple of days in advance. Well... we had a family emergency come up and I did as they asked and cancelled before the 24-hour mark. They promptly refunded my tickets. I still really want to do the tour, but in the mean time, these people did a great job of honoring their principles. I will definitely rebook another tour. read more

We learned a lot about Austin on this tour. It is a very efficient way to get to know the city. Just watch out for the tree branches if you sit on top deck . The meet up office has a good selection of souvenirs with resting area and restrooms. Parking garage is in the same building just walk around the corner. read more

The parental units were in town and we decided to take the Double Decker tour. I've lived in Austin off and on all my life and love my city. Mom graduated from UT and has a special fondness for the city, as well. We really enjoyed the tour - everyone was really nice, helpful and the tour was very informative. Although I didn't learn anything new, this is definitely something that's fun for everyone and I highly would suggest any newcomers to the city or visitors to go ahead and enjoy a tour! They offer a "hop on, hop off" price that I'd reccomend, as well, if you're new to Austin - get off, look around, learn more about the city and what it has to offer and it's wonderful history. read more

Every town we visit we always take a bus tour to get the lay of the land. We booked online and received several reminders prior to the tour. Parking was easy in the parking garage next to the tourist office where the bus starts out. The office was staffed with friendly attentive employees. The guide sits on top of the bus with guests and points out the sights and adds poignant facts. Our tour guide Jackie made up dates as she went along. What a great tour and a great way to see/learn about Austin. My husband and I opted for the last tour of the day (4pm) since we had zero plans of doing the hop-on/hop-off stops; we just wanted to sit back, check out the city, see the sights, and hear some cool facts. The tour wasn't packed when we went. There were 2 other people there so we had free rein on where to sit. We still opted for the top, even in Austin's mid-July heat! It was super fun and definitely worth sitting up there, at least for a few stops. The tour guide was great and did a great job at informing us on all the cool things about Austin. The only thing I wish he'd do was anticipate the worthwhile mentions -- like, he would say "on your right, you'll see blah" and by the time he said it it would be behind us haha, so keep your camera out and ready! He did a great job at answering our questions and making sure anyone on the top wasn't getting whacked by tree branches. Double Decker provided spray bottles of water so you can stay cool as well as cups of water, but they tasted funny so you might be better off bringing your own water. Also, if you're inside the bus and sitting next to 1 of the fans, it'll be incredibly difficult to hear what the guide is saying. For optimal, uninterrupted listening, sit up top but weigh the pros and cons of doing so. All things considered, it was a great tour and worth the money. read more

Originally booked the hop on/off, however weather cancelled that option and did the loop tour. It was great and fun, despite the lite rain. They did offer those dollar rain panchos, but not guaranteed, so best stuff one in your bag in case. Great overview of downtown and the University campus. Our guide was engaging and funny. It was 105 degrees so they gave out water and water spray bottles to cool off. Sit on the top of the bus to get the best experience (and breeze). Laura and Chris are a great team. Chris expertly maneuvers around low branches and is a gentleman helping you on and off the bus. Laura is just a lovely host and tour guide. The sun is pretty powerful so umbrellas are provided. We hopped off at stop 5 for food trucks and this was a bad decision. We should have stopped at 4 in SOCO. Not a whole lot to do at our stop and killing two hours was hard. Because this company is so new the time between drop offs and pick ups is two hours. When they have grown and added additional vehicles to their fleet that time should be shorter. read more

Yikes, I guess we should have been paid more attention to the fact that no one recommended that we do this. For the cost, it's definitely not worth it ( 25 bucks a person). The "host" was dull and unenthusiastic & basically boring- besides the fact that he didn't speak loud enough to really even hear. So disappointed in this, defiantly would try anything else, and I try to do this ever city I go to- it's my "token" tourist thing... so far the biggest and only fail of Austin so far. read more

Was a really cool way to learn more about the city you were visiting. We came to Austin for the United States Grand Prix. It was our last day before our flight back home that night so we decided to do something touristy. We ordered $35 ticket online so we could get the discount and have the option to get on and off at any spot on the tour. So we got got off one stop to do a bit of souvenir shopping. We got picked up after and hour and a half. Total of 6 spots. We usually go to the top deck and they do warn you when need to duck for trees and branches. So there are benefits to booking with a locally owned company. I booked the hop on, hop off tour because I was with my husband on a business trip and needed a safe way to see the city on my own. My plan was to start the tour on stop 1, ride to stop 3 at the State Capitol, spend some time at the Capitol and then see the rest of Austin. After several hours at the Capitol I had gone to wait for the next bus when I received a phone call from a local number, it was the owner of the company. Their bus had mechanical issues so they couldn't run, but he offered to come get me and return me to my hotel. I was very impressed with the offer as he could have left me on my own getting back to the hotel, he also offered to either book me the next day or refund my money. As we had a mid-day flight I opted to get my money back, that refund showed in my account several days later. I was very pleased with their customer service and should we return to Austin I would like to book the tour again and see what I missed. read more

We took the final tour of the day today on the double decker bus. It was a hot day, but we sat up top to get the full experience. I enjoyed the tour very much and appreciate that they provided us with water and cool towels. They even offered little cold water misters and sunscreen. Overall, it was a bit overpriced - $25 per person for a tour that lasted a little over an hour and 15 minutes - but it is a great way to see the city. Terrible tour. We took the tour today at 3:35 PM. It picked us up at Soco Hotel. I have lived in Austin for 18 years, but had family in town and thought it would be a fun way to learn about the city. Not only did our guide mispronounce several businesses along the way, but other than just pointing out some of his favorite spots, he provided no historical or interesting information. He provided incorrect information about the tallest building in Austin, the Capitol, Rainey and the Elephant Room. He provided no information about downtown or SoCo. I did the hop on hop off. It was a great way to get to see the city! I got off at the state museum spent 2 hours, plenty of time then got back on for the rest of the tour. We did the 90 minute tour without the on/off option. We were able to walk to most of these areas on our own for further exploration, but it allowed us to get a glimpse of a couple extended areas. It also gave us a great overview of Austin with some facts and history. We had beautiful weather, so it was great to soak in the sun and enjoy the scenery! The tour guide did a great job! It was a nice way to get a quick overview, but the bus does not run very often, it only makes one stop in all of the south end district (SOCO), and the bus was old and dilapidated. Ended up ubering back to car rather than waiting over an hour. The best part was that the two guides were lovely, helpful, friendly and engaged. read more

She not only provided descriptions of the sights but also interesting facts about the city like bats there and other tibits.
