STEPH JUDGEMENT: Great for tube noobs. One of the things that we knew we HAD to do while in Austin was go for a tube river float. Since we were totally unfamiliar with the rivers and launch areas, we decided to go with a guide to make things easy for ourselves. After perusing the many different outfits around town, these guys seemed like the ones with the highest marks. I made the reservations online while still in CA and everything was in order when we showed up on float day. As other reviews have mentioned, you can bring all the alcohol and snacks you want--they will stow it in their cooler bags and everything will float down with you. After getting checked in, we boarded the bus and were soon off to the San Marcos river. Since it was a midweek float and therefore not as crowded, there was only one guide who floated down with us. His name was Green and he made sure we had a great time. Most of the float was very chill and relaxing, which was just the way we wanted it. If you want more of a raucous party scene, save it up for the weekend. It was a beautiful, hot day--perfect for a float. I did make the mistake of not reapplying suncreen well on my legs and they got roasted pretty good. Other than that, it was the perfect float and I'd love to do it again! read more

Directions were easy to follow, and the area convenient--there's a convenience store where you can get snacks/drinks for the river and bus trip. The views from the river are beautiful. Sean was a knowledgable and FUN guide. Jamie was so friendly and informative at check-in and when we arrived at the river to get our tubes and making sure we always knew where to go. Tips: Coolers with ice are provided so bring enough drinks and snacks for the 5ish hours round trip you'll be away. Remember to pack your sunscreen and reapply often (keep it in your cooler). the staff was great, very nice and helpful in navigating the more tricky parts of the river. however the bus is a SCAM!! we purchased these tickets imagining a charter bus, we got an old yellow school bus. ac barely worked, every seat was filled, over 100 degrees, imagine the smell on the ride back... I felt like the staff could have been more organized. leaving the river, we were missing a group and they had no way of knowing who was missing and how to reach them. ended up waiting an hour for the rest of our group to find us. unfortunately we were stuck with two bachelor parties and felt like the staff could have asked them to be more courteous of the other groups on bored. they were drinking on the bus and using racial slurs. save your money and just drive to the river yourself read more

Tubing down the river was by far my favorite part of visiting Austin. They allow you to bring your own food and drinks. Pick up and drop off and the beginning/end of the river. They have your guides to make sure you stay with the group you came with. It's very easy to lose your friends on the river, so stay close to each other! School bus ride on the way back after 3 hours of drinking and being in the sun was a little rough, but I've never been a fan of the suspensions on school buses. Our friends came out to visit and my wife and I really wanted to do a river float experience. We went out on a Friday morning and they took us to the San Marcos river. It was an absolute blast! The hosts were funny, friendly and very helpful. All we needed to bring was the beer and they supplied the rest. Tubes, coolers, ice, sun lotion and a bus ride to and from. This event originally was an elite event that had to be canceled due to the glorious Austins weather but the staff was very thorough about getting the information out. I received both a text and an email notifying me of the weather cancellation. They also offered to extend it to the following Friday, so that's what I did. I took my son with me. We showed up, signed in, signed a couple of waivers, got a wristband & basic 411 of what to expect next. We had time to stop by the store to pick up some drinks so we had something more to put in the cooler. They provide the cooler with ice for your group along with the tube and set everything up for you. The crew of 2 did a great job helping everyone and providing clear information. It was a blast floating down the river chatting with other people and relaxing. Our transportation was a big school bus. We met in downtown & we a driven to San Marcos and they drive us back. ATTENTION: ATXCURSIONS now does Brewery Tours!!! The hubster and I opted for the Saturday afternoon of fun in the sun with suds! Scheduling was a breeze via ATXCs website, or if you have any questions call and Andrew will eagerly answer any of your questions and/or accommodate all of your wants and needs. Very friendly and helpful! The small tour group (the van accommodates about 10 people) met at Craft Pride on Rainey Street around 1pm. This provides a great opportunity to get acquainted with your other "tourmates" and get to chat with your self-proclaimed "Sherpa" for the day! Our guy was T (yup, just T) and he proved to be amazing throughout the day. The meet up also serves as a way to start the day off with one of the many cold brews they sell at Craft, compliments of ATXCs of course! Dip your toes in the water...errrhhmm....tongue in the beer. ;) After a suggested bathroom trip if needed, we all piled into the van and were off to Thirsty Planet. Upon arrival, T took care of everything. He checked us in, provided us with beer tasting tickets, and sent us on own to explore and titillate our taste buds. Plenty of time to sip and chat with other patrons...then our journey continued to Jester King Brewery - by far the longest stay of the three breweries you will visit during your guided trip. T had a large, long table reserved for us and suggested we visit Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza for some pie (which we all did)...yum BTW [see separate review if interested]. We all ordered pizzas (the bucks on you for desired grub), SFH took our cell numbers and said they would text when ready, we made our way back up to the table and there were glass settings and about 8 large bottles of JK's finest waiting for us to sample. The whole experience is even better if the weather is nice - which it was! The group just chilled, talked, tasted, noshed (some of us were even nice enough to share SFH's concoctions with each other, and with T also - this is highly recommended! T likes pizza too...lol). After all of the bottles had been extinguished and our bellies were content, back to the bus we went. Last stop was Hops & Grain. No need for beer tickets here and no reserved seating. ATXCs has a pre-arranged agreement with H&G. Once escorted in, you're on your own. It was particularly crowded the day we visited with the tour; however, no worries! The line moves pretty fast and you receive more than a tasting...more like a full beer with each trip through the line! During the entire tour you will never feel rushed...not one bit. The tour is not a "brewery" tour per se, but more of a "beer tasting tour." You don't actually take the narrated tours with herds of other people through the breweries that explain the process of making beer...blah...blah. I LOVE beer, and even have a small home brew kit, but let's face it; unless you're majorly into the chemistry behind beer, one tour is usually enough to satisfy any beer-isseur. Our particular tour consisted of T, my husband and myself, and 4 other couples - one visiting from Cali, two Austinites, and one who had recently moved to Austin. I am very happy to say that we all really connected and pretty much spent the entire day together as a group, bonding over the spoils of the day. In addition to checking out some cool brews, we also made a few new friends - which is never a bad thing, right? Simply put, this tour is designed to bring brew heads together and enjoy about 5 hours indulging in the bubbles of the Yeast Gods. Overall: 10 stars! From beginning to end, not one flaw in ATXCursions perfect system! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! TIPS: *The $59 p/p fee includes all suds & transportation charges, including tips, at Craft Pride & all breweries; however, tipping extra is never frowned upon. [Note: although my maiden voyage was complimentary, I would happily pay to do this again! Worth every $!] The ATXCs Brew Tour is certainly at the top of my "to do list" when people visit from out of town or when there is a special occasion (thinking this would be great for a beer lover's bday!). **Be sure to bring CASH to tip your guide/driver (e.g., T) GENEROUSLY, as they most certainly deserve it! Simply wonderful! ***ATXCs vans have an ice chest of bottled waters on board. Drink some in-between breweries. Just sayin'. ****If you choose to partake in the Saturday trip, parking is available in the SkyHouse Apt's parking garage just down the street from CP for 10 bucks (CC accepted). If you opt for the Sunday Xcursion, metered street parking on Rainey if free all day - if you can find it - but be sure you're able to move your car before 8am Monday, so you don't get towed. *****The weekend tours are from 1-6; these are approximate hours. Be prepared to maybe go over a bit and definitely have safe plans on how to get back to your final destination. If you pace yourself and eat during the trip, you should be okay. Easily the highlight of our Austin trip! We've been back for two weeks, and continue to talk about how awesome this experience was! I planned this excursion about two months prior to our trip, and the communication between myself and the Company was on point! Where to meet, what time, what to bring, what to plan for, when to buy the alcohol, and daily reminders leading up to day-of, which made the trip so stress-free and easy. We met around 10:30AM, quickly signed in, handed over all our goods to our trusty guides, Ross and Jamie, they put together our coolers, and we were off! The bus was packed, but there was never not a beer in my hand! They were on it, making sure we were all as happy as clams, and everyone had a smile... or a beer (same thing, right?). They provided us with individual bags for all our personal, valuable belongings to keep safe on the bus. Upon arriving at the River, we all unloaded, applied sun-screen, picked our tubes and jumped in the water, which was a 50 foot walk from the bus. Convenient much? We turned on the tunes, put a chilled beer in our tube cup holder, and started our 5 hour float excursion. We were surprised to see that Austin has a somewhat tropical, rain-forest like landscape, with tree-root river walls, relatively warm water, lush green foliage scaling the river and turtles, literally EVERYWHERE. It was 80 degrees and sunny, perfect weather to accompany a perfect way to spend a Summer day in Austin. The rapids were mellow but exciting to venture down, trying to hold onto one another and your beer at the same time, which clearly made for some great laughs and wet hair. Ross, our guide, got us out of a couple sticky situations, running into walls, and getting stuck on rocks, which only made for some clumsy, hilarious stories. It's safe to say, we had the absolutely BEST time with ATXcursions, and our guides Ross and Jamie made it what it was, they were beyond informative, reliable, and so.much.fun! I would recommend this trip to everyone and anyone visiting Austin for any reason. This past weekend 8/18/18 I went on the river ride & when I tell you this was an amazing trip it was nothing but amazing. The guides were friendly, energetic, and helpful during the whole process. ( of course I forgot there names but it was a male & female & I was on the 1:00 tour) Anyways what you need to know about this river ride is that it's 6hrs long & full of fun. I'd say put sunscreen in your cooler because you'll need it ( trust no matter the amount of melanin you have) pack waterproof sunscreen. I'd also say bring bungee cords w| clasp ( so that you don't float away from the group) also bring drinks in plastic containers & same for alcohol. I would also recommend packing finger food chips & dip, small sandwiches & fruit because 6hrs is a long time trust me. Also if you like music grab a beats pill. Ah, Texas. You light me up in new ways every time we meet. Is there any state comparable to you? You've got lakes, islands, mountains, the best tacos I've ever eaten and river tubing too. Seriously, Texas has everything you could ever want in a place. I digress, but I will say that spending a Sunday afternoon lazin' down the San Marcos River is one of the coolest things you'll do in the lone star state, trust me. So you've spent the weekend in Austin double fisting drinks amongst the 6th street madness. I get it and I partake in the same debauchery every time I'm in town. But this visit was different. I'm an explorer by nature and wanted to see what else Texas had to offer. So I ditched the BBQ (although Texas BBQ is drool-worthy) and headed thirty minutes outside of Austin to float the river with ATXcursions. We woke up super early to meet our tour guide downtown at the Austin Vistor's Center. To keep it all the way real, I told my BF that we had to be there at 9:00 am for our 10:30 tour and I was wrong,-oops. Honestly, I'm glad we were early because tacos were involved in our wait (YAS!). After checking in with our lovely guides, we boarded a full yellow school bus and I couldn't help but think about how long it's been since I've sat in those bus seats #hellohighschool. We bought a 6-pack and wine along for the float. The bus ride was full of chatting friends, top 40 music and good vibes all around. I was just ready to get there and with each mile the anticipation built. Not to be dramatic, but I'd never done anything this cool. Floating and drinking? SCORE When we finally arrived to the San Marcos River, we hopped off the bus, grabbed our tubes (remember to choose one with a cup holder), loaded up our 'bartending' stations and hit the water. The water was cold AF, but that's why we brought alcohol. Surely the drinks warmed us up and about 10 minutes into the float we were all settled in. For the next 3 hours, we'd float, laugh and get stuck multiple times. Our guides had to pull us from a few little crooks. Tubing the river was so relaxing and serene. It's the perfect activity for a group of friends and even couples to do together. Floating for three hours without your cell phone will remind you of the golden days before we were attached to the little computers in our pockets. I promise you the conversation will be great because there's nothing but beauty surrounding you. I will say, don't be like Keith (My BF), be sure to apply sunscreen. You'll be floating under direct sunlight for hours. He regretted that the next day in between runs to the store looking for aloe vera. I'm so glad that I found ATXcursions because I had the best time on this tour. It's the best 'tour' I've ever been on because it doesn't feel restricted like traditional tours do. If you're in Austin you have to hit the river. It'll be the best thing you did all weekend. I am so glad my friends coerced me into a quick weekend adventure to go tubing in ATX. I had never been before so I didn't know what to expect but ATXcursions definitely made everything super easy and fun. I loved that they emphasized safety but were constantly telling us to have fun. They definitely took great care of us. We met up in the late morning with a lot of other parties. You bring your own beverages and snacks and the guides will pack everything up for you in their coolers. A (literal) school bus takes us on a 45 min ride to the river. During the last 10 minutes of the ride, the guides walked down the aisle and explained the nitty gritty and then we had a fun 3.5 hour float. Everyone met back up at the bus and then back home. I highly recommend this company if you want to have a pretty relaxed, fun filled day of tubing! They take care of pretty much everything for you and were really nice answering the constant stream of questions shot at them.
