We got some history and insights of the city, a nice comfortable ride, and were able to get out and stretch our legs. If you prefer a more traditional tour, this is an excellent option.

An authentic Austin experience with true Southern hospitality!…read more We had such a great time exploring Austin's live music scene with Jax, our tour guide, and Brad, our designated driver. From the moment we started, they made us feel welcome and gave us a fun, relaxed way to experience the local Austin that you don't always find on your own. We went from honky tonks to some seriously cool Southern California surf music, experiencing different venues, sounds, and personalities along the way. Jax extremely knowledgeable, personable, and clearly passionate about Austin and its music culture. And having Brad behind the wheel made the entire evening easy and stress-free we could enjoy the music, the atmosphere, and the experience without worrying about getting from one venue to the next. What really stood out was the genuine Southern hospitality from both of them. The bus drive interactions between all the passengers discussing favorite concerts was a good ice breaker. They made the tour feel less like a typical sightseeing experience and more like being shown around Austin by friends who know all the good spots. If you want to get beyond the typical tourist experience and discover what makes Austin the Live Music Capital of the World, I highly recommend Austin Detours. Thank you, Jax and Brad, for an unforgettable night!

Austin Detours saved my day. I had booked another tour provider for one my one full day in Austin,…read moreand for the first time in my life, I was stood up. Scrambling at the very last minute, I scoured Trip Advisor for a similar experience, and found Austin Detours. The tour was about to start, so I ran (yes, ran) through the 90+ degree Texas heat to arrive on time. My guide, David, was incredible, very interesting to listen to, and took us all around Austin. I really felt like I attained a better understanding for the city. He even took our picture at different spots, and the sweet treat was delightful. The only thing I didn't love was that the elder couple on the tour with me rambled about their political leanings, which I didn't agree with at all and I struggled to keep my mouth shut, but David did such a good job of delicately leading them off the topic on multiple occasions. Their tour is super reasonably priced, a value, really. I'd recommend them to anyone visiting Austin for the first time.

But if you go during events like Bastille Day when there are activities like playing petanque on the lawn, you'll find the place more lively. Regardless of when you visit there's a small dedicated parking lot attached which is welcome, and inexpensive metered street parking if the lot is full. The walk to the boats was a bit tricky, especially for some of our older family members, as it follows a pedestrian and bike path. There is also poison ivy along the trail to discourage people from entering Lady Bird Lake, but there are no warning signs. Thankfully, one of our cousins who lives locally gave us a heads-up. Just before the tour began, it started pouring rain, and we all rushed up to the Hyatt Hotel to try to dry off. The hotel staff were incredibly accommodating, and the property itself is beautiful. Once the rain passed, we were fortunate that the tour was still able to continue. Our captain and tour guide, Molly, truly made the experience exceptional. She was warm, genuine, and incredibly engaging from start to finish. Molly shared fascinating insights about the Austin skyline and the history of the bats, making the tour both educational and entertaining. She also used a red light so we could clearly see the bats as they flew out from under the bridge, which was a highlight for everyone. The tour offers stunning views of Lady Bird Lake, the Austin skyline, and a beautiful sunset, all while learning about one of the city's most unique attractions. Molly's enthusiasm and knowledge really elevated the entire experience. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Austin.

I had no idea what to expect from Texas wine, but I was honestly pleasantly surprised. The day started at the Austin Visitor Center where we met with our tour guide and other guests. Then we hopped on our sprinter van and headed about 40 min outside of town to start our tour at Driftwood Winery. I really enjoyed the wines and we ended up purchasing a bottle to enjoy along the tour. Next, we went to Fall Creek Vineyards. This setting was beautiful, but I didn't love the wines as much. I did love that they had plenty of snacks so you could make your own charcuterie board. Snacks are a must when drinking wine all day. Last, we ended closer to the city in the St. Elmo District at Austin Winery. The tour is about $70 and then you pay for your wines at each stop. I had a fabulous time with our tour guide and tour mates. Would reccomend this if you're looking for a day excursion in Austin.
