I booked this trip solo and my boyfriend ended up doing it with me last minute. Communication was great with the company and they were able to make sure we got on our kayak together even though we didn't book together. The trip was informative, fun and gorgeous! I loved it so much. Hannah was extremely kind and knowledgeable about the bats. I highly recommend doing this! It was unforgettable for us and such a great all around experience. They take photos for you too so you don't have to bring your phone. I recommend not bringing your phone unless you have it very secure as mine did fall out of my pocket as I was paddling but it did not damper this trip at all. Do it! read more

Arguably one of my family's coolest experiences! My experience with Boats and Bats in Austin was exceptional! Aaron and his crew were second to none--thoughtful, kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly accommodating. The entire tour was well-organized and truly enjoyable. My kids LOVED it! The highlights of the trip were undoubtedly the stunning sunset, the breathtaking skyline, particularly after the sun went down, and, of course, the famous bats. Watching the bats emerge at dusk was a spectacular sight, and Aaron's insightful commentary added so much to the experience. I went on this excursion while visiting my daughter and her boyfriend in TX. I'm from southern CA and wanted to do something fun and local during my vacation. It was a great choice! Our guide, Aaron was a great host, explaining the basics about paddle boarding (it was MY first time, but not theirs.) I was a little nervous, being the first time, but he made it really easy. It was a beautiful ride, starting right before sunset. We really took in the beauty of nature and the Austin city skyline as we paddled out while it was still daylight. Our small group consisted of 2 kayaks and 2 paddle boards, My group of 3 got to use one huge paddle board which made it a nice group activity for us. The whole tour group stayed loosely together, and Aaron was always available if we had any questions or concerns. He got some photos of us on the way to the bridge and then AT the bridge, which turned out really nice! Once we got to the bridge, we gathered all together and our guide gave us some interesting information about the bats, their history here, their behavior patterns, and what to watch for when they came out after sunset. He was great at explaining things we would want to know and answered some of our questions. And What an amazing show of nature!! It was awesome to see the bats, so many all in one place. We felt like we had the best viewpoint of anyone out there who came to see the bats. There were lots of people on other boats and kayaks, also on the bridge looking down, and in the park under some trees, but we were definitely in the best spot for viewing! We will never forget it. After we watched the bats for a while we padded back to our starting point, and really enjoyed the night paddle, using some headlights that are on each of the boards and kayaks. The sights of the city lights from the water were also spectacular to see. Overall a very enjoyable activity and worth the cost. We all LOVED this experience!! Everyone who can, should do this at least once if they live in the area or are just visiting TX. It was a special treat and great outdoor physical activity. There's nothing else like it! My family and I visited Austin and really enjoyed the giant SUP bat tour with Aaron and his friends. Relaxed and professional tour. We really enjoyed this kayak trip. The kayaking wasn't hard and we had a lot of freedom to check out the lake. Our guide was informative and shared a lot of interesting information about the bats. They don't all come out at one time but it is still a worthwhile experience. You may get bat pee on you. If you are wondering if you should do a tour or just try to look from the bridge...do the tour! We were nervous about bringing our phones so we left them behind. I wish we had them to take more pictures. They promised lots of pictures but there were only about a dozen pictures. Very structured and informative. Beautiful and scenic. I've never kayaked before and am not a person that would usually do so, but I love bats! It was surprisingly enjoyable. We did get soaking wet though, so bring some extra clothes or dress better than we did. The bats were awesome, I could have watched them all night. I recommend this tour, you won't be able to see much from the bridge. read more
