If you aren't particular then it'd be fine. Blackened karaage is a novelty but actually worse than normal karaage unfortunately. The sauce is cute aesthetically as a touch but it doesn't taste good actually. The rice is not good, wanted it to be but it deviates too much from what fried rice should taste like and even on it's own... the Service was great. "Everything was either mid or really good. Which is a good thing" - SO That sums it up really well. The server, Jay, let us know that the whole table didn't need to order the dinner prix-fixe, so we were able to try a lot, and order the things that we really wanted to try separately. Stand outs were the Pork Belly Skewer $6 (liked it so much had to get another), mushroom party skewer (shiitake and oyster absorbed so much flavor), beef tongue skewer $10 (fatty and american bbq like - so tasty!), and yaki onigiri. The Swan Song $18 cocktail was also refreshing and not overpowering like the bourbon in the Yuzu Sour $15 (SO did not like, downed it, and got tipsy early on lol). Chicken Wing $7 with the peach habanero glaze was hardly spicy (slight kick) and mid. Prix-fixe as of 9/7/24 (smaller portions than the regular menu) $55: - Miso Corny Soup: sweet corn was a nice touch! Miso soup itself was a little saltier than I would have liked but SO liked it a lot. - Tsukemono: daily house pickles. Hard to mess up - refreshing and tasty. - Avo Tuna Toast: similar to what you would find in Tuna Crispy Rice appetizers, except in one, larger piece. The base is thinner which made it crispier and tasty - Squid Ink Karaage (2 pcs): Nothing memorable compared to your go to spot for karaage, aside from the charcoal appearance. - Broccolini: simple. I came here on a Friday night with friends and we were seated pretty fast with a reservation. We made it just in time for Happy Hour and ordered the Shishito Pepper, Chicken Wing, Pork Riblet, Fancy Fries, and the Onigiri. Our favorite was the Fancy Fries! The seasoning and sauce were very good and a good portion was given. Our least favorite was the Onigiri as it was plain and nothing special with it. Very delicious and gives you a new idea of what lengua can/could taste. Awesome, definitely try. Squid Ink Kaarage (7.5/10) Don't be fooled, it's not burnt. Pretty solid, nothing crazy. I wouldn't say it's different from any other chicken kaarage. I wouldn't order once to try but probably not again. Chicken Meatball Yakitori (7/10) Not sure what the hype is. It's ALRIGHT. Visited Hatch on a Saturday night with friends. Two of us ordered the "tasting menu" with a variety of small tastes served one at a time. Each dish served beautifully on the plate with a wide range of flavors. Our husbands ordered from the menu. Started with the miso soup to hamachi, oysters, squid ink karaage, ( comes out very black with a gray dipping sauce, very delicious), the miso spareribs were outstanding fall off the bone tasty. We tried the bone marrow for the first time along with mochi bread which paired well together. The lamb chops were very tender. We shared everything and by the end of the evening we were very satisfied. Lots to opt for with whiskey and rum as well. this place is so underrated. i think it may get looked over due to its pricey menu but i have never been let down by the food itself. the beef tongue is my absolute favorite and i think about it weekly. the texture and flavor is so unique, rich, and addicting. if it was not $10 i would order so many of them! the chicken meatball skewer and corn tempura tower are another one of my go-tos. the dessert has always been great too, decadant and fun. if you dont mind the splurge (it's not expensive but i feel it's a lot for the portions for some people), you will enjoy the meal. one of my mom's favorites during her last visit! read more

I've been waiting to try this place out and finally got an excuse with the recent yelp passport event. There was no wait time during the weekday around 7pm. I ordered a few skewers, a black fried rice with no mushroom, and grilled apple dessert. The skewers came one by one along with the black fried rice being first. The fried rice was really flavorful and strong on the ginger taste. My favorite skewer was the chicken meatball, which came with a sauce consisting of egg yolk and soy sauce. All of the skewers were delicious. The grilled apple dessert was very unique too. The combination of ice cream, apple, and a cookie gave a nice mix of textures and sweetness. Ahhh Hatch, what can I say...you had me at "hatch ya later" (who doesn't love a good pun?!). Ok, maybe my husband because I kept laughing at the menu and after the third one, he started rolling his eyes. Whatever. Very cozy restaurant inside the BLOC in Downtown LA. They have validated parking ($44 without validation so make sure to get validated for $40 off). Can I just add that I hate driving up the parking ramp!? 5 minutes of just driving in circles is not a good way to start a meal. Celebrated our friends birthday here the other night...easy to make reservations through Open Table. Love the ambience of this place (huge bar to the left and tables - big and small - to the right). Easily fit a group of 5 or more. Small plates but easy to share if you get a few items. They had a dinner DINE LA menu for $55 for about 6 items. For a party of 5, we ordered 3 "DINE LAs" and some items on the side and dessert. We also had about 2 drinks each and the total came out to a little over $500 (after tax, tip and 3% kitchen fee). We were definitely full and probably could've done without a few items. Food was good, drinks were good (although it took a while to get our drinks), service was good...we all had an eggcellent time...would definitely return and recommend. Me and my love were looking for a little spot to enjoy a drink together, we wanted something close by the train station. I was starting to get sad because we weren't finding anything. Finally we see this little spot in the corner, and sure enough they have a bar. My sadness started to go away, as we continued into the environment we were welcomed and greeted. I can't say enough good things about this place. It was the last stop of the night after a day of drinking. Hatch is located in the same plaza as the hotel we were staying at for the weekend, a center known as The Bloc. It was an hour before closing on a Sunday so space was pretty empty but lighting was low and music was chill. It created a nice, relaxing atmosphere for an end of day dinner. To be honest, we weren't expecting much because of the center it was located in, but were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the following: Corn stack: crunchy and tender with three patty like pieces and small dollops of different sauces to try. Very tasty. Chicken thigh skewer: super tender chicken thigh with green onion. Flavorful and delicious. Wagyu skewer: delicious and topped with wasabi. For me, I think the wasabi was so strong, it took away from the beef flavor and the single skewer was $18, I believe. Not entirely worth it in my opinion, could've been more tender. But yummy nonetheless. Beef tongue skewer: I love beef tongue and I have never had it this tender. Incredible. The marinade is delicious. Definitely a must order. Agedashi tofu: only three pieces but comes in this large bowl of delicious, thick, mushroom broth with braised mushroom slices. So rich and tasty. The broth actually is the highlight of the dish. Black fried rice: black rice, nutty and al dente. An assortment of vegetables and mushrooms, we added on ground chicken and it was a rather large dish. In certain areas the rice crisped up beautifully. I'd order it again. Cocktails were flavorful and well balanced and there was a small wine selection. Had planned to go to Joey DTLA but it had a 45+ min wait and we were limited on time. Walked by this place and saw that it had a few open tables and we were lucky enough to get seated right away. Service was 10/10, well informed and efficient. Very friendly and quick. Food was 10/10. I've been to a few yakitori places, ranging from traditional to more modern. I definitely felt like this one was on the more modern side, but did not take away from the essential vibes that is yakitori. Some of my favorites were the miso beer spare ribs. They were so tender and had such a good flavor. The broccolini was a great side dish and well seasoned. Out of the skewers, my fave was definitely the wagyu and fresh wasabi. Perfectly cooked and a good amount of meat on one skewer. I also liked their chicken meatball. The side of egg yolk dipping sauce gave it such a rich and flavorful taste. Not quite as easy to share dishes for a large group, but service was fast and friendly. We liked all the skewers we got, not as impressed with the agedashi tofu, karage needed sauce for flavor, wagyu burger skewer was tasty but pricy. 12/26/25: Was excited to try this place based on the reviews here, unfortunately it did not meet my expectations. Staff were incredibly nice and helpful in answering our questions on the menu, but we realized that the portion sizes compared to the pricing seems off, it was $5 for one skewer and they recommended 2-3 skewer per person. They also offered a tasting menu for $55, but I was in a group of 3, so we opted to go with the shareables. The Soboro Rice looked good, but it was somewhat bland and just warm (not hot), and the texture overall felt very mushy, almost like eating ground raw chicken; I had to add sesame seeds to add some different texture and flavor to it. The Wasabi Bolognese was actually delicious, we enjoyed the noodles and the sauce. However, the portion for both "sharables" look to be adequate for one person to eat the whole plate, so I'm not so sure if I can consider it sharable or worth the price, especially since the bolognese was basically double the price of the soborro rice. I even tried to compare it to previous photos here on Yelp to estimate the size, but it seemed smaller than the photo. Upon getting out of the parking lot to look for the restaurant, we walked through a scenic area of LA decked out with Christmas and holiday decor. That was a very nice touch. When we got to the actual restaurant, the ambience exceeded my expectations. The best way to put it is a skewers restaurant meets bar meets fine dining. We were greeted warmly by the host and seated right away. Prices were decent for the amount of food we got. The thing that blew me away the most was the pork belly skewers, the oysters, and their American Wagyu skewers. The corn tower and any of the rice dishes were a bit underwhelming, but overall, it was a fun experience. Do keep in mind that if you are coming in a big party, double check with the server to make sure your order is correct. Hatch food is tapas style where the food comes out as it's made. The menu is extensive with a variety of items including chicken hearts and softshell crab tacos. It would be hard to find something you didn't like and because the dishes are tapas sized you can explore the menu without too much angst. It's a slogans on the t-shirts kind of place with friendly staff. Service was good although a touch spotty at times. This place is located in the heart of DTLA, so ambience is very loud, busy, city lights, traffic, homeless people vibes! All caught while I walked toward this restaurant from the parking garage. It is located in this mall/plaza off 7th, well I found it, and luckily since it was a party of one, I was offered the bar seating. It was packed and loud and busy, so I thought to myself the food must be really good here and I was starving so I couldn't wait. The server who attended me didn't make any recommendations and he knew it was my first visit. I over heard another bartender give his suggestions to another couple that sat next to me. Wish I would have known. My bartender Nigel was ok, I felt uncomfortable at one point because he kept mentioning "Yelp" comments towards me. He only suggested I add one more item because of what I had ordered, so I did. I was very disappointed in their servings, they are served like appetizers, bite size portions I guess? I order their corn plate, literally like 1/4 of corn served on a stick, seasonings and dressing were on point, just very small bite to enjoy. I also ordered their "wagyu burger and fry" but was warned it's not a burger, it's actually beef served on a skewer with a piece of potato. And lastly I ordered their shrimp it was literally two pieces of shrimped grilled on skewers with nice hot red sauce on top. Not my style especially since I was hungry and this "dinner" didn't do it for me. Aside from that, the bar tender kept saying remarks like "is it yelp worthy?" "Is this IG worthy for a photo?" And so I didn't like that I wanted to be left alone and do my own thing. The one cocktail I ordered was on the sweet side and made with sake and gin but I wouldn't get it again, so I decided to try one of their beers on tap, which made my evening complete here. This place is great! I've been a few times and it is always delicious. Highlights for my most recent experience were the beef tongue and white prawn yakitori, along with the squid ink karaage, with the black garlic ranch dip. Their specialty cocktails are also always winners, we sampled the yuzu sour and the Ghost Malone a tequila based "crystal" style drink. The staff are always efficient and friendly. Ask for the house hot sauce! It doesn't have a name, I checked. It's some "secret sauce" level scrumptious. Service here was super friendly, fast, and accommodating and there was plenty of seating and it felt nice and lit. Not dark enough to bust out my cell phone flashlight like some restaurants during dinner service. Everyone was knowledgeable and helped guide my selections. I really appreciate the offer to let me take home the bone from the 12" bone marrow! It's good for dogs... or for making some soup stock at home. Or soup for dogs. Everything I tried hit the spot, from the iced sencha tea to the avo tuna toast, squid ink karaage, chicken meatball, and breast and bacon skewers. I want to come back and try more menu items because I'm pretty sure they might be flawless! Does every review for this place mention parking? RUN, dont walk! Hatch is now selling bento boxes! Love the food at Hatch but don't have enough time to dine-in during your lunch break? Hatch is now offering 3 different types of bento boxes. They have the Tu-Peck Shakur chicken bowl, the Michael Kelps Unagi bowl, and the Plant McCartney veggie bowl. My team and I decided to try Hatch's new offerings for lunch today. I ordered the Tu-Peck Shakur because CAaaAliFORNIA LUVVVV! You know what I mean? Anywho. The bowl consisted of a well marinaded chicken thigh yakitori, a chicken meatball yakitori accompanied with a sous vide egg yolk and tare dip, soboro, all over white rice. My favorite part of this dish has to be the chicken meatball. The flavor was so powerful and jam packed with flavor! If you're ever in the area, stop by and check out Hatch! The music is always on point and the staff here is always friendly. Their mixed drinks are a must have! I highly recommend trying the squid ink chicken karaage. Really loved this place. We checked it out for our monthly girls night out. It was a little hard to find since it's in a big mall. The menu was interesting and wasn't sure exactly what we were getting but once the food came out, EVERYTHING was very tasty and unique. One of the owners came out to say hello and the servers checked on us often. They have a full bar which is a huge plus for us. I'd suggest that you ask for some hot sauce (they have homemade hot sauce) since everything felt like it lacked spice. I'll definitely go read more

cute little spot in the mall area, we came about an hour before closing and were luckily seated right away! Our servers were very helpful w how much to order :) we did everything Ala carte, everything we got was super good but you can't go wrong w the black rice and the wagyu cheese burger skewers def my favorite thing!!! I've written over 1.2k reviews but I can count in my one hand how many times I've updated my review. Hatch is one of those places worth revisiting and I'm glad I did! My first visit was kind of underwhelming but the second visit literally blew my mind! My foodie partner said he hasn't been here and had been wanting to try the place so I obliged to go with him. We went dinner time and we both just wanted to just have a few bites. We started off with broccolini, beef tongue, mushroom party, and skirt steak with a drink for each one of us. I had the Sakura love and my friend got a mock tail. We loved everything so we decided to splurge by ordering more items. We had the Avo tuna toast, karate chip salmon, wasabi grilled short ribs, and their most popular item, squid ink karaage. I wasn't impressed with the karaage before but the second visit proved why it was very popular. Everything were so good and even though we're already full, we still decided to get desserts. We had the brownie and marbled cheesecake. This was one of the best dinners I've ever had. We're also very pleased with the service provided by the staff. Thanks to Jamie, our server and Ray, who I believe is the manager for helping us with our choices. I also love the ambiance here. Staff have been so friendly to everyone and I see customers in other tables enjoying their meal as much as we did! Had a great dinner experience at Hatch with my Japanese friend. We tried all the chicken and beef yakitori and all of them are good! The wagyu yakitori is the best!! The cocktails and beer were great as well. The place is clean but still very cozy. The service is also great. read more
