Panda cup for the mango hurricane
Steph H.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Good food and service in a fun atmosphere. We were looking for a place in the area to meet up with some friends for dinner and saw it on Google Maps. After consulting the yelp app also we felt pretty confident it'd be pretty good. We lucked into their all day happy hour on a Monday night--16% off on starters, dim sum, and select drinks. We were happy to see that they had a decent variety of vergetarian/vegan items. We tried the following: - Peachy keen and Lychee mango Hurricane (in adorable panda glass!) happy hour cocktails--both very good - Spicy soy ribbon salad (my fave dish of the night, with chewy tofu ribbons, bean sprouts and greens dressed lightly in a spicy dressing) - Eggy tofu tots (second fave dish of the night: came to us piping hot, with custardy tofu in a nicely fried coating, served with chili oil) - Mapo tofu noodles (tofu with diced mushrooms in a spice, oily sauce served over noodles--quite good) - Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce topped with fried garlic (good, but didn't knock our socks off) - Dragon fries (the miss of the night: overcooked matchstick fries with some bits of scallion thrown on top served with regular ole ketchup) The ambience was casual-nice, with Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling adding a dose of festivity. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we had a pleasant time. We'd definitely try them again.

Came here for drinks only. We were seated immediately but it probably took 15 min for someone to take our order, another 20min for our drinks to arrive and another 15min for us to get the check. Drinks were okay - but definitely not worth it if the service is not up there.

Xiao long bao (Juicy pork dumplings), $8.80. Excellent

I like the place but just be aware they have a very, very limited menu for lunch. They don't have anything I wanted that I saw in the pictures on Yelp such as the XLB or scallion rolls. We all had the bento box lunch which was just ok. I'll have to remember to come back only for dinner in the rare event I'll be in the area for dinner.

Nice ambiance, easy to park at night, bartender was great, slight mishap with my order but was quickly resolved. Great portions and variety for everyone's diet. Was surprisingly a great spot, I think I had assumed that since it was in a newer kind of building, it was going to be 'meh' but it superseded my expectations. They sometimes will do karaoke, so we left before we had to endure that aspect, as we weren't in the mood for it that night. We will go back, it's been added to list of 'revisit/frequent often' spots, food was yummy too. Also a great spot to hit up on your own, indoor and outdoor seating.

Spicy Spicy Pork Wontons (5 Pieces)

Spicy wontons 4/5 Beef noodle soup 3.5/5 - Not a fan of the thicker noodle they use. But also I don't usually like chinese beef noodle soup haha Fried chicken roll 3/5 - The chicken skin was hard to bite and couldve been crispier

Such a cute spot! Chanel was seriously the sweetest and took such good care of us. She made us the most amazing espresso martinis, literally SO good The vibe was fun and we had the best time. Definitely coming back!

I HAD THE BEST TIME AT PEKING TAVERN!! My friends and I went for an outing and we had a blast !!! The food was good, and the ambience was soooo cool. But the highlight of the night was the staff. The staff were so cool and so kind, you guys were so attentive and patient. Thank you for the great night, you guys are awesome. Also shout out to the waiter who was wearing the piano tie, I watched Zoolander and that movie is sick xD It was a blast, I recommend Peking Tavern and would come back here again for the vibes ‍

Amazing service! Best bartender ever and lovely clean restaurant. Great low lighting and chill vibes. Food is spectacular and love that they have vegetarian options.

Lychee cocktail

Really loved this spot and it wasn't too busy on a Thursday night! I forget the name but I had some kind of lychee cocktail and it was sooooo good. We ordered a bunch of dim sum for the table and I can't remember it all but everything was so tasty. And it was happy hour so all dim sum was 15% off! Loved it and the ambience and will be back at some point.

It's very beautiful inside. Dim, but the ambiance is nice. Music can be better. It seemed like there was only one guy working (the bartender). He was very friendly. - Crushed Cucumbers 1.3/5 Lacks seasoning, pretty disappointing. Cucumbers were crunchy and fresh tasting though. - Kobe Beef Dumplings 2.2/5 Thought these were okay. The sauce is a flavor bomb. Some beef sauce reduced, dumplings were okay. definitely a flavor bomb. - Beef Noodle Soup 4.7/5 Very very surprising. The soup is SO flavorful. It's delicious. The beef is so tender too. Noodles are just regular spaghetti noodles? - Spicy Wontons 3.6/5 Chili oil is spicy, wontons are juicy. Unfortunately it's on the saltier side. But still wontons are juicy. - XLB 3.7/5 Liked these a bit better than the spicy wontons. They were juicy but the wonton wrapper (the skin) was pretty thick. Only comes in four pieces. Parked in the apartment structure next door, the bar was up when we left so it was free.

How is the security at the restaurant and the parking lot ?? I know this area has a lot of crime near LA city hall and the old LA times building etc.

This specific area seems very good. Always a security guard on foot near the restaurant and the parking garage. I've been there many times and always feel secure. The street is a private street running between the buildings so that helps. There is…

But that being said ... the membership that you get for purchasing bottles doesn't meet expectations. I have spent upwards of $1000 in bottles over the last few months and that has given me a little bit of a membership. Well, we went in for their newest addition, the devil's quarter, and all was good until the end of the night. Well we're given a limit to drinks at the post show bar. Me, having a membership, thought oh maybe we can stay another hour and have a drink at our favorite place... nope apparently members are only allowed to have fun on Tuesday... so I guess my membership is irrelevant because it's not a Tuesday (when I usually work), not to mention the $500 in bottles I now have to walk around with to find another post show hangout because we were no longer allowed to stay. I would love to be able to spend more at the post show bar but the speakeasy part looses its value if it's limited to even its members.

The atmosphere is immersive, theatrical, moody, and every nook and cranny of this place is beautifully detailed. Our group embraced the requested all-black dress code, and I was a little disappointed that some other guests didn't play along. When a place puts this much effort into creating a particular world, dressing the part really does make the experience more fun. The spirits themselves were excellent. We tasted vodka, whiskey, and rum, and all three were remarkably smooth, interesting, and clearly very high quality. I loved that the tasting was guided rather than just having drinks dropped in front of us. The storytelling and presentation made us pay attention to what we were actually tasting and gave the evening a nice sense of progression. We also happened to be there while comic artist Matt Harley of Marvel fame was sketching, which felt perfectly suited to the setting and made an already unusual night even more memorable. The space is gorgeous: candlelight, artwork, strange little details everywhere, dramatic lighting, beautiful glassware, and even the outdoor fire element. There's so much to look at that you feel like you're discovering something new every time you turn around. Our whole group LOVES Halloween, so this felt like the absolute perfect way to kick off spooky season. It has exactly the kind of dark, mysterious, slightly magical atmosphere we were hoping for without feeling cheesy or gimmicky. We loved the rum so much that we ended up buying a bottle, which also granted us Level 1 membership, so this definitely won't be our only visit. Such a fun choice for a birthday celebration, date night, or a night out with friends when you want something completely different from the usual bar experience. We're already looking forward to going back and seeing what our new membership unlocks.

Perfect for cocktail hour, but they also serve the full menu from castaway here so you could even order dinner if you wanted. Really beautiful presentation for the cocktails, reminds me of Barton G before it closed. They have a buzz button cocktail which was super tasty! Service was extreme friendly, and accommodating. Everyone was making sure we were satisfied throughout out time there. I will for sure be back, and if you're looking for a cute date night spot this it! I will be back to try more of the tapas!
