    Vegan karaage (mushrooms)
    Athena W.

Came here late on a Friday night for a light dinner and had a great time. Service was super friendly and the vibes are punky and fun. The menu changes regularly, so they have the daily offerings listed on 2 white boards - one for the raw bar and one for cooked food. Between the two of us, we ordered the agedashi mochi, vegan karaage, and mountain potato fries. We also ordered a glass of sake and a sapporo. The agedashi mochi was really tasty and fun! We've only ever had agedashi tofu so it was interesting to have chewy mochi in a savory broth like that, but we loved it! The vegan karaage that day was mushroom. It was served with a little salad and a bright mayo on the side which was a perfect pairing. The Japanese mountain fries were filling, but I think they were a bit under-salted, and I do wish they were served with a sauce. I'd probably skip them next time. I will say that their sushi looked really good because we saw other people ordering it. If we were hungrier, we would have ordered some, but that'll have to be saved for next time. Overall, we loved it! The prices are fair and the vibes are chill. Will definitely be back if I'm around Little Tokyo again soon.

A great Izakaya with a simple but tasty menu. I went for the beef bowl which has some definite high end Yoshinoya vibes. They've also got a selection of sashimi, soups, salads and more. It's tiny, but tucked far enough away from the main drag that you can probably get a seat.

The passion and reverence for fresh sashimi and punk rock resonate with each bite and song in this unusual restaurant for fans of the storied Atomic Cafe and cozy sushi bars of Japan. The owner quietly assembles beautiful plates of sashimi with the kind of attentiveness to detail you would expect of a master sushi chef -- except rather than being in a traditional environment, you're surrounded by vintage punk rock posters and ephemera. Who knew the sound of Sid Vicious pairs so nicely with fresh toro sashimi. I recommend going with their sashimi specials. The had a marinated snapper that was meaty and fresh, the perfect antidote to a hot LA day.

An awesome spot for a bite and drink before a show, or for a meandery conversation at the bar. Sake, octopus, black snapper (stunner), mountain fries, and an oyster shooter that collapsed time. Thank you Tsubasa, Brandon, and Amanda!

Seriously had an amazing time at Funhouse! The chef Tsubasa is a bit of a punk legend in LA, and his food did not disappoint. My crew got like every vegan option available that day (they are rotating the menu!) and also some fish stuff that they loved. the vegan Eel is an eggplant dish that was SO good! A little sweet, a little umami, a little char. Seriously a perfect egg plant ! The vegan Karage (fried chicken) was kind of the star in my opinion. It's a battered mushroom that is so good! He gets the crunchy texture and flavor, while retaining the mushroom just enough. I absolutely loved this I could have eaten a bucket. The app order comes with a little salad, but you can also add them on to your curry. I got the spicy vegan tomato curry and it was AMAZING! V flavorful! I love spice, this wasn't too spicy and it had really great little veggies in there. We also got the mountain potatoes which were delicious The ephemera is really exciting if you're a punk fan. He's got some OG Slash mags and merch and so many great flyers!!! And they also have a very cute old school diner counter which I love. Cute vibe! Everyone's so cool and welcoming I can't wait to come back and try all the vegan options that they come up with!

Just awesome. Owner operated, great vibe, itzakaya bar with a small indoor and outdoor seating. Wonderful fresh sushi, sake and beer. Personal, cozy and a cool rock & roll theme.

Always have a good time and good service at Funhouse! Servers AND founder of the Izakaya are very accommodating and attentive to each customer! The food is curated so well and you can tell that the founder put his whole heart and soul into each dish. Ambiance is right up my alley, love that the walls are covered with flyers and posters from all of my favorite punk bands. Anyone that has anything bad to say about Funhouse is more than likely already unhappy in life cos there is no way the staff AND founder will let any customer leave unsatisfied with the food and service! Try out Funhouse, you will not be disappointed! Also- best events in town!! Keep an eye out for their punk rock markets on Sundays every other month!

Great Japanese Izakaya with some garage punk vibes. The decor is great, the food delicious and the service is amazing. A new go to place to bring friends or make them.

This spot has a '70s punk rock aesthetic with a well thought out interior that shows attention to detail. The food is flavorful with fresh ingredients and the sashimi is really good,. Good music, good energy, and friendly servers make it an easy place to enjoy and come back to. This place has character!

A punk rock themed izakaya! The waiter will come up to you with food options on a whiteboard menu, that will vary based on what is available that day. I went as a group of 3 and we decided to share appetizers and sashimi to get a taste of everything, and then we each ordered our own entree. The food was so carefully prepared and fresh that it was reminiscent of the way food is presented in Japan. Our waiter was actually from Japan as well, and I connected with them about my previous Japan travels. The space is small, but worth the wait. Lots of punk rock gig flyers and merch on the walls, along with 70s punk heard over the speakers. There was also a group of customers who brought their own 7" rock singles to play over the turntable that is also connected to the speakers. Parking might be tough, but worth the fight!

My friend and I always said we need to try new restaurants but fail every time because we always ended up craving Marugame Monzo. They literally have the best cream udon in my opinion! They got the ratio RIGHHTTTT!! It's creamy but not crazy creamy that all you taste is heavy cream. I can taste the flavor from the protein!! The hand crafted udon noodles always cooked to perfection with the perfect texture. The noodles soaked up the sauce up so well!! I have tried different cream udon dishes here - the famous sea urchin cream udon, the carbonara udon, the mentai cream udon, the butter squid udon, etc... My fav would definitely be the mentai cream udon, as you get lots of yummy seafood (shrimps and scallops) in the sauce. The butter squid cream udon is also really good as well!! I like to pair my cream udon with a side of chicken karage!! I really like the batter that they use for the chicken! It's crunchy and airy and very well seasoned!! Service has always been amazing! You get seated fairly quickly and the staff are super attentive! They always check up on you to see how you are doing. The restaurant is small and they make the best of the space they have. I like the glass window/bar area where you can see the chef make the udon noodles!!

Salty but lacks a depth of flavor. - The truffle sushi roll had a prominent truffle flavor (which I enjoyed, but may not be for everyone). Crunch spider roll was a favorite; just a solid classic with soft shell crab (love that an extra piece of crab is included on top of the roll). The fried onions on top of the Tokyo roll were crispy and sweet. Uni was fresh and delicious! I had uni only one time before and had a bad experience (it was incredibly fishy, and now I realize, not fresh). So I was apprehensive at first but I'm glad I gave it a chance because this uni was buttery, smooth, and briny in all the right ways. - Matcha tea was okay, medium profile matcha flavor. Not bad for the value though. Clean and refreshing. -Might be a small thing to point out, but I like how they include lemon slices automatically in the water. I also like the texture of the ice (evenly crushed and almost like a slush). Service 3.5/5 Not too long a wait for the food. Polite and professional waiters.
