Truly a Mom & Pop auto shop, my experience with the Has has been terrific. They are quick to respond, diligent in troubleshooting, upfront with time-to-fix and costs, and thorough in their explanations of cause/effect. My Dad's old BMW had a tail light that wouldn't work (regardless of replacing the bulb, and bringing it to a more renowned BMW shop). Mr. Ha stuck with the problem, found that wires had been 'chewed' in the back tail light area, and worked on fusing them together to resolve the issue! He said he has seen this issue before (and is more common in Hawaii than we think). He is amazing. read more

This is like a ma & pa auto shop, old school auto repair shop. It was our 1st time here because it was down the road from our house. Normally we have a set place to go to for maintenance and repairs. Though they were booked for 2 weeks for repairs, and we needed our jeep fix for work and was our only transportation. I didnt know the exact reson of why my jeep wasnt turning on still, after putting a new battery. I was assuming it was the starter. Mr ha took our car in immediately. It didnt get done til the next day because he wanted to observe it since it was on intermitent. It was the starter. I like that he took the time to check to be sure it was the starter, since I told him it could be the starter. Its been almost a month, car still works great! This is in response to Tiffany G's review. Mr. Ha is Definitely not in it for the money. My husband and I have been taking our cars and trucks to him for years. He has never charged us for diagnostics and never tried to upsell on repairs and maintenance. He is an Honest businessman. Our cars are older - 2006-2011 and he always treats them with care. Unless he has to order parts, his turnaround time is Really fast. I am going to get a new car soon and once the manufacturer's warranty is expired, my new baby will be taken care of by Mr. Ha. You can always count on Ha! My husband and I have been taking both our cars to Ha for 5+ years now and this unassuming shop has saved us so many times! Our cars are older (03 BMW, 03 Pathfinder, 07 Prius) and have had a wide array of tricks up their sleeves for us over the years... brakes needing replacing, starters conking out, tires getting holes, transmission acting funky, Ha does it ALL! We even go to him for our oil changes and safety checks. I had been to a few other places prior to finding him via a referral from a friend and what sets him apart is his honesty and fair prices. Quick example: my windshield wiper motor broke and I took it to "German Auto Parts" down the road bc I thought it needed a specialty BMW part. They quoted me $700 to fix it. I took it to Ha for a second opinion and he came up with a creative way to fix it without replacing it- cost came to $70. Just like visiting your uncle's house. I was desperate on Easter weekend to figure out why my engine light was blinking on my Honda civic. I'm no car snob, but I know a lot and knew it could be a couple of things that I couldn't fix myself over a busy weekend. When you have a busy holiday weekend ahead and a kid, you want to find the best shop that has time to fix your car on a Saturday ASAP. I called a few of my usual picks, but they all were busy until early the following week. That's not gonna work for me! Ha's was the 3rd or 4th place I called. A friendly guy answered the phone. Mr. Ha has a warm reasurring voice -- in your best friend's dad kind of way. "Yeah we have time to look at it. Come down for a diagnostic test then I can see what's wrong, den you figure out what you want to do." Ok....shoots uncle... I'm dea. :) (*throws a loose shaka*) Their shop is right in Dillingham off of Houghtailing. I felt even better about getting the Ha's when I walked in and he's there smiling and talking to his grandbaby on his hip. Awww so cute. His wife was busy making saimin for the three of them. This is like old Hawaii days when mom and pop shops take care of you. I miss that!! They immediately started the diagnostic test after signing some papers and within 2 hours they called with a quote. Uncle said I also had an oil leak, which I know about and it's slow. I was ready to fight off the hard sell to fix it, but Mr. Ha said, "no need fix that, no big deal", first before I started feeling defensive. So minimal fixes later, my car was ready and it works even better than before the light was on. I dropped my car off at 830 and had it back by 130. (They close at 2pm on Saturday.) The sixth invisible star is that they went above and beyond with little things. The plastic guard under the front of my car was hanging down on one side -- it was tied up tight and they changed my oil on a super discount. My AC is also SUPER cold now on 1 which is bizarre since it only worked on 4 before. Go figure? But I think it has something to do with the timing that they readjusted. The Ha's are nice and I really trust this little shop. I honestly can't wait to go back. I just hope word doesn't get out so I can still get fast service! Very rude owner. I have no idea why they have a perfect score on Yelp but I guess it's a fake facade. My car battery died when I went to lunch near burger King kalihi which is there next door neighbor and I was relieved there was a mechanic shop near there to help a damsel in distress. My car couldn't turn on and it's a hybrid so I don't know how to jump start it. I had a mini portable jump starter and I was hoping someone from there would help me. Mind you the guy that helped me was actually from Midas and I gave him a $35 tip for his lunch and a good Samaritan. The boss of Has shooed me away like I was a hobo. Shouted at me through his mask WE CAN'T HELP YOU OUTSIDE SERVICE! During these trying times (2020 pandemic) I would hope people would be reasonable and do the right thing. But in everything in life MONEY TALKS. I guess he thought that if he helped me jump start my car it would not benefit him at all a free service. What's in it for him $$$$. read more

We met Ha in 2001 by searching out a mechanic in a phone book. I had an old car that he kept running for me until he told me one day. Just too old the engine.... When I was able to buy another i brought it to him for checks and minor repairs to make sure it was road ready. He gave a good price and treated us fairly and has done so all these years later. He is honest, knowledgeable, kind and cares about making sure your car is worked on safely and efficiently. If you have a small job he is never too busy to take care of you no matter how small or big the job is. He is always super busy and treats everyone with respect and will do so even if customers are demanding. Just don't expect him to jump to your demands. No one wants to be treated unkindly. His long time sweetheart of a wife is his strong right hand, taking care of the office and customers with a big smile and a gentle heart. I will miss them when they ever decide to retire but with 5 grandchildren that may still be a long ways away!! :) read more

My son's trusty 2001 Honda Civic coupe's engine seized while he drove up the H2 one night. That's the consequence of ignoring the engine oil lamp for several consecutive days. He had it towed home and there it sat...for over two months! We discussed options during this time, and decided it was worth having Mr. Ha check it out and replace the engine, if he could. I have been going to Mr. Ha for years now, and he was able to work his reliable magic for me yet again. We contracted with a tow service to deliver the car to Mr. Ha, and while the tow truck driver was getting his lift and safety chains in place, he was telling us to watch out for unscrupulous mechanics who will over-charge you for replacing a bunch of stuff unrelated to the engine replacement. "They take advantage of big jobs like this to really sock you, yea?" Then he asked where the car was going. I told him it's gonig to Mr. Ha's Auto Repair - he broke out in a big smile. "Oh! You got nothing to worry about then. Mr. Ha is so honest and he is one of the good ones. You shoulda told me that before I started my rant!" Now, just over three weeks after dropping-off the Civic at Mr. Ha's place, the coupe is back on the road again with a fresh engine. During the project, Mr. Ha told me that - besides replacing the water pump, timing belt, and other items that I knew had to be done before the engine was put in place - he found that both left and right front axles had to be replaced...along with the worn-out clutch plates. Uh oh! Was Mr. Ha falling in line with the scan artists in order to boost the repair bill on me? Turns out - just the opposite. He said he replaced the axles and clutch plates and charged me only for the parts - and showed me that the quote he gave me over the phone after the initial examination of the car was larger only by the cost of these parts. He did not charge me for the additional hours of labor involved in replacing these components. Mr. Ha said, "It's not safe for your son to drive the car with the (trans) axles in the condition they were in." Mr. Ha is always thinking of the safety of his customers. He - and his wife, who runs the business office - are two of the most considerate people I have ever met. There is no one else to whom I would entrust the safety of my boys...let alone our vehicles. Mr. Ha and staff are professional and fast when it comes to auto mechanics. Had a problem with clutch fluid leaking and couldn't find where it was coming from. Ended up being a leak in the master cylinder. Mr. Ha called me every step of the way to let me know what was going on. This is a long overdue review for Ha's auto. I always mean to write reviews and forget to, but I just had to make sure I write one for Ha's auto. The Ha's are the best. I went to them for my auto repair, and every time I went I felt like I was go to a friendly neighbor's house. They are sincerely kind and always made me feel so welcome. This is the only auto repair shop I've ever been to that I trusted 100% and enjoyed visiting. The work is excellent, the prices are great, and he is so knowledgeable and helpful. He will not fix anything that does not need to be fixed. I have referred my friends there and one friend told me that his car had so many issues even after getting numerous repairs, and after one visit to Ha's auto his car was running smoothly. I'm no longer on the island so can't go to them anymore. I miss Ha's auto. read more

Had to tow here again. Had a hole in the power steering hose which the liquid went onto the rack and pinion area which was damaged. All in all cost was just under $1,000. I was told this was a good price and car was fixed in 2 days. read more

Hello all: I know why you're here. I use yelp.com before I even call a shop or anybody for goods/services. In this case, I was looking for an honest mechanic that is also reliable and not greedy with profit. After reading reviews on yelp, I decided to call Mr. Ha. Immediately, I knew this person is upright. I took 2 of my vehicles to him. Both needed timing belt replacement, flushed and replaced all fluids, full tune ups, one vehicle needed the rack and pinion replaced, and general maintenance of the vehicles. After paying Mr. Ha the bills, I knew that I was not ripped off at all. The bill was reasonable. Every penny I paid was well earned by the mechanics. My vehicles are now in top shape. My wife's vehicle is next... Be mindful that Ha's Auto Repair employs only a few mechanics. So, don't complain if the service takes a little longer than the other shops. Give Mr. Ha a call. Thanks. My experience at Ha's Auto Repair was excellent. Mr. and Mrs. Ha treated me as a friend, not just a paying customer. I was to take my SUV to his shop for it to be scan for possible abnormalities. I stopped at Foodland first to buy my breakfast. I went to start my SUV and it wouldn't. It cranked but didn't start. Mr Ha told me to have it towed to his shop because they don't work outside the shop. He a did partial scan to determine if the failure to start was ignition or fuel related. It was a defective fuel pump. I approved the repair. Left SUV overnight so Mr. Ha can start first thing in the morning. After 3-4 hrs of changing the fuel pump and fuel filter, he did a full scan. He test drove it for performance assessment. He said the engine performance is good. He observed that the trans had a shift delay, fluid level was high, and leaking from the breather tube. My old Honda car was in need of repair due to squeaking noises in the engine. I also figured it was overdue for a new timing belt. Based on the reviews, I thought I'd try this shop. When I brought in the car, I told the owner I'll buy the parts & pay the labor only. He gave a quote of $1,000+ Made an appointment, bought the parts & left the car overnite. The next day, he said he could not work on my car, because of his busy schedule, could not squeeze me in, etc. So, I went to Rod's Auto Service instead. Rod gave me a list of other parts to buy, in addition to what I already had bought. He changed the timing belt, water pump, idle pulley, radiator hose, put in a new clutch, etc for about the same price! Now that's customer service. read more
