I started having a rough idle at a traffic stop one morning, and decided to cancel my pickelball game for that day. I replaced the spark plugs on one bank of my Tacoma V6 since they were due for replacement. When I took it for a mini drive, it actually got worse and drove the truck back home. Called Nate about my truck problems and he eventually came to check it. He hooked up his gizmo and determined one of the cylinders was faulty. After removing the spark plug to inspect, he discovered a leak in the valve cover. Also noted the plug needed replacement. After making some additional test to pinpoint the problem, he determined that the spark plug wire was bad. He proceeded to install the remaining plugs and a new wire set was also installed. Nate is an excellent mechanic and continue to provide excellent service since I have known him. It would have cost me more trying to fix this issue using trial and error and just glad Nate came to the rescue. I highly recommend him as a trusted mechanic. read more

Starter went out on a Saturday and AAA recommended and towed my 2007 Corvette to Lex Brodies in Waipahu but they couldn't guarantee they could work on my car since to them it was too High End so I took it to Performance Auto Repair nearby. The owner of this company was being unnecessarily modest when creating the name because it honestly should've been named BEST DANG AUTO REPAIR SHOP IN HAWAII. Not only are they professional and friendly, they are fast, they are affordable, and they're honest about what's actually wrong and won't bs you about paying for things that aren't even broken to begin with. Long overdue review!! But I went to kia to get all four wheels changed, they told me something was wrong with a strut. They charged me a amount I couldn't afford, and every single time. I called this shop, and gave me a good estimate, and said usually your suppose to change two struts but they already realigned my tires except the one with the strut leaking. So I parked my car there and the customer service was really good! He even asked the owner next door if I can stay in their lounge room since I had no car to take me home. I definitely stayed out from 9am-almost 5:30. Then my lug nut key was missing.. called kia and by mistake the mechanic had it in his tool box. Thankfully I was gonna walk on over but the owner insisted he'll grab it, I was so thankful. He finished the job. read more

Yes, another 5 star review for Performance Auto Repair. Apparently my wife's low mile Lexus GS430 has had a charging system issue for some time that has gone undetected with the exception of the stereo display flickering and the amp cutting in and out o occasion. The Rail Traffic however had finally caused the condition to rear its ugly head and make the charging system indicator light come one after one too many extended two-hour days in traffic. I called Eli near closing and told him of the problem and said I'd do some preliminary checks but forgot to call him back and confirm the issue. The next day my wife drive the car there and they looked at her a little funny... As I failed to call back. They were able to accommodate her anyway despite having three other jobs for the day, and were able to service the car while it was there! (It was a little short of interval but overdue on time) I'm grateful they could take the car on short notice and get the car done as I am working long hours. Thanks again! read more

Went in for a coolant leak that emptied out my reservoir and had my car sitting in a pool of coolant within 10 minutes. I try to do repairs on my own to save money but I just couldn't figure this one out. Eli took me in the morning after and had it all fixed same day and even changed my oil for me as well (my oil maintenance light was on too lol)! Not only did they replace the faulty part, they took preventative measures by pressure checking and burping my radiator as well, ensuring the safety and functionality of the system. Most auto repair chains will just repair/replace the part and that's it, potentially costing you more when something else breaks down from not taking preventative measures. PAR did a swap out kit for my 2016 Escalade suspension from a magnetic/ air suspension to a passive suspension kit for all 4 wheels. Great communication and customer service. Really outstanding service! This shop met my every need to get my engine rebuilt on my 2014 STI. I was in a rush because a major engine failure happened at the worst time being in the military and on a timeline to move off island. I told them initially that it would need to be taken care of immediately and they made magic happen and got my engine taken out and to the machine shop in no time, all of the setbacks were due to shipping parts that we needed from the mainland. But they were at it and made sure everything was broken in and even made follow up call to ensure everything was still good after i got the car back. It took a month which probably would've been longer if it were other shops. Im so satisfied with their service and exceeded my expectations. RJ has especially made sure i was informed and kept me aware of the status every step of the way! He also gave me very good advice on how to go from here to get the best out of my upgrades and so that it lasts. If anyone would ask me for a shop on Oahu, it would be these guys for sure. read more

I can't really say enough about these guys. I recently brought my car in to fix an oil leak that I simply couldn't tackle in my garage. Because my car has a rare engine/transmission combination, they mistakenly quoted me for MUCH less labor than they should have. Even after they realized their mistake, they still honored the original quote. Additionally, while they had everything apart, they discovered two more parts that were shot (motor mount, water pump). They recommended replacing the parts, which saved me a LOT of money in future labor costs. And I couldn't be happier with the quality of their work! I knew about these guys because a few months ago they helped my wife out with a minor issue. It only took a few minutes and there were no parts to buy so they sent her on her way without charging her. The other Yelpers have it right. In the world of car repair, I need all the help I can get. When Eli and RJ explain things, I don't feel dumb. In fact, they help me participate in the decisions about my car. Today, I had a whole lot of things that needed attention: my bolo head tires, an alternator that another mechanic said was on its last leg (Eli said it wasn't), a fan that blew an old dog odor into the car, and spark plugs that weren't all firing. They are fair with their hourly rate and know how to tackle any issues with your vehicle. They ordered quality parts and even checked each one to see if they work prior to installing(they found a defective part and immediately ordered a new one). This is the kind of attention to detail that will prevent a problem in the future, save you money, and ensure safety (especially the critical component failure [ie.] brakes and lines). They went above and beyond by giving me the option to opt out of less critical repairs, rebuilt parts that were salvagable, and did some additional electrical diagnosis free of charge just to help me out. (This is usually a expensive and time consuming process). I recommend these guys for a fair and quality work. There are probably cheaper places, but it will not likely match their quality of work. Remember you can only have 2 out these 3 things when you want a repair or refurbish. Fast Service, Quality Work, Cheap Price. If you opt for a Fast and Cheap job, you won't get quality.
